The product, in the report: It is a JennAir 30” Rise Slide In Range With Downdraft.
I have a new JennAir 30” Rise Slide-In Range. The temperature on the outside below 31” is over [REDACTED]. JennAir is not willing to help me and say their engineers say that it is fine to reach 194 degrees. I have contacted [REDACTED] and they recommended I file a report with you. This is a range appliance used under normal use. I am worried that I, my family or any of my 5 grandchildren age 6 and under will be hurt. [REDACTED] says that a metal range cannot exceed a raise in temperature over 59 degrees above room temperature. That is well below 194 degrees JennAir says is okay. I live in [REDACTED], Ohio, USA.

The product, in the report: Down draft jennair
Turned oven on the first time and it made popping sounds. After it would not get up to temperature. Called jennair repair and they had someone come fix it. Found out that the wires in the back were not correctly attached and caused sparks and a burn mark in the back of oven. Thought the problem was fixed and started the oven again. This time it overheated and all my smoke alarms were going off in the house. This was a down draft Jennair stove/oven unit

No one hurt Made Aug 4, 2020, sent to the company Sep 25, 2020, published by CPSC Nov 10, 2020
The product, in the report: I purchased a Jenn-Air downdraft cooktop on 1/21/2020 at Texas Appliances in Arlington, Texas. (Model number: JED4430GS01; Serial number: D90203822.) I discovered that the back right burner was defective and contacted Jenn-Air/Whirlpool for a remedy. When the repair was made, the tech discovered that the model and serial numbers on my receipt did not match the unit. This started a chain of events with Whirlpool over the validity of my claim. After I sent them pictures of my receipt and model/serial numbers from my unit on June 17, 2020, I was informed on June 18, 2020 that it was a safety recall and they would be exchanging the unit. I never heard anything more from them so I emailed them back on July 6, 2020 asking about progress. They advised me on July 7, 2020 that they were working with [REDACTED] to replace my recalled unit with JED3430GS. There hasn’t been any correspondence from them. I emailed yesterday, August 3, 2020. I have not received a response. I’m getting rather frustrated since I was sold a product in January that was recalled in August of the previous year; 5 months after a safety recall. We have had the unit turn on by itself when something hot or wet is sat on the surface. It could have caused a fire if I had not been standing there at the time. Please advise of rights at this point. Whirlpool and Texas Appliances were negligent in this whole process. We have been inconvenienced for several months with no remedy in sight. Thank you!

The product, in the report: Oven
Caller stated that the oven comes on by itself randomly, at times the control panel allows him to turn it off and other times he has to use the circuit breaker to switch it off. The manufacturer was contacted and they were advised that a service technician will be sent out for a free inspection but they would have to pay for the parts and labor. He stated that the incident has been ongoing for a few years but lately it has progressed to the point that it is overwhelming.
Caller feels that this oven is a fire hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: Oven and glass cooktop, Jenn Air, JER8785RAS, black and steel color
I was utilizing the glass range and oven normally when I smelled burning plastic. The smell continued for awhile then the oven and stove-top elements turned off and won’t turn back on. The next day I took off the back panel to investigate and there was evidence of an electrical fire on multiple components and insulation and one of the wires connecting to the range terminal block was burned through completely.

Emergency room Made Jul 15, 2015, sent to the company Aug 21, 2015, published by CPSC Sep 4, 2015
The product, in the report: Downdraft Range
06/11/2015 - The consumer indicates that prior to the incident, she had used the oven approximately two point five to three hours before and that, at the time of the incident, the oven was completely shut off.
The consumer was cleaning her kitchen and she had a wet towel wiping down everything. When she opened the oven door slightly so she could wipe down the top of its door and gently closed it again. When the consumer turned her back on the unit, the oven glass door immediately exploded. The consumer received many abrasions to her hands and arms.
The consumer’s husband, who was not in the kitchen, heard the loud explosion and his wife’s screams and hurried to the kitchen. He immediately switched off the circuit breaker that supplies electricity to the unit.
The consumer wrapped her arms and hands. Because the next morning her arms and hands were throbbing due to the injuries, she went to the Emergency Room. They x-rayed her arms and hands to locate the small glasses that were still in her flesh. They extracted these small glasses and re-x-rayed her arms and hands to make sure there were none left in the consumer. They finished by bandaging her and sending her home.
06/12/2015 - The consumer contacted her Homeowner’s Insurance and they sent somebody out immediately to inspect the damage. A claim was submitted. She was told the unit seemed it was combustible.
06/17/2015 (Approximately) - The consumer contacted Jenn Air and explained everything that happened. The representative she spoke to asker her how she felt and informed her that they would send an inspector out on 07/02/2015. After inspection, the inspector told the consumer that although glasses can shatter, it was the first time that he had seen somebody with injuries do to it. He cleaned out as much glass as possible under the oven and threw them away. He filed a report with the manufacturer.
07/15/2015 - The consumer received a call from Whirlpool Corporation. She did not receive any answer as to what could have caused the incident and they offered to completely replace the range or credit her 2,449.00$ towards the purchase of a new range.
The consumer has not made any decisions regarding the offers she received. She was informed she has thirty days to do so.
The consumer asked about her medical expenses and she was told that their Law Department would send her a Claims Form so she can fill it out and submit. The Claims Form was e-mailed.
The consumer indicates that she has an appointment with a plastic surgeon on 07/20/2015 to consult on her injuries to see if there could be scarring and what can be done about it.
The consumer indicates that Jenn Air is the only brand that sells downdraft ranges in the world. After what happened, the consumer does not feel safe with any Jenn Air ranges or downdraft ranges. Because of this, restructuring and remodeling will have to be done to her home and kitchen.
The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard.

The product, in the report: The oven that the glass shattered was the lower of two wall ovens. Jenn-Air wall oven model JJW9627DDW
On August 16, 2014, without provocation or warning, the entire front panel of the lower oven shattered with great force, sending shards of glass approximately 5 feet in a 180 degree half-circle. The window that is the viewing portal into the oven did not break; just the surface of the door. The oven was cold, not having been activated for several months. The self-cleaning feature has never been used. No one bumped, touched, scraped, or in any other way contacted the surface.

No one hurt Made Nov 25, 2013, sent to the company Dec 4, 2013, published by CPSC Dec 18, 2013
The product, in the report: Jenn Air Double Oven Freestanding Range
Appliance name and model number: Jenn-Air Double Oven Freestanding Range, model no: JDR8895AAS. The oven randomly turns on to broil settings and 170 degrees Fahrenheit. At this point, the control panel does not always respond to button presses to shut the oven off. Even if the oven responds to button presses and successfully shut the oven off, the oven turns on again after a few seconds. The only safe way to counteract the issue is to shut the power off to the oven at the main breaker panel.
The danger with this issue is that this could happen while there is no one at home, or during the night when there is no one there to shut the oven off. As it is a heat source it could pose a fire hazard under certain circumstances.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air Slide-In Range
Oven was set to bake. After preheating oven to 350, placed cookie sheet in with dough. Approximately 3 minutes later, my brother noticed smoke coming out of the oven and looked inside. The broiler burners had turned on and the cookies were on fire. He said he saw a yellow error message on the instrument panel, but did not remember what it said. He turned the oven off and pulled the cookie sheet out and took it outside to douse the flames with water. This is at least the fifth time this has happened.
Sears carries the warranty on this appliance and has refused to acknowledge any problem. The broiler does not turn on every time I bake and Sears technicians say have not been able to replicate the problem. However, each time they come out, they can see that the bake feature “is not available.” The technician does something (I do not know what because I cannot see everything they are doing to the back of the oven) to reset the oven so the bake feature works again. Then, they test the oven - 1 time - and tell me the oven is working properly. They do not replace nor repair anything.
Eventually, there will be a more serious fire and my home will burn down. So far, the only reason that has not happened is because I stay in my kitchen all the time while I am baking.

The product, in the report: A Black Jenn-air cook top
First of all I saw the Black Jenn-Air cooktop on the Internet, but could not find a dealer locally that had the product in stock. So I ordered the cook top unseen from a dealer in Dallas, TX. The internet page showed the grid somewhat better than it really is. However, you are unable to see the grid that is on the cook top that tells you what level of power, i.e.lo, hi, and number, that you are cooking on. The grid is grey on black when I think it should be white on black, based on other black cook tops that I have seen. You can barely see the grid only if you look at it in an awkward way, i.e. standing directly over the grid, or turning your head in an un-normal position. My wife has misused the cook top several times due to not being on the right power level. This has resulted in what she is cooking boiling over or burning. She is only 5’ tall, so it is very awkward for her to use. I consider this cook top a safety hazard because, 1) you cannot be sure of the level of power you are cooking on, 2) something boiling over could get into the controls, because the controls are flat on the surface of the cook top, which I think could possibly cause a fire, or an electrical short, or destroy the controls. I have worked with the dealer, Jenn-Air customer service, & the corporate office for the past year. The final results from the corporate office, is that this is the way the cook top is designed & nothing can be done about it.
