No one hurt Made Aug 21, 2026, sent to the company Oct 13, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 27, 2026
The product, in the report: G.E Stove
The consumer stated that the burner-control knob was turned on accidentally. Because a plastic object was resting on the burner at the time of activation, the object ignited and began to burn. The consumer reports that: • The fire was contained and extinguished after the burner control was turned down. • No injuries occurred. • No one was burned. • No significant property damage occurred beyond the melted/damaged plastic item. Hazard Concerns: The consumer expresses concern that the burner can be unintentionally activated too easily by accidental contact with the knob, creating a fire hazard.
The consumer is seeking a refund for the damaged plastic item, as it now must be replaced. The consumer does not wish to obtain a replacement from the same brand, citing concerns about potential hazard due to ease of unintended burner activation.
The consumer wishes to notify the CPSC of this safety concern and requests evaluation of whether similar products present a risk of accidental ignition when burner knobs are unintentionally engaged.

The product, in the report: GE oven, stainless steel with black accents.
While my family and I were sitting in the living area of our house watching a movie we heard a loud shatter which frightened all of us. We searched our home to find that our Oven door external glass had shattered into thousands of little pieces. Had one of us been in the room, we would have likely been in the hospital from skin abrasions and glass getting into our skin. The oven was not used this day as we had been out for the weekend and returned home that evening. When I called GE the rep told me the warranty was only good for a year and to come to our home it would be about $115 for the tech then parts and labor on top of this. For that cost we will opt to buy a new Oven range and will vow to never again purchase GE. SO much for the GE cares model. This is terrible- a recall needs to be made! I see other reports of this same oven for the same reason.

The product, in the report: GE PROFILE SERIES 30” SLIDE-IN FRONT CONTROL DOUBLE OVEN ELECTRIC CONVECTION RANGE. Model PS950SF2SS / Serial GD247349Q
Our oven turned itself on on the middle of the night again... the third time this week, and just the most recent of dozens of previous times! We woke up from the smell of burning, and the entire house was filled with an acrid smoke that burned the eyes. A burner has spontaneously turned itself on and heated the stove, where a small plastic bag containing bread had been set the night before, melting the plastic and burning the bread black. No one had been in the kitchen or was using the oven. This defective appliance nearly burned our house down! We already disliked this double-oven/stove combo product, and have had several issues including the glass top surface crack, as well as the wildly oversensitive control panel buttons that will turn the oven and/or stove on or off when one is standing over the front of the range and just slightly leans forward. After a handful of similar incidents we have learned to obsessively check whether the appliance is off and the lock button engaged, for fear of fire. Unfortunately, the lock button cannot be used to prevent additional cooking functions from engaging if one of the dual ovens or one of five burners is on, and will shut off all functions. Another annoyance is that we cannot even use the timer function by itself (without the oven or stove heating) while appliance is locked, so even if we do not use the range to cook one evening, we still have to compulsively check that the control panel is locked if weve used the timer at all. In addition to this phantom cooking, the ventilation at the top rear of the product releases such steaming air from the oven that anything or anyone near the side or back countertops can be damaged (melted, burned, or caught fire) or injured (barstool seating at split level height). We can no longer keep anything remotely near our stove, nor have hightop barstool seating for ourselves or guests to sit. Finally, the door handle of the lower oven, when opened, hits the floor and the height a person must stoop to in order to lift out the hot contents is completely absurd even for a short person; this cannot possibly be safe or intended! There is an obvious risk of the glass door shattering from the impact of the handle hitting the floor, as well as a user being scalded/burned while removing items from the lower oven. Everything about this product is poorly designed.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that her cat is has been able to turn her oven range on twice when it stands on top of its keypad. The consumer notes that the unit has a locking button however her cat can also press it to unlock it.
Intially, the consumer was unaware where the smoke was coming from so the Fire Department was called. When the firemen found that the oven range was the source, they informed the consumer that others have experienced the same thing.
The consumer states that both cooktop and oven are used three to four times per week.
The consumer plans on keeping her oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that the front and right burner of her oven range overheats and has turned itself to high at least ten times. The consumer is multiple times forced to switch off the circuit breaker because the burner will not shut off manually. The oven range’s oven light and warmer also sporadically turn on. The consumer has been in communication with the manufacturer multiple times and three service technicians have been dispatched however none have been successful in repairing the unit. So far the board has been changed thrice, and the burner, the fan, and the warmer have also been replaced once. The consumer states that the cooktop was used daily whereas the oven was used once or twice per week. The consumer notes that oven range has an electrical panel with a radial dial. The consumer does not plan on keeping the unit for at least the next thirty days.

The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that the oven range is used in his workplace. The consumer indicates that the main wiring harness on the oven range is improperly routed because it leads up to the frame of unit. Because of this, the cooktop sits on top of wiring harness thus the repeated movements when someone places something on it cut through wires and shorts them out.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke arranged for a Service Technician to inspect the unit on 12/28/2021.
The consumer states that the product was used daily two to three times per day.
The consumer plans on keeping the oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: General Electric Wall oven
Within the first year of purchase, the oven made a loud boom sound, when it was turned on. The consumer called the manufacturer and they sent out a technician. The consumer experienced this issue numerous times. A manufacturer’s technician has been out to his home 5 or more times for the issue, but could never duplicate the boom sound when they were there.
On one occasion, the consumer smelled gas in the home and called the gas company. A technician from the gas company, came out and also smelled gas. He shut down the oven and the consumer had to schedule a manufacturer’s service visit. The mfr’s technician came out and had to replace a long tube that emitted gas (not the igniter).
The oven worked fine for almost a year, but then the problem recently returned.
7/19 – 7/23 (2021): A few days ago, the consumer heard a boom, when the oven was turned on, but it was not as loud as with previous incidents. The consumer contacted the mfr’s technician, but he could not find an issue.
7/26/2021: The consumer’s wife turned on the oven and there was a very loud boom. She immediately turned it off.
The consumer said that the manufacturer was not willing to replace the oven.
2020: Over a year ago, the consumer allowed the insurance on the oven to lapse. He contacted the manufacturer and they charged him $247.00 for a service technician to visit him. He had to pay $211 to renew his service contact for the 2021 – 2022 year. However, this is a fire safety issue to the consumer and his family and could be at risk of a house fire. Therefore, these fees are excessive and the safety issue has not been resolved.
The consumer paid $1500 for the wall oven.

I have a GE Monogram 6 burner stove that is dangerous. One of the burners flared up like a geyser. I have a video. This has been an ongoing issue and GE has been out to the house 3 times. I’ve had it. They engineered bad burners that are dangerous especially after washing or have pasta water spill over.

The product, in the report: General Electric range JBP66SOM2SS
Microwave glass fell from door and outer oven glass detached and shattered I first purchased this home new in 2009 the General Electric appliances came with it. The appliances appear to have a common defect regarding the glass. The G E [REDACTED] the oven glass just fell within 90 days of use. I called GE and a service tech came out and used silicone and sealed the glass, since then the paint on the inside is peeling. The General Electric range repair JBP66SOM2SS outer glass shattered due to two sided tape failed. I had the range on self-cleaning and the glass just fell to the floor and shattered. It appearing the only thing holding the glass in the aluminum frame was two sided tape. There are no metal brackets or screws to hold the glass in place. I called G E and the representative was aware of the defects, but was unable to offer replacement appliances or glass. I attempted to purchase glass four time but the glass was the wrong size. I believe G E has recognized this issue in the past as a manufacturer defect and replaced the appliances in the past.

Hurt, no treatment Made Dec 2, 2019, sent to the company Dec 27, 2019, published by CPSC Jan 10, 2020
The product, in the report: GE built-in wall oven stopped working with error code F96 on Thanksgiving day. When going to reset the unit on the front panel the glass was hot enough to give a 3rd degree burn on my finger. I turned off the circuit breaker to the unit as a safety precaution. After allowing the unit to cool down and resetting the power we tried operating the unit again with the same result. Microwave is located inches above the wall oven and it has since failed also.
While using wall oven in normal mode got an error code F96, and beeping. When I went to reset the unit the front panel was so hot I burned my finger. I turned off the circuit breaker to the oven until it cooled off, about an hour later. This is a built in wall oven, convection. A built in microwave is installed above the oven. It failed shortly after the wall oven failed. Possibly due to the heat from the oven.

The product, in the report: GE Double Wall Oven, model JKD5000SN1SS, serial number HM131645Q, software version 02.13.05.11, WiFi module software version 0.0.5.54
Problem: If the oven has been turned on manually, the remote control software is unable to turn off the oven, but falsely claims to have done so. This can be a fire hazard.
Oven: GE model JKD5000SN1SS, serial number HM131645Q, software version 02.13.05.11, WiFi module software version 0.0.5.54
Android App: Kitchen – GE Appliances, version 1.0.8.7 (also version 1.0.7.4)
Here are several scenarios, some where the remote control software is able to turn off the oven, and others where it fails to do so.
• With “Remote Enable” turned on, if the oven is remotely started, it is able to be remotely turned off. When pressing “Turn Off” followed by “Yes” in the app, the oven immediately turns off and the app display immediately changes to showing the oven is off. This is the expected behavior.
• Either with “Remote Enable” on or off, turn on the oven using the touchpad. The remote control app properly shows that the oven is on. In the app, tap Oven to display the monitor/control screen, which also shows that the oven is on. Press “Turn Off” and then “Yes” at the acknowledgment screen. For several seconds, sometimes as long as a minute, an orange band spins around the oven status. This is followed by the app’s oven status display changing to “Off”. However, despite the app displaying the oven as having been turned off, the oven is in fact still running. Returning to the app home screen will briefly show the oven as being off, and then updates, showing in fact that the oven is still on. Tapping on Oven to return to the monitor/control screen now shows that the oven is still on. Further attempts to remotely turn off the oven fail in the same manner.
• Either with “Remote Enable” on or off, turn the oven on using the touchpad. The remote control app properly shows that the oven is on. Using the remote control app’s monitor/control screen, tap on the oven status and make a change, either to the temperature or to the cooking mode and press “Set”. Pressing “Turn off” and answering “Yes” will now immediately turn off the oven with the app’s oven status also immediately changing to off. While changing an oven setting restores the ability to turn off the oven remotely, the oven settings should not be modifiable when “Remote Enable” is turned off.
I attempted to report these problems both to the GE Connection help line and to the general GE help line. Neither was willing/able to take this information and escalate it to someone who could act on it. Your assistance in resolving these safety issues will be greatly appreciated.

The product, in the report: Stove/oven GE model # JBP80W0K1WW and the serial # RH245920Q
I was standing in my kitchen about 4 feet away from my stove when I heard what sounded like a silverware drawer falling to the floor. As I turned to look, I saw where my exterior oven door had shattered and glass flung out over the floor. I was struck by several shards of glass that did NOT cut me yet, I had to pull them off of my pant leg. It is important to note that my oven has not been in use for 3 days and there is no reason for this to have occurred. My appliance is a GE model # JBP80W0K1WW and the serial # RH245920Q. My greatest concern is that a child could have been closer and could have been hit with a shard of this glass.

The product, in the report: GE slide in range. Model JSP34WOD3WW, Serial AG 2 825530. Four coil burners, conventional oven with glass panel door
GE slide-in range outer glass panel of oven door exploded sending glass shards flying and cutting the legs of my daughter. The oven was being used to heat some food, the door was closed. It just suddenly exploded, the inner glass of the door remained intact. The oven continued to function and there appeared to be nothing wrong with the function of the oven....it heated as it should. The model number is JSP34WOD3WW, Serial AG 2 825530. A day earlier one side of the oven door handle became disconnected. It appears the the plastic nut that secures the oven handle to the door and the outer glass became disconnected to the handle bolt -- the nut is within the frame of the oven door, between the inner and outer glass panels. Believe that over time the heating / cooling cycles deteriorated the the plastic threads of the nut so when pulling on the oven door in the faulty nut gave way the the handle became disconnected.....the glass panel then exploded a day later.

I have a Self-Cleaning Radiant Range Model# JBP64B0B5WH, Serial # LF2955890. I have a rear left element that when cooking for a while at 5 or above, when turned off it does not go off. When turned off it waits than goes off, then it comes back on, etc. just as if it was not turned off. After some time of playing with the dial it will go off. This is a MAJOR concern to me. I do not want to lose my house because my stove does not turn off.

The product, in the report: Range/Oven, Slide-in style.
The control knobs of the range are on an angle with a depress feature to stop them from being turned on by simple touch. I came in the house approximately 20 minutes after I had been in the house and put groceries in refrigerator directly opposite the range/oven. I found one of the stove elements on and hot enough that it had discolored wood trim on the cabinet adjacent to the range/oven. No one else had been in the house and some groceries had been on the top of the range approximately 30 minutes before for a brief time while the bags were being unloaded and items stored in pantry. This assures me that the cooking elements on top were not already on from prior cooking several hours earlier that day. I don’t recall brushing against the control panel of the range/oven but I was able to do some testing and if I bend over in a manner consistent with putting item in lower levels of the refrigerator opposite the range and my butt will be on the control knobs. If I move the knobs can roll to an ON position with little effort. By luck I entered my house and felt the heat and smelled an odor of heated wood not unlike burning wood in a fire pit. I quickly determined that one of the cooking elements was in HI heat position and the wood of cabinet nearby was browned from the heat and had very high temperature a that moment. I have great concern that there was a condition that would have lead to a fire if I had not found it when I did.

The product, in the report: Oven/stove
I am a fire investigator for the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department. I recently investigated an oven fire in an apartment. The resident stated he smelled something hot in his apartment when he discovered a fire in his oven. He looked and verified all the controls of the oven and stove top were turned off. The did not see any lights on the control panel indicating anything was on. He opened the oven door and used a dry chemical fire extinguisher to attempt to extinguish the fire. He then called 911. The fire crew arrived on the scene and saw smoke in the apartment. They got to the oven and verified all the controls were in the off position. They also verified the door lock was in the open position. They could see the inside of the oven glowing. The oven did not stop glowing until they unplugged it from the 220 volt outlet. The resident stated he had not used the oven for the last month. The owner of the apartment stated he thought the oven was about 7 years old.

On Father’s Day I put baked beans and mac and cheese in my GE wall oven. The mac and cheese was done so I opened the oven door and took out the pan and my glass oven door on the outside exploded. Glass went everywhere, on me, my 4 puppies that were in the kitchen, and all throughout the bottom floor of my home and even in the food. My concern is that I have contacted GE and I know the oven is out of warranty but they have been very vague stating these things happen. I would like other to be aware of this so no one is seriously hurt. I did receive cuts and one of the puppies had glass in his foot but thank the Lord nothing more. What a mess.

The consumer turned the oven on WARM for about eight minutes when her smoke alarm went off. The consumer went to the kitchen and noticed that the food was on fire. The consumer put the fire out and turned the oven off. The consumer walked away for less than five minutes and when she returned to the kitchen, she noticed the oven light was still on and her food was again on fire. The consumer noticed her food was on fire again as the top coil never turned off; the glass container inside the oven shattered. The consumer switched the breaker off.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer to schedule for a Service Technician to inspect her unit on 06/19/2017; after inspection the Service Technician informed the consumer what part needed to be ordered.
06/20/2017 - The consumer contacted Consumer Relations and was informed that the Service Technician told them the problem with the oven range was not hazardous so they would only be able to pay for parts and not labor.
The consumer states that she used the cooktop approximately four times weekly, whereas the oven was used approximately three to four times per week.
The consumer is unsure if she will have her oven range for the next thirty days.

Right dual burner was on and started to emit sparking and blew the circuit breaker. Waited a while and reset the circuit breaker and again it sparked and blew the circuit breaker.
I went to the website regarding the issue and apparently GE is aware that it is common for this to occur because they did not put enough cover or insulation around the knob to prevent water from shorting it out.

The product, in the report: GE SLIDE IN RANGE AND OVEN MODEL PS968TP3CC
Product is a GE SLIDE IN RANGE AND OVEN MODEL PS968TP3CC
Panel covering the glass oven door falls off onto the floor exposing the extremely hot glass service. This is an obvious design flaw. The cover panel is a plastic material approximately 1/8 in. thick. The top slides up into some plastic grooves. The bottom of the panel rests on a metal edge which is less than 1/8 wide. The only thing holding the bottom panel on is a narrow strip of adhesive tape. When the oven door gets hot the adhesive loosens causing the panel to fall off onto the floor.
GE Consumer Advocate recommends the panel be in place when the oven is used because the glass oven door will become extremely hot and could cause a burn. We are especially concerned if a child were to touch it. GE’s only remedy is for us to purchase another identical panel with the same strip of adhesive tape. This is not a solution as the heat from the door will cause the adhesive to release the panel causing it to fall to the floor exposing the extremely hot service. This is a serious safety factor which could easily be solved by the GE engineers with an inexpensive fix.
Other GE models like this have a channel on the bottom which prevents the panel from falling off. One example is GE Model JB250DFWW. We have always used GE products and cannot understand GE’s failure to take responsibility for such an obvious problem and simply “Do The Right Thing”.

GE Spectra Range/Oven Model JBP82WF2WW During pre heating of oven, the oven bake heating element (heating element at bottom of oven) caught fire. This range/oven was included in a new construction house and is approximately eight years old. After this incident I did some checking on-line and found that this is not an isolated incident. I found many consumer reports outlining the same experience.

The product, in the report: glass GE stove top
DETAILS ---- I recently put a pot of water on my glass GE stove top and went into the other room. About 2 minutes later I heard this deafening boom. I returned to the kitchen and the entire stovetop had exploded and sent shards of glass, some of them 8 to 10 inches long, across the kitchen. If I had been in the kitchen at the time, it would have seriously maimed me at the least or could have killed me outright. After 4 months of trying to get GE to replace and install another stove top, they have decided to charge me for a new stove top and installation because it is out of warranty. I asked them if the original warranty covered explosions which they admitted it did not so I asked them if explosions weren’t covered in the warranty what did it matter if it was under warranty or not? I asked them if they designed their stove tops to explode. They said they didn’t so I told them if you don’t design them to explode, then the stove tops which do explode must be defective. They then said that they couldn’t be sure that I hadn’t done something to cause it to explode so I told them they couldn’t prove that I had so it was a moot point. The tech they sent out told me he had seen other instances of this problem and that it was possible to cause microfractures in the stovetop by scratching it or dropping something like a frying pan or can of food on it which would eventually cause it to blow up. So, is a consumer supposed to inspect the stovetop with a magnifying glass before each use? What if there are microfractures and he misses them? Is it then the users fault if he is killed or injured when it explodes? If GE knows that it has a problem where the stovetops can injure someone, shouldn’t they do a recall before that happens? This is a multi-million dollar corporation and it would probably cost them less than $100 to do the right thing but instead they price a new stove top at over $500 plus close to $200 dollars for installation. At this point, I think III just become someone else’s customer and take them to small claims court. It will cost them more to send someone to court than it would for them to just do the right thing and replace the stovetop and have their tech install it. I hope that no one is ever hurt by their product in the future but, if they ever are, I hope they (or their survivors) wind up owning GE. My next stove top will definitely not be glass.

The product, in the report: Built-in wall oven, about 10 years old
A home owner started the self-cleaning function of his built-in oven. About 30 minutes later the oven began smoking and the smoke alarm sounded. He called 9-1-1 and fire department personnel responded. The oven was pulled from its shelf in the wall. The shelf that held the oven had started burning. The fire damage was concentrated on the supporting shelf, which was holding the oven in place. A review of the installation instruction manual found that no space was called for between the oven and the wooden particle board shelf.
It was apparent that the heat of the oven transferred into the particle board shelf through radiant and conductive heat. A small hole was burned through the particle board and fire began to extend up into the back portion of the wooden cabinet. Fire was extinguished at that point and was confined to the immediate area of fire origination

The product, in the report: GE Range, Model number - JB400DP1WW
I was baking some cookies in my GE range oven at 350 degrees. I turned the oven off and went about cleaning the kitchen. My 11 month old son pulled himself to a standing position using the oven door to brace himself. He screamed and cried and dropped to the floor. I picked him up and when trying to figure out what happened, I realized there was a lot of heat next to me. I placed my hand on the window portion of my oven door and it was so hot to the touch that if you left your hand on there for more than a couple of seconds you would burn your hand badly. My son’s hand was red, but thankfully, he was okay and did not have any continuing issues. I went to Sears where I purchased the oven and they referred me to call GE directly. A GE technician came out and after turning the oven on for a few minutes, taking the door apart, his solution was : the door gets hot, keep the kiddies away. I bought this oven to replace my previous GE range and never had any problems in the past. I feel this is a very serious issue and that it should be addressed. I would never have bought this oven if I had thought it could be a safety issue for my children. I also feel that I should not have to shoo my children out of the kitchen ( a kitchen I feel is safe & childproofed except for the now hot oven door ) while I am cooking and baking. I have always been able to have my children with me in the kitchen within reason. I was under the impression that a tempered glass oven door should shield some heat and not allow the door to get to levels that could potentially cause serious injury. I have talked to several other mothers and none of them have ever noticed this as being a problem in their kitchens. I have 4 children, a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and 11 month old twins and I believe that if this had been a problem in the past, I would have noticed it long before now. We purchased this oven in February 2010. I feel in this day and age with safety at the forefront of our minds and homes, an oven door should not be a burn hazard in my home, especially a new oven.
