The product, in the report: Oven
Caller stated that the range/oven back panel vent disperses CO into the room, causing the carbon monoxide alarm to go off. She stated that there is window next to the unit which caused the CO to not overwhelm the occupants in the home.
Caller stated that the technicians came out but they did not get the correct reading.
Caller feels that the oven vent should have been covered which is leaking CO into the home.
For this new oven, GE did not come out at all.
[ILLEGIBLE] only tested inside the oven which showed a low amounty CO, but did not test the air near the oven then so the high CO level then was only being picked up by the co alarm going off in the next room, showing the [ILLEGIBLE] amount of CO had escaped through that back panel vent (defective, should be closed)
Gas of oven shut off [ILLEGIBLE] arrival here red tagged [ILLEGIBLE]
This new oven, installed Nov ‘24 has the [ILLEGIBLE] back panel open vent defect the older one, [ILLEGIBLE], in Jan - Feb 24, by GE (but not [ILLEGIBLE] by GE) and by [ILLEGIBLE], at that time, GE [ILLEGIBLE] the warranty [ILLEGIBLE].
NOTE: When GE examined the old one in Jan - Feb ‘24 they were unaware of the back panel defect. Their repair contractor was not told of it and I only found it and is connection with the next oven [ILLEGIBLE] the manual’s illustration. And they were [ILLEGIBLE].

The product, in the report: GE slide in range model JS760SLSS, convection oven, stainless
I set the self cleaning option for my GE slide in range (model JS760SLSS) for a 3 hour clean. The oven was not dirty nor grease filled, just getting ready to bake cookies the following day. Went to bed. The next day, when I opened the oven door, the interior glass was cracked completely open, in half top to bottom and the from the middle crack to one side and the entire inside of the oven was covered in white ash and a while film. The convection fan is covered too. Cant be wiped off -its not grease ash, I used no cleaning product. I just set the oven for a 3 hour self clean. Basically exploded while my family was asleep. Contacted GE, they sent a repairman fully commissioned, but they wont (cant) repair or even acknowledge that this was a safety issue. No one was hurt but myself, husband and daughter were all asleep in our home when this occurred

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 6, 2023, sent to the company Feb 9, 2023, published by CPSC Feb 24, 2023
The product, in the report: This is a black 4 burner cook stove with oven. It is made by GE, but I can not read the manufacture date.
While cooking on the top burners, if you have the setting up to any where between medium to high, the top of the stove about up to around 2 inches all the way around the burner gets so hot that it can actually burn your hand if you should touch it. I was cooking some hash browns the other day and one little piece fell in the area described and you could hear it actually sizzling. If you try to take a wet cloth to wipe up any spills in that area you can hear the wet cloth sizzle. The top of the stove gets very hot also when using the oven. The stove is black in color and has had this problem since I bought it new from an individual. I worry that my small child may put her hand up there, even though I watch her we all know children can be quick behind our back.

We saw that the outer glass on our oven door had completely shattered, sprinkling some of the glass on the floor. There was no apparent cause for this happening. The glass continued to spiderweb out for the next hour or two. Luckily, no one was injured, but, if any of us had been standing next to it when the break occurred, especially my toddler, we could have been.

I have 2 of the GE Ovens, Model number JGB700SEJ4. I feel it is very unsafe and dangerous to have the fire inside the oven, without any cover. I already had twice that baking paper started burning. As well that when taking out stuff from the oven, my hand actually touched the flame several times (the date I entered is the last time this happened). This is dangerous!!! I feel this model must be restructured. I don’t feel comfortable to use this, and would like them to replace this for me with a safer model.

While baking in the lower oven (GE Profile) some butter spilled onto oven floor, which resulted in a lot of smoking. We shut the oven off, gas, etc. When the oven cooled, we washed inside of oven, door, racks, etc. Then set oven to steam clean with water. Flames came from under the oven bottom, smoke smelled like burning plastic. Shut oven off again, then removed oven floor. only to discover that what appears to be some kind of blacked foam in a metal hole below heating unit. There was no evidence of butter near this hole. What was that foam (a flame retardant?) and why was it able flame up like that? The inside of the oven was covered in black soot, as well as the wall where the smoke bellowed out. Lower oven not usable, obviously. Top oven needed sensor replacement as well as motherboard (still waiting for the part). Contacted GE 8/25/2020 as well.

The product, in the report: GE Profile double wall oven Model PT7550SFss
GE Profile double wall oven PT75505FSS was purchased in 2017 and stored at the seller’s warehouse until installation. It was installed in our new house 1 1/2 years ago. On 1/2/2020 I turned on the broiler. A minute or so later there was a loud explosion, a flash, and a fire in the oven. If it had occurred when I was opening the door at the time, I would have been injured by the exploding bits of melted metal. The flying metal “bb’s” chipped the glass door. The element apparently shorted out, caught fire and melted aluminum dripped on the oven floor. Of course it was out of the ONE year warranty (it expired shortly after the oven was installed due to construction delays). After scheduling 2 service calls (one of which was changed without notice to us), we met with the tech. GE tech [REDACTED] documented the issues in a log. He ordered parts and came back a week later to discover the glass door was chipped and one of the new parts had a bent frame. He re-ordered parts and we re-scheduled again for the earliest available date another week later. However, the tech did not show up, no one called, and after contacting them again, we have scheduled yet a 3rd repair visit. I won’t have had an oven for 6 weeks if they actually show up and repair it next week. When I looked online to see if others were having problems I see that there were several class action lawsuits as early as 2011 regarding the self cleaning feature destroying the oven control and/or shattering the glass door. I had used the self cleaning feature for the first time, sometime after Christmas but didn’t make any connection until I read about the class action. At the time, it seemed like the oven got very, very hot. GE apparently has not changed it’s defective manufacturing and design issues even though they’ve had plenty of time to do so. I’m concerned that even if they repair it, it will still be unsafe to use and that another purchaser may be injured.

Purchased a GE CookTop Model JP3536DJ1BB June 20, 2017. While scrambling eggs on the center burner tonight, I heard a loud pop and saw where a triangular piece of the glass top had blown off. Before my eggs were finished cooking, I heard another loud pop. Upon removing my frying pan from the burner, I noticed that the entire center burner was horribly cracked in multiple directions. I assume the frying pan kept this glass from being blown across the kitchen. I called GE and was told that this is not normal and they would send a repair person for $99 + labor + parts......otherwise known as an unknown amount. Luckily neither myself nor my dog were injured by the shattered glass. Please advise as to if this should be acceptable for an appliance. I think not.

The product, in the report: GE Cafe Series Double oven Model CGS990SET8SS, SERIAL #TG173717P
GE Cafe Series double oven Model CGS990SET8SS purchased 10/29/2016. We were cooking lasagna in the bottom oven at 350 degrees for about 2 hours. I changed the temperature setting to 425 as it was not hot enough. Within minutes I heard an electrical pop sound. After looking for a few seconds I noticed the lights were out on the control panel and the owner oven stopped working. Everything else worked. We had a GE repair tech look it today and I mentioned the igniter problem I read about as he was checking other things and stated he was a bit lost on this one when I explained the symptoms. He opened the bottom plate to find a dime sized hole melted through the solid steel bottom. He then ordered parts, scheduled a repair date for June 5th, and gave me the customer relations number and left.
The bottom oven igniter is installed too close to the oven metal bottom plate. The igniter over time melts a hole in the metal bottom plate in turn shorting out the system on mine and blowing out the control panel. I called GE Customer relations at 1-1800-386-1215 and they only offer a 20% coupon for parts only. GE makes a fix for this problem but they HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. And they will not inform consumers nor fix the problem. My repair will be between $400-$600. The appliance costs over $3000 new. The internet is littered with this exact complaint AND GE has the modified part already. This could easily have ignited the floor beneath. It melted a dime sized hole completely through solid metal which sits only about 2” above the bamboo floor it sits on.
This will start fires and/or kill someone if it hasn’t already.

The stove design includes burner knobs which are above the level of the cooking surface. This has resulted in the burner(s) being turned on accidentally when setting something on the stove surface. It has happened numerous times. Melting or catching on fire has resulted. Looking at other stoves on the market they all seem to keep the knob profile below surface level. The knob needs to be depressed before turning but that is exactly what happens when something is set on it. The knob is then easily spun to on, by the weight of the object. The model is GE JS750DF3BB

The product, in the report: FREE STANDING ELECTRIC SELF CLEANING CONVECTION RANGE
The outer glass door of our GE oven range exploded by itself and shattered the glass all over the place. We have seldom used this oven, maybe twice a month or less. During this time we cooked a vegetable just quick maybe 10 minutes at most, then after 30 minutes after the oven was already turned off, we were standing 10 feet away and suddenly we heard a load bang. That’s when we noticed the glass door shattered and small glass pieces all over it. My first thought was that what if a baby or a kid was in front of it when it explodes. The fact that it exploded itself when nobody was using or touching is a very serious safety concern.
I contacted GE and they said they will not cover anything since it is out of warranty and even claim that we hit it. This is so ridiculous. This is not about the warranty anymore, it is about safety. They asked me to get a technician to look what’s an issue with their oven, make a report and send it to GE. I declined, I said why it is me to pay a technician to look what’s wrong at your oven. I told them to bring their own technician and look at their oven.
I search the internet and this looks like not an isolated incident, lots of this happened and it already in the news.

turned self cleaning oven to clean per manual instuctions and latched door and light came on indicate cleaning (end of 2015) When cleaning was complete door unlatched and light went off automaticaly Upon opening the door the exterior side of the door (Room side) glass exploded and shards of glass blew across room cutting me. Called GE but they said not their problem and call a repair company we did Repair people intalled new glass on exterior side of door and noted to me that it appeared that the face plate holding the two glass windows was torqued to tight by manufacture therefor extreme heat possibly warped the plate causing glass to shatter. Cost was approx 150.00 and we presented this to GE for reimbursment but they said not their problem
Nov 2016 we attempted again to clean the oven and again followed the maint manual directions Cleaning lite came on and latch on door locked door After lite went out and latch released itself I opened door and found that the inside glass was shattered Again we went to GE and they again said not their problem We calledseveralprofessional appliance repair co for estimate. estimate range for glass, installation and service call was over 300.00 the repair man suggested we call GE and tell them that it was his opinion that the metal plate holding the glass in was installed incorectly and the heat caused the glass to crack. We found it more prudent to purchase a new range oven that cost 400.00 rather than spend over 300.00 for a fix
Again GE replied that it was not their problem

The product, in the report: GE Monogram 48 inch stainless steel dual fuel range with two ovens, six burners and griddle.
I have a two and a half year old GE Monogram range, model ZDP486NDPSS. Yesterday, my wife opened the smaller of the two ovens and noted that the top oven element had fallen, getting very close to the rack. From my inspection, the root of the problem appears to be faulty tack welds between a metal plate forming the top of the oven cavity, and the metal bracket which supports the actual heating element. Its electrical connections are unaffected. It seems to me that this failure, if it occurred during use of the oven, could easily result in physical contact between the element and food, potentially resulting in a large amount of smoke release and potentially a fire. I have photos of the issue

GE is aware of this and have replaced some free of charge but as far as I know, no recall or replacement has been offered to anyone.
I have a GE Oven with a glass front door and it exploded into a million pieces for no reason. It was not damaged, it was not hit, nothing. I have seen several complaints of this online. I now have to try to find a replacement and it is not easy and it is not cheap. I also have the exact same oven in my vacation home and I am afraid it will happen to that one too.

Hurt, no treatment Made Oct 18, 2016, sent to the company Oct 26, 2016, published by CPSC Nov 9, 2016
The product, in the report: GE self-cleaning radiant ranges model #JBP72K0K1CC & serial #VH2495190
I have a GE oven model#JBP72K0K1CC that was purchased new with my condo @10 years ago which I have used infrequently over the years. On Sunday, October 16, 2016 I baked a frozen pizza @ 325 degrees for about 25-30 minutes in my oven then I turned the oven off leaving the remaining pieces in the oven & left the room & a short while later I heard a loud popping sound & when I went back into the kitchen & opened up oven door the inside glass had exploded covering the interior of the oven & falling into the broiler draw & dropping all over the floor. Upon searching the internet to get information about the instances of this happening which seems to not be all that uncommon I tried to find out if there was a recall or any warning from General Electric with regards to exploding oven doors which there seems to me to be no such thing on General Electric’s part & honestly since I live alone in a retirement community & rarely use use my oven at all this has come as a great shock & as there are many elderly in my condo community who have the same oven & I’m concerned about the danger this defect potentially will pose with the other @ 200 residents. After contacting General Electric the only option that they offer is to buy a replacement door @ $67.75 then charges for service to make the trip to repair it is an another $99.95 & there is an additional charge for labor which they couldn’t quote since it would depend upon however long it will take to repair so without the labor charges it already totals @ $167.70. It seems to me this is excessive considering that the glass exploded for no apparent reason especially in light of the fact I rarely if ever use my oven, and frankly I could’ve been injured badly if the oven had been on or opened it while it was exploding. I’m hoping that by filing this report I might be able to get some guidance on how to proceed with this matter & how to alert my neighbors of this serious danger this presents to them as well. Thanks for your kind consideration & I look forward to hearing from you soon! [REDACTED]

GE has been contacted and sent out a rep to make sure the oven would work after the element was replaced. I purchased a GE range in January 2013 (model PS905TP). From the day it was installed I have complained the dual burner does not work properly. When the small burner is turned on the entire burner comes on making it extremely unsafe. After burning my arm I had to quit using the small burner all together. GE replaced the burner, which did not change the problem. Finally, they told me to live with it. I paid a lot for this range, and it is disappointing I cannot use all the burners because I am concerned about getting burned. A non GE repairman said he had never seen a dual burner without a divider. This is not our first range with a dual burner, but this is the first time we have had a problem with a dual burner.

The product, in the report: GE free standing Profile oven range.
On June 23 at approximately 2:30 P.M. while the oven was in use in convection mode, the exterior door shattered scattering shards within 15 feet of the oven. The shards consisted of sharp pointed fragments of glass and some composite. Had an adult or child been present, serious injury could have resulted. No one was injured although if any person had been near the oven, an injury could have resulted. The oven had been properly used. The door had not been damaged. The oven door had not sustained an impact in the 14 months since it was installed.

Fire in GE stove/oven Design Defect
Our 4 month old GE stove/oven has had 2 fires in the last 3 weeks which I believe is due to a design defect. Mice from the neighboring field had stockpiled food/nesting material in the bottom of the oven below a steel plate, making this fuel unnoticeable when loading the oven. An examination of the range shows that there is no screening whatsoever to prevent mice entry; in fact, the back and bottom of the range is wide open giving unfettered access to the burner area. GE has done nothing except tell us they are unilaterally voiding our warranty due to an undisclosed policy. I don’t expect GE to catch our mice, but I do expect that they would be cognizant of mice in kitchens and design their products to prevent mouse-caused fires. A little screen in the manufacturing process would solve the problem. GE model : JG8282DETWW

The product, in the report: Stove
I recently purchased a GE stove, model number JBP15DM1WW, serial number FZ243414P. I purchased this via website because I was looking for various features, such as front mounted knobs. A few days after it was installed I noticed that the oven had been turned on. Apparently this occurred when I brushed up against it with my backside. Two days later the oven was turned on again, this time by my dog’s wagging tail. The burner knobs need to be pushed in and then turned, which is not the case with the oven knob. I’ve since removed the oven knob to prevent my house from burning down. Even with the knob removed, the stem can easily be turned by hand. I contacted Lowe’s, where I purchased the stove and they sent out a repair person He stated that this is the way it was made. I then contacted the GE Customer Advocate. She stated that there are models that are made this way. I can’t believe that anyone would intentionally design a heat generating appliance with such an unsafe, hazardous feature. There are many people who store food in their ovens, bread, chips, etc. With an oven that can be turned on without human effort or knowledge is a fire and/or lawsuit waiting to happen. I can just imagine someone’s grandchild turning on the oven, even using just the stem. Then fire erupts in the middle of the night and there are fatalities, with GE being responsible due to an unsafe product. In addition, why isn’t there an indicator light which goes off when the oven has reached its set temperature?

The product, in the report: GE Cafe Series Dual Fuel Convection Range
In February 2008 we purchased a GE Cafe Series Dual Fuel Convection Range and with the exception of one item, we have been very pleased with the product. The exception is the tit and feel of the adjustment knobs on the front of the range. The knobs do not feel solid; they wiggle and wobble as they are being adjusted, primarily due to the long plastic shaft that weakly connects the knob to the valve shaft. I showed the situation to a GE repair technician making a repair call for our refrigerator and he showed me that a cracked plastic shaft (see photo 1) caused the problem. Every burner knob had the same defect. The lower oven knob was OK, probably due to the shorter plastic shaft and/or stronger material used for that knob. Due to the high cost of replacement knobs (the service technician thought replacement knobs would have the same design), I decided to just Jive with the wobbly knobs. However, I recently returned to a smoke-filled home caused by a burner being left on under a pot of food. My wife had turned the burner knob to the off position before leaving home but the knob had slipped on the valve shaft and the burner remained on. In the daylight, the flame was not visible under the large pot Upon inspection of the knob, I found that the cracked plastic shaft had allowed the metal insert to fall out, thus making the knob Jess connected to the valve shaft (see photo 2). I verified that the burner could remain on with active flame even with the knob in the off position. It made my wife feel better that she hadn’t forgotten to tum off the burner, but it pointed out to me a issue with this knob design that should be brought to your attention. In the interim, I have decided to repair the plastic shaft with epoxy. If replacement knobs are available of a higher quality, I would strongly consider purchasing them. At minimum, I would appreciate receiving one or two of the metal inserts that have been lost so I can more effectively repair the knobs.

I promptly turned it off. When I tried opening the door there were flames in the oven.
The fire department responded, the fire was contained in the oven and eventully burned out.

I had cooked dinner and was about ready to sit down and eat when I heard a loud pop as my oven door glass shattered into a million pieces. My child was about two feet away from the stove when it shattered and luckily didn’t get hurt. The stove was off and was cooling off for at least 5 minutes before it shattered. Nothing made it shatter like hitting the glass or slamming the door. I have been fighting with GE for over a month now and they wont do anything about it because they say since my warranty expired they dont have to fix it. They have said that they are at fault and it was faulty equipment but the most they will do is lower my cost to $300 and not give me a warranty on that replacement glass. They have been terrible to work with.

I turned on my GE Range to cook a ham. after couple of minutes I saw sparks and a flame in the oven. The lower heating element looked like an arc welder, it was on fire and sparking. The time display was flashing like crazy. I turned the oven off but the fire did not go out. I pulled the lower drawer out so I could reach the electrical plug and I unplugged it. The fire eventually went out. I went to a appliance parts store and bought a replacement lower heating element for $35. I installed it. I plugged the oven in and it was flashing code “F3”. The oven would not heat up. I did research on-line and was directed to check the resistance of the temperature probe, I did this and the ohms were 1,083. This indicated the probe was “good”. The next possible correction was to replace the control board. Since the part cost was approximately $250 I made the decision to buy a new range and have the GE hauled away. We are a family of 5 and are fortunate that we were in the kitchen and acted quickly. Our house could have burnt down.

The self clean within an hour’s time the outside of the oven reached 170 degrees. GE told repairman that the maximum exterior temperature should not exceed 116 degrees. 8/15/12; Repairman replaced the Fan Motor and nothing changed. It is a faulty oven. We purchased 6/23/12 and installed the oven 6/26/12 upon delivery as per instructions and we set upper oven to self clean as instructed [to burn off any chemicals/odors from manufacturer]. At one hour into the cycle I approached the unit to find the exterior extremely hot so I turned it off. It is a fire hazard. The exterior was far too hot to be safe. We then spent much time and effort trying to speak to an actual person to explain our safety concerns with this brand new oven. These attempts to actually speak to a person were to no avail. Finally, through the warranty repair automated phone system, Advanced Appliance Repair contacted me. We scheduled a “repair” time which was ridiculous because a brand new never used oven should not need repairs. The two repairmen set the oven to self clean and at the 45 minute mark they agreed that the outside of the oven reached an unsafe temperature. They then tested the cooling fan to make sure it was receiving sufficient power. It was. They were of the opinion that it’s likely a design flaw.

Subject: Exploding Glass Oven Doors
In the interests of consumer safety and product reliability I would think you would address the countless reported incidents of tempered glass oven door fronts literally exploding, and forcefully showering glass shards into the surrounding area . ... . See Google; “Exploding Glass Oven Doors”.
The manufacturers are apparently refusing to acknowledge this design flaw, (similar to the [REDACTED] of the seventies).
In our case, the disconnected oven door had been lying on a counter top for further cleaning. When two hands grasped either side to pick it up it literally exploded! - sending shards of glass into adjacent rooms as far away as twenty or more feet. My hands received several cuts, but I shudder to think of my resultant bloodied face and eyes had the door been facing me.
I think that your organization should consider an investigation into this situation and publicly expose the phenomenon.
