I had just finished making vegan taco meat on my stove and I was baking tortillas in the oven at 300°F when I smelled something burning. The heat was off on my burner so I checked the tortillas and they weren’t even close to being done. I waited a minute and the smell got stronger. I checked the tortillas again but they still weren’t ready. That’s when black smoke started coming from the back of the oven. Luckily, my hood auto started from the heat. I immediately got my animals, went outside and called 911. The fire fighters arrived quickly and were able to put the fire out. I had GE come out and they have said that it isn’t repairable and offered me a discount on a new stove. I have consulted an attorney.

The product, in the report: GE Monogram Stainless Steel Double Wall oven Model ZET2P0L1SS

My wife set the thermostat on the lower oven of the GE Monogram double wall ovens to “Convection Bake” and 350 degrees. A couple of minutes later she called me in because of a large amount of smoke and a strong burning smell coming from the oven. We shut the ovens off and the smoke quickly disappeared. The next day we turned the unit on to see if the problem was the oven or if there was some burnt food inside. About 2 minutes into pre-heating, loud pops, sparks, and flames started flashing in the space between the two ovens. I quickly shut down the oven and the sparks flashed a few more times before finally stopping. I shined a flashlight into the space to make sure the flames were out and could see a burnt electrical board with components that appeared melted and badly charged connectors.

The product, in the report: 30” GE Monogram Pro Built in oven with slide out racks Model # ZET1PMSS

I was utilizing the self cleaning option on my 8 month old GE Monogram wall convection oven for the first time. After 1.5 hours into the cleaning cycle, I heard a loud bang and popping sound in my kitchen. When I looked in the kitchen, all seemed normal. When the cleaning cycle was completed & the oven unlocked, I opened the oven door to see how clean my oven was. To say I was astonished to see the inner glass shattered within my oven & spilling onto the floor, is an understatement! I had just spent $3400 on this! I am blessed that my dogs & children were not harmed by the glass & that it is covered under warranty. Consumers need to be aware though that this is VERY common! I did months of research prior to my purchase & never saw one mention of this hazard. When I specifically searched “shattered oven door glass GE Monogram self clean”, I was disgusted with the amount of complaints. Even more disappointing was how GE will not support their consumers if it is beyond their warranty period.

    To Whom It May Concern:

We have a GE Monogram Professional Range that was installed in our new home in November of 2008. We don’t use it much as we have an Outdoor Kitchen that we use often to do our grilling.

In the past several months, I have noticed that when I use the oven a strong odor when I open the oven door, and it causes a burning sensation in my eyes. Could never understand what was causing that since there is nothing noticeable on the bottom of the oven. Tonight after baking some boneless chicken breasts that were covered, I decided to clean the oven. After several minutes of the oven being in the “Clean Cycle”, I happened to walk back in the kitchen and noticed flames in the bottom of the oven. I ran over to turn it off and the flames started going down and eventually subsided. It created a horrible smell and again caused a burning sensation in the eyes.

Once the oven cooled and we were able to open the door, the bottom center of the oven appears charred.

I have left a message this evening, and I am also following up with this Consumer Complaint. Please have someone call me at [REDACTED] to get this matter taken care of.

Thank you so much for your help,
