The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Made Feb 6, 2025, sent to the company Feb 11, 2025, published by CPSC Feb 26, 2025

The product, in the report: Oven

A GE oven was used to bake a pizza at 400F for 20 minutes. The oven was on for no longer than 35 to 45 minutes in total, including preheating and baking time. Approximately 15 minutes after the pizza was removed and the oven was no longer in use, the oven door glass suddenly shattered, sending glass shards flying throughout the kitchen and surrounding areas.

The product, in the report: GE Induction Range Model PHS930SL2SS https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-Profile-30-Smart-Slide-In-Front-Control-Induction-and-Convection-Range-PHS930SLSS Two videos of the cooktop turning itself on are located here: [REDACTED]

My GE PHS930SL2SS has turned the induction cooktop by itself multiple times now, most recently on Nov 15th. This induction range has a capacitive touch panel for control. The oven was being used to cook potatoes. After opening the oven, moist air is released from the oven. This moist air gets into the control panel through some vents right above the oven door. The moist hot air touches the cool glass and boards underneath the capacitive touch panel and triggers false touch events turning the stove top on. The user is unable to turn off the burner, except by using the “lock” function to disable the touch surface.

The panel was replaced earlier under the extended warranty, but the issue persists. It seems that this is a fundamental design flaw.

As we are aware of the flaw, we have been able to either remove power to the stove or to lock the control panel surface when we are not using it. Therefore, we have not had any injuries.

There have been no injuries since

The product, in the report: GE glasstop stove; see model and serial number elsewhere in this report. This is a builder-installed item; purchase location and date are unknown, although it was likely 2019. The GE genuine bulb replacement part no. is WB27T10668.

40amp breaker kept tripping. Sometimes it would reset, sometimes not. An independent repair technician discovered the red LED stovetop light had fallen out of its mounting hole and was shorting to the stove. The snap-in ceramic holder for the light would not go back into the mount and stay there because it was too small. The light was replaced, but doesn’t work at all now because the technician suspects the constant shorting damaged the control board.

The product, in the report: GE Appliance free standing range. Model JBP26WV2WW.

We were using the the oven to cook fries at 425 when I smelled plastic burning on the top of the range. I went to remove the plastic from the back small burner and burned my fingers touching the center piece of the burner coil. The back burner was not on. None of the burners were being used just the oven. There seems to be a lot of heat coming up from the oven at that back burner location only. So much that the burners gets very hot.

The product, in the report: Free standing stove/ oven combination

On 5/26/2019 the oven electronic controls started smoking and then burned out. I contacted the manufacturer since it is still covered under the warranty. They sent a repair person out on 6/3/2019. He claimed the control board was defective, and ordered me a new one and installed it on 6/21/2019. On 6/23/2019 smoke started coming from the control board again. I contacted GE’s help line and was told “do not use until a service person can come out”. On 6/26/2019 repair personnel came to my home performed an inspection, noticed the burns on the back of the unit, contacted his support group and said run self clean. On 7/2/2019 the control board started smoking and burned out again, causing a smoke condition in the home. I contacted GE customer service, sent them a picture of the inoperative device. After numerous e mails they just claim they are looking into the situation, but nothing more. I have turned off the circuit breaker to help minimize the risk of fire. There is a brown spot on the wall near where the smoke was seen coming from. Manufacturer: GE Appliances Model: PB930SL2SS SN: SL001667Q

  6. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made Aug 8, 2017, sent to the company Aug 16, 2017, published by CPSC Aug 30, 2017

The product, in the report: GE Stove with Self Cleaning oven Model number JS750DF3WW. Color is White.

In January 2017, I purchased a GE stove from Lowe’s in Rio Rancho NM. Since then, I get a massive pressure headache, eye swelling, and other neurological symptoms when the oven is in use. These symptoms last for days and some “may be permanent’ according to my doctor. I have followed the manufacturer instructions to get rid of the toxic smell but it has not worked and, not to mention, makes me feel horrible. I have even tried to run the oven with adequate ventilation to no avail. I thought, at first, that maybe it was not due to the oven and have seen many doctors, specialists, and 2 neurologists to help me rule out other possible illnesses. I am even being sent out of state to a special specialist, in October, for further testing. While searching the internet, I have also come across numerous others complaining about the same symptoms in relation to their new ovens. This is scary confirmation and I have since removed the oven from my house. I am an athlete and I pride myself on being active and busy. This GE Oven has taken this away from me. Now just putting on my shoes gives my brain a painful reminder of my current state. I am hoping that my report will bring to light a big problem in industry today so others do not have to suffer as I am.

The product, in the report: GE oven, door that shattered measures 23 1/4 inches by 19 inches. Cabinet cut out openings measure 22 inches. Oven is white in color.

I was in the kitchen preparing dinner using the stove, not the oven, when suddenly the oven door exploded and pieces of glass fell to the floor. No one was injured and I was the only one in the kitchen at the time it exploded. I had not used the oven since the night before.
