The product, in the report: Amana Big Oven, Model # ACF3355AW, Serial # 0111144363, part #319464
have an Amana Range called the Big Oven, Model #ACF3355AW, Serial #0111144363, that I purchased through Missouri Natural Gas, Festus MO. I used the self cleaning function only twice following all instructions in the manual. Aside from a horrible smell the first cleaning was ok. The second time the smell was worse. I opened windows both times. The second time I took our dogs and left the house because the smell was so intense. After the cool down, I opened the oven door. The plastic oven trim piece was melted. The number on the part is KIP5B27, 319464. Another line reads PBT+PET+15%GF. After the second cleaning I still baked but never used the self cleaning function again. Then last fall, a piece of the melted plastic broke off. So the oven became useless. I tried Whirlpool, many used appliance shops, on-line searches, etc. , obsolete, unavailable, etc. Finally, yesterday, 8/3/15, I took the melted top oven trim piece to John’s Appliances on Gravois in St. Louis City. He could not believe plastic was used at such high temps. Told me to contact your office even though the oven was not new. I have the melted piece if needed.

The product, in the report: Amana Self Clean Oven The Big Oven Capacity 5.14
My family had turned our Amana Big Oven (ACF422GAC model number) off and gone outside to eat the pizza we just cooked. When we came back in the house about an hour later and the oven was so hot that the plastic items sitting on the cook top were melted and a glass jar on the cook top had cracked. The oven was so hot that you could feel the heat from 5 feet away in the middle of the kitchen. The oven was turned off and yet it was reading F2 error code on the display. F2 means the oven is over 100 degrees above the maximum allowable temperature. After we turned off the breaker, we looked up repair options for error code F2. It said to replace the oven temperature sensor. We did this but the oven is still broken and extremely dangerous. If we turn the breaker back on, the oven immediately goes back to over 100 degrees above the allowable temperature. If we had left our home after cooking the pizza in it, I think it would have burned down our home. I have called Amana to discuss this with them but only get the run around. I am extremely disappointed that this could happen to an appliance.

The product, in the report: Amana Big Oven, Model # ACF3355AS, Serial # 11388139CJ
Amana Range, Model # ACF3355AS, Serial # 11388139CJ. We used the self clean option for the first time since we moved in (Dec 2011). After a few minutes, one of our smoke alarms and/or carbon monixide alarms went off. Excessive smoke and odor emitted from the top of the oven door. After 3 hours, the self cleaning was over. The door would not open, the oven displayed a “F9-2” error (latch error). Eventually we were able to open it. We noticed the plastic bezel on top of the door was melted all over the top of the oven door (photos available). There was a strong acrid odor throughout the house, which took several days to remove with open windows and doors. We contacted Amana (now Whirlpool) and talked to someone in their safety department. They agreed to pay for a service call by Central Service of Monona WI. The service tech inspected the range and reported back the next day that they believed the circuit board failed on the range, allowing the broiler relay to stay on too long, causing an overheat condition. The service tech contacted Whirlpool, and Whilpool refused to pay for repairs. I contacted the safety person at Whirlpool again, and they said they would not pay for repairs due to the age of the range (approximately 9 years old). The service tech advised us the range was safe to use, except for the self clean function. I consider this both a health and safety issue due to the toxic smoke generated from the melting plastic, and the risk of fire caused by the overheat.

The product, in the report: Amana Self Clean Oven
Amana Range Self clean oven Model ACS3350AS Just purchased home and was preheating oven to cook pizza. Noticed oven door would not shut tight. Noticed burning on outside of oven, control overlay panel and knobs. Oven became extremely hot on the outside during cooking. Burnt myself touching above oven door. Pizza would not cook according to directions because oven is releasing heat and frying control panel. Did research online and noticed MANY complaints regarding this range. The hinges are faulty which is frying the control panel and the unit becomes extremely hot. There is a class action lawsuit in Florida regarding this unit. This is a known problem out there but Amana refuses to acknowledge it. I am afraid to use my oven. They refuse to fix the problem.
