The product, in the report: Thermador convection oven, model number ME301JS, serial number 824060089801002004
I wanted to clean my oven. So I turned on the self clean feature today 11/17/2015 around 10am. My husband and I read the directions and took out the racks and pressed to self clean button. About 30 minutes later we heard a “boom” and what sounded like pebbles dropping. We looked around and found that glass was spilling out of the oven. My husband turned The oven off so that it would stop heating. Thank God we were home to turn off the oven or it would have started a fire. In addition we were fortunate that none of my children nor animals were around the oven when it exploded and the glass shattered. We took pictures and when the Oven cooled off enough my husband was able to determine that it was the middle pane of glass that had shattered. It is continuing to drop glass. I called Thermador and had to call back 5 times (due to being disconnected and cross connected) to get service. I finally have an appt on dec 3... After thanksgiving for the service guy. I bought the Thermador convection oven ME301JS on 7/8/14 and it was delivered and installed 9/10/14. It is still under warranty and I have all receipts.

No one hurt Made Jun 27, 2015, sent to the company Jul 7, 2015, published by CPSC Jul 21, 2015
The product, in the report: Built in double oven - stainless steel
I was baking in my Thermador double oven and during the process I was able to observe a flame inside the lower oven about 4” in height that appeared on the bottom heat element.
I turned off the oven while it was filling quickly with smoke. I kept the door shut so the flame would eventually die out. After the oven was vented, you could see that a rupture in the heat element had occurred and various spots on the heat element had corroded (pictures are available). I called Thermador and they sent out a technician on June 24th to conduct a diagnosis. The tech looked into the oven and said it was due to wear and tear.
This is the third heat element I have had to replace in these units. I have been a homeowner for 25 yrs. and this is my third house. I’ve never seen this happen in any oven before and feel there must be some sort of manufacturing defect with these heat elements and am concerned that it is a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Thermador Pro Grand 48” duel fuel range
Our 2004 Thermador PD486GEBS1/01 Dual Fuel range burst into flames when it was not in use. Thankfully, it was in the middle of the day and our cleaning lady was in the living room. If she had not been there to extinguish, our house would likely have burnt down. When Thermador was contacted about the problem, they sent inspectors out to our house where it was mentioned that a faulty circuit board had cause the accident. Thermador management told us it was a “safely contained” defect and offered us a 10% discount on a newly purchased range. My family could have been killed if the range had exploded at night when we were asleep. I will never buy from Thermador again and believe their products are poorly designed and dangerous to use.
