  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 7, 2026, sent to the company Mar 11, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 25, 2026

The product, in the report: Samsung Dual Fuel Range NY58J9850WS

I am submitting this report to raise a serious safety concern regarding a Samsung gas range model NY58J9850WS that is approximately 10 years old. Today, one of the burner control knobs failed in a way that created a potentially dangerous situation in my home. The plastic interface inside the burner knob cracked, which prevented the knob from properly engaging the gas valve stem. As a result, when my teenage daughter attempted to turn the burner off, she was unable to do so. The gas continued to flow because the broken plastic component inside the knob could not transmit the turning motion needed to shut the valve. This failure represents a significant safety hazard. The burner control knob is a critical safety control that must reliably allow the user to shut off the gas supply. A failure that prevents the gas from being turned off could easily result in a gas leak, fire hazard, or explosion risk if the user cannot quickly stop the flow of gas. Upon further inspection, it appears that a key structural part of the knob that interfaces with the valve is made of thin plastic that cracked during normal use. A component responsible for controlling a gas valve should not fail in a way that disables the ability to turn the gas off. I also discovered that the replacement knob from Samsung costs $146.95 plus shipping. This seems excessively expensive for a small plastic component that performs a critical safety function. The high cost may discourage consumers from replacing worn or weakened knobs before they fail, which could increase the risk of dangerous situations. Given the seriousness of a control failure that prevents gas shutoff, I believe this issue warrants investigation to determine whether the knob design is sufficiently durable for its safety function and whether similar failures have occurred with other consumers. I am submitting this report in the interest of consumer safety and to help prevent potentially dangerous gas control failures in other households.

We have a Samsung stove. The broiler will randomly turn on in convection or bake mode. When we turned the oven off the broiler stayed on. We had to turn the power off at the breaker. Researching this problem online and multiple people have the same issue.

The product, in the report: Samsung 30” slide in range.

Our stove has a mind of it’s own. The display turns on like we have touched the display to turn on the oven when we are not even close to the stove. It is a 2 section stove. It asks if we want to cook in the bottom or the top. Afraid it is a safety hazard and may try to turn on when we are not even home.

The product, in the report: Samsung Range and Cooktop and Dual Oven

On June 30, 2020 I turned my lower oven on to cook. Within 5 minutes smoke bellowed out with a horrendous smell. Range was unplugged but for approximately 15 minutes smoke was still coming out and we could see fire in the back of the range. I immediately called Sears Home Servicing to arrange an appointment to have a repairman come. It was scheduled for July 1, 2020. He took the back panel off and yes you could see where the wires burned. He then said it was due to grease in the back even though the range was only 4 1/2 months old. I explained that very little besides pizza and bread were cooked in the lower range and no way could that account for what he said was there. He admitted that some grease is placed there by the manufacturer to assemble it. Then he proceeded to say it was wired wrong in the wall unit but I explained to him that I did wire it, Sears did when installing it. The repairman plugged it in to see what happens and sure enough the heating element started smoking and firing again. He called his boss and told him I did not want anything to do with this range as I felt even with extensive repairs I could not trust it to do it again. I was told a representative from Sears would decide whether I could get a new range. Also it would take 3-7 days to decide whether with the warranty I could receive another range. After reading reviews on the Samsung range there were numerous complaints about the heating element catching fire and if we had gone outside to do our chores the house may have burnt down and with our animals inside. I just want a new range and not a Samsung so that I can feel safe in my own home.

The product, in the report: Samsung Double Wall Oven

Our Samsung Double Wall Oven (model: NV51K6650DS/AA : Serial 0EAV7DCJA00032M) randomly turns itself ON to the BAKE function and heats up without input from us. We first noticed this phenomenon in September of 2018, and we called Samsung for service. The service engineers replaced the ‘motherboard” and the wiring harness in September, but now as of late January 2019, the phenomenon has returned. Samsung’s response is to replace the “parts” again in the coming days. It is only the UPPER oven that turns itself ON and it is only the BAKE function, but the phenomenon occurs randomly. We must “throw” the circuit breaker to shut the oven off at night while we sleep.

The product, in the report: Samsung Electric Induction Range model # FTQ307NWGX/XAA

I purchased this product 11/11/2009. the first issue I had was 11/01/2010. Large burner stopped working. It was repaired under manufactuer warrenty. Now 1 year and 1 month after the initial repair, (the range is 2 years 2 months old), 2 burners stopped working. When the burner Quit, there was a loud pop and a blue light was showing under the cooktop. It did go out. A repairman from Samsung was sent out on 2/10/2012. He took the stovetop apart and told me it was irrepairable. Apparently when it blew, it generated enough heat to actually fuse the burner and the screw attatching the burner together. He said there was also some brown burn type marks in the area. That scared me. He put the stovetop together and said for me to contact Samsung. I did. They did not seem very concerned or acknowledge any problems with the design of the stove. I have a feeling this is a common problem. It has happened to me twice. I am verry dissapointed in the way Samsung is handling this matter, I have to be honest. I cannot beleive there have been no other reports of this on your site.
