The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  2. No one hurt

Made Aug 22, 2026, sent to the company Aug 27, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 14, 2026

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 30” Smart Oven+ Combination Wall Oven / Microwave, Model KOCE900HSS23, Serial DD4203877 (manufactured October 2024)

Product: KitchenAid 30 inch Smart Oven Combination Wall Oven-Microwave, Model KOCE900HSS23, Serial DD4203877 (manufactured October 2024, purchased out of warranty).

Description of incident: The unit’s shared touch control panel (installed part W10838153, Whirlpool’s current replacement part is W11304146) generates phantom ghost touch inputs. The panel scrolls menus and turns both the microwave and the oven heating elements ON and OFF by itself, unattended and repeatedly. This has occurred without anyone in the room. I’m worried this could cause a fire.

What I tried: - cleaned ribbon cable connectors with isopropyl alcohol - fully unplugged and reseated the ribbon cable at both ends (panel and control board) - power-cycled via circuit breaker for extended time. None resolved the behavior.

I now leave the breaker OFF most of the time and only energize the oven when in use. The oven is not really usable, though, as it turns itself OFF when I want it ON, and ON when I want it OFF.

Repair: The only remedy offered is replacing the entire touch panel assembly at my expense ($739.78 part + tax, ordered 8/22/2026). Notably, the installed panel (W10838153, manufactured 2023) has been superseded by a revised part number (W11304146), suggesting the manufacturer is aware of a defect pattern.

Requested action: Investigate this defect pattern in KitchenAid/Whirlpool combination wall ovens and evaluate for recall with consumer reimbursement of repair costs.

KitchenAid KDRP407HSS11, serial XS4410983. Oven was OFF and untouched. It spontaneously entered Bake at 350 degrees F and began heating. The control panel then became unresponsive, and the only way to stop the oven was to open the circuit breaker. The same uncommanded-start failure was subsequently reproduced.

The product, in the report: Product: KitchenAid KSIB900ESS Induction Slide-In Range Model Number: KSIB900ESS2 Serial Number: R92616182 Manufacturer: Whirlpool Corporation (KitchenAid brand)

Today, 7/11/2026, my KitchenAid KSIB900ESS induction range experienced internal fire - it began emitting smoke while in standby mode, not in use. Smoke appeared to originate from the rear of the unit, accompanied by a strong smell of electrical burning/melting plastic and wiring. Popping and sparking sounds were heard from the appliance. The smoke quickly filled the kitchen and spread through the house.

I pulled the range out from the wall and unplugged it to cut power. All household occupants experienced coughing from smoke inhalation. I turned on the kitchen exhaust fan and opened doors and windows to ventilate the house.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid 48-inch Smart Commercial-Style Dual Fuel Range with Griddle, Model KFDC558JSS, in stainless steel. It is a freestanding commercial-style range that pairs a 6-burner gas cooktop with an electric double oven. Ours is configured to run on liquid propane. The cooktop has 6 sealed gas burners with electronic ignition, controlled by six front-mounted knobs. The burner configuration includes two 20,000 BTU Ultra Power dual-flame burners, three 15,000 BTU burners, and one 5,000 BTU simmer and melt burner, plus a chrome electric griddle in the center. The double oven has a 6.3 cubic foot total capacity, with a 4.1 cubic foot primary oven and a 2.2 cubic foot secondary oven. Approximate dimensions are 47.88 inches wide, 36 inches high, and 30.25 inches deep, with a unit weight of about 487 pounds. The range is Wi-Fi connected and Star-K certified. The defect is on one of the six sealed gas burners. The gas valve and igniter assembly for that burner allows propane to flow continuously without the igniter triggering, so the burner releases raw, unlit gas into the home.

I’m reporting a dangerous gas-leak problem with our KitchenAid 48-inch dual-fuel range, Model KFDC558JSS, which runs on liquid propane and is installed in our home kitchen. It has six gas burners, each with a front knob that controls the gas and the igniter. One of the six burners is defective. When that burner is turned on, the gas flows continuously but the igniter never sparks, so it just pours out raw, unlit propane and does not stop. On a normal burner the gas only comes out when it is actually lighting. On this one that is broken, so the gas keeps running with no flame. It does not take a hard turn either. The knob can get bumped on, but the real danger is that once gas is flowing, it never ignites and never shuts off on its own. This is not a fluke. It happens every time, it is easy to reproduce, and it has happened multiple times. The escaping propane builds up fast and fills the house. If we did not catch it by smell, say it happened overnight while we were asleep, or when no one was in the kitchen, the home could fill with gas and any spark, such as a light switch, the AC kicking on, or the refrigerator, could set off a fire or explosion. This has already gotten bad enough that I had to get my wife and young kids out of the house until it cleared because I was afraid it would blow. The worst case here is that my whole family could be killed in an explosion or poisoned in their sleep. We only use the range for normal cooking. We are not doing anything wrong with it. This happens during ordinary use. KitchenAid and Whirlpool sent their service people out and they saw it themselves. Two different KitchenAid service contractors watched me reproduce the problem and agreed it was happening. They fixed the valve and igniter on one burner that was doing this, but then refused to fix a second burner that does the exact same thing, and now they are telling me that a burner leaking gas into our home is not a defect. So we are left with a known, admitted, easily repeatable gas leak that could kill my family, still sitting unrepaired in our house.

The product, in the report: Product: KitchenAid Dual Fuel Range Model: KFD500ESS02 Manufacturer: Whirlpool Corporation

    - Late January 2026 (approximately one week prior to February 1): I sustained a cut to my finger while using the range. During this incident, a small piece of metal became embedded in my finger. No photograph was taken.

    - February 1, 2026: My husband sustained a cut to his finger from the same appliance during normal use.

    - Early February 2026: A subsequent injury occurred involving the same appliance, resulting in a visible laceration. A photograph of this injury is available.

    - February 3, 2026: The issue was reported to Whirlpool.

    - March 17, 2026: A Whirlpool technician inspected the unit.

    - March 18, 2026: During a follow-up call, a representative indicated there may be a broader issue with the unit. The only resolution offered was a replacement requiring approximately $1,000 out-of-pocket. No no-cost repair or replacement option was provided.

Safety Concern: This appliance has caused multiple injuries under normal use conditions, including repeated cuts and embedded metal fragments. The presence of sharp or failing components creates an ongoing risk of injury.

In addition, this appliance is located in a household where children are frequently present, increasing the risk of accidental contact with hazardous components. Further, one of the injured parties is currently on blood-thinning medication, which increases the potential severity of injury from even minor cuts.

Despite acknowledging a potential broader issue with the unit, the manufacturer has not provided a no-cost remedy.

Requested Action: I am requesting that this issue be reviewed as a product safety concern. This product poses a risk of repeated injury, and appropriate corrective action should be considered.

The product, in the report: dual conventional oven and Microwave oven

The oven was on the self-clean setting for approximately 2 hours, when the oven’s inner glass shattered. The oven door’s outer glass remained intact. The consumer has never had any problems with the appliance in the past. However, this was her very first time using the self-cleaning feature. The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the issue to them. Their rep. agreed to send out a technician on 2/11/2026, to inspect it. There is supposed to be a sticker on either interior side of the oven with the model/serial number. The consumer believes that when it was installed, the installers may have either removed the sticker or something may have happened to it, because she could not see it.

The product, in the report: Built in double oven

Inner glass in my oven door spontaneously shattered causing glass shards to fly all over my kitchen. Incredibly unsafe. Thankfully, no one was in the kitchen when it happened so no one was injured. We did nothing to cause this. The oven wasn’t on, nothing hit the oven, there was disruption in the house like construction or something that could have banged on the oven and caused the glass to break. From my online research, it is due to defective glass. The glass could have easily gotten into food or cut someone. It is Kitchenaid model KODE500ESS05, Serial number DX3405398. This is a built-in double oven. The glass shattered on the bottom oven and I am very scared that the same defective glass was used on the top oven and could break at any time. This defective glass put my family at risk of injury and we are currently still at risk living with the potentially-dangerous top oven. Please investigate immeditately.

Kitchenaid customer service was no help. They told me that while some models were identified as having defective unsafe glass, my oven wasn’t on their list and so they would not inspect or replace it. They had no way for me to speak directly to a product safety team member or to report a product safety issue. This was simply “noted on my account.” I was told that some other team does data collection and maybe at some point in the future this model would be included on the list.

Our kitchen range can be triggered to turn on the gas inadvertently whenever anyone brushes by the front of it. Tonight we came home to a house with a strong gas smell and the knob to the back left burner was slightly turned on. Complaint re Kitchen Aid range

This safety complaint is regarding the Kitchen Aid range, model KSDG950ESS6, serial number RB4910649, a gas range with electric oven. When my wife is working at the stove, she sometimes bumps into a gas control knob for one of the burners. That usually results in sparking from the ignitor for that burner. Sometimes, the bump turns the knob to the point where gas flows from the burner, then the burner is ignited from the sparks. This seems to us extremely dangerous, possibly to the point of igniting her shirt. Luckily it hasnt happened yet, but were very worried that it could easily occur. The 9/16/2024 date listed below is only the most recent occurance.

The bottom oven stopped heating and when the repair guy pulled it out, one of the wires in the harness had burned through the coating and left a burn mark on the metal. No one can tell me why and how this happened. Whirpool(owner of Kitchaid) wants to repair instead of replacing. I’m afraid it will happen again with more consequences such as a real fire.

I used the self-clean feature on my oven on Saturday 8/20/22. I was using a KitchenAid built-in oven. After 1.5 hours in the self-clean mode, the interior glass shattered. There was still 2.5 hours left on the self clean cycle. The shattered glass was mostly contained in the oven and below the oven on the floor. Luckily there were no injuries but there could have been if there were people/pets/kids nearby when it shattered. I was using the “self-clean” feature as designed.

The product, in the report: Double Oven

The consumer’s wife turned on her double oven to self-clean for four hours however two hours into it the top oven’s broiler element caught fire and melted. The consumer turned off the unit. The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke scheduled for a Service Technician to inspect the oven. Upon inspection, the consumer was informed that nothing could be done as the unit was out of warranty. The consumer states that both ovens are used approximately twice per week, and that this was the third time that the self-cleaning feature had ever been used. The top oven is no longer usable. The consumer plans on keeping his double oven for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaid stove model KFID500ESS02, a free standing induction range

I May of 2019 we purchased a Kitchenaid induction range Model KFID500ESS02. The item i covered by a one year warranty from Kitchenaid. We also purchased an extended warranty for the product that would cover the appliance until May of 2022. Recently my wife noticed that the Blue porcelain coating on the oven interior was flaking off. We found a few flakes in a piece of of bakery she was making that we were able to remove. I did an internet search on potential problems with the porcelain coating on Kitchenaid stoves and found several references to others having the same issue. I contacted Kitcheaid and they said that the stove is out of warranty and I needed to contact the extended warranty company [REDACTED]. I have called [REDACTED] and was informed that this problem was cosmetic in nature and not subject to coverage. I am addressing this issue with you as it appears that many others have had issues with the porcelain finish and it is not a isolated occurrence. With several of the reports providing mention that the flakes would be subject to contamination of food it would seem that this defect has the potential to cause physical harm to a user. The company fails to address the defect with the consumer.

I have a kitchen aid built in oven and it is 6 years old. On June 20, I roasted some vegetables and a few of them fell on the bottom of the door. I let the oven cool down and picked the vegetables after a couple of hours. when I picked up the vegetables and I tried to wipe the part where the vegetables fell, that oven part was so sharp that it made a dee cut on my middle finger on right hand. The cut was so deep and the skin was hanging on the side. The bleeding was excessive. So my daughter took me to the emergency department at [REDACTED] Hospital. The doctor gave me three stitches since the bleeding was so bad and cut was very deep. I have called the whirlpool and filed the injury report with them.

We have a KitchenAid double oven where we turned on the self-cleaning control. It was the second time that we used that function. We Googled similar incidents and found that this had occurred many times in the past with other consumers.

The product, in the report: convection microwave/oven combo

This is a convection microwave/oven combo. When running the microwave on convection, it vents excess heat onto the thick, metal oven door handle. The door handle absorbs and retains this heat thus becomes hot enough to burn your hand. Also, when the oven is on self clean, it vents its heat down on to the lower cabinet. It could definitely damage the cabinet, but if the cabinet has plastic as part of its construction, it could possibly burn.

The product, in the report: 30 inch Kitchenaid dual-fuel Range with an electric oven and 5 burner gas cooktop. Model No. KSDB900ESS0.

My new Kitchenaid dual fuel Range, an electric oven with gas cooktop, malfunctioned on 3 occasions, resulting in a fire in my oven on one occasion and bread burned to a crisp on another occasion. On all 3 occasions, the oven was set on the normal baking setting, not Convection. The Range is Kitchenaid Model No. KSDB900ESS0.

I purchased the Range in mid 2016. During the summer, the unit tripped off at approximately 300 degrees while preheating and an error code appeared. A factory authorized Technician looked at the Range and indicated that he tripped the breaker and the unit worked fine. He speculated that a power outage may have been the cause, even though the unit attempted to heat up before the automatic shut down and error code.

Two additional malfunctions occurred in early January 2017. On one occasion, the oven was set to 400 degrees to reheat vegetables with puff pastry topping on the middle rack in [REDACTED]. I opened the oven after heating the serving for approximately 10 minutes and the entire dish was on FIRE with flames touching the roof of the oven. I closed the oven immediately but the smoke was so dense that both upstairs and downstairs smoke detectors were triggered. I promptly reopened the oven and placed a lid on the flaming food in order to trap the flames and smoke. I removed the Corningware from the oven after the oven cooled. We attempted to clean the Corningware, but permanent burn marks remain. The oven was set at only 180 degrees on the other occasion, in order to keep french toast warm while I cooked multiple batches on the gas cooktop. Each batch of french toast takes approximately 5 minutes to cook. When I opened the oven to insert the second batch of french toast the first batch was thoroughly charred, black on the top and sides, and smoking. Note that the first batch was in the oven only 5 minutes at a purported temperature of 180 degrees. I removed the charred french toast from the oven and immediately got an error code, either FGE1 or F6E1, referencing excessive temperature and advising that a Technician should be contacted. I contacted Whirlpool Customer Service, who advised me to trip the breaker to the Range until a Technician could look at the Range due to safety concerns. A factory authorized Technician was dispatched to check my oven on January 13, 2017. The Technician acknowledged that the oven had experienced excessive heat, based on white marbling on the black plastic cover protecting part of the circuit board and similar white marbling on plastic protecting wires to the gas cooktop control units on the front of the Range. The Technician called Whirlpool and then performed a series of tests of the oven temperature. The Technician indicated that the broiler elements appeared to be working but that the bottom elements repeatedly cut off unexpectedly. The Technician also noted that the actual oven temperature readings were inconsistent with the temperature setting on the Range. The Technician indicated that he needed to order and then replace both the upper and lower heating elements as well as the circuit board. I explained to the Kitchenaid Customer Service representative as well as a Kitchenaid safety specialist that I was uncomfortable with the oven in my home under the circumstances, especially the significant fire in my oven that was due to an oven malfunction. I also suggested that, from a safety standpoint, Whirlpool would best serve its customers by replacing my Range in order that Whirlpool could test the unit to determine the source of the defect. The representatives appeared unwilling to replace the unit in order to afford Whirlpool the opportunity to test my oven to determine the root cause of the multiple malfunctions that resulted, on one occasion, in a significant fire in my oven. Similarly, the factory authorized Technician indicated that I needed multiple events documented before Whirlpool would even consider replacing the Range. In summary, the Technician’s findings are consistent with my concern that excessive baking temperatures involved either operations in the self cleaning or broiler mode instead of the baking temperature set on my oven. Moreover, it would appear that Whirlpool either fully aware of the source of the defect that caused my oven to catch fire and is simply unwilling to replace or recall them or, alternatively, Whirlpool does not know the root cause of the defect but is nonetheless unwilling to ensure the safety of its customers by removing and testing a defective oven.

Glass continued to shoot out of the vent periodically for about another 45 minutes after the oven had been turned off.

(5/1/16 Approximately) The technician inspected the oven and advised the consumer that two fuses were blown out. The technician told the consumer that one of the fuses controls the fan which cools down the oven. When the technician pulled out the oven to conduct the inspection the consumer noticed that the cabinets surrounding the oven were scorched. The consumer states that the fuses were replaced. The consumer states that the repairs were conducted under the warranty.

The consumer indicated that he requested a replacement oven and he is communicating with the firm. The consumer does not feel safe using the oven. The consumer states that the firm has not agreed to provide a replacement.

The product, in the report: Kitchenaid Duel-fuel range. Range preheated to 450 degrees. Two minutes after a pizza on a pan was placed in oven, oven failed. The oven began to short out. Blue flashes were seen inside glass door. Sparks and smoke poured out of front bezel. The cooling fan continued to run blowing smoke into the kitchen until circuit breaker was manually tripped by myself. Per the repair technician sent out by Lowe’s extended warranty, the terminal block was completely melted along with all wiring feeding to the onboard computer. Repair technician was unable to power up to diagnose. He did test the heating elements in the oven, and all three tested okay. No fuses were blown which was a mystery. Issue most likely caused by on board computer fault.

Oven directly shorted out. Electrical flashes were seen inside oven. Cooling fan behind over pushed sparks and smoke out front bezel. Direct shorting caused lighting in house to flicker. Breaker had to be manually tripped at circuit panel.

Upon inspection, terminal block caught fire. All wiring from block continuing into oven is burnt/melted. No external wiring was damaged not house wiring. No internal fuses failed. No heating elements are burned out. I believe issue most likely caused by onboard computer fault.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid double range, dual fuel, model KDRS505XSS01.

Because of loose oven racks in a KitchenAid dual fuel range (model KDRS505XSS01) it was replaced, after quite a bit of effort and cajoling on my part and after paying for a service call and a $250 fee. I recently discovered that Whirlpool corporation which made the KitchenAid range has recalled [REDACTED] ranges for the same problem. It would seem that Whirlpool has been aware of this problem but still has not recalled other KitchenAir ranges. The defect caused the racks to dislodge when pulled out of the oven. Luckily my wife managed to partially catch the turkey as she slid the rack out, avoiding a serious burn and I was happy at the time that we got a replacement.

I purchased this appliance on 03/26/15 in new condition. All inner packaging was in place, books, registration card, etc. I sent my registration card in to Kitchenaid(Whirlpool) within the week. The first time I used the self cleaning option was in June. As we sat at breakfast in the kitchen about 45 minutes into the cleaning we heard a loud bang and looked over and there was shattered glass all over the kitchen. There were kids and pets in the kitchen. My niece ended up with glass in her foot. Luckily no serious injuries. I have owned many ovens and used the self cleaning options many times. I have never seen anything like this happen. Our NEW oven is completely inoperable. I have contacted Kitchenaid and because I don’t have a receipt they will not warranty the glass. They claim they don’t do anything with your registration cards. They show it registered to Sears in 2012 and said it may have been a floor model. I don’t see how glass exploding during a normal oven function is a warranty issue. This is definitely a manufacturing issue. The glass could not handle the heat plain and simple. What kind of glass are they using? I do know it was a discontinued model and although we received a discount we still spent over $1500. Now they want to sell us a part for $75 + shipping. I am not convinced this won’t happen again.

This is an issue with the cast iron grates above gas burners on a stove top. The heat from the burners over a 3 year period has caused the grate to sag, resulting in an unstable platform for cooking utensils. Extreme care must be used at all times to prevent the utensil from upsetting and spilling its contents onto the cook top or the user. This is a case of a poorly under-engineered product.

The consumer is filing a report on his unit and all units with the same heating element design. He is concerned that KitchenAid and [REDACTED] ovens spontaneously turn on when the heating element breaks. The consumer was advised by a technician that the heating element in the oven is always energized with voltage so if the heating element breaks the unit turns on unexpectedly.

On the evening of 8/01/14 (estimated) the consumer’s wife set the upper oven to cleaning mode. He states after 3 hours (a full cleaning mode cycle) the unit is supposed to shut off. However, the next morning the consumer noticed that the unit was “On” even though on the control panel indicated that it was “Off.”

The consumer states the unit would not shut off and he had to cut the circuit breaker off. When the consumer turned the circuit breaker back on the unit remained off.

The consumer states the next time he used the oven, the unit failed to turn off. The consumer states this occurred each time he used the unit.

A technician has examined the unit on 3 different occasions since the incident occurred. He does not recall the dates. The technician informed the consumer the unit had a broken heating element that caused the unit to spontaneously turn on. The technician informed the consumer that all KitchenAid ovens have the same heating element design that cause the ovens to spontaneously turn on when the heating element breaks. One technician stated that [REDACTED] has the same failure mode.

The consumer feels the units pose a burn and fire hazard to consumers.

We are moving and my wife decided to clean the oven for the people buying our old house. This was the first time the oven was cleaned utilizing the built-in high temperature cleaner. During the process the window of the microwave situated above the oven blew out scattering flying glass throughout the kitchen. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

My wife contacted the company and was told that they have no recall for this product. Because of the explosive nature of the defect we believe that this product is dangerous and should be thoroughly investigated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Product: KitchenAid wall oven, model # KEMS308SSS05, serial # D13598342, in-service date 6/21/12 (currently beyond the manufacturer’s 12-month limited warranty)

    Incident: Saturday, March 22, 2014 @ 12:17 PM (MST)

Location: Residence @ [REDACTED] in Mancos, Colorado

My KitchenAid wall oven was approximately 2 hours into its “self-cleaning” cycle when the door’s INNER glass exploded violently akin to a shotgun blast, spewing both beads and dagger-like chards of glass into my kitchen from beneath its closed and locked door. (and despite its OUTER door glass remaining intact!) One would logically assume that the door’s perimeter gasket would contain what’s inside the oven!

A violent glass explosion that’s contained is one issue, but the abrupt ejection of broken glass past a closed and locked oven door into the kitchen space is clearly a major safety concern in my opinion. I was seated approximately 15 feet from the appliance when the glass exploded, but was fortunately uninjured. The subject appliance was registered with KitchenAid when purchased and I have never received any recall notices or bulletins from them.

Why would an oven door glass suddenly “explode” for no apparent reason? Has there ever been similar incidents reported to your agency with KitchenAid wall ovens?

I have thorough photo documentation and video footage, both immediately following the event and when the self-cleaning cycle had ended and allowing me to open the oven door for a look. I have also preserved the oven door’s glass beads and chards as forensic evidence.

The product, in the report: double oven

I purchased a Kitchen Aid double oven less than 9 months ago and I just used the self clean option for the first time. I called KitchenAid just to have them walk me through it for the first time. It was simple. The self clean feature was supposed to run for 2 1/2 hours and after only 45 minutes I heard a loud explosion! Thankfully my kids were not in the kitchen but when I went running to see what happened I was shocked and terrified to see that the glass door had exploded and shards of glass were flying through my kitchen and with such force that they flew into other rooms in the house as well. I was naturally flipping out and trying to figure out how to stop this but couldn’t get near the oven for fear of being hit and cut by flying glass! My husband ran upstairs to the computer to see if there was information on that model to try and trip the fuse when he uncovered that there were multiple people who experienced this same dangerous expoding glass issue! I can’t understand how KitchenAid/Whirpool could allow the oven to continue to be sold and not recalled when this is a recurring problem. Can you imagine if my daughter who always sits at the kitchen island to do her homework was sitting there when this happened?!!! It never dawned on me that KitchenAid would not stand by their product and quickly come and get this unsafe oven out of my house. I truly thought they were going to feel awful and apologize and make good on their product. Instead, the safety department was almost bored with my phone call and just said, “Ok ma’am your glass broke so we will send you a new piece of glass! Can you imagine?!!!! I said absolutley not, how am I supposed to know that this oven is safe when it just exploded in my kitchen! I’m terrified! She said well ma’am we can send a technician out to deteremine if it is safe. The next day they sent a serviceman, (not a KitchenAid serviceman) out who came with a [vacuum cleaner] to clean up my kitchen! When I told him that I thought he was supposed to run some diagnostics and determine the damage this may have caused to my oven he told me that’s what they tell everyone this happens to! He said my only orders are to come here, clean it up and order you a new piece of glass! I am furious and so scared this will happen to another family who won’t be as lucky as I was that no one was in the vicintiy of the kitchen when this explosion occurred!

I have a Kitchenaid double Oven model KEB207KBL0. It was purchased September 2003. It malfunctioned Christmas Eve and would not shut off. In order to shut the oven off, we had to throw the breaker. In the meantime, the oven heated up continuously. Our oven has a protective locking mechanism when using extreme temperatures such as oven cleaning. The door never locked and when we opened the door, we were blasted by the heat pouring out of the oven. Our oven gave us an error that according to the internet is an overheating warning error (F3E2). We did report the incident to Kitchenaid who originally offered to send out a repairman and cover the cost of the damages however now they are saying the part that would fix the oven (new computer panel) is no longer available. Sears did send out a service repair technition who verified that the oven was malfunctioning and not safe.

The 2 casseroles were on the roll-out rack. When attempting to gently pull the roll-out shelf out to remove the casseroles, they slid towards the back of the rack and ultimately slid off the back of the rack and landed in the bottom of the oven. My pull on the rack was very gentle - as verified by the person in the kitchen with me - and should not have caused the casseroles to move with such force. The glass casseroles may have contributed to the movement but the roll-out rack has nothing on the back of the rack to prevent this from happening. Clips to hold the entire assembly in place might also help stabilize the roll-out rack. Sustained minor burns on my hand.

The consumer is not sure, but she said that the oven may have been in the “on” position for approximately 10 - 15 minutes, when the inner glass on the door shattered. The consumer said that the glass was shooting from the vent underneath the oven and pieces of it hit her and her dog

The consumer swept the floor and cleaned up all of the glass that she was able to. However, she stated that hours later, she could still hear and see pieces of glass still falling from the inner door of the lower oven.

The consumer stated that glass flew approximately 5’ to 6’ away from the stove. She even found small pieces of glass in an adjacent room.

The consumer said that she twisted her back when she tried to duck in order to avoid the flying glass. At this time, the consumer cannot say for sure that she is injured.

During the holidays, she may use the oven twice a week, but the rest of the year, the oven is rarely used.

About half way through the 2.5 hour cycle, the lower oven literally expolded. Apparently the inner tempered glass on the door exploded sending glass particlesflying across the kitchen even though the door remained in the self clean locked position and the outer glass panels remained in place. Fortunately, there was no one in the kitchen at the time so there were no injuries. I made inquiries to Kitchenaid/Whirlpool as to the possible cause and/or preventitive steps but did not receive a cogent answer.

The product, in the report: Wall mounted convection oven.

Product was a Kitchen Aid Wall Mounted Convection Oven Model No. KEBS107SSS04 (the “Unit”). The Unit is new and was professionally installed into a new construction home by the builder (William Lyon Homes). The Unit is approximately 2 to 3 months old. Approximately 1.5 hours into the the first time use of the Unit’s “self-cleaning cycle”, the interior glass plate on the oven door spontaneously shattered and forcibly expelled hot shattered glass shards from the Unit all over the kitchen.

The “sefl-cleanning cycle” was performed accordng to manufacturers instructions. A recent internet search revealed multiple consumer complaints regarding the same shattering of glass during “sefl-cleaning cycles” of new Kitchen Aid convection ovens.

The oven is unsafe and dangerous for a home with infant children. The shattered glass could have caused severe bodily injury to our 9 month old baby had the child been in the kitchen at the time of the Unit’s failure. This Unit is devective and highly dangerous.

The product, in the report: KitchenAid Superba, combination oven & microwave

The KitchenAid oven in our home is a built-in microwave and oven combination with a vent located at the bottom of the oven. The vent holes on the oven are at toddler eye level.  Our 19 month old toddler was playing with magnets on the refrigerator, which is located next to the oven, when she noticed the vent holes on the oven.  She proceeded to put her finger in one of the vent holes and when she tried pulling it out, it sliced her finger.  We took her to the emergency room where she received seven stitches.

We contacted KitchenAid requesting assistance.  The customer service representative indicated that they could not assist because blocking the vent would cause the oven to combust while in use.  We believe KitchenAid disregarded our concern.

We think that a guard on the vent would be an easy and appropriate safety measure to address our concern.

The product, in the report: Kitchen Aid Dual-Fuel Double-Oven Range

    KitchenAid Dual-Fuel Double-Oven Range, Model Number: kdrs505xss01

Yesterday, my husband walked into the kitchen and was overcome by the smell of natural gas. I had been in the kitchen a few minutes earlier and apparently brushed by the range knobs and inadvertently engaged one ever-so-slightly to where it allowed gas to escape, but not far enough that the lighting mechanism “clicked” that we would have been forewarned. This has happened on at least 5 separate occasions, but I have always smelled gas almost immediately and turned it off. I have notified KitchenAid on at least three occasions, but have been universally dismissed.

In my inexpert opinion, the stainless steel knobs are too heavy, which allows a minimal amount of pressure to press the knob past the catch mechanism.
