The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite dual fuel, 30” wide range and oven, white
I just finished making dinner on the stove and oven. I then placed a pie in the oven and seconds later a cracking, popping sound came from the appliance, the display panel went haywire and suddenly flames came from behind unit. I ran for the fire extinguisher around the corner but the flames went out. I set the fire extinguisher down and then the flames erupted again for a second or two and went out again. There was a horrible odor. I turned off the breaker for the oven/stove. The whole experience was extremely frightening for me and my 9 year old granddaughter.

The product, in the report: White Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel range
The oven was on and I had just changed a setting (set the timer or temperature) and a few moments later the stove started making a loud buzzing noise, then thick black smoke and then flames coming out from behind the stove up the back wall. I quickly turned off the stove, and the breaker also tripped. Upon inspection, the electrical controls must have started to arch and that was the buzzing sound. SUPER scary and I’m sure glad I was right there to see it happen or we could have had a serious fire. (No tile backslash, just a painted wall behind the stove).

The product, in the report: It is a Double-wall unit oven, black with stainless steel cosmetics, 30 to 32 inches glass dimensions.
While in the kitchen I noticed the handle on the upper oven on the double-wall door was loose. I then laid the handle gently on the oven because the left side was still attached. The handle was loose on the right side. I went back over to see what tool I could use to retighten the screw. While standing beside the upper wall oven door, the black glass on the front of the upper wall oven exploded. Not shattered! Exploded and then shattered. the black glass flew everywhere, at least 12’ to 15’ from the initial explosion. I was not noticeably injured, yet in shock.

The product, in the report: 30 inch Kenmore smooth top range white and black in color, Burners arranged two large in front and two small in back MOdel 790.96011407
I own a kenmore smooth top range model # 790.96011407 serial number VF72421831. The left front large burner was turned from 7 to 3 but did not reduce it’s heat instead it went to the highest heat it could. Then could not turn the burner off until I rotated it 360 degrees to off. Tried setting the correct temp again and did the exact same thing. Even after the cooktop cooled off the light that indicates a hot surface stayed on. I had to turn the breaker off for it to go off.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Microwave/Wall Oven Combination
My wife and I baked dinner in our Kenmore Microwave/Wall Oven Combination, model #790.48853900. Once dinner was done my wife turned off the oven, it appeared that the oven was off (all “bake” lights were off, the clock was displayed, etc.) but the oven continued to heat up. The oven continued to heat up and we were unable to turn the oven off until we eventually tripped the breaker. I contacted Sears with my complaint and this is a known problem! How in the world is an oven that continually heats up, despite displaying that it is “off” AND without any way to shut it off besides tripping the house breaker, not a colossal fire hazard? This is outrageous, particularly since Sears knows about the problem and there have been recalls on similar Sears models that have the same issue!

The product, in the report: Kenmore Model 911.40169793 Serial # 1Z5 85253Q Wall mount oven
I had a dish in oven cooking at 425 degrees as I do at least weekly when it sounded like a shotgun went off in my ear. The whole glass outer surface of my wall oven had exploded into hundreds of pieces on the floor and much of it was popping and jumping around on the floor after it exploded for about 10 minutes. The handle was lying in the midst of the glass. The hot glass on the inside of the over door was fine as was the glass dish I was baking the meat in. All things inside were fine and unharmed. My floor is pitted and I keep finding glass in three rooms of my house it exploded so far out. Had anyone been standing in front of it they would have been seriously hurt. It was not all peeble sized and rounded as they claim. Some of it was shards.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite oven- replacement item number on Sear Parts Direct #318299534
Our Kenmore Elite oven glass door exploded shortly after use. This explosion shot hot tempered glass particles across the kitchen floor creating cuts and glass chard impalements. Our 2 year old daughter, thankfully, was sitting in her high chair and was not hurt.
Upon trying to find a replacement Sears Parts Direct does not have one available and proceeded to charge my credit card and place it on backorder with an unknown shipping date. Repeated calls to the company only put me on hold for large amounts of time.

The product, in the report: Kenmore dual fuel range, slide-in model.white
I was using the oven on my Kenmore range (model 790.45712). I had it set to 350F but started to smell the squash I was cooking shortly after putting in the oven. I checked the oven and it was extremely hot and the squash was starting to burn. I tried to turn off the oven but the controls did not work. I quickly flipped off the circuit breaker. Once the oven cooled I flipped the circuit breaker on, the lower element in the oven immediately starting heating up without turning on the oven. This is extremely dangerous! I was fortunate to be nearby as I think my oven would have started on fire.

The product, in the report: Dual Fuel Range
When we were baking, we noticed to oven light wasn’t turning off when the door was closed. We ignored it, finished cooking, and went to bed. My daughter went down later to get a snack and noticed a burning smell. She opened the oven and found it still hot, even though it was turned off. When she closed the door, sparks and embers flew out. She had to extinguish them around the kitchen. I woke my husband, so that he could pull it out and unplug it. We then found soot marks on the cabinetry, and the button and wires melted.

The product, in the report: Double oven range
Caller reported that while the double oven range was in use , her daughter opened the door to base the turkey and the oven rack fell down spilling grease from the container everywhere. Fortunately no one was hurt. She stated that the oven racks are fitted until the oven is heated which seems as if the oven expands causing the racks to fall.
The manufacturer was contacted and they advised that the unit was no longer under warranty.
Caller is concerned that these oven racks are a safety hazard and should be recalled.
This was not the first time the racks fell - if we had not seen it fall down it could have created a dangerous fire.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Microwave/Wall Oven Combination Model 790.4890
The oven walls have warped with normal use and the oven rack will no longer fit in the slots - it often falls while cooking, and has dropped a few times when we leave anything heavier than a cookie sheet on it. This has been happening for months and just gotten worse. I see many other people with the same oven having the same issues - it seems to be defective and easily causes burns when you don’t expect it.

The product, in the report: dual fuel range
She is reporting her range for posing a fire hazard. She states that the oven heats to higher temperature by itself.
She first noticed an issue last year Thanksgiving. She noticed an error code while she was using it and remembers the oven being extremely hot.
On May 5, 2018 she put cookies in the oven and set the temperature to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Approximately 5 minutes later, she smelled a burn odor and noticed the cookies were burned. She states that since then the oven heats to higher temperatures each time she uses it. She stopped using the oven on September 9.
She also indicated that the bigger burner takes a few minutes to ignite and due to that she has stopped using it.
She contacted the firm and reported the issue. She was told that the unit was not under warranty and they could not assist her.
She had a third party technician replace the thermostat but it did not correct the issue and the tech told her they were unable to troubleshoot the problem. The tech suggested she contact the firm for assistance.

I have a kenmore elite microwave oven combo model 790.4890.300 which we purchased in 2012. It has had a magnitude of problems but lately the oven racks are falling down when something is placed on them or they are being pulled out while something is on them. It is extremely dangerous and sears does not take responsibility. I can see many people complaining about this issue online over many years.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Stove model 790.79383400
We were using our Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Oven to bake and cook food on burners when flames lept from the back of the unit. There was a puff of black and acrid smoke that smelled like an electrical fire. The flames went out quickly but the smell lingered and the electrical oven was off and the display showed nonsense. We had a tile backsplash and clean cooking area, so nothing ignited, but it could have spread quickly if the residual grease in the range hood would have caught fire. We were left with singed eyebrows and choking on the bitter fumes.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite single wall oven Model 790-48083000
After cooking Christmas roast, ran the self cleaning feature of Kenmore Elite wall oven. About one hour into cycle, there was loud noise in kitchen, and discovered glass door on the oven had shattered. There was no way to stop the oven cycle, as it was locked for the self clean cycle that runs for 3 hours. In addition to being subjected to the shattered glass, the oven put off awful fumes into the kitchen that my kitchen exhaust could not handle effectively.
The glass and fumes poses a safety issue for anyone using this product.
In my 40 plus years in the kitchen, have never seen anything like this. Reading online, it sounds like others who own this model have had same issue. There must be a defect causing this. The manufacturer stance is that the consumer is at fault if this issue occurs after one year of purchase. My oven is 21/2 years old.

The product, in the report: Built in wall oven
The oven was used to bake cookies the night before. In the morning, I noticed that the handle was hanging down on one side. It looked like it just needed to be screwed back in (I figured the screw must have become loose). I pushed the door forward to get a look at what type of screwdriver I would need and as I did that, the glass shattered all over the kitchen floor! We have an appliance warranty through Sears. They said it was covered and scheduled a technician to come out after the weekend. When they came out, they said it wasn’t covered but still charged us the service call fee of $75.

Top oven was off, bottom oven was being used. My wife opened the fridge a few feet away and the glass on the top oven shattered. It is the inner layer of glass, it did not explode everywhere but when we open the top door it spills out of the door, and when we opened the bottom door glass fell everywhere. A small amount of glass somehow fell out when it broke and my 1 year old almost stepped on some of it.

The product, in the report: Double-Oven Range
The consumer indicates that the larger oven of his double-oven range has shelves that no longer fit and fall off. The consumer believes the reason to be expansion of the metal inside the firebox.
08/12/2017 - The consumer had casseroles in the three shelves inside his oven. Approximately an hour later, the first two shelves collapsed on top of the bottom and third shelf. The consumer took the casseroles and the shelves out of the oven however they no longer fit.
08/14/2017 - The consumer contacted the retailer (Case Number: [REDACTED]) and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him that the double-oven range is not warrantied any longer so they could schedule a Service Technician to inspect the unit if the consumer would be willing to pay out of pocket for the visit, labor, and parts.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him that the unit was not recalled so the best they could do was provide a ten percent off a new oven.
The consumer states that the oven in question was used three to four times weekly.
The consumer plans on keeping his double-oven range for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

Noted that the broiler element was bright red, the oven was extremely hot and the food inside was beginning to blacken. Oven controls would not respond when attempting to turn the oven off. Had to open the supply breaker to turn the oven off. Waited several minutes and then reclosed the supply breaker. The display returned to normal. Reset the oven to BAKE at 400°F. After 5 minutes, error code F10 ERR came back in and the broiler element was bright red again. The controls again failed to respond and had to open the supply breaker to turn the oven off. Had this happened with nobody home, a fire would have occurred.

We contacted Sears customer service and they finally connected me to their 3rd party insurance company that took the report and sent a technician to my home on December 1, 2016 to take pictures of the damage. I did incur small cuts to my hand from the shattered glass. The oven had not been used at all in several days prior to the incident.

We have a Kenmore double oven purchased in 2012. Model #790 48879901, Serial #NF23519819. On 9/24/16, the bottom glass door on our oven exploded. I had just heated a pizza at 375 degrees, then about 10 minutes later we heard the explosion. Glass flew all around the surrounding rooms to our kitchen, and also ricocheted off the cabinets and landed in the dining room behind the kitchen. The sound of the explosion was incredible! No one was in the kitchen thankfully. I have contacted both Sears and Kenmore and both are no help since the oven is out of warranty. It is unimaginable what could have happened if one of my 3 children were standing in front of it when it exploded. Please help us in any way you can. I’m frightened to have it in my house with no way of knowing if the other door will suddenly explode. No appliance should explode in someone’s home.

The product, in the report: KENMORE/Frigidaire/Electrolux wall oven door model #790.48803100. It has a shiny silver finish on the outer panels and handle with a transparent black outer glass door.
Kenmore/Frigidaire/Electrolux wall oven door model #790.48803100. We have had a pane of glass on the wall oven COMPLETELY shatter. When it happened, it was during cooking of normal routine. A loud pop and there was glass shattered all over the floor while the oven was still going. There is obviously some kind of structural weakness within these glass panes of this specific line of oven doors. This is a SERIOUS hazard as anyone could have been standing in front of the oven when it burst. There have been multiple reports by other consumers (example: please check [REDACTED] in your files) with the same incident occurring and the similar refusal of SEARS/KENMORE/FRIGIDAIRE/ELECTROLUX to do anything about it besides try to sell everyone an extra warranty and overcharge to fix the part. This is outrageous and a serious issue which these companies are ignoring. I have taken pictures of the oven door with shattered glass if needed. I urge you, our government entity, to help myself as well as many others with this ongoing issue.

I pressed the bake button on the panel when all of a sudden the panel start making cracking sounds and all the lights started flicking on and off immediately followed by black smoke and flames shooting out the back vents hitting the microwave above. I grabbed my fire extinguisher and sprayed the back of the stove. I had my wife run to the garage to shut off the breaker for the stove. With the fire out you could still hear the sizzling wires inside and smell electrical burning for hours. I unplugged everything from the range and just let it sit. I called the Sears repair line (1-800-4-MY-HOME and got to talking with a customer service rep who showed no concern for the fact that this range almost burnt my house down. She was more concerned with selling me a broken appliance warranty. I made an appointment to have a service tech come out anyhow. I then emailed Kenmore with exact details of what happened and have not heard a word from them.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Dual Fuel Slide in Stove, Model 79041093, and Kenmore Elite [REDACTED].
I purchased a new Kenmore kitchen appliance set in 2012 (refrigerator, dishwasher, dual fuel stove, and dishwasher). The design and handles were matching so it appeared like it was a set. The duel fuel gas slide in stove, Model 790-41093, has had a couple of problems. 1) It is exactly like Model [REDACTED] , and has very sharp metal edges. Although we have not been injured, you have to be very careful cooking and cleaning on the product. 2) If the burner plates on the 85 BTU main burner are not seated properly, flames can shoot out in one direction in heights of 6”-8” causing a concentrated burst of flames to occur. My family has experience multiple burns and damage to our kitchen due to this.
Secondly, the microhood, Kenmore Elite [REDACTED], handle has cut my family with some pretty lengthy lacerations. The plastic metal the wraps around the handle separates and causes a sharp edge. My door assembly was replaced under warrantly once due to this problem but the second replacement door had the same malfunction. It is now wrapped in a commercial tape that is resistant to the heat so we no longer cut ourselves. Sears did reimburse us for $500 for the microhood however the product was never recalled. This product is still being sold and I strongly feel LG should replace the defective handle material to one that does not warp or split. When I phoned LG about the injury, they said the injuries were not severe enough to file a claim.
Your website would not allow me to upload correspondence and photos of the incidents.

The product, in the report: Black Kenmore Wall Oven/Microwave Combo Model # 790 488 59 900 Purchased 10/27/12
On Sunday, May 3, 2015 the outer glass on my oven door on a 2 year old Kenmore Oven Microwave Combo Wall Unit exploded sending glass fragments approximately 10 feet in all directions. My daughter was attempting to remove something from the oven when pulling on the handle to open the door, the handle became detached and the oven glass exploded. Glass flew in all directions, luckily no one was seriously injured. I followed up with Sears appliance repair, they state that their is no recall, and my oven is not under warranty so they will not cover the cost of repairs. My issue is than in investigating this online there are many complaints about this same thing happening to many people, I am now apprehensive about replacing this with the same glass door that just exploded in fear that it will happen again, and I might not be as fortunate and someone might be seriously injured. My original oven/microwave unit was replaced because the microwave went out after 24 years, so we decided to replace the entire unit, that oven unit was still in good shape, no issues at all but because it was a combo, we could not replace one without the other. This oven that was installed has not had much use, I would classify it as having less than normal wear, and to have this happen to a large appliance that is quite costly is ridiculous. And to replace it with the same product knowing how unsafe it make me even more uncomfortable. The explosion that took place was quite fierce, the sound was that of a gun shot, the pieces of glass were projected in the air, we are still finding slivers of glass in the dining room which is adjacent to the kitchen even after cleaning multiple times.

The product, in the report: A Kenmore Wall Oven Model#79047789400
I had a Kenmore Oven door shatter on the same oven on 2 occasions. I have contacted Sears and they do not acknowledge any problems with these glass doors. They literally explode with violent force. On the first occasion the stove was not in use and we heard a loud bang. Upon checking we found the door had shattered. This was in June of 2014. I ordered a replacement glass and had it installed 1 week later. In January of 2015 the same door shattered again. Again the oven was not on and had not been in use that day. I notified Sears again and asked if they had any door options because I do not want to replace this glass door again. They did not acknowledge any problem and no solution.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Digital Double Oven
The consumer would like to file a report against her unit because she feels it poses a safety and fire hazard.
10/20/2014 The consumer’s top oven burnt her food. Initially, she set the oven to 170 degrees Fahrenheit for ten minutes. For the past three to four days, the consumer reports that no matter what temperature she sets the oven to, within five minutes of turning it on, its temperature will automatically increase to 550 degrees Fahrenheit. The overheating of her oven prompts the fan to turn on automatically. She was able to become aware of the overheating problem with her unit because she hears the fan running. Since she has been there to turn the oven off, she has not burnt her food though she reports that indeed it has started turning black. Upper coils are red hot as if oven was set to broil.
The consumer uses the top portion of her double oven on a daily basis, while the bottom portion approximately ten times a month.
10/21/2014 The consumer contacted both retailer and manufacturer. Representatives at both firms informed her that since there was no recall including the model and serial belonging to her unit, there was nothing they could do to assist her.
The consumer reports that other than a burnt area above the top oven where the smoke comes out, her unit looks brand new. The consumer states that the bottom oven has never given her problems. She is very careful handling the bottom oven and so does not have injuries of any type to report.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Microwave/Wall Oven Combination
I have a Kenmore Elite Microwave/Wall Oven Combination. The wall oven has expanded to the point that the racks will not stay in place and fall to the bottom of the oven if anything heavier than a cookie sheet is placed on the racks and the racks or container are moved. On several occasions, the rack has fallen with a hot casserole on it resulting in my arms bring burned by scalding liquid. I’ve also fallen onto the hot, open oven door when trying to remove a hot casserole because the casserole falls while I’m holding it.
This is a well documented problem. Please refer to report number 20140619-25516-2147443555. The defective, expanded wall cavity creates a dangerous situation and Sears, or the manufacturer Frigidaire, should be required to fix this defect.

We turned off the gas and electric to the stove and the fire burned itself out.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite range/double oven
I have a Kenmore Elite double oven/range. The oven wall on the bottom oven has been known to expand so that the racks no longer fit, and fall during cooking. The defect effects the oven primarily where the middle racks slide in, and in my own case, only the lowest rung will hold a rack, and only about 50% of the time. Due to the low nature of this, I have nearly fallen into my oven 3 times, and have burned my hand once. When attempting to roast a turkey in the oven, the rack fell out several times, causing a grease fire hazard.
This is a very dangerous situation, and the oven walls should be recalled and replaced by Sears.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range
I own a Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range. One oven rack began falling a few years ago and now all the racks fall even with very little weight on them. I assumed this was from the racks wearing out and I did a web search looking for replacement racks. I came across this from the Sears web-site. https://www.sears.com/community/questions/the-oven-racks-in-kenmore-elite-model-79031043302-fall-down-and-have-caused-burns/#comment-42634
Clearly this is an oven design flaw that Sears is aware of. Despite this potentially dangerous flaw they now only have not recalled these ovens, but the take no responsibility for helping consumers remedy this issue. I guess they are satisfied waiting for someone to sustain burns and contacting their lawyer.

The product, in the report: 7800 Kenmore Elite white on white double oven free standing
I purchased a Kenmore Elite 7800 double oven in 2009. The control panel goes out when you boil liquid on the back two burners. The control panel overheats and turns off. When the control panel goes out the ovens quit working you could be in the middle of cooking and it will go off. You have to wait until it cools off to get the control panel to work again. Sometimes the control panel turns on the oven after it over heats. You just never know. I looked up this problem on line and it seems that sears has corrected this design flaw. That’s what there repair men call it. But they do not want to give the poor people that bought the older version in 2008 or 2009.

On Saturday January 18th around 5:30 in the evening- I opened my oven door. The oven was NOT on. It was cold. I’d used it just fine the previous evening. When I got the door approximately 2-3 inches open, the glass in the door exploded. I do not make that statement lightly- I cleaned up glass from my entire galley kitchen, my front dining room, my laundry room AND my living room. Luckily my pets were outside, I was wearing full length pants, and my face was not near the oven. My [REDACTED] floor does have some damage.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 790 Series Oven/Microwave Combo
I have twice, in an approximately two-year period, had a the same disturbing incident many others here have described. Twice, the entire glass front of the oven surface forcefully shattered all over the kitchen floor and adjacent room.
When the first incident occurred, the company promptly replaced the glass front, and assured us that this was an isolated incident. When the second incident occurred, the representative reported that someone would come to our home to replace the glass, but that we were “twenty days out of warranty.” Any expense would be ours.
It is clear to me, a non-engineer, that the nature of the design is hugely flawed and very dangerous. Others of my friends have Kenmore ovens. While their handles meet a secure oven metal piece, our handle meets glass front surfacing. A heating temperature of as little as 350 degrees resulted in this near tragedy. I would not dare to try the self cleaning feature.
While I have always been satisfied with Kenmore products, THIS OVEN IS A RISK TO YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR COMPANION ANIMALS. IT MUST BE RECALLED.

Hurt, no treatment Made Dec 2, 2013, sent to the company Dec 11, 2013, published by CPSC Dec 26, 2013
The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Stainless Steel Double Oven
Our 6 yr old (purchased on 11/25/06 but not delivered until 04/18/07) Kenmore Elite Double Oven caught on fire from the outside, underneath the oven inside the cabinet, on Thanksgiving Day!
On November 28, 2013, we hosted 18 family members at our home for Thanksgiving dinner. I cooked the turkey in the bottom oven for 5 hrs at 325*, then turned the oven down to 200* so we could keep casseroles warm and I turned the top oven on 350*. About 30 minutes after the oven was at 200*, the vents on both ovens started to blow out a little bit of smoke. I opened up both ovens and there was no smoke, but I was razzed by my family because there were a few crumbs of a frozen pizza on the bottom of the top oven and they thought that it must be burning, because I didn’t remove those crumbs prior to turning on the top oven. About 10 minutes passed and the smoke was a little more prominent, so I turned off both ovens and my husband went downstairs and flipped the circuit breaker to the oven, off.
We sat down to eat our Thanksgiving dinner when I looked into the kitchen from the dining room and I saw that the room as very smoky. I jumped up and a ton of smoke was coming out of both oven vents. I once again opened both oven doors and there wasn’t any smoke inside the ovens. Our daughter felt the cabinet on the side of the oven as well as the living room wall on the back side of the oven and she told us that the wall and cabinet were both warm. I felt them both just to confirm this and I then called 911 and requested the Fire Department. My husband ran and got a screw driver and proceeded to remove the screws of the oven from the cabinet walls and in the process, he cut his hand and scratched the cabinet walls on the outside in a few places. Once the screws and the hard plastic strip were removed, my husband and my cousin grabbed pot holders so they could slide out the oven from the cabinet. We placed two of my kitchen floor mats on the floor so they could place the oven on them, so it would not burn the hardwood floors.
Now, the smoke was billowing out of the cabinet and we could see a burned square on the 3/4” piece of plywood that the oven was sitting on was black, smoldering and it had about a 6” hole that burned straight through it, into the drawer below the oven. To drawer contained a glass baking dish, roasting pan and a ton of plastic/felt backed tailgating tablecloths, that were now smoldering. My husband pried up the burning 3/4” piece of plywood and ran it downstairs along with the burning table cloths and soaked them with the hose. We then removed all of our food from the kitchen and placed it on the kitchen and dining room tables. By this time, the 3 fire trucks and ambulance arrived and the firemen entered our home. The firemen and Fire Chief tilted the oven and took out (unplugged) the heating element from the bottom oven and the stainless steel plate was also burnt looking, as well as the piece of white insulation between this plate and the ceramic element. We were then told that the Fire Marshall will be in touch with us to come over and determine the probable cause of the fire.
The firemen all left and my 18 family members had to then put on their coats because we had to open all doors and windows to allow the smoke to escape, and it was very cold outside. All of our Thanksgiving dinner food was cold by then so it was not a very pleasant Thanksgiving to remember, especially since this was the first time we hosted Thanksgiving at our home for my family.
Even two days later, when we hosted an already scheduled Carolina/Clemson Party at our home for 62 people, the smoke smell was still in the house. A lot of our guests decided to stay outside and watch the game on the outdoor TVs that we also had set up. Once again, our guests had to improvise, due to the smoke smell.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Electric Wall Oven Model# 790.48083000
Kenmore Elite 30” wall oven model# 790.48083000 front glass exploded/shattered for no apparent reason.
During normal use, after removing a hot dish from the oven and gently closing the door the front glass of the door shattered violently with a lout “pop” sending hundreds of small sharp and hot pieces of glass all over the person holding the door and the kitchen floor.
The potential for injury was very high. Fortunately long clothes prevented the flying glass from causing serious injury.
The oven has only been in use for 3 months at the time of the incident.
To add insult to injury -- upon contacting Kenmore/Sears they have agreed to replace the glass under warranty but surprisingly have refused to treat this as an emergency repair leaving us in a hazardous situation with sharp glass pebbles continuously falling from the wreckage of the oven to the kitchen floor where my children could step on them and injure their feet while they ship a replacement part using standard 3-day delivery from Georgia.
With much faster shipping options available, the decision to put my family members in further risk of injury is a poor and negligent decision. There is no reasonable justification to delaying the resolution of a safety concern putting a customer in immediate risk of physical injury.
I can provide pictures of the aftermath of the incident if needed.

The product, in the report: black Kenmore wall oven, 24 inch, I believe.
Kenmore Wall Oven Model 790.40459802. Last night the oven window exploded, throwing shards of glass as much as 20 feet. It happened just after the handle came off on one side, and then my wife opened the oven a little. Fortunately the glass flew downward and she was able to jump out of the way. But if she had been in a little different position she would be in the hospital now. Also fortunate that our curious 4 year old grandson was not watching the oven as he often does. After this happened the floor was filled with glass and there was no more in the oven window.
We had been doing nothing unusual, just using the oven to heat some food. The window has never been struck with anything.
We called Sears and got nowhere. We bought the oven in October 2011 and it is out of warranty. But this is obviously a product safety issue. The ovens should be recalled.
A quick search on the Internet came up with 177 similar complaints about they oven.
How can Sears be so blasé?
Please recall this item before people get seriously injured.

The product, in the report: dual fuel range (gas range and electric oven)
(8/25/2013) The oven was on the “broil” setting and was in use for approximately 12 minutes. The consumer and his wife noticed snapping and crackling sound from the rear of the unit. The noise lasted for approximately 6 seconds. The wife thought that the tea kettle was on and had run out of water. Approximately 6 seconds later, smoke emitted from the top rear of the unit and the almost immediately after the smoke, the consumers saw flames emitting from it. The flames were nearly half the width of the stove.
The consumer and his wife quickly ran down stairs and tripped the breaker. Once the consumer went back up stairs, the flames had extinguished. The consumer noted that they went out within 60 seconds of him noticing them.
(8/26/13) The consumer called who he thought was the manufacturer, but it turned out to be Electrolux. He was referred to Sears from that point. He was then referred to Sear’s recall Department (Tel: 800-905-9505). When the consumer called that department, the rep. answered and indicated that they were A & E Service Company. However, there computers were down and the consumer was advised to call back in an hour.
The consumer said that his model number was similar to the CAP# 09-333, but it was not included.
The consumer has never had the range/oven serviced and has not had any problems since he moved into the home. The range/oven was already in the home when he moved in.

The product, in the report: Kenmore 30” Dual Fuel Range, Model: 79114
This morning while preheating my Kenmore oven to bake, the heating element caught on fire. Sparks were flying in the oven as a bright light came from the heating element. I immediately turned off the oven, but the burning continued to run through the heating element. We then, had to turn the oven off from the circuit breaker which allowed the fire to stop traveling further through the element, but it continued to burn in that spot for quite a while. This is a major fire hazard!!! If I had used the oven timer for the oven to come on while I was not at home, the oven would have caught on fire and then, my kitchen and possibly the rest of my house. I have read many complaints online from other consumers with this same issue, yet no recalls have been made. I plan to report this issue to CPSC as well as Consumer Reports. Kenmore products have been a trust worthy name in the past, but I no longer think this is true. Please tell me how I can go about receiving a refund, since the current oven I have can not be trusted. The product, in the report: Wall Oven
The consumer says she turned the oven on to preheat. As soon as she turned it on, sparks started flying from the start screen panel.
It was enough sparking that she had to back away. It then shot up a ball of fire from behind the stove. That caused fire damage to her wooden cabinets. This was followed by a large boom and it shut itself off.
An insurance adjustor came out to her home who said the control panel is completely fried.
The consumer called several numbers for the retailer/manufacturer but ended up getting hung up on. The company refused to send out a technician unless she purchases a service plan. She had no issues with the unit prior to this incident.
The consumer has a model number similar to the ones listed in Release # 09-333, her model however is not an exact match.

The product, in the report: Dual Range / Gas & Electric
The consumer stated that the while she was using the electric oven was getting progressively hotter at 175 degrees, she heard a beeping noise, she attempted to turn it off but it would not turn off, she had to use the circuit breaker to switch off the unit. The oven also displayed an error code of F11.
The manufacturer was contacted 3 weeks ago, a technician was sent out and the electronic control was replaced.
The consumer feels that this oven is a fire hazard which could have caused a house fire if no one was present. She’s home unless she uses the slow cooker feature.
UPDATE: Contacted mfr approx. 1/13/13 and he was extremely rude, discourteous and unconcerned. He offered no help or information but did offer me a $100 off list price of a new stove. Contacted my retail Sears store, was told to use “Google” whereby I found a telephone number for a technician who told me that F11 error was a “runaway oven”- I was advised to purchase and install an electronic control unit which I did- my major concern is that there is no safety feature to shut off stove thereby creating a major fire hazard when this F11 error happens. In my opinion, it is an enormous manufacturing defect!!

I am disappointed in Kenmore as to both their product quality and customer service follow up. I have a built in wall oven model 790.47783403 in which the oven racks collapse down to the bottom of the oven, hot pans with boiling liquids and all. This happens repreatedly. I called all the recommended numbers for help and got nowhere. The racks are simply too narrow for the width of the oven. This has created a dangerous situation for all concerned, as we have small gandchildren. I’m sure there are other ovens out there with the same issue and even saw prior reports with the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Caller’s wife was baking biscuits Sunday morning, May27th, 2012 when she smelled an odor that she identified as an odd smell. She went into the bedroom and made that comment to her husband and then returned to the kitchen where she found the stove on fire.
Fire was coming out of the upper back portion of the stove which is a gas top/electric oven range. Caller immediately used the kitchen fire extinguisher to put the fire out which included flames 5 to 6 inches high.
He called retailer May 27th, 2012 but since it was Memorial Day Weekend it took a couple of days for a service tech to be sent. The service tech said that the range would require an entirely new wiring harness and that there was nothing he could do for them other than offer a $100 discount if they ordered new stove immediately while he was there.
Callers initially ordered but then canceled.
Callers purchased new range of a different model from a different manufacturer.
Caller took the range apart and discovered that there is a terminal block, the internal components hook to this terminal block. Caller discovered that where the the internal components were supposed to be attached, it caused arching which caused it to catch fire.
They still have the wiring harness from the original range that caught fire and would request that the manufacturer reimburse them or provide voucher toward new range.

Kenmore Oven door shattered. Last night as we were preparing dinner, my husband checked the food, and as he closed the door, the glass panel exploded into a million pieces. Shards of glass flew up to ten feet across the kitchen, one of which struck my mother in the face (about an inch from her eye!). Fortunately, no one was injured, although we we all badly shaken. It’s a blessing that our children were not in the kitchen at the time, and that our friends toddler had just left. The oven was on at 300 degrees at the time. We treat our appliances gently, and do not drop things or slam the doors. The range is a dual fuel Kenmore Elite Model C970 441883. Serial number is 1939090. It was delivered in Sept 2010 but was not installed until January 2010. However, since it is past the one year warrany period, we have been advised that the repair will not be covered under warrany. I do not feel that this is a warranty issue. This is a SAFETY issue. It doesn’t matter how old a stove is - the door should not spontaneously explode into a million pieces! It is lucky that one of the shards of class did not lodge in my mothers eye or injure one of my children. I think this problem needs to be addressed soon to spare other families the horror of a potential tragedy.

It started an electrical fire! Our circuit turned off, we unplugged the range, and made sure that breaker was switched off. This was a very serious problem. We did call the Sears hotline and they wanted to schedule an appointment and the parts to fix the problem up front. The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range Model# 790.79834400 was purchased in December 2004. It has always worked well and never gave any problems until tonight.
Our Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range Model# 790.79834400 was purchased in December 2004. It has always worked well and never gave any problems until tonight.
Tonight my wife was using the oven at 425 degrees, baking some pizza bread. The oven had been on about 35 to 45 minutes when we heard an “arcing or sparking” sound coming from the kitchen. My son said he saw flashing occuring from somewhere near the display, at the top of the unit. This may have come from behind the unit, a vent is immediately below the top. It appears that there is a small amount “electric smoke” residue on the top.
The breaker was tripped. I unplugged the range and turned off the gas. After doing a little investigation on the internet, it appears that this is a problem that has occurred with quite a few Kenmore/Frigidaire Dual Fuel ranges as well as other types.
I don’t know if you can provide any feedback, but I’d like to know if there are any proceedings for this problem.
I talked to a Sears hotline guy on the 800 number and got a person who confirmed my information and was intending to send out a service man. I declined to have one come out until I find out more information.
It appears that some people have had luck getting their units replaced with a newer or different model. I’m not sure that I want this one repaired with what I’ve read about other incidents.
Any information or suggestions you can provide may be helpful.

The product, in the report: gas cook top/ electric oven
While baking in the oven at 350 degrees for 15 minutes then the setting was changed to 400 for an additional 15 minutes when she heard loud pop noise.
When she got closer to the oven she saw flames coming from the back of the control panel they lonely lasted two seconds and the fire went out by themselves.
The oven was then powered in the off position and her husband pulled the range from the wall outlet and they noticed that all power was lost to the control panel (which is an all touch electric control panel) and when they removed the control panel the wires inside were blackened and melted.

The consumer is considering get the appliance repaired but has not yet made any repair appointments. She has not used the range since the failure occurred she contacted her local gas company and they shut the gas off to the range. The range is currently in the unplug position.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range Model 790.7938
The control circuit board of our Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range model 790.7938 caught fire. After pressing Start to pre-heat the oven, I heard a cracking sound and a wall of flames shot out from behind the control panel followed by black smoke. All controls turned on, the oven door locked itself shut, and the self cleaning mechanism began heaating the oven. I was home alone when the incident happened, so I had to pull the oven out from underneath the wooden cupboards, run out to the garage, pull a refrigerator away from the wall to find the breaker box and kill the power.
