The product, in the report: JennAir Dual Fuel Updraft Slide in range
I saw that 174,000 [REDACTED] gas ranges have been recalled for the oven’s bake burner may experience delayed ignition. I purchased a Jenn Air gas range on 4/5/25 and the main burner that we use has a delayed ignition also which results in a sudden burst of flame. I called for service on this concern and was told it was fine. They didn’t do anything about it.

The product, in the report: JENN AIR 36” NOIR GAS/CONVECTION DUAL FUEL RANGE - MODEL #JDRP436HM
Purchased Jenn Air Noir Gas Range in June 2021. It was delivered in October 2021. The knobs appeared to be metal, however, the stem that attaches the knob to the stove is plastic. The stem extending from the range is metal. As the range stem is steel, it gets very hot while using the stove causing the plastic knob stem to splay/strip/melt due to heat. I contacted ABT while the range was under warranty and new knobs were sent. However, the new knobs also had plastic stems which subsequently melted and splayed causing the same issue. Recently, my 17-year-old niece used the stove, when she finished she turned to the knob to the “OFF” position. Unbeknownst to her the stove was still on as the plastic knob stem had melted and was stripped. While it appeared that the knob was turned to the “OFF” - it was still on. I have spent hours on the phone. I contacted the JennAir safety department and I was sent one replacement knob. To-date, I have replaced 5 knobs.
A technician from Diamond Factory Service was sent out by the JennAir Safety Team and I was informed that JennAir had been notified of this safety issue and that Product Managers have been onsite during service calls and personally witnessed said hazards. It was said that Jenn Air product engineers/managers routinely ignored known safety hazards that they refuse to address safety issues despite known fire and gas hazards. Using plastic parts against metal stems is inherently defective. An oven not closing also constitutes a hazard.
This range has defects that pose serious safety hazards and should be recalled. The knobs and oven closure mechanism are both defective and should be replaced. Alternatively, If I cannot safely use this appliance without risk of injury or death, I would like a refund. I would be open to a replacement provided the replacement does not contain the plastic interior parts.

No one hurt Made Oct 21, 2024, sent to the company Oct 25, 2024, published by CPSC Nov 8, 2024
The product, in the report: Jenn-air dual fuel range with downdraft. Gas cooktop and electric oven.
A Jenn-air range model JDS1750FS1 was installed by a certified installer. The range is very dangerous. The 2 front burners are 4.25 inches wide and 17,000 BTU. I can only use the front burners when they are on the very lowest setting. Even then the heat is so intense that it burns my hands if I try to chop onions into a pan that is on the burner. The heat from the front burners is so intense that it warped the Stoveguard custom liner within 2 days of installing it. Since I can only cook on low, it makes sense to go from off to ignite to low when turning on the burners, then back to off. Instead, because of the configuration of the burners, I have to go from off to ignite to high (where the flames shoot out 2 inches around the bottom of the pan) and over to low. To turn it off, I have to watch out for the flames again. Before I knew to be extremely careful I picked up a pan with one hand and turned the burner off with the other hand. The sleeve on my arm that was holding the pan caught on fire as the flames shot out around the pan. The other problem is the oven. If I have the oven at 450 degrees for 1 hour, the shelf on the front of the range where the knobs are gets very hot. So hot I can’t keep my hand on it and it would burn a baby’s hand. The temperature of the shelf after only one hour was almost 120 degrees. It’s because the heat isn’t contained in the oven and instead comes out the top of the oven door. Also, when I have the oven at 450 degrees for 1 hour, the cabinets on either side of it get very warm. Metal items in the adjacent drawers get hot to the touch. I’m concerned that it will damage my cabinets over time. I’m also afraid that if I leave the oven on for more than one hour the combustible items in the adjacent cabinets could catch on fire. The oven heat is coming out the front and the sides instead of being contained.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air dual fuel range, model JDS1750 FS1 serial RB18 10849 28” deep X 30” wide stainless steel
I purchased a Jenn-Air range with a gas cooktop July 2022. I discovered that the gas can be turned on without any flame igniting it. I realized this when I turned on a burner under a pan and turned away for a minute only to smell gas!! The burner had not ignited. I didn’t think this was even possible with a gas cooktop. I reported this to Jenn-Air and they said, yes that is the way this stove is designed. One must pause at the “ignite” spot on the knob before selecting the temperature. I am astounded that this is possible because it is not only a danger to me, but also to my children and my husband who is dealing with dementia. I have had guests who experienced the same thing when they cooked at my house. I have had other gas top ranges which did not let this occur. The product, in the report: Duel fuel downdraft oven / range.
We recently purchased a Jennair duel fuel downdraft oven / range. We quickly noticed that an exposed part of the oven reaches temperatures of at least 326 deg F. As this part can be touched by a person or object, or be placed in the near vicinity of wood or other flammable material, I cannot believe that this would pass UL 858 or IEC 60335-2-6. Jennair simply says they stand behind the safety of their product and that it meets all requirements.

The product, in the report: Jenn Air Dual-Fuel (electric oven, gas stove top) range, stainless steel, 30’’ width
We had cooked soup on our stovetop, then had eaten dinner, and were pouring leftover soup into jars (long after cooking, so stove was not hot). Some soup -- perhaps 8 oz. -- spilled onto stovetop, moisture quickly leaked into the stove’s electronic control unit inside the stove, and started an electrical fire there -- we could hear sizzling & popping sounds, and smell melting plastic and smoke. We immediately cut power (at the circuit breaker) to the stove’s elecrical circuit, and the fire went out. The next day, we removed part of the stove’s front cover to let the moisture dry. 36 hours after the spill, we restored power to the stove, but an electrical fire immediately started -- flames leapt out of the open cover of the stove. Accordingly, we immediately again cut power to the stove’s circuit. This stovetop’s poor design enabled a routine occurrence -- spilling a modest amount of liquid onto the stovetop -- to start an electrical fire within the stove. A web search showed that a similar incident had occurred with a similar stove from the same manufacturer.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 3, 2020, sent to the company Feb 4, 2020, published by CPSC Feb 19, 2020
The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that his oven range is designed so once pulled out, its rack automatically slides back in so if the consumer wants to remove a baking dish from the oven using both hands, he has to insert both arms and hands inside the oven, which may be very hot.
The consumer also notes that since the rack automatically slides in, it means the oven rack is not leveled but rather tilted down. If the consumer uses a baking dish with oil in it, the oil may spill on the back, and could cause a fire.
The consumer has sustained minor burn injuries to his right wrist because of the safety hazards of his oven range.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him that they would take care of the problem by retrofitting the unit.
The consumer states that he uses both oven and cooktop at least once daily, which was installed on 08/13/2019.
The consumer plans on keeping the oven range for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Jen air model JDR8895AAS dual fuel oven
We purchased our Jen air dual-fuel stove in 2008 At the time of purchase we were very excited to have the dual-fuel option, and to have a smaller oven on the top- so we did not mind spending the $$$$ on what we thought would be a great stove. Within the first 6 months of using the stove we noticed the glass windows of the oven doors were getting dirty with food remnants, and spills - there is no way to clean inside the doors. They are sealed in such a way that you can not get any normal cleaning utensil in there to clean. This can get pretty unsightly. After having the stove for about a year, one night after washing dishes- we put a wet pot on top of one of the burners. ( burners are off) all of a sudden all of the burners started to make a clicking sound, about every second. We could see all five burners flickering along with the noise. We could not get it to stop, so we unplugged the stove to get it to stop. About a year later the noise happened again, this time there was no water involved. Again had to unplug the stove to make it stop. Then year 3 of having the stove..RUST! Wow, after three years there is rust on the front of the bigger oven. This really compliments the incredibly gross glass door. Now, going on year 8 of having the stove, I am steaming corn on the right burner - also have chicken cooking in the over. I turn off the burner with the corn, within a few seconds clicking noise starts. I turn the burner back on and then shut it off to see if would make it stop. Still the clicking noise every second -then all of a sudden every half second. Then sparks shooting out the sides of the stove top - a lot of them! I saw a flame burst under the burner and did not hesitate for a second to grab the fire exsinguisher and blast it. .. There goes dinner. And the stove! We want this out of the house. Completely Unsafe!! Seems like this could of just randomly happened! There a more than just a few reviews on similar issues with this stove - and some people are wanting to get it fixed ? This is a horrible model. Should absolutely get recalled.

The product, in the report: Jennair single wall oven
I purchased a Jennair wall oven back August 2015. Unbeknownst to me the side metal strips that are located on each side of the oven are causing scorching burnt marks/ discoloration to the wall cabinet. This came to my attention when the technicians were replacing an electronic panel that was defective. When the technicians pulled the oven out from the cabinet is when we saw the damage. The problem is that these side metal strips get extremely hot, especially when the oven is in self cleaning; temperature can reach as high as 900 degrees. This is also present when the oven is on for a long period of time, depending on what is being cooked. I’m afraid that the cabinet may catch fire if this condition continues without the manufacture taking appropriate action to rectify this situation. The manufacture (Jannaire) has been informed of this condition but has elected to ignore this potential hazards that can lead to a potential house fire or personal injury.

Wall Steam Convection Oven Jennair model: JBS7524BS-0, serial #XP52501505
Date: Jan 7, 2016
During reheating a dish, using the convection reheat steam feature, condensation forms on the interior top of the oven, especially the door frame . Reaching into the oven, with the door open there are two hazards. 1. Escaping steam when you first open the door. This is could be a burn hazard if your hand does not remain on the door handle. Hey, steam rises. 2. Reaching into the oven, using a pot holder, condensation on the interior of the door frame has dripped down and burned my hand at the drip spot. Granted if one to use a oven mitt, this would shield your hand from these drips. One could be surprised and drop the dish that you are pulling out of the oven having resulting in other injuries..

The product, in the report: Wall 0ven
I purchased a Jenn-Air wall oven/microwave combo along with a gas cook top on 10/15/2004 when I remodeled my kitchen. In June 2005 the oven door feel off while my 13 year old daughter was baking. Fortunately she was not injured and door was not damaged. A factory authorized repair service was contacted and the technician replaced the hinges on 7/1/2005. Approximately 5 years later, the door fell off again. Again, no one was injured and the door was not damaged. We reseated the door in the hnge pins according to the instructions in the operator’s manual and installation manual. Now, 5 years later, the door fell off again, but this time the glass shattered into a million pieces. I filed a complaint with Jenn-Air. They stated that the door is not replaceable, but repairable if the parts are available. I am doubtful that all of the required parts are available. Anyway, do I want this door back on my oven?? When researching this problem, I noticed that there have been plenty of reports of the oven door falling off and I am sure Jenn-Air has even more that we don’t know about. This product is a serious safety problem and should have been recalled. There is a chance of injury due to the weight of the door falling on a leg or foot, serious burns from a hot door, and danger from shattered glass. Jenn-Air needs to take responsibility for the safety of their customers and rectify the problem by replacing the product with a safe door.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air dual fuel 30 inch range Model #JDR8880
This is a Jenn-Air dual fuel range. The knobs are placed right above the oven. The knobs are made of 100% plastic and they melt with use of the oven. I have complained to the company many times (under warranty and out of warranty) and they tell me to just buy new knobs. On Thanksgiving day, I went to turn off a burner and the knob had melted. I could not turn off the flame. I quickly grabbed another knob and tried to use it to shut the flame off but it would not work. We then tried a pliers--nothing. The flame was on high and I couldn’t shut it off. The fire Dept had to pull out the range and shut the gas off at the valve. There are MANY complaints about this online.

The product, in the report: 30” Dual fuel range with electric ovens and gas cooktop
Watching TV Sunday night heard a popping noise in the kitchen looked up and saw sparks shooting out of the control knobs of my Jenn Air Model JDR8895AAB Serial#10450130ER, then flames came out from the control knob area. I yelled for my wife to get the fire extinguisher while I ran to turn off the circuit breaker for the range. When I got back upstairs the fire had gone out but the house was full of smoke. We opened up the door and windows to clear the smoke out. After settling down I pulled the stove out and turned the gas valve off located behind the stove. I called the fire chief and left message about the incident. Monday 4-7-14 the fire investigator came by to check out the stove verifying a faulty electrical problem with the controls had started the fire. Case #[REDACTED] with the hall county georgia fire department 770-531-6838. Contacted Jenn-Air 4-7-14 explained problem sent service tech out 4-8-14 to inspect unit. The tech confirmed problem with the gas control unit for the stove. Jenn-Air said was repairable at my expense since unit was no longer in warranty quoted $233 for repair. There is no way I could with a clear conscience put this unit back in one of my properties after seeing first hand what resulted in a potentially catastrafic fire.

The product, in the report: This is a dual fuel range; gas cooktop ; electric double ovens
Caller stated that she heard a loud popping noise and noticed that the flames were erupting below the cook top (burners) which is in between the location of the oven. The range was off at the time this incident occurred. Her spouse immediately used the circuit breaker to switch off the power to the range and the flames dissipated. There was prior service call approximately 2 years ago for the lower oven spontaneously turning on by itself. A new control panel was installed at the time, which resolved the problem.
2/11/14 The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed that a service technician will be sent out 2/12/14 for inspection. Caller feels that this range is a fire hazard and should be recalled.
UPDATE FROM CONSUMER: On Feb. 12, 2014, a service technician sent by JennAir (Whirlpool) inspected the range. He was unable to examine the space directly beneath the cooktop where the fire occured, due to the fact that the screws attaching the burners to the cooktop (especially those on the most heavily-used elements) were corroded so badly that they would have been drilled out. He then did a visual inspection from the rear of the range. He had us restore power to the range to see what would happen. As soon as power was restored, the sparking and arcing occurred again. After immediately shutting off the power again , the technician stated that “the burner switch shorted out, causin arcing and smoke.” We believe we were lucky to be present when the incident first happened, and we were able to shut off power immediately. Had we been absent or asleep (this happened when the stove was not on, not being used), we may have been injured or sustained property damage.

Our Jenn-Air dual fuel range started on fire tonight.
After about three years of use, I came downstairs to the kitchen because our dog was barking to find the range was billowing black smoke. I turned off the circuit and unplugged the range.
The ignition switches on the stove top were clicking and popping. This must have started the fire.
I looked up the description of Jenn-Air dual fuel range and fire on the Internet and it has happened to a number of other people.
This range is not safe. If we were not home I am not sure how far the fire would have gone.
Please look into this product and force a recall. I would not trust this range at all.

Our JDR8895aas Jenn Air gas range began popping under the 3rd control knob and looking like it might catch fire. It has a spark ignition system, and it usually sparks at the burner, but it was sparking under the 3rd control knob. It did this while NO ONE was touching or near the oven. This could cause electrical shock or fire as the knobs are plastic and the housing for the switches are plastic. We now keep a fire extinguisher near until this gets fixed. I have read on line that this is not an isolated incident.

The product, in the report: JennAir dual fuel double oven model jdr8895aas
I was baking bread and muffins in a JennAir dual fuel double oven range model jdr8895aas. I happened to have both ovens going at the same time with very moist doughs in each so the steam that vents from just below the control panel on the top of the range was more pronounced than usual. I heard an arcing sound like you hear when someone is welding, and I noticed this light coming from the digital control panel. The sound lasted about 2 seconds when flames started coming from the back of the digital control panel. I ran to the garage and flipped off the breaker. I went back inside the kitchen and opened the patio door to let the smoke out. It smelled of burning plastic. When everything had cooled down I removed the back panel on the stove and saw the electrical connectors at the control board were blackened and fused along with the wires leading from the ovens and that the baffle that supposedly separates the oven vent from the control panel has two gaps one at either end. This allows steam and heat from the oven to enter the area of the control panel. So in effect they let heated steam run across live electrical circuits.I believe it was the steam from the use of both ovens at the same time that caused the arcing to start. It’s like venting a clothes drier through a desktop computer. Sooner or later something bad is going to happen and in my case it was nearly a very very bad thing. If I had not been standing right in front of the stove the kitchen could have started on fire and I could have lost my house . Instead I only lost a 2000 dollar stove. These thing should be recalled and redesigned so that they are not vented across the control board.

The product, in the report: JennAir JDR8895AAW gas stove electric dual oven.
My stove is a JennAir JDR8895AAW, a gas cooktop/dual electric oven. There is a washer on the cooktop that allows water to drip onto the self-igniter switch for the right rear burner control.
This morning, a small fire started at that switch. Fortunately, my home circuit breaker shut off the power, and the fire quickly stopped.
Investigating underneath the cooktop, I see that a wire from the ignition harness had somehow broken loose, and had made contact with the cooktop, sparking the fire.
The fire itself was in the plastic that surrounds the gas control knob, scorching and possibly melting part of the control assembly.
I have turned off the gas, and unplugged the appliance. However, anyone that allows any water onto the cooktop, whether from overflowing cooking or from cleaning the stovetop, will have this same problem.

I have had a Jenn-Air Dual fuel double oven range for the last 6 years. Model #JDR889555. I was cooking dinner a week ago and had a pot simmering on one burner. Suddenly, the burner next to it (which was off) began to try to ignite. The ignitor just began firing by itself. I didn’t know what to do, as the burner was “off”. Within 30 seconds, sparks began to fly from under that burner’s control knob, then spread to the next knob. Flames began to shoot out and electrical smoke as well. Since this is a gas stove, I called 911, as I didn’t know what was going to happen. The flames then subsided and I waited for the firemen to arrive. They disconnected the unit and shut off the gas for safety. I later went online to see if this had ever happened before to anyone and was shocked to see a long list of identical incidents on off burners. I got rid of the stove, as I would never trust it again. This is a dangerous flaw and needs to be reported. Why was this product not recalled???

Problem was reported to Jenn-Air “customer service” this AM. They denied any knowledge of previous reports of this problem--despite numerous complaints that I spotted on the internet.
Outcome pending service call scheduled for tomorrow AM (3/16/2012)

The product, in the report: Dual fuel range, black
I purchased a Jenn-air range, dual fuel, on 9/14/06. Since that time the range has literally caught fire twice. The first time, the bake element caught fire after a mall particle of pastry crust fell on th element. Normally such a small piece if food fallin on the floor of the range would just smoke until it smolders out but this burned the element completely out. I had to order another another bake element before I could use the oven again.
The second time, one month ago, the oven went up in flames while baking bread. Fortunately I was home and was able to get the fire extinguisher and douse the flames. the bread was as black as tar from the smoke. The bisciut had been in the ove about five; hardly enough minutes to burn and catch fire.
I called the Maytag recall line to report the problem and asked if there had been a recall on this product. The rep said not as far as she knows and proceeded to give me a lecture on safe cooking and what would naturally cause a fire if a morsel o food falls onto the element. After sixty years of baking, I have had many spillovers while baking bread and pies but never had an oven catch fire before.
I am almost paranoid about leaving the kitchen now wlile the oven is on.

Maytag/Jenn-Air Dual-fuel oven/range
Manufacturer: Maytag Appliances Model: JDR8895AAS Serial No.: 13411627GP
Appliance was purchased in late 2005. Appliance has had many minor problems, such as control knobs breaking off. Approximately two years ago, the right front igniter on the range stopped working. Every time I use the top broiler, an “electrical” smell emits from the appliance for approximately a day. The plastic seals around the glass on bottom oven door appear to have melted over time.
On November 9, 2011. I was simmering some taco meat and using the oven at 350 degrees. Spontaneously, the igniters began rapidly clicking (approximately two times per second).
After about 2 minutes of clicking, I heard a loud pop and sparks flew out of the back of the range, near the top. Thirty seconds later, another loud pop and shower of sparks occurred. Thirty seconds after that, a third loud pop and sparking occurred.
After that, the igniters continued clicking, but a much slower rate (approximately once per second).
At that point, I turned off the appliance’s circuit on my circuit breaker.
This seems to be a well-known problem that has resulted in more than a few kitchen fires, as I have found several consumer reviews detailing the same or similar problems:

I was making dinner in the oven of my Jenn-Air range. The circuit breaker flipped. I turned it back on and the oven appeared to be functioning. I then received an error message ID 11 which was not in the hand-book. I tried cancelling the oven and it would not shut-off. It not only would not shut-off it began to heat up beyond the 350 degrees it was set for. The oven appeared to be off as the display was blank. I only noticed it was not off because I could still see the flame in the bottom of the oven. I called the Fire Department. They shut off the gas and electricity to the stove. My appliance serviceman said that the oven had a manufacturers defect. The ignitor wire had frayed and ground itself on the oven wall. He replaced the ignitor wire and turned the stove on. The problem still existed and he said the circuit board was fried as well. I had him disconnect the oven and I contacted Jenn-Air. They opened an investigation. I want you to be aware of this problem in case they do not do anything to warn people of the existence of this problem. If I had left the house or not checked the flame, my house would have been on fire. The model number of this range is JGS8750BDB, serial number is 13664615LR. I bought the range in 2007 so it is only 4 years old. Please contact me if you have any further questions. Thank you, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Jenn-air Dual-Fuel Modular Downdraft Slide-In Range Pro Style
I have a Jenn-air dual fuel range/oven. The oven is electric and the cook top is gas. I purchased it in summer 2009. This summer (2011) as I was broiling a cheese dish, I heard a noise and suddenly a huge amount of gas started spewing out of the unit. I immediately turned off the oven. Then I rushed around trying to figure out what to do. I went out to the gas meter but couldn’t figure out how to turn that off. I called two neighbors for help, neither was home. I ran down to another neighbor--not home. I saw a man walking his dog. I asked for help and he came to my house. I gave him a wrench and he turned off the gas. By this time probably 5-7 minutes had passed and the house was full of gas, I opened the windows and hoped the house didn’t explode with me and my cats inside. That was a very frightening experience. I had the gas company come over and he said he never saw anything like it and red-tagged my unit. He said there was a shocking amount of gas coming out. He determined it was coming from the oven and not the gas line from the house. The service person Jenn-air sent said the same thing...just a huge amount of gas and he couldn’t tell where it was coming from in the oven but something inside was wrong. They took the unit to the shop for repair. I was without a range for weeks. In the end I was told that the gas line wasn’t installed properly and that every time I opened or closed the oven door it rubbed against the gas line until it was severed hence the large leak!!! I am worried that if the factory installed the line improperly in my unit, others could face the same frightening and dangerous situation. Here is the unit info: Model JDS 9865BDP22 Jenn-air Dual-Fuel Modular Downdraft Slide-In Range Pro Style. This was an expensive appliance that I regret buying and would never recommend to others.
