  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 19, 2024, sent to the company Sep 24, 2024, published by CPSC Oct 8, 2024

The product, in the report: Bertazzoni 36” SS Dual Fuel Range

When my 14 year old son was cooking a pizza at 425 degrees, we heard a large pop sound and the glass inside compeltely shattered; some in small pieces but also large shards of glass. He was just about to open the door, this could have caused significant injuries!

The product, in the report: Professional Series 48 Inch Freestanding Dual Fuel Range with Natural Gas, 6 Sealed Brass Burners, Double Ovens, Griddle, Convection Oven, Self-Clean Oven, Continuous Grates, Viewing Window, Sealed Cooktop Burners, 19000 BTU Power Burner, Dual Convection Fans, Continuous Grates, Temperature Probe, Cast Iron Grates, Telescopic Glide Shelf, Metal Coated Knobs, Elegant Temperature Gauge, Self Cleaning, CSA Certified in Stainless Steel

I am reporting two incidents spanning apx 4 months, because despite several emails to Bertazzoni Customer Care, Customer Service, After Sale Service and what turned out to be the Marketing Division, the only reply was from Marketing. I emailed customer support at Bertazzoni on April 14, 2023 regarding a cooling fan, whereby a wire was rubbing into the blade, causing cuts to the blade and the wire, hence it’s failure. I wrote to Bertazzoni that this should have been picked up in their inspection process because the fan was very loud. We have never owned anything like this and simply assumed that’s the way a Professional model sounds, however I received no reply. The cutting of the wire certainly could have caused a short, this being a clear indication of “Faulty Wiring” and not a component failure.

The second incident was when the small side oven blew up at 330 deg. F, as the unit was reaching a temperature of 350deg. F, (I place an oven thermometer in the unit, as this doesn’t have one). I was standing in front of the unit, when I heard a loud rocking boom, and turned to see a bright white light in the electric oven. I immediately turned off the oven, opened the door and smoke billowed out.

We had the same repairman out and he indicated it was due to the Baking Element (coil). After he removed the floor plate from the oven, you could see where the insulation was burned through to the bottom spanning a distance of apx 11” long and 2.5” wide. His helper indicated he just viewed a safety video where this type of fire can continue to burn, even after the unit is unplugged. Upon doing my own research, it is written that the primary cause of this incident is “Faulty Wiring”. Needless to say I was very shaken, knowing this unit may be compromised and now feeling unsafe using the primary oven which is much larger. As of this writing, we are waiting on this component as it is out of stock and on a 4 week back order. The part is ordered through Bertazzoni. I should add the unit is one year out of a 2 year manufacturers warranty, (3 yrs old), however, as previously mentioned, this isn’t product failure. In my opinion, the reason I haven’t received one reply is that no one wants to touch this with a 10 foot pole, so the saying goes.

To complete the questions, I was not hurt, I am the primary user. This model is manufactured for home use, not commercial.
