Made Mar 20, 2026, sent to the company Mar 26, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 9, 2026

The product, in the report: Thermador PRG486WDH Professional Series 48” Stainless Steel Gas Pro Harmony Range With Griddle

Product: Thermador 48” Gas ProHarmony Range with Griddle (PRG486WDH, purchased 8/2021). In the afternoon on 2/1/2026, both the stove and the oven were completely off on our Thermador 48” range. Out of nowhere sparks started shooting out of the oven. Smoke started billowing into the kitchen. I was in the kitchen at the time this occurred and used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire. The fire department came out to ensure the fire was put out entirely. Subsequently, we had a service technician from the appliance company where we purchased the unit come and inspect the product. It appeared that the fire originated in the electrical board. The electric board had spontaneously sparked and caught fire. At the time of purchase, we had secured the extended 5 yr warranty with appliance company. Thermador told the appliance company that they would do nothing for us. The appliance company stood behind their warranty and worked with us to get us a range from another brand. It is extremely scary to think what could have happened if we were sleeping or not home. Furthermore, it is extremely disconcerting that Thermador did not stand behind their product or to our knowledge even do an investigation into what could cause such an issue.

The product, in the report: stainless steel 36 inch gas range

My thermador range has very sensitive easy to turn on oven knobs. My 1 year old granddaughter turns the knobs & we have found it on later in the day. The knobs are on the front of the range. The stove knobs have to be pushed in but the oven just turns & this is a hazard for causing a gas leak or the baby can get hurt. You can just brush against it & they will turn.

The product, in the report: Thermador Range PRG305WH (Propane)

We started using our new Thermador LP range oven in Fall 2021. The first time I turned on the stove, a huge flame exploded in my face. My two young children were in the kitchen with me and our carbon monoxide meter/detector started beeping nonstop! It turned out the unit had the wrong LP conversion kit. [REDACTED] finally came to switch out the kits weeks later after Thermador provided the correct one. Since then, the stove/oven has simply not been functional. I have taken off work a dozen times due to BSH/Thermador service techs having to come for one repair after another (uncontrollable flame with blue tips, oven temperature not accurate, oven not holding temperature, constant beeping from the oven even though there are no electricals whatsoever, etc). The Thermador tech, [REDACTED], is either incompetent or deceptive. He supposedly adjusted the flame control, switched out the entire “module” and 2 blower fans and insisted that would solve all the issues. The issues persist making the stove/oven useless and dangerous - and today, he says all these issues are normal just b/c he cannot fix them. Apparently, the beeping is not from the blower fans like he said at the last service appt; the beeping is now from the metal floor of the oven? The tech is clearly incentivized to have people keep faulty defective products rather than report the issues accurately to Thermador so that they take responsibility. Given all the issues I have experienced and the ongoing issues that persist, I am terrified of using this unit due to the constant beeping that sounds like a ticking bomb about to explode. I have spent hundreds of hours dealing with customer service and Thermador techs on these issues. This is a new Thermador stove.

The product, in the report: Thermadore Slide in-gas range with oven Model PRL305PH\05

Within a few weeks of purchase, the consumer noticed a gas odor in her home. The front 2 burners were difficult to turn on. Her local propane company sent technicians out to her home because of the gas odor. The technician researched the issue and said he thought it was a problem with the front burners.

The right burner would shut off and sputter during use. The left burner would not start properly. The consumer has kept a record of 8-10 service calls on this range for various problems, since she has owned it. She contacted the dealer and they contacted [REDACTED], who sent technicians out to look at the stove. Technicians from [REDACTED], have consistently examined this range.

NOTE: The consumer has never paid for the service calls, because the manufacturer covered the cost. The consumer said that the manufacturer extended her warranty on the existing range, due to the frequency of the problems.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer numerous times over the years. Their resolution is for the consumer to pay $2700.00 for a new range with a similar model. She does not believe she should have to pay for the new range in light of the issue she experienced.

The consumer has not used the oven, due to her fear. The consumer uses the back burners and the center burner, but has discontinued use of the front burners.

The firm has sent technicians out as recently as 5/20/2021.

The manufacturer has assigned the consumer a File: [REDACTED] (Customer Service: Tel: 800-735-4328).

I ran self-cleaning on my Thermadore oven for the first time since I’ve had it and the glass exploded into tiny shards and glass dust. The glass dust exploded into the inside of the oven, fan, cracks, etc. There is no way to ensure 100% of glass particles will be cleaned and not contaminate food when the oven is running. My year 1/2 year old son was standing about 2 feet away when it happened. If he was closer, he would have had 600* glass shards blow up in his face.

The product, in the report: Thermador 48” gas range Model PRD48JDSGU

I was preheating my thermador range, model number PRD48JDSGU serial number 12 - FD980500071 around 5pm and began to smell a burning rubber/chemical smell. We turned off the range as my husband and I both began to feel ill and had nausea. we decided not to cook that evening. My nausea continued and we went to bed. At roughly 1am our carbon monoxide detector went off and we ran around the house and opened windows to air out the house and then sat in our vehicle until the fire department arrived ( I can provide proof of the fire department being called to my home). They could not find the cause. Since then I have on sporadic occasions had a similar burning and chemical smell when preheating my oven. I have reported this to thermador and they have sent [REDACTED] appliance repair out to my home on several occasions, but couldn’t replicate the smell. It seems to happen on occasion and not consistently until 2 weeks ago when the same thing happened again where the smell was so bad we had to leave the house and my husband vomited from the smell. After that the entire range began blinking and clicking saying “turn knobs to off”, (I have a video of this) I ran to shut off the breaker to the unit and waited a while, but once the breaker is turned back on, it does the same thing and will not operate at all. Thermador has not been helpful and I have been without a range for over 2 weeks which included thanksgiving. I am afraid to have this range in my home and want it removed and replaced as it is a hazard to my health and safety and that of my entire family. We have a granddaughter who also stays with us sometimes. Please help us.

Thermador 60” range leaks natural gas when oven vent fan is on and any or multiple burners are on low. This occurs when the burners are lit and also when the burners go out as they fail to relight as designed, opening and closing the orifice thus releasing additional gas. No injuries yet, with the exception of harmful effects of unburned natural gas and potential for a devastating explosion if enough gas is leaked.

The top ledge just above the dial and in front of the grates, gets extremely hot to the touch.

The consumer called the manufacturer and they sent a technician out on 11/12/2020. The tech measured the temperature, when the front burner was in use. The front edge of the range reached a temperature of 184 degrees. The tech. did not feel that any service was needed on the range, since it would only reach this temperature when cooking.

The consumer is concerned that children or an elderly person could touch the range surface and burn themselves. The consumer said that an adult touched that surfaced and received a minor burn, but no medical treatment was needed.

This is a stainless steel range.

Caller is reporting that he cooktop stove has a faulty design the flames that shoots from the burner were able to melt the knobs. She stated that the flames were about 8-10 inches high, this occurred after 5 mins while the water was boiling in the pot. She contained the flames by using a cast iron to smother the flames because she could not use the knobs, the two left knobs melted. Caller stated that the knobs are very close to the burner which if the user is not careful can receive burns. She stated that this problem has been ongoing since she started using it.

Caller stated that she tried to contact the company through email but that didn’t work, the contact number took her to a different company.

Caller is concerned that this stove is a fire hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: PRL304GH Thermador 4 burner gas range, Pro Harmony Range

I purchased new Thermador Model: PRL304GH, which is their 30 in Pro Harmony Range. I am concern there is safety and potential burn and fire hazards. Since they claim it meets safety standards, I am not entitled to a refund. The company representative explains it is safe for the back of the stove to heat up 25 degrees hotter than the temperature (e.g. Oven bake 500 degree = back of stove 525 degrees.) When cooking in the oven over 300 degrees, the knobs become hot to touch. Also, I am concerned about the fire hazard. Even when the installation instructions are followed, how can the back of the stove heating up to over 525 degrees be safe when wood ignites at 525 degrees, [REDACTED] cement board is safe only to 200 degrees, and Drywall at 125 degrees? I am concern my new wood cabinets will become igitner wood, and the walls behind the stove pose safety hazard. Also, the electronic panel is between the oven and stove top, which appears to be a safety electrical hazard with the intense heat too. I do not understand how this is a safe exterior stove operating temperature for residential use. Also, I do not see how this meets safety product codes when whole stove is hot, including the knobs to touch. This is a concern in household uses for children and people with sensory deficits.

The dual gas safety valve on my Thermador GCRG304 malfunctioned, and did not shut the gas off to the broiler when the broiler was shut off, allowing gas to continue flowing into the oven chamber . Could have caused an explosion if leak had not been detected by the smell of gas. Gas was shut off to the oven. When the gas valve was replaced, the old valve was still stuck in the open position. I have the old valve as evidence.

The product, in the report: Sometime in early 2000’s I purchased a Thermador cooktop model PCS366US along with other appliances when I redid my kitchen. Since then I have replaced several spark electrodes (part number Bosch 415124) since they crack easily and they need to be in one piece in order function properly and to use the gas burners safely. As they are fragile porcelain and frequently crack in half they were in need of expensive labor and replacement charges yet now it has gotten to the point where I can not have service on the cooktop because the part is no longer manufactured by Bosch or anyone else and I have gone through extensive search for a replacement parts and none are available. At one point the gas flame was able to be turned on using a match and the burner would function just fine, however inconvenient that was at least it was possible. Now it has gotten to the point where of the electrodes has now completely broke off and nothing is in it’s place therefore deeming that burner useless. I can still turn on a flame with a match but then it becomes a safety concern because the absence of the electrode has a safety feature that has the unit click and the clicking signifies a gas leak, this was intended to be a safety feature so ignoring it is not a good idea. And it is only a matter of time that all the electrodes will break off. Last I checked, there was one of these electrodes available on ebay for aprox $180, although this part is normally between $10-15, I would have taken a chance making the purchase but I would still have a problem the next time around because as I mentioned, this is a fragile porcelain part. Is there any regulations in the industry to prevent the need to replace appliances due to discontinuance of parts? These appliances are not inexpensive that, they should be changed out every decade.

The product, in the report: 48 in Thermador professional gas range, dual oven

We had a fire in the oven in the Thermador Pro Gas range we use in our kitchen on 2/28/14. The fire started roughly 15 minutes after the over was turned on. This could have led to a whole house fire and we were fortunate that my wife was in the kitchen at the time. She started screaming and I rushed to the kitchen to see smoke and small flames coming from the oven/range. We were lucky that the fire did not spread.

The technician from the local applicance repair company who inspected the appliance pointed out that the wire harness and controls for the push button models were closely packed in the range and if the button was not fully pressed in, it could cause arcing and lead to a fire. Appartently this has happened with other Thermador push button range models.

We contacted the Thermador Customer Service immediately after the incident and are still trying to resolve this with them. Their File # is [REDACTED]

    Thermador 36” Range, Model #PG366BS-05

Oven would not operate properly. Upon selecting temperature for preheating the oven, convection fan would not kick on but Oven would start heating. Temperature would rise to exceeding hot regardless of the set temperature. Afterwards, oven would stop heating for a bit, then cycle on and off without reaching desired temperature. Initially, when the temperature become so hot, the heat emanated from the rear and front of oven with potential for scorching the owner or melting surrounding items.

Repair/assessment/parts/labor totaled approximately $750. Was told control module stopped working and needed to replace whole assembly.

Upon researching for solutions, this is a common element for both ranges and wall ovens.

The product, in the report: 48” stanless steel professional grade gas range and stove

08/22/2012. The incident involved a gas leak caused by an electrical arc in the Thermador model stove cutting eight holes in the main gas line feed inside of the stove thereby allowing gas to leak unabated into the home and creating a fire. The consumer stated his wife started the oven to heat a pizza. A flame burst out from the back of the stove and flared up. She turned off all of the gas control knobs on the stove but the fire kept growing and the home filled with gas. She used a halotron fire extinguisher to put out the flames but continued to hear and smell large amounts of gas coming from the stove. The home filled with gas and she left the house fearing it would explode. She called the fire department who promptly came to the house. The gas was shut off at the outside gas meter main valve.

The fire department entered the home with self contained breathing masks and pulled the stove from the wall and saw that the fire had mostly been contained within the stove. The fire department called the utility Southwest Gas who immediately sent a technician to the home. The technician disconnected and capped the gas line to the stove and removed the metal backing to the stove. He discovered that the manufacturer’s gas line inside of the stove had eight holes burned into it from electrical arcing from non-insulated high voltage electrical lugs/wiring inside the stove. The technician from the gas company confirmed the gas line from the home had been correctly installed and the gas leak was a product defect by the manufacturer within the stove which the gas company had seen before.

The fire also destroyed the fan and other wiring inside the stove. (See attached pictures). The damage was confined to the kitchen.

The product, in the report: Thermador 6 burner Grande Gas Range, stainless steel, with self cleaning function

On Saturday, April 30, 2011, I set my three year old Thermador gas range to self clean for the first time. Within three and a half hours, thermostat clicked off. Oven started to smoke from underneath and side. Family was evacuated from house, fire department was called. Range and surrounding cabinets were engulfed in flames. Fire department put fire out.

Extensive fire damage to kitchen and home. No physical injuries.

This incident was reported to Thermador and CPSC by myself and the fire inspector from insurance. [REDACTED]

The safety concern is clearly Thermador has recalled thousands of their ovens for the fire hazard their ovens present while in the self cleaning mode. This product has the potential to cause serious physical injury to the consumer and their families. Yet, no one from Thermador, nor the CPSC, showed up for this scheduled appointment.
