  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 7, 2023, sent to the company Jul 12, 2023, published by CPSC Jul 26, 2023

The product, in the report: 4-Burner, gas cook-top

The cooktop was in the home when the consumer moved in, so she is unsure of the product’s age. The home was built in the 1950’s.

The cooktop doesn’t have an electronic ignition. When there is a strong downdraft, the igniter can go out and the consumer notices the smell of gas. Since she is aware of the issue, she will carefully re-light the pilot.

3/2023: The home was treated for termite.

(End of May-2023) The gas company came out and identified several gas leaks in the home. The gas company technician advised the consumer not to use the cooktop, because of the gas leak concern, unaware where the leak(s) might be.

(June-2023) The consumer opened all windows and tried to use the cooktop, with caution. However, she found that flames were coming out at the valves. She immediately turned the cooktop’s burner off and discontinued use of it, closing off the gas shut-off as well. She searched the Internet and found CPSC’s Recall# 85-050.

(6/2023) She later called manufacturer listed in that recall. Their rep. asked for the purchased/manufacture date, but the consumer did not have that info. Their rep. suggested consumer call a technician out and gave the consumer the phone numbers to 2 local appliance companies. The consumer hasn’t called them yet as they would charge for the visit and were unlikely to have replacement part.
