The product, in the report: NXR 36 inch propane range, pre revamping.

I bought a NSX oven from Costco about 5 years ago. From the beginning, the igniters did not go off, or sometimes failed to ignite, releasing propane gas into the kitchen. Also, for the first time, some propane leaked out despite turning the switch off.

I have notified Costco and the company. Costco said they would look into it. I have heard nothing back from Costco after this, and the range company never responded

  4. No one hurt

Made Jul 20, 2017, sent to the company Sep 29, 2017, published by CPSC Oct 16, 2017

The product, in the report: 36” gas range and oven.

We have an issue with our NXR DRGB-3602C, purchased from Costco on 8/2/2015.

In June 2016, the oven igniter had to be replaced (under warranty) by an appliance repairman contracted by NXR/Duro.

On 7/16/2017, we (the consumer) turned the oven on for baking. As it was preheating, we opened the oven door to adjust the oven racks. While the oven door was open, large sparks suddenly started to emit from the floor of the oven, all around the metal plate that covers the igniter. This was followed by a loud bang, so loud that it was interpreted as an explosion. We quickly closed the oven door, turned off the oven, and ran outside. No one was hurt and the sparks stayed within the oven.

This issue was escalated to Costco on 7/18/2017, who then discussed the issue with NXR. NXR’s response was that since the product was still in warranty, they would send someone to replace the igniter again. They stated that there was no safety risk with this oven part, and that besides replacement of the igniter they did not feel additional action was necessary. We are not completely confident that it will not cause harm should a similar incident occur again.

The product, in the report: NXR 36” Pro Style 6 burner Gas Oven

purchased 5/1/2014, Installed 5-16-2014. Sent 1O yr warranty card on 5/31/2014. Item is a 36” Pro Style Gas Oven, Model NXRDRGB3602, Serial HXlHDRG2021091. Saw online at “Appliance Connection” Website is applianceconnection.com/nxr-drgb3602lp.html . WE paid 2856.88 . 7 months after installation, with less than normal use, in Jan 2015 we noticed ALOT of rusting inside the oven (below the 2 racks) which got worse. February 2015 We contacted Duro Corp, the mfg who demanded we go thru ADCO their servicer. On FEB 19 2015 [REDACTED] from Adco contacted us, we sent photos of our rusted oven interior, he confirmed via email that our oven had “chipping and FLAKING PORCELAIN” -he ordered service-Authorization# [REDACTED]. On March 29 April 15 & May 29 2015 we received emails from [REDACTED] saying the parts were back ordered. Emails were exchanged and finally A year later, on March 21, 2016 we were told the shipment was in- interaction #[REDACTED]. Service guy sent by Adco did repair the badly rusted “oven floor cover” but the OTHER part, which was the “oven Base” “door frame” (perimeter of the main piece oven floor” was “the wrong part, it didn’t fit. He said he’d order it. We never heard from them again, until I had to once again contact Adco, as this time the Heat Seal around the inner oven door was corroding badly &left white particles of the corroded heat seal which resembled a white powdery “dust” on both the oven & kitchen floor, I assume this dust was likely in our food and air as well as this white dust fell to the kitchen floor. Even after cleaning it off it would re-appear within a week or less. I sent photos to Adco & did agree to repair it. I told them to also replace the perimeter piece of the rusted oven that they never did& promised to do since Feb 2015. I emailed [REDACTED] from Adco on Dec 14,15, & 16 she said she would have service guy fix it all. Repairman came Dec 2016, he did replace the corroded seal, but said the “perimeter oven part” was wrong& Adco must have given him the wrong part # & he’d order it. We waited, heard nothing - I followed up with [REDACTED] on April 2,3,5,7,8, telling her I want this oven fixed properly, I want the rusted out part promised to us since March 2016 replaced..I got continual run arounds..i.e “She will look into it” finally I said I wanted to speak to someone in Management at Adco Or Duco, she on April 7 emailed me saying A Senior Customer Service rep from Adco will call you. No one called; I emailed her to tell her and I wanted someone from top mgmt to call - she said I should call them. This escalated to the point of [REDACTED] becoming rather “testy” & implying that I WAS NOT BEING PATIENT! (Going on TWO YEARS NOW I am WAITING” In addition to this part we are still waiting for our oven is still rusted inside & now the burners make a clicking sound very often that regardless of how you control the flame still “clicks” I read complaints all over the internet on these ovens regarding rusting, paint chipping, & “burner clicking” This is marketed as a PRO STYLE oven & we paid 2856.88 AT this point I want a refund, in FULL. Not only is the rust unsightly I believe the inner door corrosion was likely toxic to digest and breath in as it was all over our kitchen floor. Marketing these inferior, if not dangerous ovens, is in my OPINION, CRIMINAL, and particularly so to sell it for top dollar....they sell for upwards of $3,300 now! Additionally, my husband was hospitalized in Jan 2016 with a deadly rare disease called “Epidural Abcesses of the Spine” He almost died, had surgery at Good Samaratin Hospital in W. Islip, NY, and after surgery endured 2 months of Intravenous Highly Potent Antibiotics for 8 weeks to recover...the recuperation was 6 mos or longer. No one knows for sure why or how he developed this, but after seeing this white dust in our oven from the corroding seal, which also fell to our kitchen floor all the time, I have to wonder but have no way of knowing exactly WHEN the seal STARTED to corrode; I only noticed it when it was very bad (Oct 2016 approx) as my eyes are not that good. I feel but have no way of knowing for sure if this contributed to my husband’s rare and deadly illness, but I certainly would think that a corroding heat seal, made I guess in China made from who knows what, and bad rusting inside our oven in which we prepare our food, is in any way GOOD for ones health! I simply filled in the “injured party” on the form, as it is certainly a possibility, it happened, but I do not know what caused it ! Anyway if you Google reviews on this particular oven, you will see many complains as to the rust and other problems.
