The product, in the report: Freestanding vent free gas stove, 23000 BTU.
We purchased and installed a Napolean vent free gas stove, Model GVFS20N. Upon first use, 10/29/2013, discovered that the amount of time between opening of the gas valve and ignition of the burner significantly exceeded manufacturers specification. We recorded 32 data points over a period of 24 days. The ignition time averaged 53.25 seconds, with a low point of 2 seconds, and a high point of 180 seconds. The manufacturers specification states “a 5 to 10 second total light up period is satisfactory.” When the gas valve opens, and the unit fails to ignite within the specified time, the room becomes flooded with natural gas, creating a hazardous condition. The performance of the stove was verified by a licensed contractor who inspected adjustments and settings, and had a lengthy direct communication with the manufacturers technical support people explaining the issue. The problem was not resolved at that time. We registered a warranty claim with the manufacturer and are currently awaiting a disposition.
