Made Jun 18, 2026, sent to the company Jun 23, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 9, 2026

The product, in the report: LG Electronics Residential Freestanding Single-Oven Gas Range, Component ID Stamped on Unit: MEZ57157114 (Located on structural metal housing/control framework), Likely Associated Model Numbers: LRG3060ST, LRG3093ST, or LRG3193ST, Standard Exterior Color / Finish: Stainless Steel (with black glass oven door window), Standard Industry Size: 30 Inches (Cabinet Fit Width), Overall Product Weight: Approximately 189 lbs to 227 lbs, Oven Interior Capacity: 5.4 Cubic Feet

I was home with my 16-year-old daughter and my elderly mother coming to visit from South Korea. Suddenly, a loud noise came from the kitchen, and we saw that the oven we had for years had suddenly exploded, despite it being turned off. When we called LG to try to solve the dispute, we were told that we needed to pay the $400 fee despite the issue not arising from user error.

The product, in the report: A five-burner, double oven gas stove. Manufactured January 2014 (day estimated)

Yesterday evening I ran the self cleaning cycle on the upper oven of our LG Gas Double Oven, Model LDG3035ST. This morning when I went into the kitchen I cut my foot when I stepped upon a piece of glass by the oven. When I looked at the oven door I saw that part of the glass panel in the oven door had cracked into small fragments, a few of which were on the floor. The door, and thus the oven, was now useless until a replacement door could be installed. I contacted LG. I was told that it was possible that LG would replace or repair the door as an out-of-warranty courtesy. I am waiting to hear back from them. This oven was purchased in late 2014, and this was approximately the third time I had run the self cleaning cycle.

The self cleaning cycle is a feature of this oven. The fact that it destroyed my oven in the process of cleaning itself is distressing and, I believe, an indication of a manufacturing or an engineering problem. All I had to do to initiate the process was remove the oven racks, which I did, and press the button to start the cycle.

The product, in the report: LG Stove/oven 4 burner Model LRG4113ST/00

Our stove knobs have been turned on by simply walking by and barely brushing up against them. Thus causing our house to fill with gas at least 6 times since we’ve purchased the stove 4 years ago. The last two time have happened just recently and once we weren’t home for many hours and the whole first level was filled with gas.

The product, in the report: LG Gas Range Model #LDG 4311

This has not been the first incident, but it was by far the most frightening. The gas range (model # LDG 4311) was on for at least a couple of hours before I found it. The knobs are located at the front of the unit at an angle and with a design that makes it remarkably easy to release the gas unintentionally. The knobs don’t make a sound until they reach ignition, there is no click or other indication that gas is being released. If these knobs were located somewhere else, or had a light, noise, or other indicator that told one when gas was being released, I wouldn’t be writing this review. As it is, this is a dangerous product for anyone who uses the stove, or a microwave placed above it. There either needs to be a recall or a way to lock the knobs in place when not in use. The results, had I not had a good nose or woken up could have been disastrous!

The product, in the report: LG FREE STANDING GAS RANGE

Knob on gas stove has been frequently bumped causing gas to turn on silently, and without lighting, while reaching for the built-in microwave above it or reaching for dishes stored above. This causes the kitchen to be filled with natural gas. If someone is in the house after this happens, then the smell of the gas alerts us to the situation. However, if the knob is bumped on and we leave the house, the entire house could be filled with gas, causing a very dangerous situation.

This has happened at least 10 times, but fortunately there has not been a fire or explosion (yet).

The spring rate in the knob is extremely low, allowing the knob to be pressed and slightly turned by just casually leaning against the knob. With three engineering degrees in the family, we all agree this is an easily-fixed design issue that if not fixed, can lead to injury or loss of life.

This has been happening ever since purchasing the stove over five years ago.

The product, in the report: LG gas range

Just bought LRG4113ST gas range two weeks ago. Knobs are so sensitive that you barely bump them or lean against them they ignite the burners. Have almost caught our clothes on fire and burnt my arm while trying to clean the stove and leaning up against the burners to reach the back. This has happened at least six time that I am aware of. Then last night one of my kids bumped against it and we woke this morning to a house filled with gas. Luckily the windows were open and the fumes weren’t to strong. Called LG for recall information and option for replacement knobs. Still waiting for follow up.

The knobs keep breaking on this range. I’ve called and complained. I’ve tweeted them. They finally blocked me.

I cant turn the gas off on my stove anylonger!!!! I’ve replaced the knobs 6 times in 7 years at a cost of almost $100 each time.

    They MUST fix this!

The product, in the report: Double oven gas range

I’ve identified a serious safety problem with this range. I am 5’4”, the average height of an American female. Several times over the past week I have engaged a knob and started burners while reaching to either start an oven function or use the over-the-stove microwave. Today, I put a cup of tea in the microwave and walked out of the room. I walked back in several minutes later to the strong odor of gas. I believe the knobs, which are located on the front of the unit, are too sensitive to weight and far too easy to engage. (I did not even feel the knob when I put the cup in the microwave.) I believe this is definitely an engineering flaw and should be addressed immediately before someone sets themselves on fire or blows their house up.

Following is the conversation log from a chat I had with LG this afternoon--I don’t believe they understand the seriousness of the problem:

Time of chat: 12/30/2016 3:15:59 PM Length of chat: 00:50:20 Your name: [REDACTED] Chatted with: [REDACTED] 3:16 PM [REDACTED]: Hello [REDACTED]. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today? 3:16 PM [REDACTED]: I’ve identified a safety problem with this range and want to get in touch with your risk management folks. 3:16 PM [REDACTED]: Hi, good afternoon. Hope you’re doing great! 3:17 PM [REDACTED]: I was until I almost set myself on fire 3:20 PM [REDACTED]: Thank you for contacting us about it. 3:20 PM [REDACTED]: May I know what happened> 3:20 PM [REDACTED]: ? 3:21 PM [REDACTED]: Here’s the problem. (we just purchased this stove along with two other Lg appliances) I am 5’4”, the average height of an American female. Several times over the past week I have engaged the knob and started the front burners while reaching to either start an oven function or use the over the stove microwave. Today, I did the unthinkable. I put a cup of tea in the microwave and walked out of the room. I walked back in to the smell of gas-no flame but enough odor to put my radar on high. 3:22 PM [REDACTED]: Let me read your message. Hold on. 3:23 PM [REDACTED]: I think the knobs are too sensitive to weight and engage too easily. I did not even feel the knob when I put the cup in the microwave. I believe this is a definite engineering flaw and should be addressed immediately before someone sets themselves on fire or blows their house up after they walk out and don’t realize they’ve engaged the gas. 3:26 PM [REDACTED]: Thank you for contacting us about it and I am sorry for the inconvenience that caused you. 3:26 PM [REDACTED]: Let me check what I can do for you and let me try my best to assist you. 3:26 PM [REDACTED]: My suggestedretrofit recommendation would be to replace the knob spring with a much heavier spring to reduce the potential of accidental turn-ons 3:28 PM [REDACTED]: Luckily today, I was not in a hurry and on my way out. That could have ended very badly because there was no flame. 3:29 PM [REDACTED]: If you can turn the knob with out pushing it in, the knob may not be placed correctly on the shaft. 3:29 PM [REDACTED]: Pull the knob off the shaft, line it up and reassemble the knob onto the shaft. 3:29 PM [REDACTED]: If the knob will not return back to the proper position it will need to be replaced. 3:30 PM [REDACTED]: No longer use the knob and ensure the gas for that burner has turned off completely. 3:32 PM [REDACTED]: It’s not just one knob I’ve managed to engage. Moving sideways while at the stove a couple of days ago, I reached for a pan on a back burner and managed to kick the center burner on high. My gut feeling is the problem is the spring assembly on all the knobs. 3:32 PM [REDACTED]: That is why I believe your risk management team needs to get involved. 3:33 PM [REDACTED]: They need to fix the problem and retrofit this particular model with the fix across the spectrum. 3:34 PM [REDACTED]: you know..like recall 3:35 PM [REDACTED]: The shaft of the knob maybe cracked. 3:35 PM [REDACTED]: look at the knobs shaft and see if there is any damage like cracks. 3:39 PM [REDACTED]: [REDACTED], that would mean the more than one knob would have to have cracks. (I did not see any signs of damage when I pulled the knob I engaged today.) This stove came out of a pristine box and I was here when it was carefully installed. Be aware, I am going to follow up by contacting the US consumer product safety folks. I don’t want to see anyone disfigured or killed because this is easily fixable. 3:47 PM [REDACTED]: [REDACTED]? 3:49 PM [REDACTED]: The knob has safety switch, by which you have to push it before turning the knobs but it the knobs is not stting properly or the knob shaft or knob body is damaged. The knobs should be replaced. 3:49 PM [REDACTED]: So can you try top remove the knobs to check the knob shaft or knob body 3:58 PM [REDACTED]: I apologize it appears I may have lost my connection with you. I will remain on the line for approximately 3 minutes before exiting the chat. 3:58 PM [REDACTED]: Already did that. ALL the knobs can be engaged with practically no pressure exerted. The thing that concerns me the most is the knobs, while not turnable when not depressed, can be depressed using almost NO pressure and just enough to engage the gas without the consumer realizing it. This is definitely an engineering issue. 3:59 PM [REDACTED]: Did you try top remove the knobs to check the knob shaft or knob body? 4:00 PM [REDACTED]: I do realize this problem is above your pay grad so please put a supervisor on this chat who can elevate this conversation to your corporate headquarters. Thanks 4:05 PM [REDACTED]: I am happy to provide you the contact information of our technicians however I want to make sure that this is a problem with the unit. If the technician founds out that the knobs are working fine or the knobs are not sitting properly you might be charge. 4:05 PM [REDACTED]: To get in touch with our Supervisors, you may contact them at 800 243 0000. 4:06 PM [REDACTED]: Thank you. ------

I called the number provided and basically got the same scenario!
