The product, in the report: The product is a gas-fired GE Hotpoint stove/oven, model number RGBS400DWM3WW. The color is white.
Appliance in question is a gas GE Hotpoint combo oven-stove, model number RGBS400DM3WW. The insulation on this unit is so poor that with the oven on and the stove off, a pot of water on the stove is heated almost to boiling. With the oven on and the stove off, the top of the unit is often too hot to touch, and heats nearby items as well. We have burned ourselves this way several times.

No one hurt Made Oct 1, 2025, sent to the company Nov 14, 2025, published by CPSC Dec 1, 2025
The product, in the report: 30-in 4 burners 4.8-cu ft Freestanding Natural Gas Range ( White )
New GE stove purchased July 2025. Stove top burners are painted, very slippery, and the paint flakes off while cooking. GE has told me to sand down the burners and hold the pots while cooking. Also, to ignite the burners you turn the dial all the way to the bottom--most stoves have ignition at top of dial, so you start with high flame and lower turned dial upward. If you go too far you hear the ignition clicking--so the stove starts ignites on high setting and you turn the dial upwards to lower flame. Problem is, when you turn from ignition at bottom up to LO, the flame goes out--unless you turn the dial very slow and make sure the burner stays lit. No stop gap to tell you the flame has gone out and kitchen fills with gas, especially if you leave the room after turning the dial to low to let something simmer and do not realize the flame has gone out. Imagine, you have company for Christmas. You’re cooking, setting table, etc. You turn the dial to low or even almost to low to let your gravy simmer. Meanwhile, the flame has shut off, gas fills your kitchen, and a person in the dining room strikes a match to light candles on the dinner table. This does not end well. There is not stop gap. With the ignition at the top as on most other stoves, you hear a clicking sound warning you have gone too far. This stove is so dangerous. Have talked to GE and have been told the engineers say the product is safe. It is not. Pots slid off the grates and the flame goes out. Do you hold the pots on the stove top while they are cooking. That is their response. Other consumers have also contacted GE. Another customer did try to sand the grates without success, so sanded the bottom of his pots instead. Bought the stove on line. Model was basic and not carried in stores. Wanted a simple appliance with no computer. Did not expect this much anxiety over just boiling eggs.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 25, 2023, sent to the company Sep 5, 2023, published by CPSC Sep 20, 2023
The product, in the report: gas range with oven
4/5/2022 A new range was placed in the home.
A few days after being installed in the home, the consumer noticed problems with the range.
The grates on the range slide down into a depression, but they extend nearly 3” above the range surface. The consumer has burned her hand, when incidentally coming into contact with them. The burners get extremely hot during use and within a mili-second, one can sustain a significant burn.
The working surface between the grates is also very narrow (approx. 6”) and increases the likelihood of someone getting burned.
(2022) The consumer reported her concerns to the manufacturer and received response, indicating that they had not received any complaints on this nature, with the stove and nothing further was offered by them. She also sent them photos of her concern, but no further correspondence occurred between the 2 parties.
None of her burns requirement medical treatment.

The product, in the report: Gas range with oven and broiler on the bottom
Within 3 days of the range being installed, it began to emitted an odor, which seemed as if the enamel was giving off an odor.
The consumer is not sure if the odor was mainly from the use of the oven or the range burners or both.
The odor is constant in the home, but it may either be fading out or the consumer has gotten used to it.
5/4/2022: He called the manufacturer ([REDACTED]) and reported his concerns to them. The rep. ([REDACTED]- last name unknown), looked up his model and told him that the range was discontinued. She offered send out a technician at his expense, but the consumer declined.
The consumer is concerned that the odor, might be adversely affecting him and his family.
He is not 100% sure, but believes that his landlord may have purchased a “used” range.

The product, in the report: 2004 Hotpoint Stove. Gas.
We own a 15-unit apartment complex that was built in 2004. The original construction used Hotpoint stoves. We have replaced approximately 4 stoves already and have ordered 2 additional stoves.
The ovens turn themselves on at random intervals when the control is in the off position. This has resulted in 1 fire already. We have two stoves out of service right now, due to them turning themselves on.

The product, in the report: Hotpoint® 30” Free-Standing Standard Clean Gas Range RGBS400DMWW
Suddenly, my oven glass door came shattering into tiny shards of glass. My two year old was just two feet away from the oven when it happened. No improper use was done and this was totally traumatizing. HotPoint agent casually apologized for the incident and said it’s not their responsibility because it’s after one year of use. The oven is just about 6 years old. Seriously this is completely unsafe, and should be dealt with with more accountability.

No one hurt Made Oct 24, 2016, sent to the company Nov 8, 2016, published by CPSC Nov 23, 2016
The product, in the report: Oven Range
The consumer indicates that three hours after he had gone to sleep he was awoken by security personnel from his building indicating that a neighbor had complained of the smell of gas and they had concluded it came from his apartment. The consumer went to his kitchen and noticed that one of the knobs on his oven range was on even though said oven range had not been used. The consumer believes his wife must have accidentally brushed against the dial when she was in the kitchen.
The consumer states that the electronic ignition of his oven range is at the end of the dials and not at the beginning like most other oven ranges; this poses a safety hazard to consumers since one can easily brush against a knob and turn the unit on unbeknownst to that person. The difference with a knob that has an electronic ignition at the beginning is that a person can hear the “clicking” of it and become aware that they accidentally turned the unit on.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke to informed him that in order for the knob to turn one must push against it. The consumer noted that although this is true, the knob requires very little force to push and turn. The consumer filed a report with the Manufacturer: [REDACTED],
The consumer states that, prior to the day of the incident, the oven range was used approximately four to five times per week; the consumer uses said oven range with the same frequency to date. The consumer is unsure if he will keep his oven range for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Gas range
Hotpoint gas range... rear burner piezoelectric has failed. I was heating a meal on the front burner and had just put another pan on the rear burner; I held the rear burner knob fully counterclockwise in anticipation of ignition. What happened instead was that the gas from the rear burner drifted to the flame on the front one and exploded, startling me and causing me to upset the pan’s contents. The underside of my wrist was very much irritated; all red and sore for quite a while afterwards.

The product, in the report: hotpoint gas range oven
Hotpoint Gas Range oven Model RGB745BEH7WH, Serial TH209904R
Unfortunately I am unsure of the age however I can say I have had the same issue since it was purchased. I will guess and say approximately 6 years ago this oven was purchased.
When using the oven there is a very strong gas oder. A service tech told me it was fine and normal for a small oder. I called the gas company several times throughout the years of which they too told me it was “normal”.
Upon completion of the gas company fixing a small gas leak from the instalation of a new meter I asked again if they would check my oven. I do not feel it is normal to have to air out a kitchen in order to use an oven.
This gas tech took her time and allowed the over to heat. She then measured and immediately shut off the oven stating it was at a gas leak level of explosion. I was advised to not use the over portion and to service immediately.
I have been unable to locate any recall information regarding this oven and in return am reporting this information to you.
