The product, in the report: GE four burner gas stove Model number JGBS60REK9SS Serial#GD339918P
I have a new GE gas four burner stove. Model JGBS60REK9SS Serial#GD339918P. The burner grates are covered with a slick enamel. When cooking my pots and pans slide all over the stove with very little force. They slip and slide just from simple stirring of food.

The product, in the report: GE gas range, 30in. Black with stainless steel accents.
Product was a GE range, model JGBS66REK4SS, serial GS111196P. Spontaneous combustion of glass in oven door. Range and oven was not in use, had not been in use for more than 10 days, middle of night we heard a loud explosion and went to kitchen to see what happened. Glass was all over the kitchen floor, scattered all over, anywhere from 2-5 ft from the stove. Injuries certainly would have happened if my family was in the kitchen or using the stove or oven. We were lucky that no one was hurt including our little dog who is home alone at times. I am reporting this incident as I would not want another consumer to be injured.

The product, in the report: stand alone gas range and oven
We bought a GE model JGBS61DP4EE, serial DD402519P Gas stove for my elderly Mother. She complained that brushing by the stove top gas knobs could cause them to move slightly and open the valve letting gas escape. The igniter on this model stove does not start until the gas valve is completely open, which creates a situation where if the knob is bumped and the valve opens slightly there is no indication the gas is escaping. The results are a home filled with natural gas overnight and a very dangerous situation. Could lead to an explosion or asphyxiation, either way the design is unsafe and may lead to death.

The product, in the report: gas convection, air fryer oven with grill plate on top of stove
The first time I used the gas stove, I set it to preheat. I got my ingredients out and had started to prepare the food to cook. I heard a lot of crackling in the oven, I turned and immediately turned the gas off, I opened the door to the oven and the glass blew up and went everywhere, it was all over my kitchen. If I had my face there and went to put the food in the oven, it would have hit me in my face and my body. We had bought the range and after the day it was delivered, this happened. It was a GE gas convection, air fryer with the grill plate . I wasn’t injured but I was terrified and I was so upset and I trembled the rest of the day and that made me scared to use another gas range. I was so shook up, I had it taken from my kitchen and asked for a full refund.

The product, in the report: GE gas range with broiler. It is black and was purchased at Home Depot. Label has been damaged from normal use. One number is missing in my label but I have filled it in to the best of my knowledge by searching online using what I have. Product: GE 30 inch Free-Standing Gas Range, Model JGBS19DENBB
Product: GE 30 inch Free-Standing Gas Range, Model JGBS19DENBB The knobs on this range turn with the slightest bump or incidental contact and are positioned at a height easily reached by children. When bumped, they immediately begin releasing gas. There are no safety features requiring a push-down or full rotation before gas is released, and no bump protection of any kind. Our household has had literally hundreds of accidental activations that were caught quickly, and 2 incidents serious enough that the fire department had to respond because gas had been releasing undetected for a period of time. The only functional solution we have found is removing the knobs entirely. Child safety covers marketed for this purpose do not work on these knobs as they remain too easy to rotate or bump even with covers in place. I became aware this was a reportable safety issue after seeing recalls issued for other range models for this exact problem. I believe these same knobs were used across multiple versions of this unit, though I cannot confirm whether other versions included additional safety features that this model lacks. Note: this part of the form does not allow for apostrophes for some reason. It says I am using a character that is not allowed.

The product, in the report: General Electric Gas Stove, Model # CGS980SEM1SS. Serial Number # MR202009P.
General Electric Gas stove model CGS980SEM1SS has plastic knob fittings that degrade over time. When they crack and break, a user can think they are turning off the gas to a burner, when it is not actually fully turned off and gas continues to flow. Replacing the six knobs on the stove cost me hundreds of dollars.

The product, in the report: GE30 in. 5-Burners Slide-In Smart Gas Convection Range in Slate with EasyWash Oven Tray And No-Preheat Air Fry
I am writing to formally express serious concerns regarding the GE gas range I purchased from Home Depot on November 9, 2024, which was delivered on November 15, 2024. Since my purchase, I have only been able to safely use the stove for approximately 56 days due to recurring gas leaks and safety hazards. November 20, 2024 Within days of receiving the unit, I detected an overwhelming smell of propane throughout my home. I immediately contacted my propane company, and they confirmed a gas leak originating from the unit. January 6, 2025 After a prolonged delay, the issue was finally repaired. March 2, 2025 The propane smell returned, this time originating near the oven. March 4, 2025 I contacted GE to report the issue again and am still waiting for the repair. On the same day, I attempted to use the stove, and upon turning on the range, the flame was large and red and my dress was singed. While I was not injured, this incident made it clear that the unit poses a serious safety risk. I cannot continue using this appliance as it presents a significant health and safety risk to my household. Furthermore, GEs failure to promptly resolve this issue has resulted in additional financial burdens, as I have had to spend hundreds of dollars on dining out and purchasing alternative cooking methods. Despite these ongoing concerns, GE has not shown urgency in addressing the problem.

No one hurt Made May 25, 2024, sent to the company Jun 6, 2024, published by CPSC Jun 21, 2024
The product, in the report: Gas oven/stovetop standalone
Electrocution and explosion hazard on General Electric Gas oven/stove model JGBS66EEK1ES. Gas oven/stove has Line and Neutral wires improperly installed at factory to the ignitor/spark module. This miswire caused two dangerous conditions, that would have been mitigated, had the unit been properly assembled at factory. The violet Line wire was plugged into the Neutral position on the spark module, with the white Neutral wire plugged into the Line position on the module. The rear cover holding this module was removed for inspection and cleaning. The wire connected to the NEUTRAL position of the spark module became unplugged, resting inside the chassis. The cover was reinstalled without noting this loose wire, and an attempt was made to ignite the stove from the knob. This energized the disconnected Line wire, which contacted the oven chassis/ground. This created the first hazard, electrocution thru the body of the oven. As the oven was on a AFCI circuit breaker in the house, it did trip properly. The second hazard was that with this line wire disconnected, the spark module was inop, and turning the knob further allowed gas flow without ignition.
If this spark module was wired properly, the wire that became disconnected by removing the rear cover, would have been a NEUTRAL wire, carrying no voltage. This would have prevented the electrocution hazard, and the spark module may have potentially remained functional, using the ground wire as a return path, preventing freeflowing gas without a spark. This may still have tripped the AFCI/GFCI breaker, which would alert the user to a problem.
The positioning of the spark module allows for (if appropriately installed) NEUTRAL wire to catch on the panel below it on removal.
This wiring reversal was verified by comparing it to the wiring diagram taped to the rear of the appliance, and voltage tests.
UPDATED ON 5/29/2024: [After correcting the problem identified in this report, (reversed neutral and Line wires) the gas stovetop has a more powerful ignition spark. Before the cover was initially removed for cleaning, and throughout the life of the unit, the burners would often fail to light until the knobs were turned almost past the ignite portion of the knob. I used to have to turn the knob back to the ignite range and it would often “flare up” on first ignite. Now the burner will light right away at the BEGINNING of the ignite portion of the knob. This is much safer as there is a lower gas flow and flame.
I did not contact the manufacturer as it is out of warranty, after business hours, and from past experience in contacting their support, they would not have been capable of recording a serious safety report. ]

The product, in the report: General Electric JGBS66EEKES Gas Range, black, 30 inch
We purchased a a General Electric range, model JGBS66EEKES, from Home Depot on June 8. The range was OK until about a month ago when I noticed some tiny silvery pieces in the bottom of the oven. I cleaned them up and thought maybe it was glitter from something. It happened a couple of additional times, so I gather them up in a rage and used a magnet to find out if they were indeed metal. And they were. So we cleaned the stove out and looked carefully for a source and found nothing that could be a source, except the grates. We took the grates out and brought the oven to 350 degrees for 15 minutes and checked. No silvery pieces. We repeated the process with the grates in, and we had silvery shavings in the bottom. Definitely the grates are stuffing their coating.

The product, in the report: General Electric JGBS66DEK5WW 4 burner gas range
My mother owns a General Electric JGBS66DEK5WW gas range. Three times now I’ve discovered the range ignition knobs on and venting gas, presumably as a result of my mother accidentally brushing against them. I examined the range and found that it takes almost no pressure against the control knobs to open the valves--depressing the knob a mere 1/10 of an inch will open the gas jet. I was able to turn on the gas by leaning against the stove for a moment and then turning away, which provides all the mechanical action required to depress the knob and open the valve. All four control valves exhibit the same behavior, so this is a defect of design, not of manufacturing. It is simply too easy to accidentally turn on the gas.

The product, in the report: Home natural gas stove, free standing white 50”, four burner, self cleaning single oven , four front control knobs
Gas seems way on before anywhere near “lite” position and clicking sound. This model requires knobs to be turned about 180 degrees to “lite” position before actual ignition. Too easy to bump knobs on unused burner, when working around stove using other burners. Didn’t have this problem with old gas stove. Knobs at front of stove on both stoves.

The product, in the report: General Electric 30 inch Natural Gas Range, 4 Burner Free-standing, 4 Sealed Burners, 13K BTU Power Burner, Black Matte Steel Grates, 4.8 Cu Ft Oven, Broiler Drawer, Standard Clean, white on white
On 5/19/23 the inner door of my GE stove exploded, sending glass shards all over the inside of the stove and, when I opened the stove, all over my kitchen. Inevitably, I got some glass in my foot because some of the shards were miniscule. The imploding glass may have damaged other parts of the stove which would not necessarily be visible. The stove was not on when this happened, and I have used it only according to manufacture instructions. I have owned the stove for only 1.5 years.
This is the second safety issue. The stove started leaking gas from the beginning (purchased 10/18/21, took possession 11/6/21). It took two service calls and 4 months to fix, and in the interim I had to have my family leave the house multiple times because the house filled up with gas.
Now, the glass continues to spill out the bottom of my stove. I have removed several glass splinters from my feet and the stove is still full of glass shards and poses a danger. I finally managed to reach a supervisor in Consumer Relations after 2 weeks of trying. I explained that this is a defective stove that must have been rushed through QC, and that the problems started when the stove was in warranty. I asked for a replacement stove because I didn’t think it was safe to continue using the one I have. The supervisor told me that they will not replace my stove or refund me even though I’ve been put in danger twice, because it is out of warranty. They are taking no responsibility for the multiple safety issues and don’t seem to care that the integrity of the stove may have been damaged by all the glass now inside it. She said there is no further recourse except for sending a snail mail letter to a PO box.

The product, in the report: It’s a basic kitchen range, 4 cook tops and one oven. Nothing fancy.
The burner knobs on new gas stove turn on with only a slight brush or touch. If I walk too close and brush a knob, it often turns then emits gas that I may or may not notice right away. I’ve actually taped down 4 of the 5 knobs most likely to do this. I’ve also painted a small red stripe at the top pf each knob to help me spot if it has turned.

My dog stood up near stove and put paw on knob and burner turned on. When I reach to turn on timer and lean against stove burner comes on. Knobs turn very easily and burner comes on at the slightest touch. I have caught my shirt on fire several times as well as a dish towel. It is very scary leaving my dogs home alone knowing they could stand up next to the stove and start a fire.

The product, in the report: Gas range, 30”, 5 cu. ft., stainless steel, with a stovetop griddle and self-cleaning oven
I bought a General Electric (GE) gas range in November 2020 for my mother. The model number is JGB660YP1FS and the serial number is TR202232P. I purchased it from Home Depot online. The appliance was delivered in late November or early December 2020 to a vacant apartment being renovated. My mother moved into the apartment two months later at the end of January 2021. My mother is in her 80s and disabled. She is bedbound and physically unable to stand walk or perform most activities without assistance. She does not cook anymore. Home care aides attend to her they do the cooking. The cooking is almost always done only on the stovetop. The oven has rarely been used for cooking since the range was purchased. To the extent that it has been used, it has been under normal conditions. For four months, from August to December 2021, my mother was away from her home in a hospital and nursing home rehabilitation facility. During all of those time periods, the appliance was not used at all. In the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, August 27, 2022, when my mother was alone and in bed, she heard a strange noise coming from the kitchen area, which startled her. When the home care aide arrived later in the morning, she saw broken glass on the floor by the appliance and more glass continuing to break off from inside the oven. She called me and I came over. I saw hundreds, maybe thousands of chunks of glass that the aide was sweeping up. The aide needed to use a vacuum cleaner to remove the smallest shards so that no one would step on them (including my mother’s cat) and get cut. The aide and I carefully opened the oven door and saw that the inner glass pane had almost completely cracked and fallen apart. There was still a section of glass remaining, which continued to break off. It looked like it was “raining” glass. Eventually almost all of it broke off. On August 29, 2022, I contacted GE’s Consumer Relations Department, told them about the incident and was assigned Case Number [REDACTED]. In my opinion, this incident is due to a manufacturing defect, since the oven has not been used or barely used since the appliance was bought almost two years ago. Both the stovetop and the oven have been used in a normal, typical manner. Oven glass is not supposed to spontaneously break into pieces in an appliance that has been used for less than two years and used in a normal manner by the customer! I have reported this to G.E.’s Consumer Relations Department and sent them photographs of the damage. They have sent a technician to inspect the appliance on September 9. I saved the glass shards and he saw them. So far the overall attitude of the company is that since it is past the standard one-year warranty (from the time of purchase), that I likely will have to pay for “repairing” the damage. No one that I have dealt with in the Consumer Relations Department seems to be taking this seriously as a safety issue in an appliance they manufacture and sell under the General Electric/Haier brand. I find this very unsatisfactory and concerning. I have photos of the damage to the inside glass pane and the glass that broke off. I have also attached photos of the label at the bottom of the appliance with serial number and other information and proof of purchase. You can contact me at [REDACTED] or [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: GE 30 in. 4.8 cu. ft. Gas Oven in Black Model # JGBS10DEMBB Store SKU # 1003563695
I purchased a General Electric gas range model #JGBS10DEM3BB on 3/27/2021, which was delivered on 8/42/2021. The first time I used the broiler in November it caught the food on fire. I had to actually reach into the flame to pull the food out so I could put out the flame. This broiler has a wire rack and did not come with a broiler pan or drip tray, so I used my own. The front of the stove of coourse sustained some burn damage, as the fire had to be pulled out of the broiler to be put out. A replacement stove same model was given, and the food in the oven caught on fire on it’s first use, and filled the house with a very dark smoke. I contacted GE on numerous occasions, and am still working to get it replaced with a different model. Injuries were smoke inhalation and having my local fire department come to fumigate the house of the smoke and smell. A middle aged person was using the stove through both instances to cook steaks in the broiler, and chicken in the oven.

The product, in the report: General Electric 30” white Gas stove. The stove was made in Mexico. Lowes delivered and installed it using new hoses on the back which my daughter also purchased.
There are 2 things that need to be checked out on this General Electric gas stove. My daughter bought this for me this past February so it is new. The first thing is that where the controls are located on the top has an extremely sharp lower section that is open and when I was wiping the stove down I received a very bad gash on my hand. I think this part should be protected somehow. The metal that cut my hand was just about razor sharp. The next is even more dangerous. I was baking a Tri tip the other night and had a glass measuring cup with a knife and a spoon in it on the top of the stove where the burners are located. When I picked this measuring cup up it was so hot it burned my hand. I had to remove it with a dish towel. I had previously noticed that anything that was on the top when the oven was in use was extremely warm and wondered a bit about it. But I was shocked at how hot the glass measuring cup was. This could be very dangerous to someone.

The product, in the report: Gas range with oven
Since the consumer took delivery of the range on 9/14/2021, she kept noticing a gas-like odor in her home when using this oven.
She later found out that a faulty ignition in the oven, kept allowing gas to be emitted in her home. The problem did not occur every time she used the oven, but it did occur periodically and consistently.
The consumer called her local utility company and they shut off the range, when they identified the problem.
12/2021: The consumer reported the matter to the dealer and they provided her with an identical replacement range on 12/27/2021:
12/28/2021: The consumer called the manufacturer, but the rep. (name unknown) advised her to go to their website and report this matter to them. The consumer went to the website, but did not see how to submit her concerns to the firm. She also believes that the firm’s rep. should have taken a more proactive approach to addressing the matter.
9/22/21 was when the utility company shut off the range.

The product, in the report: General Electric 5 burner gas range with oven and broiler Model JGBS66DEK3WW
The consumer experienced problems with the stove starting on the same day it was delivered.
1. Neither the oven or the broiler doors, close properly. If the consumer looks at the doors from a side view, she can see the floor beneath the doors, through a gap on the bottom of both doors. 2. The consumer turned on the 4 burners, but the flame goes out sporadically and seconds later, it comes back on. She did not try the middle burner, so she is not sure if the problem occurs with it. The consumer reported this to the manufacturer’s authorized technician and she indicated that she was told that as long as the flame comes back on, she can use the range. 3. The range has small chips on the body and she requested touch-up paint, which was provided. 4. The consumer requested an anti-tip bracket to be installed. However, the manufacturer sent her the bracket with instructions on how to install it. 5. The manufacturer’s authorized technician has been out to her home 5 times, since it was installed on 3/6/2020 and made different repairs. 6. The oven racks did not fit properly. The technician removed them, placed them on the floor and bent them with his hands. He was able to then place them inside the oven, but the consumer said that they do not slide in easily and can be difficult to remove.
The consumer said after the technician left the first time, she noticed a gas leak in her home. The technician came back and remove all the pipes and installed pipe dough around them and reassembled it.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer for a 6th or 7th time. The manufacturer has offered to give her a voucher to use another service technician, but the consumer said it would not cover the cost of parts.
The manufacturer’s technician told the consumer that he believes the range/oven has been damaged during the manufacturing process. He told her that he has done every repair, as instructed by them, and there is nothing else that he can do, except request a new range/oven.
The consumer contacted the dealer and asked for a replacement, but she was told that since she contacted the manufacturer they can’t take the unit back. Additionally, since it had numerous repairs, they cannot resell it. The consumer questioned, why they would want to resell it.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer and asked for a replacement stove, but she was told she had to contact the dealer.
The dealer said that the manufacturer has to authorize the replacement, so that they could get reimbursed for the stove.
NOTE: The consumer said that neither the manufacturer or dealer, has copies of “all” the technician’s service reports.
The consumer is also concerned about possible CO poisoning.
The manufacturer has provided her with their TICKET # [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: GE gas range, model JGBS30REKSS 30” Stainless steel
My landlord purchased a basic gas range for my home. When using the stove the first time, I turned the knob to light it. After a few seconds I realized that the knobs were not made like every other stove I have used - meaning the ignition is usually immediately next to the off position. This one is opposite. All 4 burners have the ignition at 180 degrees from the off position. Getting to that point releases gas (between off and lighting). If a child turns the knob (or someone accidentally does) gas will fill the room quickly before anyone realizes it. Clicking sound of the lighter does not occur until the 180 degree point. I am shocked that this range is legally on the market.

The product, in the report: Gas Range
The gas range was in normal use, with the oven on but no burners going. My wife was in another room and heard buzzing and popping sounds, and entered the kitchen to find the range smoking and with flames coming from the back left corner. She grabbed the fire extinguisher but the flames had subsided by that time. I arrived home from work about 3-4 minutes later and pulled the range out to disconnect the plug and turn off the gas service. I could see smoke and what appeared to be electrical arcing marks at the back left side where the electrical power cord entered the unit.
The next morning I removed the unit back and could see that the entire wiring harness was melted, plastic harness connectors had melted, and various wires were severed by the fire.

The product, in the report: Model # PGS975SEP3SS SERIAL # FZ250406Q Slide-in General Electric Gas Range ( explosion in oven)
November 9, 2018 at approximately 6pm my oven exploded and went on fire, scorching my kitchen cabinet.
Upon the General Electric technician examining the gas oven on November 14 , it was quite noticeable that only the burner area facing the igniter was black and damaged with holes from the explosion. Instead of the General Electric technician being accountable for the fire of my oven. The GE technician used the word “corrosion” for fire damage of the gas burner, and quoted me $300 for the fire damage of the gas burner. For gas standards I would expect a more durable material for a burner ( such as copper) This malfunction- explosion should have never occurred.
Luckily no one was near the Gas oven range. This is a safety issue, and needs to be escalated to revise the standards for Gas Appliance manufacturing.

The product, in the report: GE Cafe Stove model CGS990SET3SS I have saved 2 of the deflector shields that have holes blown threw them. Also, Troy Fire Dept responded to our home on 4/13/18.
For our GE Cafe Stove CGs990SET3SS, we have the igniter fail 4 times and it has burned a hole in the deflector plate on numerous occasions. it appears the igniter is too close to the deflector plate. The recent technician installed some type of modification. Then awe used it to cook a pizza and my CO carbon monoxide alarms went off in my house 3 times. We called the fire department ( Troy Fire Dept) on 4/13/18 and they told us to get out of the house. Upon their arrival, they found out that now the oven is not working properly and emitting Carbon monoxide gas. We called GE and the sent a technician to our home. He didn’t even take a look inside the unit. I had shutoff the gas line. There are numerous complaints within the websites on this problem. GE need to replace the entire oven. I feel very unsafe to operate this unit in my home.

The product, in the report: This is a 30” Gas Range
We have a GE Gas Range model # JVM6175EK1ES. Also, there is a GE microwave oven mounted above it. The problem we are having is the gas range burners being turned on when my wife puts something in the microwave. She is 5’2” and in order to reach the item in the microwave, she brushes up against the range burner knobs and they turn on. Sometimes just the igniter, and other times the gas lights. I am 6’0”, so I don’t have this problem. Did GE test their range below their microwave using only tall people? There are no lock detentes on the knobs, so it is also very easy for our grandsons to turn on the burners. This is definitely a safety hazard. I know our concern is not unique, as I see it is the number one complaint listed on the GE oven/range.

The product, in the report: 30” 5 burner gas range with double oven
I have a GE gas stove that is less than 2 years old and professionally installed in a new construction home. We had researched the stove (December 2015) and determined it would be a good purchase. This Thanksgiving, the lower stopped heating for some reason. My neighbor is a retired GE repairman and determined the ceramic ignitor was defective.
I ordered the correct factory replacement part and installed it. As I was installing the lower cover for the bottom oven, I noticed the tin heat shield was melted. There was about a 1 inch tear in the metal above the ignitor. The ignitor stays on while the gas bar is heating. It appears the ignitor is super heating the tin heat shield and making the metal molten. Is has caused the metal to droop and finally tear open. The tear now makes it easier for the metal to super heat and melt. I believe the drooping metal is what caused the ignitor to fail and crack.
I feel this is a design flaw on the part of GE. I have since researched my model of oven and found several other people are having this same issue. My concern is this is a fire hazard and this model should never have been approved for sale. I have had several homes over the last 30 years and never had this type of issue. In fact, those stoves lasted over 10 + years with no issues.

This letter is to inform you of a potential safety defect in my GE 30” Free-Standing Gas Range, model JGB428SERSS.
On at least six occasions, we have found that one of the burner control knobs had inadvertently been turned on enough to open the valve, perhaps by bumping into the knob, but not enough to ignite the flame. Yesterday, after we left the condo at 5:00 PM for an evening out, we returned at 10:15 PM to immediately notice the smell of gas upon entering the condo. I immediately looked at the range, and saw that one of the burner valves was slightly on.
Fortunately, I was able to air out our home with no adverse effects, but I am concerned about this issue.
I understand that the intent of the push-to-turn design on the valve is to prevent accidental opening of the gas valve, or opening by a small child. It is my assessment that it is just too easy to push the valve in to allow it to turn.

When I have the oven set to broil the gas builds up in the oven and the ignitor does not work and then when you open the door the oven essentially blows up. Flames come out of the oven.
I have had 2 technicians come out.
The first did nothing and the second did replace the ignitor and I still have the same problem.

One of the four burner knobs can be turned without needing to be pushed in first. This allows gas and/or igniter to turn on unintentionally if the knob is bumped.
So far this is only happening with the knob that has been used the most throughout the life of the range.
I first noticed this problem about a month ago, but it’s possible that it has existed longer.
I’ve arranged for repair at my expense since we have active pets.

Dear Mr. [REDACTED]
I purchased a General Electric gas range (JGS650SEFISS) on April 3. 2014 for $1,8 18.00. In July 2016 the oven was off and the door exploded shooting glass throughout my kitchen!!!! Fortunately, no one was in the kitchen, therefore, no injuries. Clearly you are aware of this happening and the potential danger. What is being done to protect a consumer?
To add insult to injury, upon immediately calling GE. I was informed they would send a technician to investigate the situation and that I would be charged. I was told I would also be charged for repair! I do not think so. I will not bore you with the details of my time and aggravation to get this situation resolved. After numerous persistent calls, I was finally put in touch with a professional young lady, [REDACTED]. The situation has now been resolved. I must admit it is frightening to use the oven and I am terrified to use the self-cleaning operation.
I am sending a copy of this letter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. I look forward to a response from you.
Sincerely

I was baking a potato in my GE gas range. The oven has been in the home since 1992. I went in the other room to read a magazine and then heard a loud boom and glass breaking. I went into the kitchen to see that my oven door had exploded. The glass was still popping on the ground even after the explosion. Thankfully I was waiting until my potato was closer to being ready before finishing the rest of the meal, or I would have been standing directly in front of the oven. The glass exploded pretty far, I am also thankful that my dog was not injured by the glass. Contacted GE, they sent a technician. Technician said “you got twice the life out of the unit.” It still works but we don’t have the glass available, and we can’t offer anything on a new one.

The product, in the report: gas range
The consumer states that all 4 burners turn “On” when the control knobs are slightly touched. The consumer has noticed a gas odor on many occasions and then upon checking the rang he would notice the control knob is slightly moved.
The consumer states that this has been happening since he purchased the range, approximately 2 years ago.
(4/1/14) The consumer contacted the firm shortly after he purchased the range to inform them about his safety concerns and the consumer was advised that his range was safe.
The consumer is still having this problem and does not feel the range is safe. The consumer believes the range poses a safety hazard and could cause his family to get CO poisoning. The consumer has not recently contacted the firm because he believes they will not assist him.
The consumer contacted the Consumer Protection Office and they referred him to CPSC.
It is a general electric range. The malfunction is the fact that if you hit anyone of the control knob burners, that burner gives off gas and the igniter is not on.

The product, in the report: MONOGRAM PRORANGE
Description of hazardous incident and safety concerns: During normal use of operation, on 12/7/2015 it was noticed that the porcelain oven liner in our GE Monogram range which was put in use in March 2014, was flaking off in 2 areas and leaving small glass shards on the bottom of the oven. They are very sharp and vary in size from approximately .5” long x .OS” wide down to small grains (see pictures of samples and some areas involved). When wiping these areas one of the pieces penetrated the cloth and stuck a finger like a sliver. Since then we now wear gloves to protect our hands when cleaning as each time the oven is used new porcelain slivers are found scattered around the bottom of the oven- not just adjacent to the 4 current areas (two new since 12/7/2015) where the porcelain has flaked off. In addition to our hands, we are extremely concerned that the glass shards will contaminate our food baked in the oven due to the fact they are found throughout the oven floor as noted above. We have stopped using the convection bake for fear the fan will distribute the slivers even to the upper racks. GE was notified on 12/8/2015 of the problem. Many discussions since that date with a GE representative has only resulted in them claiming it is nothing more than a “cosmetic issue” and they deny our safety concerns and also the fact that we are forced to wear gloves when wiping out the oven. We did not do anything to cause the problem as we have not applied anything to the porcelain other than the manufacturers recommended materials. In fact we have not even used the self- cleaning function since installation and do not know what effect that high temperature would do to the suspect coating. The porcelain coating is obviously defective yet they refuse to acknowledge that fact. The range is still under warranty but we’ve been told by an appliance tech that the liner is non replaceable.

This oven has 3 panes of glass (an outer glass, middle glass and an inner glass). The middle glass shattered, but the outer and the inner glass remained intact. There is stainless on the door, which surrounds the glass. The glass broke into tiny pieces small as pebbles and others were larger and stuck together. There were no injuries.
2/21/2016: The consumer called the mfr. and spoke with their repair department. An appointment was scheduled for a tech to come out and look at the range on Wed-2/24/16. The consumer was told that she had to pay $99.95 for the service call and cover parts and labor.
2/22/2016: The consumer followed up with the mfr. and spoke with Chanbria, (Tel: 800-386-1215 x. 3683). The consumer was assigned a case # [REDACTED]. Chanbria waived the $99.95 service charge call and offered approx. 25% off of the parts. The consumer told her that was a start, but she did not want to pay anything. Chanbria told the consumer that she was not authorized to offer any further discounts and indicated that the consumer could discuss her concerns with the technician that is scheduled to come out on Wed-2/24. The consumer asked why more could not be offered more, because this was clearly a defect. The consumer said that Chanbria indicated that they did not have anything on record. Nothing else transpired.
The consumer believes that this presents oven presents a safety hazard and that there is potential for a similar incident with the upper oven door. Chanbria told the consumer that she could discuss this concern with the technician, when he came out.

The product, in the report: Duel fuel natural gas range, electric oven’s. 30inch width stainless steel. ModelP2B918SEM3SS.
My safety concern is for a General Electric range we own.It is in the igniter system for the burners on the stove. It was purchased in Dec 2010. We have had 3 service calls 2 in 2013 and 1 in 2015.. The range had a 5 year warranty which is now expired. The igniter on the right front burner only works about 1 in 10 times..when it was repaired it would work for a time and then it won’t. I haven’t checked on an recalls for this range Model P2B918SEM3SS. When the igniter does’ work natural gas escapes. I contacted the local GE dealer and GE customer support and was told I would have to pay for repairs. I told them it is a safety problem when a range won’t lite when you try to use it. It has been an ongoing problem for 3 years.

Hurt, care not known Made Dec 3, 2015, sent to the company Dec 11, 2015, published by CPSC Dec 28, 2015
The product, in the report: Black GE gas stove/oven range
The black GE gas oven/stove range was put in the townhouse by the builder, so it’s probably contractor grade. Model #: JGBP28DEM988, Serial #: HV553453P. I’ve had the range for 4 yrs and have used the stove and oven to cook things, but have never used the self-cleaning mode. On Nov. 29, 2015, I decided to use that mode. I followed the instructions in the user manual. After a few minutes, a terrible smell started. I thought maybe it would burn off after awhile. The instructions said to vent a window. Well, the toxic odor got so bad that I had all of the windows and doors open and fans on in the house and it still wasn’t helping! Mind you, it was 30 degrees outside at the time! There were no items in the oven at the time, so nothing was burning or melting. The smell was extremely TOXIC– chemical-like. I can’t stress that enough. Not melting plastic smelling but bad like it. I started getting a bad headache and terrible nausea and tight breathing. I turned off the oven after about 2 hours (I should’ve done it far sooner!), and couldn’t last the entire 4 hour self-cleaning process time. I still worry that I may have waited too long and caused serious damage to myself and my small dog. I looked online and couldn’t find a recall on this model number. I did find many complaints similar to mine about the toxic odor and also about the lack of response from GE for those who called to complain. GE just gave the generic response that there may be an odor.

The product, in the report: Gas Range
The igniter on my GE stove (model number JGS968T0H3WW) has a wiring defect that caused the plastic wire harness and wires to melt. If the stove hadn’t shorted out, I think it would have caused a fire. GE denies that this is a safety issue.
I did some research and see that many models of GE stoves from this same year (2004) have already been recalled for safety issues related to wiring. I think the recall should be expanded to include my model.

No one hurt Made Aug 25, 2015, sent to the company Sep 2, 2015, published by CPSC Nov 10, 2015
The product, in the report: 30 inch gas ränge freestanding Model number: JGBS23BEA3WH Serial number: DA140595P
Freestanding 30” GE Range installed in my kitchen caught fire, without any prior warning incident, at 3:00 AM February 10, 2015. Subject product is Model Number JGBS23BEA3WH, Serial No. DA 140595P. Purchased New from Home Depot, Newbury Park, CA. I am reporting the following hazard and consequent event. This range is in the similar model and manufacturing category as the recalled Dual Fuel Range, recalled in 2009 after numerous fire events.
This Freestanding Range, although apparently not the subject of the recall, nevertheless has a similar wiring harness defect.
The defective wiring harness is immediately next to the gas inlet pipe and the valve body and Regulator assembly. This harness overheated, the resulting short circuit caused sparking and/or arcing that eventually pierced an aluminum gas pipe. This circumstance was confirmed by a licensed professional cause and origin investigator engaged by my insurer, State Farm. The investigator is Reliant Investigations of Rancho Cucamonga, California, the principal of the investigating firm is [REDACTED]. The investigators in this firm are CFI and CFEI certified. Contact information is as follows: Address: [REDACTED] Rancho Cucamonga CA 91730
Phone [REDACTED] Email [REDACTED]
They conducted the investigation at the request of the State Farm adjusters who, incidentally, have since declined coverage, another issue which itself is most likely a potential consumer complaint.
The investigators took custody if the range as evidence, examined the appliance and the fire scene, photo-documented the investigation, prepared their report which was submitted to State Farm. Due to my insurer’s denial, I was able to have custody of the evidence range returned to me. And I have obtained a copy of the full report by Reliant, who indicates there have been at least a half dozen more similar fires involving the same or equivalent model of GE ranges since my loss: a defective wiring harness overheats and causes the range to catch fire. This model that I own is not the recalled dual fuel model that was the subject of the CPSC fine excised against GE on February 19, 2015. However, Reliant Investigations states the defective wiring harness is either identical or virtually similar, and in their recent experience causes serious fires.
In my situation, the fire began in the lower left rear area of the range, directly adjacent to the gas inlet piping and valve body, ignition of gas leaking from the damaged pipe was by the short-circuited defective wiring harness, which also caused the initial gas leak. The fire, fueled by a pressurized propane source, created a torch event that set fire to surrounding wood cabinetry and overhead hoods and cabinets. That ensuing gas torch-fed fire then fully engulfed the residence’s kitchen, which fortunately was separated from the other rooms in the residence by 5/8” fire stop gypsum board walls and ceilings, and solid core wood doors, which were closed.
Upon awakening to the smoke and heat alarms, the building was safely exited by my tenants, two elderly persons, who despite the building being filled with acrid choking smoke, were able to escape. I heard cries for help, as the subject building is a 3 bedroom, accessory building guest house, part of my residential property in Malibu, CA. I was able to observe the extent of fire, called 911 and then attempted to knock down or control the fire until the fire department arrived. The kitchen, a 16 foot x 18 foot space with 11 foot ceilings was fully involved, but due to the closed doors and windows was somewhat oxygen starved. Opening the lower half of an exterior double hung window did not, very fortunately, cause a blowback, and I was able to successfully knock down most of the fire before LA County Fire arrived. They suppressed the smoldering remaining cabinets and kitchen foodstuffs, opened the walls and ceilings and removed the charred wood elements and the range and hood. They also shut the gas supply, removed the flex pipe and removed two fully burned duplex outlets and protected the exposed wiring with wire nuts.
Reliant Investigation’s report concludes the GE range is both the cause and origin, and they state they are experiencing numerous similar fires caused by the same or similar GE model, all manufactured in Mexico, which are apparently not the subject of the 30” dual fuel range implicated in the February 19 fine against GE, but they appear equally hazardous.
I am now seeking settlement of a significant 5 figure claim from GE, but report this event to suggest the CPSC examine all models of the GE 30” Free Standing Ranges.
Were it not for the fact that I was able to put nothing more than a garden hose on the fire, but to have successfully knocked it down through a pushed-out window, the local LA County Fire Department Captain observed that such quick action had saved the building from total involvement, and he estimated that the fire was perhaps no more than 30 seconds from escaping the kitchen and burning the entire building to the ground, especially considering the time LACFD required to arrive on scene, and to lay hose from the nearest hydrant. In fact the most significant aspect of LACFD emergency response was to shut of the gas at the outside valve, use heat imaging to look for smoulders and place an exhaust fan to vacate the smoke.
I have a copy of Reliant Investigations examination and concluding report as well as extensive on-scene photographs which I will make available to the CPSC upon request.
I have contacted GE and their liability carrier, Electric Insurance, to initiate a settlement claim.

The product, in the report: Self-Cleaning, Gas Range GE The consumer would like to add here that the first oven she received could not be set up as flames were coming out of the burners uncontrolled when the tech hooked it up. He shut it down & they delivered another range (Same product delivered second time after malfunction)
06/15/2013 (Approximately) - Since this time, the control panel to the unit shuts down and goes black, turning off the displays to the range. The consumer has to unplug and re-plug the not for it to start up again. The consumer called GE & they said she must have gotten the control panel wet.
02/15/2015 (Approximately) - The consumer was cooking some food and left the kitchen. When she came back approximately thirty minutes later, she noticed the control panel had shut itself down but the burner she was using was still emitting flames. The consumer finished cooking her food but tried to turn on the remainder of the burners and was unsuccessful. When the consumer finished cooking, she unplugged and plugged the unit back on and the control panel and everything came back on and functioned properly. She did not try to put oven on due to concerns w/ range functioning.
The consumer indicates that if she is cooking on the stove and the control panel shuts off, the burners still work. Or at least they did prior to 2/15/2015 incident.
04/15/2015 (Approximate) The consumer was pre-heating her oven at 350 degrees (bake) and approximately five minutes later, the consumer noticed that the oven had completely shut itself off because the control panel shut off as well. The consumer proceeded to turn the oven on again and it stayed on for approximately ten minutes before shutting off again. The consumer tried this a couple more times but ended up with the same outcome. The consumer no longer uses her oven. The consumer is too scared to use oven self-clean feature due to poor product functioning.
The consumer indicates that if she happens to have the oven on and the control panel shuts off, the oven will shut off as well.
06/01/2015 (Approximately) The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained all the issues she has been having with her kitchen range. The representative informed her that they would not be able to send a Service Technician to inspect her unit for over a week. She contacted a local third-party Service Technician to inspect her unit. Who charged to consumer $146.00. After inspection, he informed the consumer that the problem was most likely that her control panel was defective. It would cost her several hundred dollars to get her unit fixed. Everything else checked out fine. Control panel controls entire product function so the consumer would not say all else is fine.
The consumer believes this product poses a safety hazard. The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer does not plan on contacting the manufacturer again. There is no one to discuss or advise on product. Only people who send techs out at huge fee.
The consumer lives in a co-op w/ other apartments & is concerned about general property safety.

The product, in the report: GE GAS RANGE
On or about Jan. 06, 2015, we were cooking on our GE gas range. During the activation of the front burner, we witnessed a popping sound with the stove, causing the power to go out with the stove. We had to reset the breaker. We tried the stove again, but the burner was not working and a strong smell of gas was being detected. We gave the stove one more try, but now a strong smell of burning rubber was detected. At this point, we called Sears for service. Our product was still under warranty, in fact it was only 6 months old. The technician discovered a burnt wire in one of the burners and later replaced the wire. So far, we continue to use the stove and no further problems have occurred. The model# is JGV650SEF1SS and the serial# is TA130085P.

The product, in the report: Black on black freestanding gas stove/oven with self cleaning feature.
While deep cleaning our kitchen my wife had wiped down the front of the gas range with a wet rag. To be clear, no chemicals or abrasive materials were used on the glass of the oven like the manual instructs. Approximately fifteen minutes later the outer glass of the oven door just short of exploded without any kind of contact to cause the incident. The oven was not heating or cooling since it had not been used for about a week before the incident. My wife was standing about three feet away from the oven and I was standing even further away. Luckily, no one was hurt, but if my wife had not been wearing house shoes and pajama pants, who knows if she would have been hurt. In short, the outer tempered glass of the oven door basically “exploded” for no apparent reason at all.

The product, in the report: General Electric Gas Range (GE-JGB630DEFWW)
I purchased a new General Electric Gas Range (GE-JGB630DEFWW) on January 25, 2014. Installation was not completed until March 25, 2014. My concern is that the knobs on this range turn too easily, and when I reach over the range on the left or right cabinets to retrieve items, the knobs turn on. This has not YET resulted in injury to me, but I have done this 4-5 times now and the burners actually have ignited without my intent. This could easily result in my clothing catching on fire and causing severe injury or even death, as I live alone. Please look into this design. I am contacting General Electric with this information and am requesting that they not only replace this range, but more importantly, that they look into re-engineering the design of the knobs in order to prevent injury to consumers in general.

The consumer stated that five years ago, he noticed that the igniter on the middle burner had failed. So, he stopped using it. He stated that there is a potential hazard because of the erratic flame pattern in the burner.
(02/10/2014) The consumer contacted GE to tell them about the problem. GE offered to send someone to inspect the burner.
(02/11/2014) The inspector came out and stated that the tubing in the orifice misaligned with the central burner causing incomplete combusting, overheating of the cook top area and burning of electrode wiring beneath the cook top surface. The inspector reported this information back to GE.
(02/ 13/2014) The consumer contacted GE. He was offered a rebate. He asked GE if they would report his concerns to CPSC. He was advised that they would not.
The consumer is not sure how he will proceed at this time.

I HAVE GE GAS RANGE MODEL PGB918SEM4SS. THE BURNER KNOBS TURN ON VERY EASILY AND SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE NOTICED GAS IN THE ROOM AS A RESULT OF INADVERTANT BRUSHING UP AGAINST THE KNOB. AFTER AN INTERNET SEARCH I FIND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WIDELY REPORTED. I LOOKED IN AN APPLIANCE STORE THIS WEEK, AND THE CURRENT GE GAS RANGES HAVE SAFETY KNOBS WHICH MUST BE PUSHED IN BEFORE TURNING.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Range
We own a GE Profile Gas Range model #JGB920SEF2SS serial # ZF225463P
On approximately July 24, 2013 the self cleaning function was run for only the second time since owning the oven. The temperatures reach 1100-1200 degrees. During this function the control panel burned out and the front of the oven was slightly blackened. The oven no longer functioned at all.
A GE technician performed the repair which I paid for and they supplied the parts.
Shortly after this repair the oven started acting unusual : the temperatures were obviously much higher than indicated on the control panel , particularly when the broil setting was used. The oven became extremely hot as never before. Eventually the oven door locked and would not open .
After following the instructions below , the situation became worse as the oven now makes a loud grinding noise. The oven is non-functioning at all , after experiencing situations that could have caused a fire.
Hello Mr. [REDACTED], I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue with your range. I am happy to offer my assistance. Please review the following suggestions below to see if this will resolve the issue. Range - Oven Door Won’t Unlock
Do not force the latch/door at any time.
The Oven Door has been Locked Accidentally:
· If there is food in the oven, let the oven cool to room temperature and try to unlatch the door.
· If no food or utensils are in the oven, start a self-clean cycle, then hit Clear/Off after 60 seconds. If that does not unlock the door, run a short self-clean cycle (1-2 hours).
· With electronic ranges there is a small chance that turning the circuit breaker off for a few minutes and turning it back on can release the door latch to the “off”.
If the above suggestions do not resolve this issue, please provide me with a few choice dates and timeframes and I will waive the home call charge so we can have your unit diagnosed by one of our GE authorized service technicians. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

The product, in the report: General Electric “Adora” Gas Range
In November 2012 we purchased a General Electric “Adora” Gas Range, installed by Home Depot. Model Number: JGB605SET2SS Serial Number: VZ200406P Made in: Mexico
This range has an Oven, and also five (5) gas burners for cooking. There are five (5) burner controls on the front of the range. Each of them, if turned on, actuates the electronic starter to ignite the gas flame. However, if the controls are turned (CCW) too quickly, the ignition does NOT occur but the gas is actuated to the burner. Each of these conrtols must be pushed, before turning them in the CCW direction to use the gas burners.
Our issue is with the two controls which activate the two REAR burners. These seem to require nearly NO pressure to indent, rotate and engage the burners. On Friday, 7/19/2013, I entered the kitchen and smelled gas. The stove had the control for the RIGHT REAR burner rotated about 45 degrees CCW and gas was flowing, but there was NO flame!
Investigation revealed that another household member had used the Microwave (mounted as a Range Hood above the stove) and apparently had leaned against the front of the stove, inadvertently activating the right rear burner so quickly as to not have the electrical spark ignition! In my opinion, this gas release could have resulted in a major household explosion if any detonation sparks had occurred after a longer time (if undiscovered).
As a short-term solution, I have fabricated plastic ‘inserts’ to fit beneath the two Rear Burner controls which prevent them from being ‘pushed’ until the inserts are removed.
In my opinion, the manufacturer should change the design of these “push-to-activate” controls such that a much stronger spring requires considerably greater pressure to activate the gas burners!

The product, in the report: General Electric black gas range, model number JGB281DERBB
I purchased a GE JGB281DERBB gas range in October of 2012. From the very first day, the flame on the back right burner completely cuts out, leaving no flame and a house full of gas. There have been several occasions when I inadvertently had my house fill with gas because the back right burner loses its flame at the lowest setting.
I had to wait for the City of Alexandria to inspect the installation of this range to insure that it was not a faulty installation that caused this problem. The City inspector came in April and determined that the installation was fine. The inspector also observed the problem with the back right burner losing its flame at the lowest setting and noted this on his report.
A General Electric repairman came to observe the problem, and he did observe that the back right burner did indeed lose its flame at the lowest setting. The repairman ordered a new regulator and installed it on July 8. 2013. This did not solve the problem. He claimed that there is a problem with the gas pressure in the house. I don’t fully buy that theory and think that this product is dangerous.

The product, in the report: GE Gas (Propane) Range Model JGBS18
We purchased a GE Model JGBS18 Gas (Propane) range in December of 2011 from our Home Depot Store. Twice this last year we returned home to find the house full of gas! Investigating found that one of the stove top control knobs had been placed in the on position. Not sure if this occured due to cleaning procedures that bumped the knob or other. All gas ranges that we have had in the past would not allow gas flow until flame was confirmed. This is not the case with this appliance. I am concerned for our safety and would like your response as to if this is something that is allowed in the industry or a possible oversight in this design.
Thank you for your response.

GE Kitchen Range Model #JGB281SER3SS Serial #FY216453P Case #[REDACTED] Purchased 04/26/2012 At D&D Ace Hardware, LaGrange, TX
Product was being used as a cook stove, burners would light about 1/2 way and then blow out. Burner was replaced 3 different times by technician from the store. On the last visit, 08/06/2012, range would not stay lit and we smelled gas. The manufacturer (General Electric), was called on Wednesday, 08/08/2012 and we were told by “[REDACTED]” to no longer use the range and informed us that we would be called by “[REDACTED]”. We waited for a call one was never received until Thursday, 08/09/2012 and REDACTED tried to chew me out about calling so much, I had made exactly two calls to GE at that time. We finally called the store manager where we bought it and told him to come pick it up. GE was adamant about not giving us credit for the range and would not return our money. The store manager was kind enough to give most of our money back in a store credit. We will never knowingly buy another GE product although since they make so many products that might be hard to avoid. This stove is a definite fire hazard and should be taken off the market.

On 3/14/2012 the consumer put her oven on self clean. (approximately 450 to 500 degrees.)
Once the oven locked automatically the entire glass front of the oven door fell onto the floor.
When she purchased the stove there was double edge adhesive tape at the bottom of the glass front, sellers instructed the owner that it would dissolve as they continued to use the stove.
There were no injuries associated with the incident.
The manufacturer was contacted 4/10/2012 appointment was set for a technician to come out.
Technician arrived a few days later and after replacing the glass front with exactly the same glass with the same double adhesive tape, he advised her that everything was operating accordingly.
Unsatisfied with the repair and advice from the technician on 4/12/2012, caller contacted the manufacturer again on 5/7/2012. Another technician was sent out 5/14/2012.
The technician that came out on 5/14/2012 took her statement, said he would submit to his superiors but they have yet to discuss a replacement glass or unit.
The consumer believes the product is unsafe due to poor design and the adhesive used.
The consumer was also concerned that due to the front of the stove being all glass that this incident could potentially have injured someone in her home if they were close enough.

My two-year-old lit our gas kitchen stove. I was only 2 feet away making lunch when he pushed the knob in and turned it. I don’t know how long the gas was on until he turned it far enough for the pilot light to click and light it. There were paper food boxes near by that could have easily caught. It’s so stupid that they still make stoves with knobs on the front where kids can turn them instead of having knobs by the back splash, seems like such a no-brainer. I think the “push then turn” feature is supposed to be a safety feature, but was easily defeated the first time I’ve ever seen him touch it. It is a GE brand, but I don’t know much about it because we are renting this home and have no paperwork on it. I do know it’s newer because this home was just built in 2011.

The product, in the report: GE Self Cleaning Gas Ranges, Model#JGBS180DET1BB. We have five ranges, five seriel numbers
We are a 1st Class RV Resort with over 413 sites. We recently replaced five trailers, that we rent out to guests. They are Breckenridge Lifeline furnished trailers. They came equipped with GE Self Cleaning Gas Ranges, Model JGBS180DET1BB, Propane. The ranges have electronic ignitions. Twice last week the burner control knobs were inadvertently, and unknowingly bumped, which caused the propane to leak and fill the trailer with propane gas. Our staff was alerted when the Propane alarm in the trailer went off. To their surprise, they found the trailer completely filled with propane. The trailer could have exploded at any minute, causing human loss of life and property, not only to the trailer itself, but to nearby RV’s and trailers as well. The potential liability here is goes way beyond five ranges in what could be a disastrous domino effect throughout the park.
Our propane distributor advised us that unless you turn the burner control knobs all the way up, until you hear a clicking sound, then back to the desired flame level, the units will leak into the trailer. He also stated that there is a law suit in Wisconsin whereby a family was killed when their trailer exploded due to this exact condition. I am unable to verify this. Breckenridge trailers has referred me to GE, maker of the range. GE does not have a warning or recall on this product at present. The product literature does not advise the consumer to turn the control knobs all the way up, nor are their any stickers, labels on the ranges alluding to this problem.
Any input or assistance you can provide on this matter will be greatly appreciated. At present, our business is looking at having to replace all five of the ranges at our own expense, but one that will ensure the lives and property of our guests.

On 12 -30-2008 when using oven to my GE Proflile Gas Slide in Range allowing oven to preheat at 350 degrees about 20 minutes the bottom of oven door blew out with flames coming out, I open the oven’s main door and flames were shooting out, I shut the door and switched the oven to off position but the flames were still coming out when opening the door. I then went to main gas shut it off there. I called the retailer Home Depot in Cadillac, MI. told them what happen they advised me to contact Ford Electronic and Appliance from Lake City, MI. that they were certified to work on GE Appliance, also that there were no GE company with technician in our area. Ford Electronic came to my home on 1~5-2009 to replaced a valve and ignitor. On 8-04-2010 while baking a casserole on 350 degrees I opened the oven door and flames came out cinching my bangs ( hair on my fore head) my husband was in living room and heard the poof sound of extra gas that came out of oven, then came out to see what was going on. We turned off the oven. Called Ford Electronic from Lake City, MI. ,they came to our home 8-19-2010. Replace safety valve the same kind as before. On 12-25-2011 I put oven on at 350 degrees noticed there was no heat at all the oven would not work. The top of the gas range did work. Called Ford Electronic from Lake City, MI. they came to our home 12-27-2011 replaced ignitor the same kind as before. But the technician said there was an upgrade ignitor and hope that will work, the technician said that something was going on for them to upgrade there part. I contacted GE Corp. I was giving a number to call to their GE consumer Relations 1-800-386-1215 talked to 2 different people there on tel . She said the only thing they would do was offered to let me buy another stove at a percent off. I would pay about $963.18 for the stove and they would take my stove out and they would keep it. I told her I was out of work and did not have the money to do that and keep up with my house payments, and I thought with the same parts going out and with a new upgrade part, that my stove or their parts was a lemon. I ask to talk to a manger. I then was given to manager, we talk about everything, the parts replace new upgrade on parts. I could not afford new stove. He said since they were no GE technician in our area that the parts or labor he would not approved it to be paid. I told him it not my fault that GE did not have someone in this area they sell all their appliance in our area. I really tried to talk to him, ask to talk to someone higher than him , he said that he was the last person I could talk. I would be happy with them as there are new upgraded parts in my stove to keep it and have them pay for Parts and Labor.

General Electric model no. JGBP28MEM7BS Electric Ignition Model Knob pose a danger to children and adults. The knob can easily move from the OFF position and gas starts to be released into the area.
My mother (a senior with diminishing senses) was putting away the food on the stove. She must’ve accidentally leaned on it or moved or brushed against the knob. She goes off to watch her soap and about 20 minutes later or so I go into the kitchen and since I have an over sensitive sense of smell I immediately smelled the gas and when I looked at the stove I noticed one of the knobs was just slightly out of the OFF position. I immediately turned it all the way to off, turned on the vent, of which I see in the apartments it goes no where except back in. Managed to turn on the stove to let the fire burn whatever was around. I know, after thinking about it now it could’ve blown up on my if there had been enough gas in the air, but I panicked. I went towards the windows near my mom and the smell of gas was there too, but my mom did not even notice.
I shudder to think what would’ve happened to her and she had gone to sleep with that gas going.
With the knobs in the front any small child can touch and move those knobs. I would like to request a recall of these stoves too as they pose a danger to all homes and families. It was manufactured in MEXICO in 2003 from what I could find.
Thank you for your help. PS - This is not my home but my mom’s apartment.

The product, in the report: General Electric Hotpoint Gas Range
RE: General Electric Hotpoint gas range model: RGA720 EK3WH serial:VTI01026A
Reference range was purchased on 20 December 2010 and put into service in early December 2010. On or about 21 December 2011 the oven would not maintain temperature. When turned on the oven would come up to the set temperature then shut off. After 3 or 4 tries, we shut off the oven and took our dog for a walk. Upon our return we smelled something hot. The oven was in an uncontrolled burn with the control knob in the off position. The only way to shut the oven off was to disconnect the electric cord. It took two service calls, first on 29 December when the technician verified the condition, but had no service part. A second service technician replaced the thermostat on 05 January 2012 and the oven returned to normal operation. My concern is the failure mode was an uncontrollable oven, even with the oven control set to the off position. This failure mode is both a safety hazard and a fire hazard. In the 13 months between our purchase of this range and the oven failure, the range and oven received little use as we split our time approximately 50/50 between Florida and a Northern state.

The consumer was cleaning the wall next to the back burners of the range. The consumer said that she had to lean on the front burners slightly, in order to reach the wall behind the rangetop and the back of the rangetop. She said that when she leaned on the front burners, it is possible that the front burners turned on, but did not make the clicking noise.
The consumer said that she heard a big explosion and she immediately moved away from the stove. She saw large flames coming from the top left side burners, but the flames died out right away on their own.
The consumer said that the explosion occurred below the stove and damaged the cabinet underneath the rangetop. The incident caused the front left side burners to bend.
There were no injuries. However, all of the items located on the top shelf, directly underneath the rangetop were damage. The consumer said that all of these items were ruined.

The product, in the report: GE Hotpoint Oven/Range Gas, Serial Number RB757BH5WH, Serial Number TS200659R
Dear Consumer Commission, I purchased a GE Hotpoint Range Serial Number RB757BH5WH in Greenville South Carolina for my Mother in Law in November 2009. The warranty has expired, but two days ago the glass door exploded and cause bodily injury to my Mother in Law. She had to be treated at emergency center at a local hospital. The range was purchase at Home Depot, my concern is not have this product repaired but totally replaced in lieu of the warranty expiration. This is not a wear and tear issue but a life safety issue based on what appears to be faulty appliances, please advise what can we do? I reported the incident to GE and they have agreed to send a technical representative to inspect the oven range and repair if possible and/or completely replace it. I personally feel that this product should be totally replaced, it has already exploded and replacing the oven door does not address the reason for the previous combustion.
