The product, in the report: GE Profile double oven gas range (Model PGS960YPFS, Serial VA373711)
I purchased a brand new GE Profile double oven gas range (Model PGS960YPFS) in December 2025. Within the first month of use, I noticed a persistent gas odor emanating from the upper oven during operation, not just at ignition, but throughout use. The odor was confirmed by a gas detector and reproduced in front of GE service technicians on multiple occasions. Over the course of five service visits spanning three months, GE replaced the safety valve and both igniters. Neither repair resolved the issue. During this process, a technician confirmed that the igniters were positioned too far from the gas opening, consistent with a factory assembly defect. Visible insulation in the vent area was also confirmed by a technician as abnormal. As of March 31, 2026, the gas odor in the upper oven persists. The technician documented a strong gas odor during today’s visit. Additionally, a new finding was made - some gas is not fully burning off at ignition in the lower oven, a symptom I have been experiencing for several weeks that is worsening and was confirmed by the technician today. GE initially advised me not to use the range at all. Following the first service visit, I was told I could use the burners and lower oven but to monitor for gas odor and not use the upper oven. I have complied with this restriction for over two months. I keep a gas detector running whenever I use the appliance. I have minor children in the home. A sixth service visit is scheduled for April 14 to replace the pressure regulator. However, given the persistence and worsening of the symptoms, the confirmed assembly defect, and the involvement of both oven cavities, I am concerned this represents a systemic safety issue with this unit or model.

The product, in the report: GE Profile 30” Built-In Gas Downdraft Cooktop
GE Profile 30” Built-In Gas Downdraft Cooktop exploded and burnt my front arm (inner side) on Friday, February 13th, around 5:30 PM.
Initially, I didn’t feel the burn. Then it felt like sunburn. Unfortunately, the burnt area on my arm is turning purple. I will visit my doctor tomorrow if it worsens.
About the reason, most likely the stove kept the gas inside the hole where the button is. After reaching a certain temperature or pressure, it spouted the gas and fire when I was turning the switch on.
Please take necessary actions to prevent any injuries or harm to others.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Gas Stove
My son and his girlfriend were heating up minestrone soup in the microwave, located above our GE profile gas stovetop. As his girlfriend removed the soup from the microwave, it was very hot, causing her to spill a little (roughly 1/4 cup). Some of the liquid spilled onto the stovetop. The stove was not being used at the time, and all burners were in the off position. Some liquid that spilled onto the stove’s surface went underneath the nobs, located on the top, center of the stove. As that happened, fire exploded out from the top center burner. I immediately unplugged the unit and dried the spillage. We allowed the unit to sit overnight. In the morning, my husband ensured that all liquid was dried. He attempted to turn the stovetop on, and a fire started, affecting the back center and back right burners. Again, the initial explosion with flames occurred while all burners were in the “off” position. Model: GE Profile Model Number: JGP963SEK2SS Serial Number: TT700693Q

Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 11, 2025, sent to the company Nov 19, 2025, published by CPSC Dec 4, 2025
The product, in the report: GE Profile Gas Slide-in range, 30”, model #PGS930YPFS
This report concerns a GE Profile 30 gas range, purchased on February 21, 2025, which presents a significant burn and fire safety hazard. Despite multiple service visits and documentation of the issues, GE Appliances has not taken corrective action and maintains that the product works as designed.
A screw was violently ejected from the appliance during the first oven use, hitting the opposite wall of the kitchen (15 feet away) with force. The original oven rack did not fit properly, caused interior damage, and posed a serious burn hazard (the rack needed force to move and released suddenly). GEs recommended remedy was to apply vegetable oil as a lubricant inside the oven cavity, which is unsafe and unsuitable for high-heat environments. They replaced the original rack, but still recommend use of vegetable oil for sticking on the new rack. When the oven operates at 400F, the cooktop and grates reach between 330F and 378F, measured using both infrared and digital thermometers while all burners were off. I have documented these readings in photos and video.
According to UL 858 (Standard for Household Electric Ranges), incidental-contact temperature limits are approximately 208F for metal, 227F for porcelain or enamel, and 249F for glass. The temperatures recorded on this unit exceed those limits by more than 100F, even when only the oven is active.
GE technicians refused to verify compliance with UL 858, and the company responded by saying the unit is as working as designed, later placing the complaints in standby status with no corrective action or further investigation. This demonstrates a disregard for consumer safety and a potential systemic design flaw in this product line.
During normal use, I sustained a hand burn from a sheet pan that had been resting on the cooktop while the oven was operating, confirming that oven venting heat levels are unsafe for incidental contact. This hazard exists during routine, expected use of the appliance and poses ongoing risk to consumers.
I am submitting this complaint for investigation and review under federal product safety standards.

The product, in the report: GE Profile - 6.8 Cu. Ft. Frestanding Double Oven Gas True Convection Range with No-Preheat Air Fry - Stainless Steel; 47 & 1/4 H, 30 W, 29 & 1/4 D; converted w/manufacturer-provided conversion kit to LP
I had set the lower oven on Bake at 400 for 30 minutes to burn off any manufacturers chemicals on my newly installed GE Profile Double Oven Freestanding Range with doors open for ventilation. About an hour later, the alarms began to sound. Our alarm monitoring company called to tell us to evacuate due to carbon monoxide. The alarm company phoned the Fire Department for us while we evacuated. The Fire Department measured the CO level coming from the top oven and found the levels to be over 250 ppm. They reported that this was the highest level of CO output that they had ever seen. We were told by the Fire Department not to use this appliance at all. They ventilated the house using fans and found CO levels throughout the house including the most distant rooms from the source.

The product, in the report: GE Profile 36 inch gas cooktop in white, model JGP636WEV7WW
While cooking dinner on January 28, 2024 the large tempered glass surface on our gas cooktop exploded, sending shards of sharp glass all over our kitchen. I contacted GE Appliances about this problem, and within the response they gave was that “Glass can break for a number of reasons. Under thermal stress, scratches or chips (which could be caused by consumer misuse).” To me, that is an unacceptable response. Thermal stress is going to be inherently present in an appliance like a cooktop. The design choice to use tempered glass on it is irresponsible and unsafe.

No one hurt Made Nov 1, 2021, sent to the company Nov 19, 2021, published by CPSC Dec 6, 2021
The product, in the report: GE Profile Dual Fuel Range / Model Number P2B940SEJSS / 30 inch / Stainless Steel / Serial Number AS189548P. Made in Mexico.
March 2021 homeowners purchased a GE Profile Dual-Fuel Range Model P2B940SEJSS. Although multiple issues with range since purchase, 2 issues prompted this reporting. (1) flames approximately 8”(+) high from burner. Since the Service Rep came over, the burner delivers gas and does not ignite normally, but if left on long enough, erupts in what looks like a ball of fire. We (family members) no longer turn this burner on or try to use use it because of risk of fire starting and/or person getting burned). The underside of burner is blackened which shows the flame pattern (and may indicate intensity of the fire). (2) the oven racks are coated with a substance that comes off as a powder residue when rack is slid. Risk is the powder residue being ingested by getting into the food. We do not slide the rack and cover food to avoid food contamination. Rack issue has been known since March 2021. The burner issue that poses risk of fire first happened in September (and did not get resolved). We have been trying to get the GE Range returned as a defective item and get a refund for many months. Since there have been multiple issues since purchase, chose to enter the month of the most recent incident (burner issue) in #2 below. The day is the estimate.
Report updated 1/27/22: As of today January 27, 2022, we have specifics about the causes of the still unresolved issue. These are items I thought may be more helpful and of interest to CPSC - especially in that the latest indicator is the GE Range we purchased was built with an incorrect part (i.e., are any more out there like ours?).
Picture 20220127_130643 (item on the right) (This is one of the reasons I prepared report [REDACTED].) A finding - The tube that delivers gas to the front-left burner (the power burner) had a break in it (see bottom end of tube near the attachment). Gas coming out of the break in the line was igniting and flames were coming out in an uncontrolled fashion from underneath the burner rather than through the burner. This part was replaced January 11, 2022 and the flames do go through the burner now. However, the flames continue to be uncontrollable (flame picture 20220127_082445).
Picture 20220127_130643 (item on left) Today the Service Rep replaced the burner value in an attempt to fix the uncontrolled flame issue. This did not work. Because all parts for the front-left burner have been replaced to date, the Service Rep contacted the GE Technician. Per the GE Technician, the three orifices (gold circular looking items on picture on left) for the outer burner need to be N109 and the one orifice on the inner burner needs to be N63. On our Range, the three orifices for the outer burner are N114 not only on the original part for this Range but also on the replacement part GE sent and the Service Technician installed on an earlier visit. All attempts today by the Service Technician to order the correct part from GE (three N109 and one N63) failed - something about it not being in their system. To sum it up - this Range was built with an incorrect part based upon what the GE technician indicated today.

The product, in the report: GE - Profile Series 36” Built-In Gas Cooktop - Stainless steel Model: PGP9036SLSS
GE - Profile Series 36” Built-In Gas Cooktop - Stainless steel, Model: PGP9036SLSS This gas stovetop only sparks at one point in the rotation of the control knob. One can easily rotate the knob past this point without any ignition and yet the gas will continue to come out. There is no shut off if this happens and the only indication is the odor of unburnt gas in the room. This is dangerous and could easily result in a gas explosion if there is no one in the room to notice.

Burner knobs had residual water remain after washing them. The knob was then placed on the gas valve. After placement the water traveled down the gas valve stem into the ignitor switch causing a short. Arcing could be heard then fire was seen and smelled. Unplugging the appliance extinguished the fire.

I purchased a GE gas cooktop, model # JGP5030SL1SS on 2/5/20. About 3 months later I noticed that my right front control knob had discolored and was misshaped. I then realized that it had melted. I reported it to GE and they sent me a new knob. After the second incident when I actually saw it happen as steam started to rise from the knob, they sent a technician. Nothing was found wrong with the unit so they offered to replace it. I saw that the GE profile model # PGP7030SL1SS had a more substantial knob (heavier and solid) so I requested and they accepted the upgrade trade in which was installed on 8/10/20. Unfortunately, on 12/21/20, I noticed that the paint on the front right burner knob was starting to peel. When I reported it, they again sent replacement knobs. On 1/11/21 I used the left front burner and the knob melted while I was cooking on a medium heat. I reported this again and was again sent new knobs and they gave me a case #. Sending me new knobs is not solving the problem. I believe there is a design flaw that can’t be corrected. The knobs were placed too close to the front burners on this cooktop. GE is claiming that they haven’t had complaints about this. I find it hard to believe that I’m the only one who this has happened to on both models. Have you had any complaints from others about these models? Right now I have no option but to ask them to send another technician to check this second model and see what happens.

Hurt, no treatment Made Dec 22, 2019, sent to the company Jan 14, 2020, published by CPSC Jan 29, 2020
The product, in the report: GE Profile Gas Range Oven Model “PGB910SEM4SS”, Serial No. AT212815P. Brushed Silver. Electronic back-panel. Four (4) burner range-top with one (1) rectangular, center center griddle. Five (5) front-panel ignition knobs. Black glass oven window; bottom pan storage or “warming” drawer.
GE Profile Gas Range Oven Model “PGB910SEM4SS”, Serial No. AT212815P. Purchased from Home Depot on Special Order, circa 2009 during a kitchen remodel package. The defect is that a main product sales feature, the “self-clean cycle” locks the range anywhere from one (1), two (2) to four (4) hours at extremely high temperatures, during which the entire range becomes not only dangerously hot to the human touch, causing burns, but causing the range knobs to melt (also known as “binding”) due to the excessive and unabated heat the oven generates when the “self-clean” cycle is used.
Further, the excessive and unabated heat generated when the broiler or high (400 degree) baking temperatures are selected, have burned my fingers when touching anything on the stovetop. Even if the knobs are replaced, use of the self-clean cycle or any high temperature oven activity will repeat the same danger. As narrated in the video, it is extremely dangerous to consistently check these knobs to ensure they are in the “off” position and that there isn’t any gas escaping at my cooperative (for both my and my fellow shareholders’ safety).
The defect occurred over a period of years and cannot be confined to one particular date for statute of limitations. Every time the “self-clean” cycle is activated, it presents an new and ever-increasing danger, besides the existing danger of the knobs. I am a single owner user and as you can see, the range oven is well maintained at all times and still sparkles in every area except the burnt area of the knobs (near the oven heat vents). (Except, the oven light just went out a day, ago... no worries). Thank you for your attention to this matter for it is a serious concern.

A GE Profile Series Front Control Slide-In Gas Range was delivered by Jim’s Appliances, Boise, ID, to my home on December 18, 2018. It was connected to the gas line in my kitchen by a licensed plumber on 12/19/18. Subsequently, during a clock replacement service call, a technician from Jim’s Appliances noted that the gas valve for the broiler was not working. Another was ordered by service at Jim’s Appliances and replacement of the defective valve was done on March 20 at 9am. After the new valve was installed the technician tested it and all other gas-related functions. He left, and a short time later I smelled a hint of gas. Figuring it was residual odor after the gas to the stove was turned back on, I checked the burners in the stove and broiler by briefly turning them on, then off. The odor went away and did not appear to return. I considered lying down for a nap but decided to go to a neighbor’s instead. About an hour later I returned home. When I opened the front door I was hit by a strong, acrid smell. I suspected it was coming from the stove, possibly the broiler burning off some factory residue. When I opened the oven it was hot although all of controls were in the off position. I had not left it on, I knew that, but I couldn’t figure out what was causing the oven to be so warm. I left it for a few minutes to see if it would cool off. Maybe, I thought, the newly connected wifi (the technician had me connect it when he was there earlier so the clock would keep time) had started the oven while I was gone. I had not touched the app, and there was no reason for this to have happened, but I don’t understand such things so that was one of my considerations. I called my neighbor to ask her to come over to help me figure out what was going on, she didn’t pick up. While I was waiting to call her back, I looked at the oven again and heard a sound that resemble that of a pilot light flickering. This range doesn’t have a pilot light though, so I was still at a loss as to what was going on. I could not see a flame or any source of the heat that was still being generated. I also noticed that the air in my house had begun to take on the look of a sheer blue veil and I felt a bit foggy myself. I called my neighbor again about 10 minutes later and she told me to get out of the house. I met her in street and asked her to open my front door to check for a smell. Once she got a whiff, she had me call 911 for Fire & Rescue. I also called the service technician and requested that he return to the house. The FD arrived within minutes. The technician not long after. Apparently FD called [REDACTED] Gas and their man arrived next. According to Boise FD, my house was filling up with carbon monoxide and their was a fire burning in the manifold inside the range. The seal on one of the gas distribution pipes going to one of the burners was leaking and the flame from the oven or broiler had been drawn back to the manifold, igniting the gas when I turned the burners on before I left the house. The gas to the then the entire house was turned off. The gas tech pressure checked the lines in my house and found all of them to be in good working order. The service technician tightened the Control Valve that had been leaking .The situation appeared to be under control and the firefighters, gas tech and service tech were about to leave when the gas tech decided to check the Control Valve one more time. It was still leaking even though it had been tightened multiple times by [REDACTED], the service repair technician. The gas to the range was turned off, for good this time. The Boise FD filled out a report. The [REDACTED] Gas technician left me with a Notice of Hazardous Condition regarding a Defective Control Valve. The service technician from Jim’s Appliances also mentioned the range’s Defective Control Valve when he called GE while he was still here. The range was removed from my home March 21, 2019, by Jim’s Appliances. I received a check for the full amount, including taxes and my cost of initial installation. I am filing this report because I am deeply concerned about this range and what appear to be several flaws in it’s design and/or parts. But for the fact that I decided to visit a neighbor rather than take a nap, I might well have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Whether or not my house would have gone up in flames or as a result of a gas explosion is not in my purview. I leave it to those who read this to make that decision.
I am hopeful that by filing this complaint an investigation into the possibility of a dangerous Defect in the Control Valve on the GE Profile Series 30 Slide-In Range will be undertaken. The outcome for me could have been very different and I want to make sure no one else is put into the same dangerous situation as I was.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Self-Cleaning Gas Range, Double Oven, Model PGB975SEM4SS, Serial # ZT201755P, 30” wide, 26” deep.
The glass upper oven door exploded last night, Wednesday, December 21, 2017, while dinner was baking at a moderate 350-375F. I had just checked the chicken for doneness, and had put it back in the oven to finish baking. I was sitting at the counter in the kitchen reading the paper, when I heard a very sharp pop and shattering noise. I looked and saw broken glass strewn all over the kitchen floor and crackled glass hanging on the outside of the upper oven door. The outer glass panel on the upper oven door had exploded. I had been sitting on the far side of the kitchen counter, otherwise I would have been sprayed with broken glass. We found broken glass as far as 9 feet from the edge of the oven door. The radius of explosion was limited by the locations of the kitchen base cabinets and walls of the room. My stove is GE Profile Self-Cleaning Gas Range, Double Oven, model # PGB975SEM4SS, serial #ZT201755P.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Gas Range model # PGB911SEJ2SS
I purchased a GE Profile gas range in June of 2016 (Model #PGB911SEJ2SS) from Home Depot. I don’t cook or bake, so I didn’t realize the front vent, which is located just below the large knobs, blows out at such high temperatures it actually will burn your skin if you touch any metal above it...including the knobs! My 4 year old grandson was looking into the oven when he placed his hand on the front, right above the vent and it burned his skin. This is a dangerous design flaw to place the vent on the front of the oven, right below the knobs of the stove top. The metal plate around the knobs, the knobs and the oven door heat at high temperatures when baking. GE claimed underwriters Laboratory gave a their seal of approval on this model, which is a lie. I called and opened a case with UL and the investigator stated if there is not a sticker on the appliance or paperwork, they did not certify it passed their standards. The investigator also looked up this model and he doesn’t have record of it. I told this to GE and everyone I spoke with said the same thing (like robots) that GE’s appliances are certified by UL and pass their heat standards. GE’s consumer relations department told me they could do nothing about the oven and for me to hire a lawyer due to my grandson being burned! I couldn’t believe they didn’t want to investigate this model for this design flaw! They need to recall these ovens that have the vent on the front.

To Whom it May Concern,
I would like to bring to your attention a safety incident involving my GE gas cook top. While using the rightmost 2 burners, the glass surface of the cook top exploded sending glass debris everywhere. To my family considerable luck, nobody was injured in the process. I believe that this kind of situations pose a considerable risk to users’ health/life of which you should be aware.
Thank you!

Bought a GE Profile gas range/oven and convection oven 14 months ago. The oven door glass exploded/shattered after very little use this past year. Had the oven on for approximately one hour at 450-425 degrees while cooking today and within about 30 minutes of turning off the oven we noticed it was shattered. No one was near the oven when this happened and luckily it wasn’t an explosive situation. Really disappointed since i have rarely used the oven portion of this appliance and it is just 6 weeks over the warranty expiring. model CGS-985-SETSS

the glass top of my GE Profile Gas Range (Model J2S968SOH3SS) exploded. This happened as I was cooking salmon burgers on one of the burners. The incident happened precisely as I was turning off the stove. There was the sound of a small explosion. The glass top of the range shattered and sent shards of glass on the floor along with the pan I was cooking the salmon burgers with. I had been cooking the salmon burger for roughly 10 minutes before the incident happened and the cooking area was being actively vented with my above range vent. Afterwards I called the local gas company (PG&E). They came out to my house and determined that there were no gas leaks.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Gas Range SS
I have a gas range from GE Profile SS Model PGB975SEM1SS Serial MM273741P that has knobs that do not lock. The slightest brush against them allows them to release gas. A check of the internet shows that this is a common problem with no solution. There are hundreds of complaints on the Consumer Affairs site. I will be contacting GE but have very little confidence that it will result in a solution without the US Consumer boards help. Last night one of my children must have brushed against a knob because in the morning the house reeked of gas and sure enough the stove / knob was the reason. This is very serious since the slightest brush can cause the leak. The potential for an explosion fire is very real. There is no locking mechanism or ticking sound.

When checked the next day by serviceman he felt there was some plastic that burned. Not sure what the cause but frightening experience.

I had just finished cooking bagels in the oven at 425 degrees and removed the food from the oven. The door was closed when the oven was turned off, the inside tempered glass shattered without warning and nothing was done but turning off the appliance. No one was injured at the time of the incident but the glass should not have shattered under normal cooking temperatures. This is a brand new appliance which we only had for two days and this was only the second time the oven had been used since installation.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Gas Built-In Cooktop Installed in new home built in 2005/2006.
GE Profile Gas Cooktop model JGP970 had its gas valve knobs removed for cleaning. The stove was not used for over 12 hours prior to this cleaning. An aerosol cleaner was sprayed on the cooktop by a cleaning service person and allowed to sit for a minute or so. It was “Easy-Off Oven Cleaner Heavy Duty”. The cleaning solution went up in flames with a large flame burst. Fortunately, the person was not directly next to the cooktop when this occurred or they would have been badly burned.
The fire was started because of the harness switch part # WB18T1036. It has an electric switch that sits on top of each gas knob and enables the sparking feature that ignites the burners when the knob is turned on. The cleaner seeped into the switch given it’s not water tight and ignited the cleaner.
I contacted GE consumer relations and opened case # 13124419. They initially were very concerned and then backed down and agreed only to pay for a service visit and split the cost of labor and parts to repair. Though this helped financially, I don’t believe they responded accordingly. The service person stated he sees this occur at least twice a year and didn’t think it was a safety issue. I later responded to GE with pictures of the burned part exposing the design flaw of their components and they stated they have done all they need to do. I explained to them that people clean their oven tops and knobs by design can come off to help with that process. I agree spraying oven cleaner on the top was not the best choice for a cleaner, but starting a fire is an unexpected result which GE should have accounted for in their design. Especially since the knobs are on the top flat surface of the cooktop. I simply wanted them to acknowledge the saftey issue, refund the cost of the entire service and ask for me to ship them the bad part for further investigation. That did not occur which is why I submitted this complaint.

We have a GE Profile gas range we purchased in 11/12. We have three or four times turned the gas on inadvertently by brushing up against the knobs on the front of the range. One of these incidents occurred before we left the house. We didn’t know we had done it, and the house was filling with gas when we returned home. There is no indent on the knobs in the OFF position to keep them from being turned on unintentionally, it is extremely easy to turn them on. GE either needs to provide a guard over the knobs to prevent tihs or design some kind of indent or knob so that it takes some effort to turn the gas on.

Our GE Profile Gas Cook-top (Model: JGP975BEK2BB, Serial No:TV702803Q) had the child safety switch break in May 2012. It required a new switch harness (the computer brain of the unit which controls the electric start & safety switch). In November 2012, the new switch harness failed again. This time it started trying to light all the burners at 3 am. Luckily my husband was awake with our baby & heard the unit trying to light itself. He could not stop it, so he had to unplug the unit from the electrical socket. Although the gas was not on, the main burner sparks on the outside of the housing each time any of the burners attempt to light. When we go to use our GE Profile oven it always smells like gas is leaking. We have contacted GE to come out and they say everything is ok and also we have called out a service person. They have said that there is nothing wrong which is a lie otherwise we would be able to use our oven without the smell of gas.
This is a real problem and GE does know there is a problem and they are choosing not to acknowledge the problem due to they do not want to replace the stove.
Shame on them and we will never ever be purchasing a GE product again

While allowing the oven to preheat in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes the broiler pan blew out and then flames came out . She opened the door to the oven and the flames began to shoot out. She cut the gas off and then switched the oven in the off position.
She contacted the retailer and advised them of what happened and she was advised to contact Ford Electronic and Appliances of Lake City MI because they were authorized under them to make repairs. The firm came out 1/5/2009 to replaced a valve and igniter.
On 8/4/2010 while baking a casserole on 350 degrees when she opened the oven door the flames came out cinching the consumer bangs (hair on her forehead).
On 8/19/2010 she contacted Ford’s Electronic Appliance of Lake City MI who came out to replace same valve again (exact valve) on the same date.
On 12/25/2011 when she attempted to power the oven in the on position on 350 degrees she noticed there was no heat inside of the oven.
12/27/2011 Ford’s Electronic Appliance of Lake City MI they replaced the igniter and she was advised it was an upgrade igniter that was just manufactured. She contacted the firm (date is unknown) and spoke with [REDACTED] who offered to have the appliance picked up and that she would have to pay 1,000 for a new appliance. She then requested to speak her manager.
A gentlemen by the name of [REDACTED] indicated that he was the manager and that he approved the offer that she was offered. She was also advised since she had replacement parts put in by a company that’s not authorize by them they cannot offer warranty on the parts.
On 1/11/2012 she received a letter from the firm confirming what she was offered. The consumer indicated that she declined on the offer because she cannot afford a new appliance at this time.
The range is still currently still being used and she has not experienced a failure with the appliance since.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Self Cleaning Convection Electric Range
Report revised to correct model and serial number GE Profile Self Cleaning Convection Electric Range JS968 My wife received a serious burn after being touched by the heating element in the oven/broiler part of our electric range. When I looked at the range, the heating element is within about 1 inch of the front edge of the oven and projects downward about 1 inch from the top of the oven. In this location it is very easy to contact accidentally. The manual has 4 pages of safety information and never once mentions this hazard. The oven compartment should be fitted with a guard to prevent such contact, and existing ranges should be retrofitted with this.

The product, in the report: GE Profile gas Range Model #PBG 918 DEM 4 WW. This has an oval center burner, convection and baking drawer.
In October I bought a GE Profile gas range model # PGB 918 DEMWW. The knobs on the front are so easy to push in and turn that just walking past and brushing them will turn them on and gas will leak. I have done this several times just by brushing past them or by bumping them while trying to get items out of the microwave or cupboards overhead. Our plumber was here two days ago working on the sink and bumped them and did not realize it until my son came into the room and smelled gas.
This is a huge safety issue to me. When I contacted GE for advice they said the only thing I could do was to take the knobs off. This is not an acceptable long term solution to what I consider to be a design problem. No one has been hurt yet, but we may be if we are not careful.
Thanks for your help.

The product, in the report: 30 inch. 4 burner GE Profile gas cooktop.
I have a Ge Profile gas cooktop. Approximate age is 7 years old. I was making spaghetti and had a large pot boiling with water on the high output burner. The other two burners were also being used at the same time. I placed the spaghettti in pot and some water boiled over. I was standing at the cooktop and was just going to stir the spaghetti and all of sudden the entire cooktop shattered and made a loud bang noise, like it exploded!. The glass shattered and pieces of glass came off cooktop. Part of the cooktop collapsed. I panicked and removed the pans and inadvertinly burned the countertop. At the time I was very concerned the cooktop was going to fully collapse into the cabinet. The spaghett pot tipped and some water spilled out and burned my foot and dogs paws.
I was so shakin up that I called my neighbor whom is the captain of the fire department. He came over immediately and turned off the gas and told me to contact GE, this was definitely a manufacturer defect.
The next day I called Ge and spoke with a [REDACTED]. She told me she was sorry for the mishap and would like to send a GE repairmen to my house to evaluate the cooktop. They even paid for the GE rep to come to my home to inspectthe unit. He arrrived at my home the same day within 4 hours. He evaluate the cooktop and I quote, He said “ This happens alot on the electric glass cooktops but he had never seen it on the gas cooktops.” He then tells me,” Don’t worry the part to fix this is no longer available so GE will replace this cooktop.” “ That’s what we do when the parts are no longer available and this happens.” End quote..
The next day I call [REDACTED] and I am on hold for 30 minutes and then I am told she is not available. I leave a voice message. Then I call again on the next day, still no [REDACTED]so I talk to [REDACTED]. She informs me at this time accoding to the notes in the computer, GE will send me a new cooktop, however, I will need to pay $759.00. I tell her this is not acceptable. She says she will see what she can do. I never hear from her again!
I then get a call from GE telling me that since they have not heard from me they are closing my case. I immediately call, and again I am on hold for 30 minutes and still it is somebody new! This time they tell me I can get a new cooktop for $689.00 That is what I need to pay. I again say this is not acceptable. I did nothing wrong to have the cooktop shatter the way it did. I explain how the GE rep told me it was a manufacturing problem They told me to take this offer or they would be closing the case. I again said not acceptable and asked to speak to a manager. I was on hold for another 20 minutes and was finally told the managers were in a meeting and the only additional thing they could do is to take off the shipping charges off the price of a new cooktop Meaning I will be paying $639.00. Big deal!! I could buy the same cooktop on the internet with an additional 10 year warranty, and free shipping for $800.00.
As it stands today I am waiting to hear from a manager at GE!!

The product, in the report: Gas Range
The gas burners on this range turn on extremely easily. They turn on sometimes just by brushing against them with your body or a piece of clothing, which has happened to us many times. Often, we wouldn’t know until we smelt the gas (sometimes several minutes later), unless they ignited and then we are at the risk of being burnt. One day, when no one was home, the burner was turned on. We think our dog turned it on by hitting it when she put her paws and head on the counter next to the range to get a plate of food that was left there. When we got home, the burner on the highest setting. It had scorched the counter, which was smoldering, and I am sure if we arrived any later it would have started a fire. Since then, we have been removing the burner dials when we are not using the range.
This is an extremely dangerous situation. We could have been hurt or killed by either the gas escaping or a fire. I am surprised this product has not been recalled already.

Emergency room Made Sep 7, 2011, published by CPSC Sep 29, 2011
The product, in the report: Gas cook top
We recently moved to a newly built house by DR Horton on May 31, 2011. My wife was cooking rice and beans [in a pressure cooker] on August 18, 2011 at around 4 pm the burner that was on blew up with a very big noise. My son [REDACTED] who is 10 years old was in his room upstairs and felt the house shaking. The rice and beans flew all over the place. The grill on top of the burner shattered into pieces. The rest of the burners which were off came out of their base. The hot rice and beans stuck my wife’s face, eyes, neck and hand causing 1st and 2nd degree burns. Luckily the hot grill pieces did not cause any injuries. We called the GE consumer representative and she said no one could come to look at the stove that day and sent a contractor from A&E the next day morning. On the same evening we called the Texas Gas Company and they did a thorough inspection and ruled out any leaks. The A&E technician came and just said the stove is beyond repair and needs to be replaced. That’s it. After calling many times to GE insurance company and customer representatives, GE finally sent a independent forensic engineer from Houston and a insurance adjustor to look at the stove on August 30 but did not give any reason for the blow up. GE has agreed to replace the stove with a newer model. I want a report from GE for the cause of the blowup. I think this could have caused much greater damage and want to prevent further incidents.
