The product, in the report: GS Gas Range
Home builders installed a GE Gas Range XL44 in numbers of homes where I live.
Model # JGBS20WEA3WW TA112186P
My concern are the lack of safety on the knobs the release the gas.
Its set up so as you turn the knob to the complete right stopping at the igniter initiator (which clicks, until you turn back a hair) the gas is lite into flame.
The problem is knob has no resistance so if its just lightly bumped it can release gas as the shift in direction doesn’t meet the igniter. So the gas releases until someone notices a smell. This has happened several times and worst case has been it was releasing while we were sleeping. We were not aware until the gas smell had filled the rooms and it woke us. its very scarey to think what could happen.
The stove in the scheme of things isn’t that old and I’m surprised it would be made this way. I was surprise that when I called GE its never been reported to them. By my neighbor has the same one and she too has has this issue.
GE offered no solution but to look for some after market safety mechanism .. Perhaps this is something needing attention. Im sure this model is still in many homes.
Hopefully can help.
