No one hurt Made Dec 31, 2024, sent to the company Jan 10, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 27, 2025
The product, in the report: Electrolux Home Products North America Inc. gas range / oven has a five burner cooktop and a bottom drawer broiler
I am a fire investigator for the [REDACTED]. We had an oven / range fire on December 26, 2024. The summary is as follows:
1. Called to a house with a stove fire. 2. We arrived on scene, and Police and homeowners had used ABC extinguishers. Not sure if that actually put the fire out, or the fuels were consumed. Regardless, fire was out upon our arrival. 3. Because of the heat still coming off and out of unit, we disconnected the natural gas line and pulled the unit out of the house, and into their back yard. 4. The oven door was locked, but with a little prying, we were able to get it to open. We found a pan that once had either a wooden or plastic handle. This handle would appear to be what was on fire. 5. With a little prying, we were also able to lift the stove top up. Nothing appeared out of place other than the pan found in the oven. 6. Interviewing the residents revealed that they had just used the oven to bake a dish. She had left the door open, and was not aware that the pan was placed inside the oven. She then used the self clean feature. This was done by pressing a button on the control panel. This locked the door electrically. Then the fire occurred, and they were not able to open the door to put out. 7. The residents are new to this house, having lived there for only 1 to 2 months. They do not have renters insurance, and they owned the oven / range. The land lord arrived, and they do have insurance. The only fire related damage appeared to have been contained to the oven / range. No other damage was noticed inside the kitchen or the rest of the house. The only damage was dry powder from the ABC extinguishers and smoke smell.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire gas range. See the product here that we purchased from RC WILLEY ROSEVILLE. https://www.frigidaire.com/en/p/kitchen/ranges/gas-ranges/GCRG3060AF?region_id=900051&gad=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2YXkq-XJgQMVPSytBh2LywIMEAQYBCABEgI7h_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
We have Frigidaire gas range purchased at RC Willies of Sacramento in 2021. From the start, if one accidentally brushes against the front of the stove, natural gas is released into the home. Until one smells the gas, gas continues to be released. If one’s sense of smell is impaired the consequence could be a disaster. These gas releases have happened far too many times causing us to worry about children and pets. This past weekend, a burner was actually lit and we experienced the burner igniting. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS. Frigidaire should be held accountable in correcting this significant product defect.

The product, in the report: Electrolux gas stove- silver color
I preheated the oven to bake dinner, I closed it well and when I was going to put the dinner to cook, I opened the door and everything exploded in front of my face, my little 9-month-old daughter was crawling behind me and I couldn’t see her because I only saw the flames through my glasses I was very scared but I managed to push my baby away from the flames then only my hair and one of my eyebrows burned, I managed to turn off the unit but it was still on and I couldn’t turn it off, when finally the fire went out a very strong smell of gas came out, My husband checked the stove and in the oven there was a very big leak my husband closed the gas valve and we called our gas supplier, they arrived and confirmed that there was a leak coming from the oven of the stove, we had to be outside our house while the smell of gas disappeared, it was very terrifying to live this, at one point we thought that the house would explode since everything smelled of very strong gas.

The product, in the report: 36’’ Gas Slide-In Cooktop
The submitter is reporting the range for posing a safety hazard. She claims the knobs are defective and cause gas to emit unintentionally.
She has replaced the knobs 12 times and during the Thanksgiving weekend five of the knobs broke. She indicated that the break occurs on the plastic piece of the knob which connects to the metal peg on the range. The first knob broke two months after she began using the range. She indicated that the unit was installed in January of 2017.
She’s concerned because there were incidents when the knob was cracked and she turned the knob to the off position and the flame turned off but gas was still emitting. During one incident the house filled up with gas.
She contacted the firm each time the knob broke to request replacements and she has expressed her safety concerns but she states the firm does not see this issue as a safety hazard (Account # [REDACTED]). She believes the firm should recall the unit and also add a safety feature on the unit to indicate if gas emitting.
She also contacted the Federal Trade Commission and filed a complaint about the issue (Reference # [REDACTED]).

The product, in the report: 36 inch gas cooktop , Electrolux Icon (top of their products)
The Electrolux Icon gas cooktop E36GC75PSS , the serial number is under the cabinet and i could not locate it. We purchased a new house house on February 26,2016 and the Electrolux cooktop was purchased in January 2016 and installed in the house. In July 2016 I called Electrolux and told them the control knobs (3182422) that the plastic part on the inside of the knobs had cracked and needed to be replaced. They send six new knobs (3182422) because the cooktop was under warranty (1-year). on March 7, 2018 I called Electrolux to replace the control knobs (same problem) they told me to purchase them for approximately $56.00 but they would give me 30% off of my order. I asked them if they I corrected the problem with the control knobs, they had the same part number (3182422). These controls knobs have all cracked, original six plus five of the same part number they send us in July 2016. I have had numerous calls to no help to correct this problem. In July 2018 we had a service call for another appliance and the service man smelled gas when we opened the door. The control knobs do not turn off the gas, when you turn the knob to off. This product needs to removed from homes before someones home is destroyed from a gas leak.

I had reported an unsafe gas oven due to an MFG defect in a single part. The product is a gas oven that kept on turning of by itself unexpectedly even while off. The company (Frigidaire) said it would replace the part and a second part that failed due to the first part failing if they received a report by the the CPSC. The part is the oven thermostat coming on by itself while no one was there, and the igniter premature burnout due to the abnormal off/on cycles which went on 24/7 for several months. The product, in the report: Frigidaire professional FPGH3077RF- stainless steel finish range
The knobs on the range are too sensitive. I can walk by and brush them and the gas comes on, but thenignotor does not. There have been several times when we’ve smelled gas because of this. The interlock on these know is incorrectly designed. Further I have seen other reports of this on this site and numerous other sites on the internet. This is fire hazard plain and simple. This is a brand new stove in a kitchen we just had remodeled.

It was NOT turned on or being used at the time and no one was even in the kitchen when it happened (thankfully as I have two small children). The range is only about 4 years old and doesn’t get used very often. The glass not only shattered but shot out across the kitchen.

The product, in the report: Electrolux model EI30GS55JS gas cooking range Serial # NF41228446
Electrolux model EI30GS55JS gas range Serial # NF41228446
Front right burner is defective resulting in unburnt natural gas being released out of the burner leading to explosive hazard and gas poisoning in the kitchen and house. This occurs when the front right burner knob is turned through the Med-Hi position. When the burner is turned from Off to Hi, the burner igniter triggers, the burner outputs gas, the flame lights, the flame level is High, and operates correctly. When knob is turned to Med-Hi, the gas output from the burner decreases so low that the flame often goes out entirely or is below the flame level of the Low knob position. This is a major safety hazard in that the flame often goes out when the burner knob is in the Med-Hi position area. When the knob continues to be turned from Med-Hi area to Med area, the gas output from the burner increases. If the burner flame went out when it was turned to Med-Hi, the burner is now outputting unburnt natural gas. This is a major safety hazard because now unburnt natural gas is flowing from the burner into the room resulting in an explosive and poisoning hazard. If the flame happened to not go out when the knob was turned from Med-Hi to Med, the flame level increases. If the knob continues to be turned to Med-Low, the flame level decreases to a Med-Low level, operating correctly. If the knob is turned to Low area, the flame level continues to decrease to a low level, operating correctly.
Now going the other direction, if the flame is still lit and the knob is turned from Low to the Med-Low area, the burner outputs more gas, the flame level increases, operating correctly. If the knob continues to be turned from Med-Low to Med area, the burner outputs more gas, the flame level increases, operating correctly. If the knob continues to be turned from Med area to Med-Hi area, the burner outputs less gas, the flame level decreases often to the point of going out. If the knob continues to be turned from Med-Hi to High position, the gas output of the burner increases. If the flame went out when it was turned to Med-Hi, the burner is now outputting unburnt natural gas at the high setting. This is a major safety hazard because now unburnt natural gas is flowing from the burner into the room resulting in an explosive and poisoning hazard.
When a pan or pot is sitting on the grate over the burner, it blocks easy viewing of the burner. With the major safety hazard described above, the operator doesn’t even know the flame has gone out when cooking and adjusting the temperature. We can be using a fry pan on the burner with it set to Hi, turn the knob down to Med, and not even realize that the flame went out when it was turned past Med-Hi and now the burner is outputting unburnt natural gas into the kitchen. To make it even more dangerous, upon realizing this, if one turns the burner to the Off position, it passes through area on the knob that causes the electric igniter for the burner to activate. This then ignites the unburnt natural gas causing a flash flame to occur with the unburnt natural gas in the area of the burner. This has burnt the hair on my arm on one occasion.
The appliances was purchased on 10/7/15. The defect was reported to Electrolux on 8/4/16. Electrolux has had 6 scheduled service visit to repair the appliances under warranty on 8/9/16, 8/16/16, 9/20/16, 11/7/16, 11/11/16, and 12/9/16. The defect was demonstrated and reproduced by the Electrolux service technician. Electrolux has made adjustments and replaced parts on the appliance with no resolution to the defect. I have requested repair of the defect or reimbursement of the purchase price 10+ times to Electrolux. They are now being deceptive claiming the appliance is no longer under warranty since the one year warranty period has passed since the 10/7/15 purchase date. This is despite the defect being reported to Electrolux and three of the scheduled service visits occurring well within the one year warranty period. To add to it, in order to not be liable, they will no longer communicate with me on resolving the defect via any electronic or written means despite doing so with dozens of emails from 8/4/16 to beginning of December timeframe. They will now only communicate via voice. Despite weeks since the 12/9/16 sixth attempted service visit, they have not scheduled a seventh visit to repair the defect. They continue to be deceptive and illusive on resolving this major safety defect with natural gas.

To Whom It May Concern,
I have enclosed information sent to me from Electrolux Warranty Corporation, State of Maryland Office of the Attorney General Consumer Protection Division, & Chesapeake Kitchen.
I have been assured by Electrolux that the replacement stove is under full 1 year warranty.
My concern remains the same that when the oven is on and baking at 350 or above for 1/2hour the burner knobs get hot. This is and remains a concern. The fact that this stove vents still from the oven door as well as stove top back panel. Vents are broken lines vents. The design is in my opinion a poor design. This stove is being used with the hopes that no one is injuried (burned).

The product, in the report: LP gas range
We purchased a LP gas range a little more than a year ago. Since owning it I guess 33 to 40 times the burner knobs have turned on, without turning on the igniter, by simply bumping them or brushing against them. Allowing gas to leak into the house. The safety catch does not seem to be doing its job correctly. We have always caught the problem in the past. Today I returned from work to a kitchen filled with gas. I turned off the burned knob and opened doors and windows to clear the gas. It had been running all day. I feel this is a manufacturer defect with huge safety concerns. In 25 yrs. of owning gas ranges, I have never had this situation. Could you see what can be done to protect an unsuspecting owner.

The product, in the report: Gas Range
About 3 weeks ago, the consumer stated that she was using the oven for about 1-1.5 hours, when two of the carbon monoxide detectors in her home went off at the same time (CO detectors are located on two separate floors in the house).
The consumer stated that the readings on the detectors were 57-59 ppm.
The consumer contacted her gas company ([REDACTED]). The consumer had a technician, [REDACTED], come out from [REDACTED] on 12/09/15 for an inspection. The technician turned on the oven on bake and convection features. He tested for CO numerous time. One of the readings from the back vent of the unit came out to 467ppm. The technician took the unit apart and examined the unit. He was unable to figure out what the problem was.
He asked the consumer to order two different pieces (flame spreader and the oven bottom). He mentioned that the flame spreader was touching the underside of the oven bottom. He was unsure if that was causing the collection of CO or if there was another chemical reaction occurring.
The consumer ordered the two parts through Sears and she’s waiting on them to arrive (expected delivery 12/21/15). The consumer will be installing the parts on their own. They scheduled [REDACTED] technician to come out on 12/22/15 to inspect the unit after installing the new parts.
The consumer will be contacting Electrolux because her unit is having the same issue as the units recalled under #10-048. The consumer’s unit serial # falls out of range in the recall.

The product, in the report: Cooktop
There are 4 issues with my Electrolux ICON cooktop E36GC70FSS1
1) Big pots come so close to the knobs in the middle of the cooktop, that you have sometimes no chance but to be too close to the knobs. This is not only a design error, the knobs start melting once a big hot pot or pan like a canning pot gets close to them. 3 of my 5 knobs have burn marks by now (2.5 years), one needs to be replaced as it melted to a point where it was deformed. Suddenly, I saw the knob steam and had I not been right there, it would have probably caught fire. Scary with a gas cooktop!
2) If you clean the knobs while leaving them on the cooktop and you don’t watch it carefully, suddenly you might have turned one half on so that gas starts streaming in your kitchen without any warning. There is no light or off-switch – dangerous!
3) Sometimes the burners don’t start right away when turning them on. So after a few tries, they suddenly turn on with a big flame and poof. I expect this by now, but easy to burn your fingers holding a pot or pan.
4) If you take the knobs off for cleaning, food crumbs might fall in the holes below the knobs and there are little tightening metal parts within the knobs that might fall out by taking the knobs off the top for cleaning. Those are considered part of the knob and it won’t work without them. Once one is lost, you need to replace the entire knob for over $30...., never mind the hassle to find the part number of the installed cooktop, which is right under it. No fun if the cooktop is installed in a drawer cabinet.
The worst of all is, that Electrolux ignores these issues. I found other reviews for this product on Amazon and they are stating the same issues.

Caller stated that she had been experiencing problems with her gas range. The range had melted the knobs because of the heating element and also leaked CO into her home. (8/5) She contacted the gas company and they advised her of the levels of CO that the range had caused and her gas was tuned off. This incident has been ongoing since 2013 with the melted knobs, the retailer was contacted initially and she was told not to use the front burner.
8/5/15 The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed that a service technician would be sent out at her expense. However, caller explained to the company rep that the knobs were melted and the rep. informed her that there was nothing they could do about that issue. Caller stated that the heating element is too close to the right burner. She had moved the knobs around which caused all the knobs to melt.
Caller is concerned about the failure of this range and feels that she should be compensated by getting a replacement.

The panel where the knobs are on my gas range get extremely hot when I use my oven or Broiler for any extended period. Thus the knobs also get too hot to touch at times. They may be but the knobs still get very hot. My range is still under warranty.

The product, in the report: Electrolux Icon 30” Pro Range
I have an Electrolux Icon gas range and I have now had multiple incidents of hot boiling pots tipping forward toward my body and nearly dumping over onto the floor while standing in front of the stove. The issue lies in the construction of the metal grates on the stovetop/range. There are gaps on the front of the grates where the design of the metal grates is not contiguously rectilinear, which provides dead air space below the pot, which in turn creates a propensity for a pot to tip forward and onto the user. This creates an extremely dangerous situation for the user of the range.

Caller purchased a home in August 2012 and is reporting the Frigidaire gas range.
Caller is reporting that the range could burn individuals when you turn on the oven or the broiler because the top portion of the range become so hot that it burns the skin.
She contacted the retailer who sent an outsourced to Pacific Southwest Distributor Tech (Luis/ID#0886192) who inspected the range then informed the caller that it is normal for the top portion of the range to become this hot because it is expected to reach 130 degrees but that it was a poorly built stove.
She is asking that CPSC inspect the range to find whether the range is reaching higher temperatures.
She placed her hand on the range and it was hot instantly to make her grabbed it back but she states that if a child were to place their hands on the range while the oven or broiler is on then they may become burned badly.
No injuries are being reported

I have an Electrolux Gas range which has a front burner that has a hesitation to light and when it does light it lights extra powerful due to the delay and extra gas release. We had a tech look at it and he said that it is a performance issue that he sees consistently with the unit. Sadly, my shirt caught fire a few weeks ago due to the problem and I now avoid usage which is not right if there is a safety issue with product. The front burner has a extra large performance burner that is causing issues but Electrolux doesn’t want to fix the problem I guess. Maybe you can made sure this doesn’t cause injury to another person, Electrolux is difficult to work with as a consumer.

I was cleaning off the surface of the range when I cut my hand on a piece of metal that protrudes from the rear panel. This piece of metal sticks out about one inch all along the back of the stove about three inches above the burners, and it is very sharp. I had a deep cut just below the knuckle of the middle finger on my right hand that completely severed the tendon. I needed to have surgery to reattach the tendon. It is very painful and my hand needs to be in a splint for a month. I can provide a picture of the piece of metal that cut my finger.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel slide in range Model E30GF74HPS
Our Electrolux range Model No E30GF74HPS Serial No. NF94226425 was installed on 11/22/09. We purchased an extended warranty from Electrolux. We immediately learned that the model was recalled by Electrolux due to carbon monoxide emissions but were assured by Electrolux and technicians who came out subsequently to repair the oven and the refrigerator that our unit was not subject to recall. The igniter was replaced in early December, 2011.
We had complaints made to Electrolux of strong gas smell when the oven was on (no problems with the top burners). They sent technicians out several times, but found no problem with the oven. They did not bring any emission testing equipment, just verified that the oven burners were ignited.
Our carbon monoxide detectors went off beginning on June 13, 2012 Electrolux again sent a technician on June 19, 2012 who reported my complaints to Electrolux but stated that he found that the oven burners were igniting. Electrolux authorized a second opinion on 6/22/12, but the servicer was not available for a week. On that date, June 22, 2012 I called our local gas utility, [REDACTED] , who immediately dispatched an emergency technician to my apartment, who turned the range on, stated that the gas connection to the range was not defective, his gas level testing equipment revealed that the range released dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide and he shut off the gas service to my apartment and issued a warning card that is affixed to the range. The utility will not turn on the gas unless I replace the range and that range is tested by [REDACTED] .
UPDATE FROM SUBMITTER: The consumer’s husband was hospitalized due to alleged injuries incurred from exposure to carbon monoxide from faulty Electrolux range. The reporting consumer has been receiving outpatient medical treatment.

The product, in the report: Gas Range with five burners
Caller is reporting five burner gas range that he and his family have noticed a safety problem with regarding the knobs that turn the burners on.
He states that when reaching to the microwave that is over the burners the knobs are very easily turned by the clothing around their stomach area.
One time the burners were lit and on for 15 minutes before being noticed. The knobs turn enough to start the gas but not enough to ignite the burner with 95% of the time the middle burner being the one that is turned. The left back burner is also one that occasionally becomes turned on by the clothing catching on it. He states that the knobs turn so easily that you don’t realize that it is being turned. About 1/8 inch or less press defeats lock on valve.
Many times since the person at the microwave doesn’t notice that the knob on the gas range has turned, the kitchen becomes filled with gas before they smell it.
As soon as the knob is touched/turned whether accidently or on purpose the first setting is at high.
He is reporting as a safety issue due to the ease that this knob is turned and the danger of asphyxiation or explosion if gas is not detected quickly enough.
Caller would ask that the manufacturer either redesign the knob so that it cannot so easily become turned possibly by changing the knob so that it has to be pushed in before it comes on both for this particular reported issue as well as he has noted that a baby could also turn the knobs on very easily.
Caller would also ask to be kept in the loop with any correspondence or change.
Part of knob catches clothes or body. Rounder knob or more positive lock on valve needed. Previous range knobs were rounded and never caught clothes or got turned on.

The product, in the report: Gas Double Wall Oven
Purchased Frigidaire double gas oven from Lowe’s in 2007 but within the last few months the upper oven door began being difficult to open.
Saturday, January 7th, 2012 she was baking cookies, was having problems opening the oven door when the screws popped out and the door became completely loose on the left side and the right side became warped.
The left side of the door is resting on the top of the lower door.
Caller is reporting this as a safety hazard due to heat escaping and possibility of the door falling on someone.
Handle is made of very light metal and not very strong at all

The product, in the report: electrolux Gas range wave Model # EI23BC56IS6
We purchased the wave touch gas range 11/01/11. The first time I cleaned the top I was cut very severly by a sharp lip under the top panel . There doesn’t seem to be a need for this piece of metal , and I find it dangerous.
