Made Oct 9, 2026, sent to the company Oct 19, 2026, published by CPSC Nov 2, 2026

The product, in the report: BlueStar Range, Model No: RCS304BSS

Brand: BlueStar Product Type: Gas Range / Oven Model: RCS304BSS

The broiler on my BlueStar gas range turned on and ran continuously while the range was in the OFF position and without any action on my part. I only noticed because I stepped out of my office to get a drink and noticed smoke. I opened the cavity and saw a live flame coming from the broiler that was burning the pots, pans, etc. that were in there. I checked that the knob was off and tried to turn the knob to get the fire to turn off. When that was unsuccessful I used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. My super came and unplugged the range and turned off the gas.

An oven turning ON uncommanded in my view is a catastrophic error that should never occur.

Due to the discharge of the fire extinguisher, the rear fan housing, the thermal insulation and electrical wiring all are impacted and subject to chemicals, which in my view makes the oven unsafe to operate and could get into our food.

When contacted, BlueStar acknowledged that this was a rare, but known issue with the mechanical knobs and that they have since moved to an electronic knob. They only offered this part, refusing to cover labor costs. In addition, they stated that they do not consider fire extinguisher contamination to be a safety or health concern despite the chemicals used.

I paid to have a technician recommended by BlueStar ([REDACTED]) come out. They took photos, videos and could not guarantee that this would not happen again.

Made Aug 27, 2026, sent to the company Sep 2, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 17, 2026

The product, in the report: I am reporting a potentially serious safety issue involving a BlueStar RNB304BSS 30-inch natural gas range, serial number 1406260, purchased approximately 20132014. The range recently developed a natural gas leak. I stopped using the appliance and had it evaluated by Mr. Appliance of Woodley Park in Washington, DC. Their technician documented that the two front burners and gas lines were extremely corroded and that the pipes are now leaking gas. Because of the condition of the components, the technician recommended replacement of all burners and gas lines for safety reasons rather than replacing only the components currently known to be leaking. The service company’s written recommendation states that the appliance itself is otherwise clean and in good condition and describes the degree of deterioration as unusual. I am particularly concerned about the cause of this deterioration. The explanation provided to me was that natural gas caused the corrosion. I have not been provided with an explanation of why components specifically designed to carry natural gas would deteriorate to the point of leaking under normal residential use. The service company’s internal work-order documentation also raises concerns about the material used in the affected components and describes the leaking condition as a potential explosion hazard. I contacted BlueStar directly. BlueStar informed me that my serial number does not fall within any current recall and was dismissive of a connection to an existing recall. I understand and acknowledge that my serial number is outside the published serial-number range for CPSC Recall 18-218. I am not claiming that my appliance is currently covered by that recall. However, I believe the failure warrants investigation because Recall 18-218 involved BlueStar ranges and ovens in which delayed ignition could allow gas to accumulate and subsequently ignite. I have also located a separate CPSC incident report concerning another approximately 2014 BlueStar RNB304BSS, serial number 1401400. My appliance is the same model and has serial number 1406260. That incident reportedly involved delayed ignition and significant damage to internal components. I recognize that this does not establish that the two failures have the same cause, but I believe the similarity in model and production period warrants consideration. My appliance is currently not being used and the gas supply to it has been shut off. I have not authorized the proposed repair because I would like the cause of the gas-system deterioration documented before the original components are removed or discarded. I am requesting that CPSC review this incident and determine whether the deterioration and gas leakage in this earlier RNB304BSS could represent a product-safety issue and whether it may warrant further investigation in light of other reported BlueStar gas-range incidents. I can provide photographs of the appliance and identification plate, the service company’s written diagnosis and internal work-order documentation, repair estimates, and correspondence with BlueStar upon request. Product information Manufacturer: BlueStar / Prizer-Painter Stove Works Model: RNB304BSS Serial number: 1406260 Fuel: Natural gas Approximate purchase/manufacture period: 20132014 Location: Washington, DC Current condition: Appliance removed from use due to confirmed gas leakage

I am reporting a potentially serious safety issue involving a BlueStar RNB304BSS 30-inch natural gas range, serial number 1406260, purchased approximately 20132014.

The range recently developed a natural gas leak. I stopped using the appliance and had it evaluated by [REDACTED] of Woodley Park in Washington, DC.

The product, in the report: 36” RNB Stainless Steel Gas Range

Description of hazard: The structural oven cavity (liner) of this gas range has developed a crack under normal residential cooking conditions, breaching the oven’s thermal barrier. The manufacturer’s service department has stated the oven cavity is not a replaceable part, meaning the appliance cannot be repaired. Bluestar suggested that a technician come and verify the crack, and the technician said it is not safe and has never seen this kind of problem before.

Because this is a gas appliance, a breach in the oven liner raises serious safety concerns: products of combustion, including carbon monoxide, and high-temperature gases can escape into the appliance insulation and surrounding cabinetry rather than venting normally. I am also concerned about elevated exterior surface temperatures, heat transfer to the adjacent combustible wall, and increased fire risk. The crack represents a structural/metallurgical failure of the core oven chassis on a premium appliance marketed as built to last decades, occurring within approximately 7 years of normal use.

Incident/injury: No injury has occurred. I am reporting this as a potential safety hazard.

Photos attached: Yes - images of the cracked oven cavity.

I am filing this report so that CPSC can track whether other 2019-era BlueStar units show the same structural failure pattern.

The product, in the report: On January 6, 2026, we contacted the manufacturer, Prizer-Painter Stove Works (BlueStar), providing the specific Model BSP48 and Serial Number 1507549 to request correct part numbers for a burner replacement. Despite having this specific data, the manufacturer failed to disclose that this unit is subject to an active federal safety recall (Recall 18-218) for a serious burn and fire hazard. This defect causes gas to accumulate and “flashback” when the convection fan is used, which is the direct cause of the melted burner found during inspection. Because the manufacturer withheld this critical safety information during a professional inquiry, we almost installed a new burner without the safety fix. Thank God BlueStar didn’t bother adding a new gasket, thats needed to be installed with the new burner. So, I started really digging into this BlueStar model.

What I discovered was shocking. That I had emailed them with exact numbers, and they did NOTHING!

The product, in the report: Model: RNB304BSS Serial Number: 1401400 Fuel Type: Natural Gas

I am writing to report a critical safety failure in my BlueStar RNB Series range that poses an immediate fire and explosion hazard in my home.

    Unit Information:

    Model: RNB304BSS

    Serial Number: 1401400

    Fuel Type: Natural Gas

Description of Defect: My unit is exhibiting the exact “delayed ignition” failure described in Safety Recall #18-218. When the oven is in use, gas accumulates and ignites forcefully (explodes). This is not a standard mechanical wear issue; it is a dangerous safety defect.

The force and heat of these ignitions have caused significant internal damage:

Melted Manifold: As shown in the attached photos, the gas manifold has melted and become disrupted/deformed due to the flares.

Melted Convection Fan: I previously had to replace the convection fan at a cost of $450 because the original fan melted completely.

Recurring Igniter Failure: I have also had to replace the oven igniter recently due to this issue.

Request for Remedy: Although my unit (manufactured in 2014) predates the specific date range listed in Recall #18-218, the failure mode is identical to the recalled units. The unit is unsafe to operate.

    I am requesting that BlueStar:

Provide the necessary remedy/repair kit to fix the delayed ignition and replace the melted manifold immediately.

Assess the stove for other melted or unsafe parts. I suspect the entire oven compartment is compromised.

Please contact me immediately regarding the next steps to make this unit safe.

The product, in the report: 48” residential kitchen stove, gas over gas, with 2 ovens, 6 open burners and a griddle.

While baking pastry using the large gas oven in a Bluestar stove, model RNB486GSS, the door became stuck shut. Fearing that the pastry would ignite, we had no alternative but to yank the door open. As a result the door and hinge are bent and the door cannot be closed. Searching the internet, I found others who reported that the hinges of their Bluestar oven became inoperative with the same outcome.

The product, in the report: Blue Star 30 inch natural gas wall oven. Glass French doors. Stainless steel. Model# BWO30AGS

We purchased a Blue Star wall oven which was installed properly. The manufacturer is Prizer Painter Stoveworks, Inc. 318 June Avenue Blandon, PA 19510. However, the oven generates excessive heat towards the kitchen cabinets causing much damage to the cabinets. There is no way this should happen. We have repeatedly asked the manufacturer verbally and in writing in the past to send a technician to our house to inspect the oven to determine first hand what is needed to correct the problem. We did not think it was too much to ask of them. All we are getting is avoidance and a runaround. They refuse to acknowledge the problem. Because of the excessive heat problem we limited the use of our oven. We are concerned that this excessive heat could cause a fire. We paid over $4,000 for the oven. It is not just an inconvenience but also is a real safety concern.

The product, in the report: 48 “ gas oven, open flame, Blue Star RNB486GSS, Serial Number 1703602

At 5:00 PM, 27 April, 2020 my daughter [REDACTED] opened up the main stove on the 48 inch Blue Star (RNB486GSS, Serial Number 1703602) and was blown back by gas which also burned her eyes. The light and convection was on in the main oven of this 48 inch range.

[REDACTED] heard a pop, felt heat and had gas hit her eyes and was knocked back and fell over into the refrigerator door which is directly to her left and suffered yet another serious concussion. She left early to bed and was unable to /still is unable to function normally to date (This was some 2 weeks ago and is another serious concussion).

NOTE: (My daughter had a serious concussion last year in 2019 and suffers from debilitating headaches, concentration, vision, and cognitive function. She is a senior at [REDACTED] University and is trying to graduate with this injury which was due to the product failures identified by the company.

The vendor and the local distributor did not contact me with a recall, notice or backfit. No notice has come to myself, the owner of the stove, further , while the serial number range is in the window in your [REDACTED] the above model is not in the notice (RNB486GSS), Serial Number 1703602.

I was a GS14-801 senior Federal Safety and Reliability Engineer for DoD, NRC, and DOE. The FRACAS system failed here. Their is gross black oxide on the igniter. (I left this in situ - does anyone want to document this further, would you want to document the As-Is installation?) It seems that air currents can be addressed with a cowling or an interlock over to the thermistor, etc.. There is a lot of volume in this oven and this is dangerous. Also dangerous is the shallow depth of the grease pan (1.2 depth from the griddle whereby the excess grease can pool to the bottom of the stove and cause a future major grease fire)!.

I plan to assess my daughters damages/furtherance of her brain injury and concussion risk/her inability to interview and take her first job, etc.. I will provide this document as part of a claim against Prizer-Painter Stove Works. I think you should contact everyone in the serialized product mix and rework the recall as my model was not in it but the physics of failure look to readily apply. Regards, [REDACTED] [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Gas oven

Caller stated that her tenant reported to her that he experienced similar problems of recall#18-218. Hazard: Use of the convection oven fan during pre-heating or broiling can cause accumulated gas to ignite, posing a burn hazard to consumers when oven door is opened.

While preheating the oven he opened the oven door to place something in and a ball of flame erupted into his face. He went to the emergency room at NYU for 1st degree burns to his face. He received treatment and was released for follow up with his physician.

Caller is not sure of the date of purchase or from which establishment the unit was purchased. The manufacturer will be contacted later.

Caller is concerned that these ranges are still having the same problems and should be recalled.

We bought a Bluestar Appliance RCS30SBV2NG in October 2018. This same model had a recall in Canada in September 2018: https://www.bluestarcooking.com/safety-recall-notice/

By September 2019, our unit had developed multiple gas leaks. It took Bluestar over a month to get service people out after we first requested a warranty repair in October 2019. Despite multiple repair attempts by BS, the gas leaks persisted, and Bluestar was often slow to provide the missing parts. Then in January 2020, the stove had an internal fire on a gas shutoff valve in the control panel, terrifying my wife and two kids, and rendering the stove unsafe to use. I had to completely disconnect the stove’s gas and electric to stop the fire. Bluestar then offered to replace the stove, to their credit. But now, one month after the control panel fire, we’re still waiting for a replacement, still without a stove, cooking for a family of four on a hot plate in the middle of winter. And Bluestar is giving us the runaround and failing to return calls and emails.

The product, in the report: Blue Star Range 30 inch, RCS Range, 4 burner, 15 K LP RCS304BV2LP

Purchased a Blue Star Range Model # RCS304BV2LP on 3/02/19 from Grand Appliance and TV, Wauwatosa, WI 53266. 414-476-3000 Because of construction issues, it was not delivered until 9/16/19 After installation smelled gas but was assured by the Delivery persons this is normal on installation. The range is unused as house renovation not complete. 10/01/19 Plumber in to do other work smells gas. Grand TV notified and after consulting with Blue Star sends out a repairman who locates a leaky part. 12/24/19 new part installed. House is still unoccupied but smells faintly of gas. On 1/10/20 visited house and the smell of gas was strong in the kitchen and basement. 1/11/20 Blue Star sent out a repairman to disconnect the range from the gas.

I have requested a refund or a new range complete with year warranty from Blue Stat but they have not returned my calls.

I would like to emphasize again- This is a completely new Range which has never been used.

I cannot move into this remodeled house because of this issue.

The product, in the report: BlueStar Stovetop Model RGTNB364GSS Serial Number 1410489 Gas rangetop with four burners and a built-in griddle.

Our BlueStar Stovetop Model RGTNB364GSS’s griddle started to light itself and heat up when turned completely off this weekend. This is a gas stovetop and we heard the sound of gas turn on and the flame start-up. As this was the weekend and Bluestar was not open to call, we shut off the gas and electric to the stovetop so it would not turn on by itself while we slept.

We turned the gas and electric back on to cook breakfast the next morning and the griddle immediately lit up again on its own. We checked the knob again to ensure it was completely off and shut off the gas and electric again.

Today, Monday morning we called BlueStar customer service and were told it was probably a runaway thermostat and that it would need to be replaced. They said there was no way to turn off the thermostat, so when it malfunctioned this could happen. After a little discussion, they agreed to send a new thermostat to be installed.

I am concerned that there is no way to turn off the thermostat. Unlike the range burners, which don’t receive gas when the knob is turned off, the griddle’s gas supply, is controlled by the thermostat, so that when it has an issue the griddle can not be turned off. It seems like when the knob is turned to off it should shut power to the thermostat, or there should be a switch to turn off the griddle/thermostat. This is a huge burn/fire risk and we are hoping this can be fixed.

The product, in the report: BlueStar Nova Series gas range

The submitter is reporting her range for posing a burn and fire hazard. While searching online she came across recall # 18-218 and noticed she is experiencing similar issues but her serial # is not included in the recall.

In August of 2017 she preheated the oven on bake to 350 degrees and noticed that the oven became extremely hot after a few minutes. She indicated that the unit failed to shut off and she had to turn off the circuit breaker. The oven door knob was extremely hot that she could not touch it and it had burn damages.

She contacted a technician and had the unit repaired. The boiler igniter switch and the access panel were replaced. A month later she had a similar incident and she contacted the tech again. The tech replaced the gas valve and control panel.

During the past month the unit is having additional issues. She states that the oven is now failing to heat and stay on. While in use the oven and fan turn off but the gas is still emitting. The home fills up with gas. She also indicated that the stove top burners are heating to different temperatures.

She left voicemails to the firm’s recall hotline (800-449-8691) last week but she never received a call back. She plans to contact the firm’s customer service to request assistance with repairs.

The product, in the report: Built In 30” all gas wall oven.

When using our Blue Star 30” Natural Gas Wall Oven over the last 2 years we noticed our CO detector located on the 1st floor of our home would begin showing the presence of CO (numbers would climb from 0) and actually alarm if the oven was On for more than 3 hours. For the first many months we just thought it was do to the combustion of natural gas and since the majority of the time the oven is utilized for less than 1 hour ignored the concern. Recently however I was preparing to get the oven ready for a good cleaning. When removing the bottom plate that is over the burner I noticed the plate under it which I believe is formed specifically to equally distribute the heat from the burner throughout the oven was separated from the bottom plate and actually laying on the burner tube. Further investigation revealed that this formed plate and the bottom plate were held together with what appeared to have been 8 rivets. The rivets had all failed and were found on the very bottom near the burner tube. This permitted this formed plate to fall unto the actual burner tube and I believe prevent correct and complete combustion. I also believe the rivets failed do to the stress of the expansion and contraction of the formed plate during heating and than cooling. Model # BWO30AGS. Serial # 1106183.

Not as much as a safety concern (at least I don’t think so) I also noticed the convection oven fan was not turning when powered On. It just hummed. My wife has been assuming that when she turned the fan switch On that it was operating. After removing the fan from its housing in the rear of the oven I found a blade on the fan blade behind the plate (not the blades in the oven compartment) had several blades either warped from heat or bent from an unknown reason causing the blade to make contact with one of the motors supports brackets thus preventing it from turning.

The product, in the report: 30” Gas Cooktop with 4 Burners, Electronic Ignition and Heavy Duty Control Knobs.

On November 5, 2014 I order a BlueStar Cooktop of Reading , PA (Model# RBCT304BSS-NAT, SN:1409033) for my wife. I received the cooktop on December 16, 2014. The cooktop was installed December 19,2014 by Master plumber [REDACTED] licence# [REDACTED](Maryland). The purchase price was 1,652 purchased from Plessers of Babylon, NY.

Upton installation, my wife noticed safety issues with the cooktop. They are as follows: 1) top two burns work differently than the indicators show. The top burner knob indicates that it should turn on the burner at the top right, but it turns on the top left. The next knob down from the top indicates that it should turn on the top left, but it turns on the top right. 2) The iron grates are uneven. Creating an unsafe cooking surface (i.e. a pots contents splash about.). 3) The printed knobs indicators are upside down. 4) The starting point for the knobs is away from the cook (user) making it difficult to know if the burner is on. (My wife has already burned herself twice because of this flaw. She as also left the burners turned on thinking that they were off due to the faulty indicators.

All of this information has been passed on the retailer and the manufacturer. The retailer response was we’re only willing to replace the iron grates. The manufacturer’s response was “that’s the way it was designed.” I feel your agency needs to address these issues because these items are consumer safety issues. Please address these issues before someone gets hurt!

The product, in the report: Model BWO24AGS, Blue Star 24 inch wall oven

I purchased the Blue Star Model BWO24AGS for my new kitchen. It was purchased earlier this year. From the outset the brolier has not worked properly. When the door is opened, a large flame occurs, with a sudden burst that is frightening. I reported this, and BlueStar advised a service call, which was done. The broiler element was replaced, the and the problem continued. It was then determined that the “connection” between the wall connection and oven was not adjusted properly. When readjusted, the broiler appeared to work properly but the original problem recurred. I am concerned that I will be exposed to an open flame, as I am disabled, and sitting and my face is right at the door.
