The product, in the report: Amana stove and range mod. # agr5330bas3. S/N vea3905606 black, full size
I own an Amana stove mod # agr5330ba53, it has a defective flame sensing package, if the burner knob is slightly moved gas will be released from the burner without an ignition source being present. This happened as someone reaching into the microwave above the stove accidently leaned on the burner knob just slightly but enough for the gas the start flowing, this is just before the knob reaches the ignite position. Gas started to fill up the kitchen before anyone noticed and an hour later we had to evacuate the house once we smelled the gas. Gas should never flow unless an ignition source is present, maybe this is a MFG. way to cut costs. The ovens main burner will not flow gas unless an ignition source is present, should be the same for the stove top. I have reached out to Amana for them to correct the problem and there response was to purchase knob locks or something like that. I shouldn’t have purchase anything to mask a defective appliance. This is an extreme hazard and could have turned out much worse. Thank you for your time.

Pots and pans sliding off gas stove burner grates. A medium size pot of water was boiling on a front burner. The product, in the report: Gas range with oven
The range has 2 large front burners and smaller burners in the rear.
When the consumer uses the microwave, located over the range, she has leaned on the range control knobs and they have turned on accidentally. One has to push in the ignition and turn the knob for them to ignite.
The consumer has experienced approximately 6 of these incidents. She has not been injured, but said the potential is high.
She called the manufacturer and reported the matter to them. They arranged for technician to come out and examine the range. When the technician came out, he inspected the range and said it was operating as designed. There was nothing he could do.
The consumer spoke with another person, who told her she could purchase covers for the knobs. However, she believes that the manufacturer should provide them and if they make covers, they are aware of the problem.

The product, in the report: Amana gas range (white), Model AGR4230BAW, Serial # VE64572357 - adapted for propane.
We purchased an Amana range, model AGR4230BAW0, serial #VE64572357 from Whirlpool Corporation’s Whirlpool Inside Pass website as part of a settlement for a Whirlpool range that could not be repaired. After using the Amana range for 5.5 years, we noticed that the oven would ignite, but food inside it would not get hot. This happened for the second time on May 8, 2022. We called for a service call under our extended warranty, but were immediately informed that AIG, who held the contract, would buy it out instead. When disconnecting the range so it could be hauled away as part of our new range delivery, we noticed 2 substantial burn marks on kitchen floor, right under the oven. The floor had been purchased just a few months before the range and was undamaged when the range was installed. Had we continued using the oven, we could have had a serious kitchen fire.

The product, in the report: Amana 5.1 cu. ft. Gas Range in White
Stove top burner grates on gas cooking range unsafe. Burner grates are manufactured with a slippery, non stick material , and top of burner grate is uneven causing pan/pots to wobble and slip off grate while cooking. Very high potential for scalding or burns to anyone cooking. I have tried various pans with non skid bottoms but all pans slip very easily off grates onto floor or side of stove.

The product, in the report: gas range
The consumer stated that she received the product in Oct, 2021 from the home warranty company. She noticed right away that the outside of the product gets too hot to the touch.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer who sent a technician to her home. The technician installed a insulation kit on the door of the oven. A new gasket was also installed. The caller was also advised by the technician and the manufacturer that this is a known problem with the model of gas range that she has.
The consumer stated that since then, she only uses the oven for a short period of time.
On Monday, 1/3, the consumer used the oven to bake. The setting was on 430 degrees. The baking time was 1 1/2 hours.
The next morning the consumer noticed that the vinyl finish on her cabinets, which are on both sides of the product, were melted.
The consumer contacted the manufacturer to notify them of the incident.

The product, in the report: 5.1 cu. ft. Gas Range
Purchased an Amana Gas Range at Home Depot in March, 2021, delivered in April, 2021. Noticed that all the burners had uneven flames. a portion of the flames shoot outside and over the pan/pot. This can result in a fire on the stove when frying. (almost did). The stove is under manufacture’s warranty. A Technican was sent out 4 times. He changed the burners, other parts and the gas pressure. He could not fix. He called Amana, sent videos of the flames. Amana told him nothing was wrong, this was the design. The Technician expressed his concerns about the safety.

The product, in the report: Amana self-cleaning BigOven gas range
I purchased an Amana Self-Cleaning Big Oven, model# ACF3375AW, serial#0010183690, when I purchased my house in 2016.
I pressed “broil” on the stove. When I opened it a couple of minutes later, a fireball came out. When I tried to use the self-clean feature, the smell of gas was very strong. I found this recall information: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2001/CPSC-Maytag-Corp-Announce-Recall-to-Repair-of-Amana-Gas-Ranges When I called the number on the recall notice last Thursday, they said someone from the buyback/exchange program would be contacting me in 24-48 business hours. When I called this evening after not hearing from anyone, the gal on the other line told me their systems had been down all last week, so there was no record of my initial call. She then told me my stove was not eligible even though the model and serial numbers were included in the recall notice. It seems like my oven is experiencing the same issues, even though the lady on the phone said my stove was made after those included in the recall. Do I have any recourse?
Thanks in advance.

The product, in the report: This was an Amana gas stove, which we bought roughly 7 years ago. It was an Amana 3Q-inch, 5.0 cu.ft, self-cleaning stove. #AGR303MFB There is also another number, which I’m not sure is a serial number: W10198635B
We bought an Amana gas stove about 7 years ago that had a self-cleaning feature.
Last Saturday, April22, 2017, we put the stove on self-cleaning mode- we had done this before, but not very often.
We later noticed that the self-cleaning appeared to be taking a long time; we began it at 1 in the afternoon, and it was still going at 5.
I ran a quick errand at about 5, and was gone for about 45 minutes. When I returned, a wooden butcher block we kept on top of the stove to hold a set of knives had caught fire. The flames were 18 inches high, and the stove’s digital control panel had melted. The stove’s oven door was also locked shut.
In addition, the smoke alarm in the house was sounding, and the entire first floor was full of smoke when my daughter and I entered the house.
I put out the fire by grabbing the butcher block with a large towel, and tossing it out into the yard.

While using my oven to cook potatoes, the area of below the oven floor where you can see flames through what look like vent holes caught fire.. After the oven fire was put out and cooled off, MY husband was able to lift up the over floor plate. HE said it looked like the heating element overheated and caught fire. MY husband said there was melted plastic wiring. We have never used anything, but glass and metal baking pans in our oven. The oven is less than 2 years old and shouldn’t have done this. OUr home could’ve burned down if we hadn’t been able to put out the fire. Something needs to be done. This oven is unsafe! Amana Stove and their other products should be recalled befor they kill someone.

The product, in the report: gas range with oven
When the igniter for the oven is turned on, it does not ignite. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries, before the oven comes on. The problem started a year ago and has been consistently happening since that time.
The consumer contacted a [REACTED] technician to come out an look at the oven. The consumer previously had a [REDACTED] range and this tech. serviced it in the past, so she felt comfortable having his look at this one. A tech. came out in 6/2016 and said that he has seen this problem before and other technicians have mentioned it as well. The tech. told the consumer that there is a problem with the air-flow to the igniter, which causes the delay for the igniter. The tech. said that there is a fine piece of metal in the igniter components, which is paper thin. They bend this metal to help with the air-flow, which is what he did for the consumer.
After the repair, there was some improvement, but the problem continued to occur.
The consumer is concerned that this could present a carbon monoxide hazard or a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Amana gas (propane) oven with cook top, Model # ACF3335AC, Serial # 0011196860, manufactured in 2001. The damage is identical to the picture in incident number 20140310-B2DD8-1391011
When I used the Broil the first time, within the past 6 months, it smelled like burning plastic but didn’t realize it was the inside top trim to the door that had melted until afterwards. I tried and tried to find a replacement part but it is no longer available, then, just before attempting to self clean, I found that the range had been recalled because of the broil and self clean functions. The melted portion lets heat out and makes the knobs to the stove top extremely hot and now it smells whenever I use the oven.

The product, in the report: Amana stove, installed July 2013. Model # AGR3311WDW2 Serial # VE32803633
The range was installed in an apartment building we own and manage. We received an emergency call from a resident saying her gas oven would not turn off. When the maintenance person arrived, the apartment was hot throughout and the stove itself was too hot to touch without a glove. As reported, it would not turn off with the controls. The maintenance person turned off the gas at the source to stop the stove from heating. We have removed the stove and placed it in storage.
Had the tenant not stayed home, it appears the stove would have continued to heat up until it started a fire. Whirlpool has been contacted but we’ve received no response.

The product, in the report: Gas Oven
10/2014 Consumer stated that the gas company had came out and tested for CO and the levels were very high around 560 which is emitting from the gas oven. The oven emits CO whenever the oven is turned on. 10/2014 She contacted the repair service (A&E appliance) and someone was sent out, she stated that he informed her had he known it was about CO, they would not have came out. She was told to contact the manufacturer. She contacted the manufacturer and she was informed by an agent that she would need a CO detector, however, she did not receive any from the company and she has been calling back since but is unable to speak to someone.
The gas oven is in a rental home that she rented to her tenant, the tenant has a small child and she is concerned for their safety. Consumer is frustrated that she has been complaining about the range and is unable to get a replacement or repair to the issues she is having. This incident started around early October 2014. The product, in the report: 4 burner gas range
04/01/2013-The consumer stated that she was using the broiler for about 15 minutes when she noticed that the broiler handle was bubbled and melted. When the consumer tried to manage it, the handle fell off the broiler. Immediately, the consumer turned off the broiler. The manufacturer was contacted that month.
The manufacturer scheduled a repair technician to install a new broiler handle free of charge because the range was still under warranty. About one week after, the repair technician installed a replacement broiler handle. The consumer never used the broiler again.
05/20/14- The consumer stated that she used the oven baking at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes. She did not noticed anything out of the ordinary. The next morning the consumer “brushed against” the broiler handle and the handle fell to the floor. When the consumer inspected the fallen handle, she noticed that it was bubbled and melted in the same way as in 04/2013. Also, she noticed that the oven door does not have hinges .Furthermore, the consumer is concerned that every time she uses cookware in the range’s burners they slide. She is also concerned that every time she is using the oven, the surface of the outside of the oven door overheats and the surrounding granit counter gets hot to the touch. She believes that this oven does not have enough insulation to prevent the heat from emanating to the surrounding area. Immediately, the consumer contacted the manufacturer to express her concerns.
5/21/14- The consumer contacted the manufacturer and expressed her concerns regarding the missing oven door hinges. The manufacturer offered to schedule a repair technicians visit to install the missing hinges for a fee. The consumer declined the offer, as it should have been a standard issue.
No property damage or injury were reported.
The consumer thinks this product poses a fire, burn and injury hazard.
No relevant CPSC recalls were found.

My wife turned on our Amana 30” gas oven to pre-heat it in order to toast a breaksfast bagel. The oven went to LOCK cycle and then started (what appeared to be) the self cleaning cycle operation. Thick Black smoke started to pour out of the front control panel and flames could be seen inside the oven. The plastic control panel began to smolder and melt with black smoke pouring out of the top of the stove at which time I ran to the basement to turn off the gas line to the the stove. The fire department was called.

The product, in the report: Amana model ACF3375A gas range
In April, 2001, we purchased an Amana model ACF3375A gas range for $705 from Metro Builders Supply in Springfield. We now face the prospect of buying a replacement because of a faulty door hinge (part number 31946302), for which there are no available replacement parts.
Because of the faulty hinge, the oven door will not close tightly and heat escapes from above the door, creating both a fire and injury risk. The burner control knobs above the oven door get too hot to touch.
I have had a repairman here who says the parts are not available. Extensive searching online has confirmed that. Obviously there was a design fault so severe that all the available replacement parts have been utilized.

The product, in the report: Amana gas stove with oven.
We bought a new gas stove with oven It’s an Amana model AGR4433XDW2. The burner grates are very slippery and the corners are rounded. On several occasions while cooking have had pans slide off the grates. I have contacted Amana directly and their response was to hold onto the handle the of the pan or pot. This I have documented this action. Apparently they don’t cook. While cooking I often use several pots and pans. No one has been injured at this point. But it’s only matter of time. I feel that they should provide grates with square corners that they currently provide with other models. They seem to have no concern which I find unacceptable. If I or a member of my family gets injured I will pursue the issue through legal channels.

The product, in the report: Amana 4.4 Cubic Foot Gas Range
THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THAT I’M TRYING TO SEND THIS REPORT -- YOUR WEBSITE LOCKS UP AND KICKS US OUT EACH TIME WE TRY TO UPLOAD THE PHOTO --- SO LET’S START AGAIN !!!
Good Afternoon. My name is [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] / [REDACTED].
I purchased a brand-new gas range from the Home Depot on November 11, 2013 by ordering it ONLINE.
The gas range is an Amana 4.4 cubic foot range in white, and was on sale for $298. I paid $340 in total for taxes, delivery, installation and haul-away of the old range.
Amana’s Tel: 800-843-0304 / Model: AGR 3311 WDW / Serial” VE34006515
The first red flag area was when the delivery guys “bolted” the gas range to my kitchen wall with metal brackets. They said ... “This model has a danger of tipping forward.” This was not disclosed on the Home Depot site but is only the minor issue.
The main issue are the GRATES. Grates are the large “black iron” things that you set your pots and pans on with the fire buring beneath.
Grates need to be manufactured WITH ROUGH TRACTION ... in such a way that the pots and pans DO NOT SLIDE OFF the stove-top.
This model, however, does NOT provide SAFE TRACTION. Hysterically, the grates are COATED WITH PORCELAIN ... which makes the grates SO SLIPPERY ... that an pot with boiling liquid can SLIDE OFF the stove with just the SLIGHTED nudge.
Try to picture a porcelain vase ... it’s smooth, shiny and slippery. Well, that’s what they’ve coated the grates with !!!
Last Friday I was boiling water to make mashed potatoes. I poured the potato flakes into the pot with one hand and stirred the boiling water with the other. I’ve done this many times before with my old [REDACTED] range, which had ROUGH iron grates.
While stirring, the pot DID NOT STAY on the grate. THE POT SLID OFF twice and some of the hot liquid spilled on the floor and on my leg.
What if a pot slides off and there’s a toddler standing beneath. (They’re always hoverung around the mother when she’s cooking in the kitchen -- right?)
I called Amana and asked for replacement grates WITHOUT the porcelain coating and they said they have none.
They also did not care that their pots slip and slide around - not even when I presented them with the “toddler scenario.”
Really?
Then I told them that --- to make the grates safer for me to use -- I would have my handyman FILE OFF the porcelain coating with a steel file -- to which the customer service rep said, “Oh no, don’t do that; you’ll ruin the coating!”
Apparently their coating is more important that consumer safety.
Then I wrote a review with the online Home Depot review page. The review came back this morning as “Rejected.” Home Depot is also not interested in the danger of this product.
This brings us back to the minor issue that the gas range has a propensity to tip forward. I’ve never heard of any range doing that.
If you would like me to send you a video of this problem, let me know.
Thanks for your time.

The product, in the report: Amana 30” gas range. White in color. Model Number AGR5844VDW. Serial number R21636298
On the 11th of September, 2013, I purchased an Amana Gas Range from Upton Appliances in Bullhead City, Arizona. This item was delivered and set-up to my home on the 12th of September. After insuring that the stove worked properly the installer left and I was happy with the situation. That is, I was happy until I used the stove top for the first time. It was then that I noticed that the surface area of the stove top got very hot. I don’t mean just warm as you would expect but extremely hot. Hot enough to possibly cause a burn. I am not referring to the actual burners nor to area immediately around the burners, but the entire surface area of the range. If there were small children in my house I would not feel safe using this stove.
I have spent the last two and a half hours on the phone trying to get help with this problem What I am told is that this is normal operation and there is nothing to worry about. To me when a product, during “normal” operation gets hot enough to burn skin something is wrong.
For your information I called the following numbers and spoke with the agents listed:

Whirlpool customer service [REDACTED] ([REDACTED] - note that this person did try to get a tech to come to my house)

The product, in the report: 20” freestanding gas range; white; four stove-top burners plus oven; electronic igniter
12/13/12: After using the oven to bake, I TURNED OFF THE KNOB TO TURN OFF THE OVEN. HOWEVER, THE OVEN CONTINUED TO HEAT, GETTING HOTTER AND HOTTER UNTIL THE SMOKE ALARM IN MY APARTMENT SOUNDED. THE SUPERINTENDENT IN MY APARTMENT BUILDING DISCONNECTED THE GAS SUPPLY. HOWEVER, THE IGNITER CONTINUED TO BURN. HE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE POWER LINE IN ORDER FOR THE IGNITER TO TURN OFF. Two service calls were made--Whirlpool and Home Depot insist a fifth service call must be made in order to repair and reassess the problem.
12/2/12: WHILE BAKING, THE OVEN FLAME WENT UP AND DOWN UNCONTROLLABLY FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT 30 MINUTES UNTIL I TURNED THE OVEN OFF. This was clearly NOT a matter of the thermostat raising and lowering the flame in order to maintain a normal baking temperature. (No service call was made.)
January 2012: Within a week of purchasing the oven, WHEN I TURNED THE OVEN ON TO BAKE, THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE AND THEN A FIERY GLOW AGAINST THE KITCHEN WALL BEHIND THE OVEN, ON THE RIGHT SIDE, NEAR THE BASEBOARD. Two service calls were made and the problem did not seem to recur.

The product, in the report: Amana 5.0 cu. ft. Self-Cleaning Gas Range Model AGR5844VDW
The Amana 5 cu.ft Self Cleaning Gas Range, model AGR5844VDW2 is unsafe, in that the knobs on the front of the stove do not lock in the off position and easily flip to the gas-on position before finding the “light” position, causing gas to emit into the room without lighting. In other words, this has happened to me twice when just brushing by with a towel or bag of lettuce, without my knowledge until the gas smell filled the house.
The first time was when I wiped down the surface of the range. I had a cold and was home alone for several hours before my husband came home and noticed the “funny smell”, which due to my cold I could not smell. We evacuated and aired out the house.
The second time was when I carried items from the refrigerator and it was probably the bag of lettuce that brushed against the knobs. There is no noise when it happens, as it doesn’t turn all the way to the “light” function wherein the clicking sound happens until the unit fires up. Again my husband happened to be in the kitchen, and after the first incident watches the knobs more closely and noticed that it happened again. We caught it before we had to evacuate, or worse before we lit something else in the vicinity.
The range was purchased at The Home Depot in The Dalles, Oregon, on May 14, 2011.

The product, in the report: Gas range
The caller stated that the gas range right burner displays an ignition failure. It would not ignite and when it did it would make a noise similar to a minor explosion. There would also be an odor of gas while attempting to use the burner. The grids on the burners are too smooth which causes containers (pots and pans) to slide off posing a burn hazard.
The manufacturer was contacted and a service rep was sent out on 10/24 but the problem was not resolved. She was informed that someone would get back in touch with her but no one did.
The caller is concerned that this range is a safety hazard and should be reported.

The consumer stated that the dials at burner top of the gas range are easily manipulated by the slightest contact. The dials point outward and can be turned on by a slight touch and brushing against the dials. The consumer stated that the gas escapes and is released into the air but does not ignite to indicate to the consumer that the gas is on.
The consumer woke up in the middle of the night and found that range was on and gas filled his home. The consumer stated that this happened again today by merely walking past the range too closely. The consumer was not harmed by the product as the consumer could smell the gas discharge. The consumer has removed the knobs from the range. The consumer stated that the product does not appear damaged. The consumer has not called the fire department or his home insurance company. The consumer has not contacted the firm or the retailer.

Caller was sitting in another room from her kitchen March 13, 2012 around 1:45PM Central Time when she heard a loud noise, she got up thinking that a dish or something had fallen in the kitchen or a window had been broken.
She went to the kitchen and found that the glass in her oven door had broken/exploded with glass being immediately in front of the range and also three feet away.
She had not used her oven at all today, she had used the two front burners earlier in the day.
She began cleaning the glass up so that her cats didn’t get into it.
She would like to alert the public, she states that her range was purchased in 1995 and that she would expect many issues to arrive but not glass explosion. She believes she is fortunate not to have been in the kitchen at that time.Consumer Added: I contacted Amana. All they were interested in if I had insurance on the stove and said there was no recall on this product and if I wanted someone to come out to investigate it would cost me money for them to look at it. I said NO Thank You!

The product, in the report: 20” gas stove
Amana 20” gas range model# AGG222VDW0 , handle is continuously burning off - 14 mo old 10/2010 - flames come up on the inside from side when broiler ignites.
Caller purchased gas stove in October 2010, used the stove but not the broiler portion until May 2nd, 2010, then she lit broiler it had been burning for 15 minutes when caller reached for handle to pull open and handle came off in her hand, she noticed that it was soft and had melted.
She called retailer who sent service repair the same day, they sent tech out May 16th, 2011 who replaced the handle for the 2nd time. She also sent letters to the manufacturer and to CPSC in Bethesda but received no response from either.
In July 2011 caller’s daughter turned the broiler on to prepare toast but again the handle melted within 15 minutes.
Caller contacted retailer same day, repair tech was sent to caller’s home again within a few days, handle was replaced for the second time.
Caller and her daughter avoided use of broiler until the Holiday Season in 2011 the broiler was again heated and the handle melted again. Caller contacted the retailer who told her that she would have to pay service charge, that they were not replacing again. She called manufacturer who reiterated the message from the retailer.
She was advised by the Consumer Protection Agency in Lansing, Michigan who referred her to CPSC to file a report.
Caller paid $500 for this small 20” stove and is asking for either “successful” repair of her stove with handle that doesn’t melt or replacement of stove at manufacturer expense.
She states that this stove is a fire safety hazard, a burn hazard and she is afraid to use the broiler.

The product, in the report: Amana Gas Range, 30 inch, labeling on the stove was “The Big One” referring to the oven size. It had 4 burners, 2 medium power, one high and one simmer.
I ran 2 hours of a cleaning cycle on my Amana, 30 inch width, Gas Range. The model name on the stove was The Big One, referring to the oven size. The front edge (the top and just inside) of my oven door melted, and the knobs on the front of the stove were discolored and the plastic part of the knob formed a drip. The door and top of the stove were extremely hot. Since I had run the vent fan above the stove during the cleaning process, fumes were not a problem.
The damage was visibly obvious so I did not touch the overheated surfaces avoiding burns.

The product, in the report: Gas Range/ cooktop 4 burners
Consumer stated that she was awaken by lightning bolt and then she was alerted by her smoke and CO detectors and then she discovered that the gas range was leaking. The gas valve was disconnected to prevent further leak, the house was ventilated and repair service was contacted.
6/2011 Consumer contacted the repair service rep, he came out and advised her that a pin hole wa discovered in the line which seems as if the electrical components was hit by the lightning which caused it arc and this produce a leak in the gas line.
Consumer had to discard of the range because it was irrepairable, she stated that she thinks the manufacturer is out of business and that another company had taken over.
Consumer feels that this gas range design is unsafe and should be reported. Her biggest concern is that had they not been home to shut off the gas valve, the gas would have built up and possibly caused the house to blow up.

The product, in the report: Kitchen gas range stove/AMANA brand US company.
The Amana Stove is a gas range that has knobs per burner or gas burners that don’t hav elights to display the gas is turned on. My expereinve is my toddler turned a knob but since there is no light as most stoves have I couldn’t tell until I felt nauseous we wwwwent outside for fresh air and i decide dto clean and noticed the knob turned slightly just enough to let gas leak and make us nauseous and with runny noses. this is unsafe and dangerous someone should ban the sale of such stoves and also they received my emial complaining about the unsafetiness of it.Ii am hoping you take the time to check the websiote whcih shows the model i have is not old at all it is brand new in fact all their apparent stoves don’t have lights or signal they are turned on to release gas in any way.
Very deadly very dangerous should be US banned. To resolve i took all knobs off to disable my toddler from being able to turn the knob at all ever again.I just put one on to turn the fire on then take it off until I need to turn it off etc.

No one hurt Made Aug 20, 2011, published by CPSC Sep 13, 2011
The product, in the report: Gas range
I recently bought an Amana gas range, Model AGR5844VDW. I’ve used it approximately 4 times. The knobs on the front of the range are extremely easy to turn on inadvertently. They protrude rather far from the surface of the stove, they are pointed so they can catch on things, and you only need to push it in very slightly to turn the knob. Out of the 4 times I’ve used the range, I’ve unknowingly turned the gas on 3 times while either removing things from the stove or cleaning the stovetop. I didn’t realize the gas was turned on until we smelled gas in the house. Once it happened twice in one evening! The last time it happened, we didn’t realize it, and we woke up in the morning to our home filled with gas. It had been running all night. We also have a greyhound, who is the height of the stove knobs, so he could easily have bumped it with his nose and turned it on. A small child could very easily reach up and slightly turn the knob to get the gas going. We do not know how it got turned on the last time, but it could easily have blown up the house, it was that bad. We were afraid to turn on any fans because we didn’t want to create a spark and cause an explosion. We had to open the doors and windows and evacuate until it cleared up a little. The store we bought the appliance from (Frank’s Appliance in Bradley, IL) said they had a similar complaint from another customer. They called Amana and were told they made it that way because they got complaints from people with arthritis that it was too hard to turn the knobs, so they were standing by their product and would not do anything about it. (I guess they think it’s OK to take the risk of blowing up someone’s house, though!) While I was in the appliance store, I went with the owner to the floor model of the range, showed her how I had leaned slightly against the stove to clean the stovetop, and each time I did it in the store (4 to 5 times), it turned the burner on. I tried it on all the other brands of ranges in the store, and this was the only model where I could turn the gas on just by leaning against the stove. This is the MOST DANGEROUS thing I have ever had in my house, and it could very easily have killed the entire family, and Amana thinks it is not a problem. Frank’s Appliance agreed that it was a dangerous product and agreed to swap it out with a range made by another manufacturer. I am not normally a complainer, but this stove is going to kill someone, and I would feel terrible if I neglected to report the problems I know are inherent to the product. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Gas range /Oven/ 4 burners
Consumer stated that she started having problems with stove and then with lighting the gas stove approximately 2 years later, after she purchased it. The gasket was replaced. On 8/11/09, the ignitor was replaced. On 2/11/11, the motherboard was replaced.
May, June and July 5th, Flamingo Appliance came out 4 times to check the gas smell by me and on July 5, I was told the stove was working properly. On July 9 I called 911 and the fire department.
Consumer stated that while she was attempting to turn on the stove , approximately 7 mins later she opened the oven door and there was a ball of flame shooting towards her, she got out of the way for safety and then she saw that the flames dissipated, she then call the fire department, she received a fire report #[REDACTED], the unit was unplugged. Consumer believes that if she didn’t jump out of the way extremely fast, she could have been blinded.
Whirlpool has agreed to buy back the stove, but has not done so yet. They will not give her a receipt through their extended warranty company’s designated appliance repair company for 4 days before fire where they checked out stove and said it was fine. Flamingo appliance is in Miami, FL..
Whirlpool tells her through their representative by phone on July 25th “what do you want the receipt for anyhow?” She said she would read it again to her, and she did.

The product, in the report: Gas Oven/Range
Consumer stated whenever she would use the oven the range 4 burners would become overheated and there is a strong chemical odor. Release## 01-236 states “ during the broil and self-clean modes, the temperature of the storage drawer can become extremely high.” She is experiencing the same problem.
5/15/11 Consumer stated that she contacted the manufacturers and she was informed that her stove was out of warranty and although it was under recall they were unable to repair it but could replace with a voucher of $90.
Consumer is concern that she is unable to use a stove that has been recalled and the manufacturer is unwilling to honor the recall.

The product, in the report: Gas slide in range
The heating element in the oven makes a loud puff noise shortly after the appliance was installed in the home. He contacted retailer with concerns with the range. A service technician was sent out to home to adjust the burner and the gas but that did not resolve the problem.
He later tried to adjust the burner but was not able to. He then contacted the gas company and they tried to walk him through adjusting the gas/air mixture on the burner. The range was never repaired for the hazard. The oven door does not close properly there is a noticeable gap located at the top on the side.
When it’s in the closed position you can see the light in the oven through a crack. When the oven is powered in the on position there is a noticeable smell of gas coming from the range regardless of the temperature the unit is placed on. When the broiler is placed in the on position he does not notice the gas smell. The control panel is a touch panel and the plastic film slipped down into the metal back plate housing located on the rear of the range.

The product, in the report: Gas Cooktop
Thursday, April 14th, 2011 the electric connection to enable lighting of the gas cooktop created an electrical arc between the switch and the gas valve and caused a contained electrical fire. If there were flames they were contained within the unit, smoke residue was under containment when he checked it. Caller is calling because if the electrical connection had gone deep within the valve it could have caused a gas leak or gas fire with much more devastating consequences. Caller would like to request repair at manufacturer expense or at least honor the original pricing quoted to him for the parts.
