This unit is approximately ten (10) years old, it has never been abused in any way. Thankfully no one in kitchen at the time. Oven had not been used in 4 days prior to incident. Two loud crashes heard from upstairs. Self cleaning feature had only been used twice, years ago, because the fumes were intolerable.

The product, in the report: Electric range.

My two year old electric range had an electrical fire in the control panel. It lasted about 5 seconds and scorched my wall in several spots. Damage is minimal but I feel that it could of caused a serious house fire. The sparks and flames reached at most 6 inches.

This fire started when I pressed the bake unit on. There was no outside Electric surge and no other electrical problem seen in house.

The product, in the report: Tappan electric range with coil burners

in 2008 and 2009 We purchased Tappan Electric Ranges for our home and our rental units. As to date 3 of them have had problems where the main board goes out and the oven tempature just keeps getting hotter and hotter instead of being maintained where you set it. One of them was so bad that it had melted the back of the unit where the wires are located.
