The product, in the report: Electric Range

Kenmore Electric Range, replacing switch 3rd time due to shorting out with burning smell each time.

Caller purchased electric smooth top range late 2005 or early 2006 for house she & her husband own but that her son was moving into. There were no problems with it until November 2008 when her son began hearing popping and crackeling and then smelled burning. He reported this to caller and she contacted retailer for repair which she had to pay for because it had just gone out of warranty.

Around February 2010 the incident repeated itself, her son replaced switch this time.

The switch is beginning to pop and crackeling again so they know switch is going bad. Caller see’s this a a severe fire hazard and requests that it be investigated

Sears replaced, caller’s son replaced & is popping, crackeling then smells like burning.

The product, in the report: Electric Range

Caller purchased smooth top range and had no problems with it until approximately six weeks ago around May 5th to 10th when she had been cooking on it with temperature set at Medium; however she noticed that the temperature had risen to quite a high range. She tried to turn it down but the temperature just kept rising until she and her husband turned the stove off and then the circuit breaker off. She contacted the manufacturer who advised her that there was no recall at this time. Consumer is unable to find out f there is a part to buy that will fix this. This happened possibly another five times (she doesn’t remember the dates) until Sunday, June 19th she was cooking for Father’s Day and the same burner repeated the same escalation of heat and the same steps were taken to alleviate the heat. Caller views this as an extreme fire hazard, would like this range investigated and recalled. (Caller did not contact manufacturer this date) siting they were of no assistance previous calls to them. As of 7/10/11, consumer cannot use the left large burner.
