The product, in the report: SEE INCIDENT REPORT
We own a Frigidare Range Model PLEF398AC Serial VF22307776 which recently experienced a burner failure and caused the burner to remain on maximum heat despite efforts to shut it off with the controls on the stove.
In researching this I found this model was included in a recall 09-333. We were never notified of this recall by the manufacturer or the seller (Sears). I contacted the manufacturer regarding the recall and they confirmed our unit was included in the problem ranges.
The representative then advised me that they were no longer honoring the recall due to “parts availability” . The representative did advise me that the company had an alternate solution and they were offering a 40% rebate on the purchase of a replacement unit.
I found this practice to be an poor attempt to circumvent their liability as well the entire recall process while maintaining their profitability at the customers expense.
I would appreciate knowing if this practice was approved and/or endorsed by your agency and if not having the unit repaired as the manufacturer agreed ed to do in the terms of the recall
