The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 12, 2026, sent to the company Mar 17, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 31, 2026

The product, in the report: 30 Glass top 5 burner 5.8-cu ft. Self cleaning air fry convection freestanding electric Range Stainless Steel

I purchased a Hisense electric range model HBE3501CPS from Lowes. While cooking normally, the glass cooktop suddenly shattered from the bottom burner with a loud pop. Nothing was dropped on the appliance and there was no misuse. The range is less than two years old and this failure created a safety concern. I have attempted to contact Hisense multiple times by phone, website, and social media but have been unable to reach a representative.

UPDATED ON 3/30/2026: [I would like to provide an update to my report.

A third-party technician was sent by the manufacturer to inspect the appliance. During the visit, the technician stated that he was not responsible for determining the cause of the failure and that the determination would be made by the manufacturer’s engineers. The technician took photographs and contacted the manufacturer by phone while on-site. The claim was denied during that phone call.

The technician indicated there was no visible internal damage to the heating element or wiring.

Following the inspection, I received a written response from the manufacturer stating that the unit is out of warranty. This is incorrect. The appliance was purchased on May 6, 2024 and carries a two-year warranty, which remains active.

The cooktop shattered during normal use while cooking with standard cookware, and no impact or misuse occurred.

I continue to have concerns about the safety of this product as well as the handling and evaluation of this issue.]

UPDATED ON 3/30/2026: [I am providing an update following a final written denial from Hisense.

The manufacturer now states that the claim is denied due to “physical damage” and not a manufacturing defect. However, no clear evidence of impact or misuse has been provided.

The determination appears to be based on the absence of internal component failure rather than proof of external damage. The service technician confirmed that there was no damage to the burners or wiring.

The cooktop shattered outward during normal use while cooking, and the failure pattern does not indicate a clear point of impact.

I do not agree with the misuse determination, as no evidence of impact has been demonstrated, and the failure occurred during normal operation within the warranty period.

I am requesting reconsideration or a goodwill resolution. ]

The product, in the report: The store was about one month old. My father-in-law turned on the front dual burner and the knob shorted out, came separated and started short and throwing sparks everywhere down on the floor. The knobs are in the front of the unit.

Range dual burner knob, shorted out and shot sparks all the way down to the floor without tripping the breaker or anything almost caused a fire
