I have a General Electric oven and stove Model #: ABS45DF2WS. I have had the stove since 2017 and it has had multiple dangerous part failures, most frequently oven thermostat failures which caused the oven to spontaneously heat without input and heat out of control. The oven has gotten so hot during some of these failures that it scorched the insulation on the inside of the oven. There has also been an issue with both of the internal oven heating elements melting in one case causing a small oven fire. The most concerning failure was when the main power cord partially melted through its harness on the back and touched the bare metal on the back of the oven blowing a circuit breaker and causing the lights to flicker. The oven is currently not functional, the most recent thermostat failure scorched the insulation again and when we went to replace the thermostat the part emitted visible sparks, and blew the breaker. No has been severely injured by any of the part failures. I have experienced a few minor burns due to the oven overheating or heating when it was not supposed to but otherwise no one has been hurt. I have contacted GE but they have done nothing beyond offering to waive the cost of diagnosis for a home charge after the range had already been fixed at my own cost. There has been no attempt by them to address the ongoing safety issue this oven represents and this most recent failure has prompted me to reach out to the consumer product safety commission to ensure this dangerous appliance is appropriately taken care of.
