The product, in the report: 30-inch GE freestanding electric range with stainless steel finish, four coil-burner cooktop, and glass oven door.
On September 12, 2026, the exterior glass panel of our GE electric range oven door suddenly shattered while the appliance was completely off and cold. The oven and stovetop had not been used that morning. No one was touching or near the appliance. We were asleep and were awakened by the sound of the glass shattering. When we entered the kitchen, we found the exterior oven-door glass had shattered and glass fragments had traveled several feet across the kitchen floor. No one was injured, but the flying and scattered glass presented a significant injury hazard. There was no known impact or damage to the oven door immediately before the incident. During the previous week, I had occasionally heard unexplained faint clicking sounds in the kitchen, although I cannot confirm that they originated from the range. Photos were taken immediately after the incident.

The product, in the report: GE 30-inch built-in electric radiant cooktop
I am reporting a severe product safety hazard regarding a GE 30-inch built-in electric radiant cooktop (Model: JP3030DW2BB). One of the main burners has experienced a total failure of temperature regulation and is permanently stuck on maximum heat (“High” / “Power Boil”) whenever the burner is turned on.
Regardless of where the control knob is physically positioned--whether set to Low, Medium, or any intermediate setting--the infinite switch fails to cycle power and immediately runs the burner at full electrical capacity. While the switch can still physically turn the burner off, any active operational state forces extreme, unregulatable heat.
This exact model line (JP3030) was previously the subject of a major CPSC safety recall (Recall Number 23-144) for a nearly identical burner switch defect that caused burners to turn on spontaneously or remain stuck on high. My specific unit was manufactured more recently than the original 2022 recall window, demonstrating that this dangerous component defect or manufacturing flaw still exists in newer production batches currently being sold to consumers.
This failure creates an immediate, severe fire and burn hazard. Because the burner bypasses user input and runs at maximum temperature instantly, it can rapidly overheat cookware, flash-fry cooking oils, generate heavy smoke, and cause immediate thermal burns to unsuspecting users who expect a “low” or “medium” temperature setting.
The appliance cannot be used safely in this condition, as it requires constant physical monitoring to prevent an active kitchen fire. I am submitting this report to formally alert the CPSC that the hazardous switch failures plaguing the JP3030 model line have resurfaced in newer units, and the existing recall parameters may need to be expanded to protect the public.
I intend to contact the manufacturer tomorrow morning to request a full replacement of the switch batch due to the severe fire hazard.

The product, in the report: GE Stainless Steel Electric Built-In Double Wall Oven. Upper and lower oven configuration, lower oven door shattered
The tempered glass door of my GE double wall oven spontaneously exploded into shards across my kitchen while turned off and unattended. I had not used that lower oven in over six months. This catastrophic failure created a severe shrapnel hazard, posing an extreme laceration risk to myself and my pet.
GE dispatched a technician who admitted the failure was likely due to ‘internal stress.’ When I asked if this was a manufacturer issue, he agreed it could be. However, when I pressed for more detail, he abruptly changed his tone and told me to just ’[REDACTED] internal stress.’
This is a known latent manufacturing defect. The CPSC database contains over 900 reports of spontaneous glass breakage in GE appliances. Additionally, GE recently settled a $20 million class-action for microwave glass defects and privately settled a June 2023 class-action specifically regarding shattering oven doors.
Despite this documented history and their own technician citing internal stress, GE notified me in writing that this is ‘not a safety issue.’ They are attempting to charge me to fix a known factory defect. I am filing this to document GE’s failure to recall dangerous appliances and their refusal to honor consumer safety.

The product, in the report: GE appliance white unit with electric cooktop. It looks similar to the GE 400 series oven freestanding electric range.
The bottom left electric cooktop burner on a GE appliance wouldnt stop turning off even when the burner on setting registered all switches as off. This is extremely dangerous and if I was not still in the house feeling the heat, I would anticipate a fire happening. I slide the unit out and pulled the plug from the power as the only way to stop it. I tried everything else to turn it off but it kept continuing. It burnt the pot with the potato inside. GE electric cooktop appliance. No injuries.

During a Steam cleaning cycle my GE Slide In Electric Range with Self Cleaning Convention Oven, the oven sparked and tripped the 220 Breaker. This left the oven locked up . From the pictures you will see that the sheet metal frame heated up and melted the plastic covering of both wires, causing the range short out. Lots of sparks coming out of the oven door and smoke. The Range is 15 months old.

The product, in the report: White electric range.
The eye on my electric range is a fire hazard. I turned the eye on the medium setting and when I lower the setting to low (the lowest setting) the eye gets hotter and stays hot. To reduce the heat , the eye has to be turned off completely. If I had turned the eye to low and left the room, thinking that the temperature would go down, a fire could have been the result.

The product, in the report: White GE electric range Model JB250DF5WW
The large burners on my GE electric range are intermittently and unpredictably overheating and glowing red when the knob is set for only low or moderate heat. This is a potentially lethal defect, as it could cause a fire. We intend to replace the infinite switches; however, my concern is that a cook who is unaware of this defect could leave a pot simmering on a low heat, the burner could malfunction, and the food could burn and catch fire in a matter of minutes, especially if it contains oil or fat. I no longer feel it’s safe to cook dishes that need to simmer for several hours, as standing by the stove for that amount of time to monitor whether the burner is going to overheat is impractical. This range is only 4 years old. I’ve owned other electric ranges, one as old as 17 years, that have never demonstrated this defect. I suspect that GE has implemented a cost cutting policy in manufacturing the infinite switches that has placed profit over consumer safety. The infinite switches should have a fail safe mechanism that ensures they cannot glow red hot unless the cook has set the knob for high heat. This has been happening for several weeks, today both of the large burners malfunctioned when I was making dinner.

The product, in the report: slide in glass top stove
I purchased a slide in GE glass top range model: JS750DFBB, Serial No: ZG235145 on 02/07/17 from Spencer Tv & Appliance in Glendale Arizona. On or about 09/28/2018 very early in the morning I went into the kitchen and was astonished to see the glass on the oven door on the floor, it was still in one piece. We stored the glass in a safe place in hopes that could be repaired. Thanking that the glass was comedic and was safe to use my wife decided to use the oven. Being a heavy casserole dish and she was able to open the oven door with one hand and then with the oven door was down used the free hand to steady the dish to slide it to the oven, at that point the door spring closed and caught her two forearms causing second-degree burns.
At this point, we realized that the glass was not just cosmetic but was part of the counterweight design of the door. I immediately called a licensed repair service to fix the problem. [REDACTED] came out on 10/05/2018. He removed the oven handle and added a double sticky tape to the bottom of the glass and all seemed great, of course, I had to pay the $100.00 service fee. The repair lasted two days, then in the morning the glass was on the floor, called the repair service out again. The repairman said if it falls off again there was nothing he could do. It seemed to him that it was a design flaw. Yes, it fell off again!!!! After a battle with GE Consumer Relations ([REDACTED]) GE did come out with their certified repairman an did repair it using the double-sided tape. they gave us a 12-month warranty, however, we are afraid to use the oven wondering if it will fall again hurting someone’s feet or legs or another burn.

The product, in the report: Electric Range
(4/24/16) The consumer’s wife set the oven to bake but the oven did not heat up. The consumer then pulled the range from the wall and unplugged it. The consumer noticed the wires attached to the range were burned and 2 inches of insulation had melted. The consumer indicated that the burners work fine.
The consumer cut the burned wires and replaced them. The consumer believes the wires on the back of the range are too thin and the firm should use thicker wires. The consumer believes the range is not safe and should be investigated.
The range was used the day before and there was not an issue. The consumer indicated that the range is used almost daily. There are no prior incidents.
The consumer plans to contact the firm.
The consumer does not remember where he purchased the range or how long ago.
