The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 21, 2017, sent to the company Jan 11, 2018, published by CPSC Jan 29, 2018

The product, in the report: Residential Frigidaire, Galley series, stove with a glass cook top.

I have a Frigidaire stove in my residential kitchen that is a galley series. It is used for residential cooking only. It has been a great appliance until recently. In the early morning hours of August 7, 2017, at approximately 0430 AM, the stove preheated itself to 350 degrees un-commanded, all the while my family were all in the bed asleep. Just to give a quick background of myself, I am the Fire Marshal for the City of Jacksonville, AL with 18 years on the job. This is not the first time that this has happened with a Frigidaire stove within the city limits of Jacksonville in the past 15 months. My department has responded to five working kitchen fires due to Frigidaire stoves cutting them selves on, un-commanded by the owners, and causing residential kitchen fires. Now that this same scenario has happened to me, I see this as a systemic problem. I now do not leave my stove plugged in while it is not in use. I do not trust it while no one is home. If it did an un-commanded preheat once, my opinion is that it will do it again. The model # of stove that I have is: LGEF3045KFD. The serial # is: VF10246284. I have called both Electrolux and Frigidaire regarding this issue and they do not have any comments and show no concern on it. They also stated, “we do not have any recalls on that model and have no information to give you.” This issue needs to be addressed, sooner rather than later. Regarding the fires in other stove appliances within the city, they have all been reported to CPSC.gov. This report is regarding my personal appliance in my residence.

The product, in the report: Frigidaire Electric Range LGEF3045KFH

The inner glass door of my 2 year old, Frigidaire range Model # LGEF3045KFH shattered into many pieces during the self-cleaning cycle. Concerns include safety of exploding glass and inability to use my oven.

The product, in the report: Smooth Top electric range

One of the stove tops on my Electric Frigidaire cooktop turns on by itself even though the knob is on the OFF position. Once it’s on, there is no way of turning it off! I would have to turn off the oven circuit from the main panel in order as I never know when it may come on by itself. The first incident happened when I was on a trip and when I returned, the stove top was on. Thankfully there was nothing sitting on the surface, otherwise....

I contacted Frigidaire to report the defect but after a couple of attempts, they responded that there is nothing they will do as this model (FEC36S8HBA) is not on their recall list.

They recommended for me to arrange for repairs or replacements, but I strongly believe that this is a serious defect and I have NEVER experienced or heard of a stove top turning itself on, with no way to turn it off! No matter how much I try to turn the knob in all the different positions, the heater will not turn off.

I hardly use the stove and it’s in a like-new condition, so the incident was not caused due to normal wear and tear.

A couple of burners on my “Frigidaire Gallery” cooktop are having the same problems as listed below on the recall units.

I would please like to have my unit covered under this recall. My model # is FEC36S8HBA.

Hazard: Liquids pooling under the control knob can cause the surface heating element to turn on unexpectedly, heat to temperatures other than expected and then not turn off, posing a risk of fire and burn hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Frigidaire has received 70 reports of incidents, including three reports of fires that resulted in property damage. Three minor burn injuries were also reported.

Description: This recall involves Frigidaire electric smoothtop slide-in ranges and cooktops with rotary knobs and digital displays.

Hazard: Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can 1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on; 2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or, 3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
