The product, in the report: Cafe 36 inch built in touch induction cooktop - gray
I purchased this induction cooktop (GE Cafe Model CHP90362TSS) in April 2025 and it was installed in May 6, 2025. On May 23, the 1st time the large hob was used with an induction compatible [REDACTED] pan to sear fish the hob overheated and scorched the glass under the pan. I contacted the dealer and GE (Case [REDACTED]) asking for a replacement since I felt the unit was defective. Ge refused, saying that they would service and replace defective parts but not replace the unit. Service took 2 visits over a month. The technician replaced only the ceramic glass cooktop on June 18. Nothing was done to the hobs even though a replacement for the induction element (part #WB30X38227) was included in the repair summary we received. The tech said that was ordered in case the unit failed again but it did not need to be replace at that visit. The unit has been periodically unresponsive with heat control issues. Thanksgiving Eve, the bottom right hob overheated burning the soup in it. When we picked the [REDACTED] pot off the hob, the glass underneath was scorched and cracked and the bottom of the [REDACTED] pot was damaged. Removing the pot sent glass shards across the cooktop and kitchen counter. So no cooktop for Thanksgiving. Called GE on Friday. They refused to replace but ordered a “safety review” saying a tech would be out Monday, Dec 1, 2025 between 8AM12noon. On Dec 1 at 9:36AM I just got a call from a service manager saying there is no tech available to come today. No tech for another week. This is an unsafe, unreliable, dysfunctional unit and I am not comfortable using it even if the GE tech replaces the hob and glass top. Im concerned it could overheat and shatter again and send glass and hot metal/food flying. I noticed another customer had posted the same scorch marks on the Cafe Appliances website, so this may be a design/manufacturing flaw affecting other customers, as well.
