The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam Turbo Steam Master Professional, model GCSBCS-112

An almost new iron - Sunbeam Steam Master Professional, model GCSBCS-112 - had the soleplate detach on the front of the iron. I’ve ironed fewer than 10 pieces of clothing when this occurred. It was the first time I had added water to the unit. It appears the plastic surrounding the front post of the soleplate either melted or otherwise failed, thus exposing wiring inside the iron. The iron is permanently damaged.

Premature failure of power cord on Sunbeam Steam Master Iron 4057-026

Dear Sunbeam, Enclosed is a Steam Master iron, model number 4057-026. I recently noticed electrical sparking emanating from a break in the insulation on one of the conductors of the power cord. Close inspection shows what appears to be a failure of the 18 AWG zip cord about one foot from the appliance. I found the failure of the power cord to be unusual and a possible sign of a problem with the cord manufacturing. To the best of my knowledge, the failure of this cord came about naturally, through regular use of the product in a residential environment. When not being used, the iron has typically been left on the ironing board, with the power cord hanging down to connect to a 12AWG appliance extension cord. I am returning this item for your inspection and quality control purposes in case there is a larger concern with the power cord.

    Sincerely,

    [REDACTED]

Electric Steam Iron gave a popping sound and a bright flash; there was a 2 inch yellow flame issuing from the base of the iron at the strain relief for the cord.. I immediately unplugged the unit, and on inspection, noted that it had a .2 inch burned spot where the insulator and the conductor of the cord had burned through, at the strain relief. The base of the iron had a black burn mark on it. Neither the iron nor the cord had been previously damaged.

The product, in the report: Sunbeam Steam Master iron. Stainless steel plate, white iron with sunflower yellow clear reservoir and inside of handle. Gray strip on outside of handle. Stamped on iron, near base it says model: 4235 Series T2

My steam iron made 2 popping sounds and burst into flames at the base of the iron where the cord enters/exits. It was at rest, fortunately, on the ironing board, as I prepared another garment to iron, when it happened. If I had been holding it, I fear my sleeve would have caught on fire. There was no trauma to the iron. This happened out of the blue. No pulling on the cord, no dropping of the iron. Just a normal session of using the iron. I’ve only had this iron about a year or two. I can’t remember when I got it, but its relatively new.

The product, in the report: SunBeam iron plus steamer

I use SunBeam Iron plus Steamer that I bought from Bed Bath & Beyond. The iron worked good for few months and now while ironing, water is dripping from the iron constantly. I consider this as a safety hazard and concerned about safety of my family members using this iron. Model number and details about the iron is Sunbeam iron and Steamer - UPC 0 274571445 7, Embossed number C102JT, GCSBRS103, No. 126272. Earlier version of the Sun Beam iron was recalled but I still believe that even this model is not safe either. You can see the recall information at http://www.walletpop.com/2011/02/03/sunbeam-recalls-irons-from-bed-bath-and-beyond-after-reports-of-f/

I will sincerely appreciate if you can please consider my complain. I have taken pictures of the iron when leaking water and attached to this report

The product, in the report: Sunbeam clothing iron

My wife was using a Sunbeam clothing iron model 3965 and began to smell an odd odor. The iron was turned off and we left the house for lunch. Shortly after returning home, she turned the iron on. The odor was stronger, then noted a black spot on the left side to the handle below where the power cord enters. She received a minor burn when touching the handle. No other harm was done. The iron is 3-4 years old.
