The product, in the report: Steam iron
A SHARK X-tended Steam Burst Iron caught on fire in the internals of the iron. I was using it to iron quilting fabric when the iron began to crackle and smoke. I unplugged the iron but it continued to crackle and smoke. I was using it in the basement and had to run upstairs and outside to prevent a fire in my home. The inside of the iron continued to burn for several minutes. No one was injured and there was minimal damage in my home. It was fortunate I was using the iron at the time it caught fire or the situation could have been much worse. I am concerned that these irons could cause more severe injuries or damage to others.

The product, in the report: SHARK “X-TENDED STEAM BURST” electric flatiron model G1435N 55
Safety issue: Shark Iron Catching Fire
We purchased a Shark X-Tended Steam Burst electric iron from Target, model G1435N 55, about 2 years ago. After a very short time it broke (stopped working) and we were issued a replacement. We used this new one for a little more than a year until today when it caught fire.
The iron had been ion use and working as expected for about an hour when it all of a sudden made a loud buzzing type of noise and caught fire, with flames shooting out of the top..
My wife quickly disconnected the iron and I grabbed it and tossed it outside where the flames went out and just smoked for a while longer.

The product, in the report: Shark Professional Steam iron
From: [REDACTED] To: US Consumer Product Safety Commission Subj: Shark Ultimate Professional Steam Iron Date: 01-14-2015
Please find attached a photo of a Shark Professional Steam iron that caught on fire in my home today. I have had the iron for several years. I feel the cord connection at the base of the iron is the problem and should be looked into by your agency. I was ironing at the time and just set the iron down to adjust my pants and spray some starch on them when it burst into flames very hot. I had to jerk the cord out of the wall, the cord continued to be hot. I used water to put out the fire on the ironing board cover.
Not sure how many other issues you have had with this iron but feel this should be looked into. I really liked the iron prior to this issue and actually bought another one today G1568 model. I hope this one does not have any fire issue as the one shown in the photos I have attached.
I still have the original iron if that will help your agency review the product just let me know before I discard the iron at the land fill.
My home address is [REDACTED], home phone: [REDACTED]. I look forward to hearing from a representative of your company in the future.
Respectfully yours, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Shark clothes iron body was blue plastic. With I think Prox on side. Silver base where cord comes out
We have a shark iron owned by Euro Pro. On Aug. 4 the iron self ignited into flames. It was on but was to have an automatic shut off. The entire iron is melted except for the sole plat. And the cord leading away from the iron. I called them three times on August 6,11, and 13. Messages left by customer service to claims dept twice and I left message at claims dept once myself. I called your company on Aug. 14 and spoke with [REDACTED] and he made notations of our conversation. Shark claims dept did call bac on the afternoon of the 14. The gal I spoke with was [REPORTED] in claims, which I was told there is only one person who works in claims, and she admitted yes very small dept. when I asked about that. We have damage to our carpet for it also caught on fire from the dripping plastic of the burning iron. We were lucky it was in the evening, for I fear our home would have burned down. [REDACTED] has stated Shark is not necessarily taken responsibility for damages since the owners Manuel says not to leave on even though it has automatic shut off. She emailed me a fed ex confirmation label and asked to have the iron shipped to their company to run some “ tests”. I still have the iron and cord, not much of it left. What avenue do I take to resolve this?

The product, in the report: Iron
This caller purchased her iron in March 2010 and had no problems with it until June 8th, 2014 when she was ironing a pair of pants after plugging in only a few seconds before ironing. She had ironed one leg of the pants and was beginning the second leg when fire shot from where the cord connects into the iron and engulfed her left arm up to the elbow. She screamed which alerted her husband who came running into the room, pulled the plug from the wall and rushed his wife into the bathroom. Her arm from the hand to the elbow was black. She continuously washed her left arm with anti bacterial soap and putting [REDACTED] then per a doctor’s advice by phone she switched to [REDACTED] with pain re leif. The caller was in pharmaceutical sales for years, she was aware that the main worry is infection whenever skin is burned and so is watching it carefully. The skin of her arm is no longer black and is healing well. She is reporting to inform the public of the burn danger with this product.
She contacted the manufacturer on June 10th, 2014 and June 11th, 2014 but has been trying not to return the iron to them because she is under the impression that a report was already filed with CPSC. I found no report before this one. She said that someone named [REDACTED] or [REDACTED] contacted her but I also found no one in the Virginia area who would have contacted her from CPSC by that name.

The product, in the report: Euro-pro Shark Retractor chrome and burgundy.
Was ironing my garment then set the iron down to adjust my garment. I began to smell smoke and hear sparking. I picked up the iron and it sparked more then small fire started. I quickly blew it out and unplugged the product. I believe the housing where the water is stored for steam leaked into the area where the retractable cord is housed because I checked the device externally.

The product, in the report: Clothing iron
Iron was plugged in, turned on, and sitting on ironing board. I had just finished ironing a few items of clothing and was in the next room when I heard loud popping and sizzling sound coming from the room with the iron, and lights were dimming. When I went back in the room where the iron was located, the iron was flashing bright blue inside (part of the plastic around the iron which contains the water reservoir is transparent), popping, and black smoke was coming out the top. I quickly unplugged the iron and it stopped before becoming a full fire, but continued to smoke for a few minutes.

The product, in the report: Shark Gentle Glide Iron, Model IR420, 110-120V, 60 Hz., 1200-1400 Watts
While my wife was ironing clothes last night, a burst of sparks came from the rubber tube that holds the electric cord at the back of the handle, causing her sleeve to catch fire. She was able to extinguish the flames quickley and pull the cord from the wall socket. Luckily, she was not injured, but we are concerned that this iron might cause injury to other users..

The product, in the report: elecrtic flat iron
I would like to report an iron. yes the plain kind that she used iron your clothes. The brand is shark the model number is G1408Z. What has happened is that the electrical cord has broken just past the court support and is a shock hazard. It’s obvious that the cord material was/is very defective. We have owned this iron for 2 maybe 3 years and like most people don’t iron a lot. my wife is careful not to put a lot of stress on the chord joint using an extension cord to keep it from pinching.
I don’t know if you want to hear the sort of things but I thought I would put my $.02 worth in on this defective product. Besides being defective it is also dangerous because the cord broke in exposing the copper wires within.
Thank you [REDACTED]
