The product, in the report: Iron

Caller has iron she inherited from her aunt and that was new in condition.

She was ironing on June 28th, 2012, sat the iron down to turn the fabric when flames shot out from area where cord meets the iron.

The flames were possible one and a half inches high.

She immediately unplugged the iron and the flames extinguished. She estimates that seeing the flames and unplugging the cord took possibly 15 seconds or less. Guide for cord is charred black and handle is cracked..

Caller has not contacted manufcturer yet but does intend to contact them. She thought that she was calling them when she contacted the CPSC hotline.

Caller would ask that the iron be replaced at manufacturer expense.
