The product, in the report: Clthing iron
Applica Consumer Products no. F63D Type 3 (sold under the name Black & Decker Classic) clothing iron.
The iron is a year or two old. It replaced a 40+ year old iron that stopped heating.
While in use, the sparks shot several inches out of the cord. The location of the damage was just above the rubber reinforcement at the iron handle. The cord was broken. Apparently the cord was too weak to prevent damage where it flexed.

The product, in the report: Clothing Iron
Black & Decker Digital Advantage Iron Cat.No.D2020 Type 1. Unit was plugged in to heat. A shirt was ironed. The iron seemed to overheat as the iron seemed to stick on the fabric and was not gliding. The iron was set to level six. A cotton shirt was being ironed. The unit then began to beep continuously. Smoke came out between the iron’s base and the space above it. The display turned black. The smoke was acrid like an electrical overheating situation. We immediately unplugged the unit and are concerned about reusing it. Is this a known problem?

The product, in the report: Black and Decker First Impressions Corded Reel Iron
Last fall I purchased a Black and Decker iron, a First Impressions Cord Reel Iron (Model No. ICR505), I think it was at Target. I tried looking for a place to file this complaint on the Black and Decker website but didn’t see any area to do so.
I am a quilter, which means I have to press a lot of cotton calico, which requires a high heat setting and steam. I’ve noticed with this particular iron that the handle area gets really hot, uncomfortably so. While I haven’t actually burned my hand yet, it’s not something I want to continue using. I’ve never had this problem with irons before, and am wondering if there is something wrong with my iron or if it is the design of this particular model.
This problem started with the first time I used my iron, but I managed to finish the project I was working on last November. I hadn’t used the iron since then until this past weekend, when I noticed the painful heat again. Obviously, this is a problem that is not going away.
I will be purchasing a new iron as soon as possible and discarding this one, but I wanted to make someone aware of the problem with this iron. I have also filed this complaint with Consumer Reports.

The product, in the report: Clothes Iron (Electric)
The caller stated that his spouse had plugged in the iron and within 5 mins she smelled smoke, she notice that there was flames emitting from the electrical cord at the rear of the iron. Below the iron where it was standing upright the cloth was burnt through and had to use water to put out the flames. There had been no prior problems with this iron.
The consumer is concerned that this iron could have caused a house fire.
The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.
The caller feels that this iron is a fire hazard and should be investigated.

Hurt, care not known Made Oct 25, 2011, sent to the company Nov 16, 2011, published by CPSC Dec 1, 2011
The product, in the report: Black & Decker Steam Advantage Electric Iron
Black & Decker - Steam Advantage Iron Model IR1070S Sold by Walmart.
Open Box, add water, plug it in, heat it up and press the steam button. You get one large drop of water inside the housing for each surge of steam from the iron when you press the steam button. (Although the steam out of the iron is great). Set the iron up vertically after a horizontal steam pass on your shirt and it runs out of housing seams and out of the power cord penetration. Hold it vertical and press the steam button and it leaks out of the steam button, over the power light and across your hand. Going back before it electrocutes me.
After seeing this I checked product reviews. They all leak. Water and 120VAC is a hazard and B&D should recall the product.
