I was contracted by True manufacturer located at [REDACTED] to fix a refrigerator that uses r290 refrigerant gas the problem with the refrigerator is that it was not reaching temperature it would reach 55 degrees so they contracted me to fix the refrigerator I inspected the refrigerator and found a gas leak I informed True manufacturer tech support that I needed a compressor and the evaporator and leaking lines to complete the repair tech support refuse to send me the compressor due to the compressor is running not faulty I informed them of the hazard of exploding and flammable gas the refrigerator uses and they replayed by hanging up the phone and removing me from the service locator on true manufacturer website so I can’t help my community and my self with refrigeration repairs in the area I have been in the industry since 2002 and I have worked on refrigerator that have used freon not propane as the cooling gas by having that time in the industry I have seen compressor over heat that you can’t touch it with a glove on or limit switch welder due to high current causing the safety limit switch to not work I understand my craft due to the years I have been in the industry so I understand that my job is to be safe and to prevent any hazard to occur please help me with this matter by making refrigerator manufacturer like True manufacturer that use r290 or r600a as the gas for their equipment required to replace the compressor when the equipment has a gas leak so we can keep the public safe which can be your mother father son or daughter I thank you for your time and support. I have researched this on [REDACTED] please note
Yes, a refrigeration company may need to replace a compressor if an R290 system has a gas leak, but it’s not a guaranteed outcome. Here’s a breakdown of why: R290 Systems and Leaks: R290 is a flammable refrigerant (propane). Due to its flammability, leaks need to be handled with extreme care and safety protocols. The initial step is to find and repair the leak. Leak Impact on Compressor: Loss of refrigerant can stress the compressor. Refrigerant carries oil throughout the system, and insufficient refrigerant can lead to compressor overheating and damage from reduced lubrication. Air and moisture entering the system due to a leak can also cause problems, potentially rusting internal components of the compressor. Compressor Replacement: If the leak has significantly damaged the compressor, replacement is likely necessary. However, if the leak is found and repaired early and the compressor is still functioning properly, replacement may not be needed. Safety and Expertise: Working with R290 requires specific training and safety precautions due to its flammability. Only experienced and trained technicians should work on R290 systems. A certified technician will be able to properly assess the situation, locate the leak, repair it safely, and determine if the compressor needs to be replaced. In summary, a gas leak in an R290 system doesn’t automatically mean a compressor replacement, but it can lead to damage requiring one if not addressed promptly and correctly by a qualified technician.
Please note
Air and moisture entering the system due to a leak can also cause problems, potentially rusting internal components of the compressor Loss of refrigerant can stress the compressor. Refrigerant carries oil throughout the system, and insufficient refrigerant can lead to compressor overheating and damage from reduced lubrication However, if the leak is found and repaired early and the compressor is still functioning properly, replacement may not be needed. Please understand this is mentioned that is found early that means same day a refrigeration system has a duty cycle rust and overheating needs to be prevented to be sure that the compressor is safe to use and prevent future hazard from not taking place please be aware as a train refrigeration tech you have to understand duty cycle and know when overheating took place any refrigeration system that hasn’t reached its duty cycle overheating took place and any leak in a refrigeration system will allow moisture to enter the system only a experience refrigeration technician understand the risks and safety procedures that need to be performed to repair highly flammable refrigeration system to assume the public is safe
