The product, in the report: stainless steel, free standing bottom freezer, 23 5/8 in x 24 13/16in x 79in

To whom it may concern: I purchased a brand new $3,000 Liebherr refrigerator Model CS1321 22 months ago. Approximately 8 weeks ago I began to encounter issues with the temperature settings, first with the refrigerator and soon after with the freezer. I discovered a manual power reset fixed the issue. This lasted a couple weeks until the temperatures increased more and a power reset no longer was effective. The refrigerator’s temperature control panel was malfunctioning without warning at all hours of the day/night. This caused all of our food to spoil and be thrown away. Five weeks ago I contacted Liebherr customer service and was given contact information for a local company to repair the issue under warranty. When I first contacted the warranty company they recommended that I rent a fridge and informed me a technician was not available that day but a virtual technician would call me in two days. I was disappointed with this option but felt I had no choice because of the warranty on the regrigerator. A technician came to our home 2 weeks after the initial call with the warranty company. He stated he needed to order multiple parts and I would hear back in a week to schedule the repair. It has now been 2 weeks since that visit and I have not been able to reach anyone at their office. I emailed Liebherr customer service about my experience and they only confirmed parts were on order and advised I continue to call the warranty company. The warranty company that was assigned to me has several complaints from customers with similar experiences, some lasting months. They have multiple 1 star ratings on all review sites and complaints with the [REDACTED]. I relayed this information to the Liebherr representative as well. I purchased this refrigerator for a family of four with two toddlers. This experience has created a hardship in maintaining basic needs for my family. I feel Leibherr has failed in providing a warranty service that promptly helps their customers maintain a functioning critical appliance. I am hopeful they will do the right thing. Thank you for taking the time to look into this report. I appreciate your time.

The product, in the report: This is Leibherr Refrigerator CS 1660 - according to the maniufacturere this is not the model subject to the 2009 recall.

This is the third time, that within a few months of use, the door of the refrigerator has become lose and hangs lower. The prior two times it started the same way and fell off the hinge ENTIRELY. I am writing now before we get to that point.

    To whom it may concern,

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Liebherr, manufacturer of the refrigerator that my family currently uses. We bought the brand new fridge (Model: CS1650) as part of the purchase of our new apartment in September of 2008. The fridge is priced at about $5,000 on the market, a very costly fridge by our standard.

The fridge started to have performance issues since Q4 of 2010, less than 2 years since our original purchase. It would suddenly stop working for about 10~20 seconds and then restart to work again, making some beeping sound at the same time. The screen indicating the temperature would start blinking as the temperature started to rise. However, the issue was intermittent at that time and it was gone after we reset the power. It worked as normal until a few months ago, when it would stop working overnight for no reason. The most annoying issue is that you can’t predict when it would happen. We couldn’t even remove items to other storage (e.g. neighbor’s fridge) in time. We have a two-year-old daughter who needs to be fed milk three times a day. We even had one incidence where the temperature raised undetectably and she had spoiled milk and food poison subsequently. We called Liebherr for the issue and they insisted it’s out of warranty even we explained that the same issue happened back in 2010. To avoid the spoiled milk incidence, we had to pay the service company to diagnose the fridge on site. But the earliest we could have an appointment with the repair person was 3 days later. However, by the day of the appointment, the issue disappeared so the repair person couldn’t diagnose. The nature of the issue makes the case so difficult since it may not replicate itself when the repair person comes to inspect it. Of course, the same issue started again a few weeks later, which has been extremely frustrating. Finally, a couple months later since we spoke to Liebherr, the fridge was identified (still not 100% sure) by Liebherr customer service as having circuit board issue and requires a ~$700 repair.

We have been extremely disappointed with the fridge and Liebherr’s services. Many of other unit owners in our condo also had problems with their fridges (same brand and model). It seems to us to be excessive and unacceptable for a $5,000 brand new fridge to have so many problems within 2~3 years. Since the warranty only covers us for two years, the repair cost (parts and labor) have become very expensive. For some of my neighbors, the repair costs have exceeded $1000 which is probably sufficient to purchase a brand new fridge. For our case, the issue clearly happened within the warranty period but the nature of the issue makes it impossible for us to get it fixed within the warranty period. We feel that these defects seem to fall outside of the normal range and indicate the manufacturer’s irresponsibility to consumers. We believe that proper investigation is warranted and the voices of Liebherr’s customers should be heard.

Thank you very much for your kind attention. We sincerely appreciate your supporting the New York consumers.

    Sincerely yours,

    [REDACTED]
