The product, in the report: LG side by side refrigerator
On 08/13/06 my wife and I purchased a LG side by side refrigerator with an ice maker in the lower freezer. The model is # LFD22850SW and the serial is #0317268896. We bought this refrigerator at the north division Best Buy in Spokane along with a 5 year extended warranty at the cost of $2043.00 including tax. We have had 5 repair claims as of 07/21112. One of the claims in approximately 2007 or 2008 was for the melting plastic light cover which literally melted and dropped into the shelve below. Unknown to me and my wife in 2005 there had been numerous incidents of LG refrigerators catching on fire and in some instances destroyed the home and caused death along with personnel injury. LG and Best Buy fully knew of these equipment failures and said nothing either at the time of purchase or when an appliance technician was sent to repair the melted light cover. Our extended warranty lapsed in August of2011. On the 22nd of July 2012 we opened the door to the refrigerator and found the light cover melting again and the heat was actually cooking raw meat we had on the top shelf. I took a dish rag and unscrewed the lamps and then I immediately called LG ‘s national customer service number and explained the circumstances and was put on hold for 25 minutes. Upon the return of the customer service representative was given the name of a local appliance repair company and a repair authorization number to call the next day on Monday the 23 rd. I have call Jefferies appliance in Spokane and they will be here to repair supposedly again this fire hazard this Thursday the 26th. This will be the Sixth service repair since I bought this [REDACTED] and I am afraid that it has become too unsafe for my wife and I to have in our home. I am going to insist that for safety reasons I be given a complete refund. I would strongly suggest that someone from the AG look at the hundreds of complaints on the inter net, and issue an state wide alert to all owners of LG refrigerators of the extreme danger that they are in. I have also ask to listed in a class action suit against LG for this problem. [REDACTED]
