The product, in the report: LG Refrigerator. Stainless steel french door style with icemaker and water dispenser in the door.
I repaired my compressor on my LG refrigerator in May 2025. The compressor went out again 3 months later in August 2025. The issue is related to the gas that runs much hotter than the previous refrigerant. This heat degrades the rubber bearings in the compressor, allowing the gas to leak through the entire fridge system. Including into the water and ice maker lines.
I had been drinking water from the fridge both times the compressor went out....for about 2-3 weeks each time as it took time to get a repairman to repair the fridge.
They will not warranty the 3 month old brand new part. They will not discuss the danger of the gases leaking into the system/air, or any other dangerous result.
The fridge is low usage as there is only soda in the fridge, but the icemaker and water dispenser would use multiple times daily. I don’t know what this gas/refrigerant does to a human body, but below I have provided [REDACTED] response to the danger of the refrigerant:
[REDACTED]
This LG fridge is from 2014, and this happened 2x, and was NOT a properly functioning unit for about 2 weeks BOTH times.
Furthermore, there was food in the both fridges for days without realizing the temperature had lowered. The frozen food was all thrown out 3x. We ate some of this food, and were put at risk along with drinking the water unknowingly.

The product, in the report: lg ELECTRONICS UPPER/LOWER REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER
On October 8, 2024, my 2 year old LG refrigerator LTCS20020S /00 FREEZER began making a racket. I called LG and an agent [REDACTED] (?) had me unplug the fridge. Agent said she could not schedule an appointment until she called the next day to confirm problem was not resolved. She gave me a case # [REDACTED]. She NEVER called back. I filed a form on the LG presidential escalation site. Agent [REDACTED] called and said she would stay in touch until the problem was resolved. SHE ALSO NEVER CALLED BACK but she scheduled a repair appointment (which incidentally I was notified in error had been cancelled!) The freezer - though noisy - was still cooling. The fridge temp was 56 degrees - which is hazardous for many foods and meds. LG issued no warning to check the interior fridge temp or ADVISED NOT TO EAT THE FOOD medicine INSIDE THE FRIDGE. (I am a senior and also had medication inside this fridge that needed to be thrown away.) Thank God I had a thermometer which told me what was happening. A week later (10-15), LG tech [REDACTED] came to my home. (The appointment thank God had not been cancelled.) He said this model fridge has a known defect and the FAN needed to be replaced, that LG is aware of the problem and issued a fix to repair agents and has MANY unrepaired refrigerators out there (demand exceeds available resources). [REDACTED] removed a lot of ice and replaced the fan. Today the fridge temp is 38 degrees. LG KNOWS of this defect and does NOT alert consumers their food/meds are spoiling which they must NOT EAT OR INGEST OR THEY WILLL BE POISONED. Agent [REDACTED] texted me. I understand LG has a food compensation department and also I want to know why this product has not been recalled or why - when there is a problem - agent does not warn: Do NOT EAT FOOD IN FRIDGE BECAUSE IT IS NOT COOLING PROPERLY AND YOU WILL BE POISONED. LG or US Agency - needs to issue a warning with this fridge and a RECALL, repay for spoiled food and other ruined items and extend the warranty. (I have a video of the racket this refrigerator was making I can send separately.)
UPDATED ON 10/17/2024: [Glad to say LG has extended the warranty for 2 years and offered $ for the ruined food/meds. It isn’t only the repair person who said this is a known defect with this model, but also some of the agents.]

The product, in the report: LG Refrigerator Product, Silver Chrome Refrigerator with a Water and Ice Dispenser. Model: LSXS26366S.ASTCNA0 Serial #: 804MRKU0S717
In the past year, we purchased an LG Refrigerator through Home Depot. Recently, in the past two to three months, we noticed an awful odor coming from the refrigerator. We assumed it was bad food, but even after cleaning it nonstop the odor would come back. Eventually we realized that the fridge was not cooling properly after buying hundreds of dollars worth of food. For a month, we lost all cooling for our food and a majority of it went bad. There were also instances in which one of the family members came sick with stomach issues. It was also then, that we did some researched and found that the refrigerator that we bought was [REDACTED]. We have contacted LG about this. For the first couple of times, they have promised us a reimbursement as well as replacing the fridge. Time after time, and call after call, the customer service kept saying the same thing while not even keeping track nor records of our complaints even though we have sent through text messaging receipts of buying a temporary fridge as well as the receipts of food and eating out. Eventually we talked to a representative in charge, and she gave us an estimate of less than $200, which we found that number to be ridiculous. Eventually we have settled with a better amount for us. They told us multiple times, and even sent us an email, that a check would arrive to us by the next week. This was in late October (around the 25th to the 28th). And we have yet to get any check. We are deeply upset that our family had to go through pain and suffering of losing food and money down the drain while also being lied to constantly by LG. We are also upset that Home Depot sold us a defected refrigerator that was [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: Refrigerator, French Door (3 Door) type, counter depth.
LG Electronics Refrigerator Model LFX25991ST (serial number 203KRBY1M861) purchased in 2012 stopped working due to compressor failure. The refrigerator was powered on but the unit was not cooling. When I pulled the unit out from the wall to inspect, I received a strong electric shock when touching the ice-maker water line connection which was a braided metallic tubing. Refrigerator repair technician said that this was probably due to a faulty solenoid valve for the water dispenser. He said that this was a safety hazard and potential fire hazard. The electrical shock that I received caused a painful sensation to my hand that lasted 30 minutes.

No one hurt Made Nov 1, 2012, sent to the company Nov 27, 2012, published by CPSC Dec 11, 2012
The product, in the report: LG double door, bottom freezer, refrigerator.
My wife opened our LG Model 25760 TT refrigerator door to find the interior incredibly hot, she called me and I observed the entire machine was extremely warm and the interior lights were too hot to touch. The entire light assembly had turned into a burn hazard and could have caught fire if we had not have noticed there was a problem. I realized that the lights had come on all by themselves and stayed on. I turned the electricity off and called the manufacturer. They admitted this was a known issue with this model and gave me the number of a service center who, they said, would come out and repair it at no charge to me. I called the service center - Whidbey Appliance 360-240-9050, they responded that is was “not worth their while to come out”. I offered to pay them whatever their hourly rate was on a portal to portal basis to come out and repair this refrigerator, they would not come out. I removed the light bulbs from the refrigerator and restarted it as suggested by the manufacturer. It ran for about ten minutes and then produced a fault code ER FF (freezer fan). I called the manufacturer again and they suggested I turn it off for four hours because maybe this fan had iced up. I complied and it created the same error. The manufacturer said they would contact the repair center themselves and get back to me. I have never heard another word, that was four days ago. I used to repair appliances and took a look at the unit myself. In doing internet research I discovered LG has been sued for defects in this refrigerator that have caused fires and melted light assemblies. There are clearly design defects and an even worse service structure in place. There are thousands of consumers blogging online about their problems with this refrigerator. Shouldn’t your department be forcing a recall or refund for these consumers? I have taken a look at my fan problem too. This fan is a little DC motor that is under engineered for the job it is supposed to do and destined to fail. We are lucky to have not had a fire, now four days with no refrigeration, no resolution in sight and have thrown away about $500 of spoiled food, LG has failed to meet every expectation of safety, service responsibility or product performance with this product. I have also called LG corporate at 256-772-8860 and left a message for [REDACTED} who is an executive assistant there. My hope being that someone at a higher level in the company cared enough to arrive at a solution. I have never even received a call back. This refrigerator is a serious safety hazard in anyone’s home. By the way, the time to go from functioning to almost on fire was less than two hours, our food was so hot inside the mayonnaise jar exploded. This refrigerator has two incandescent 60 watt light bulbs right next to one another, that creates lots of heat in a very small space. If a consumer is lucky enough to have LG repair the unit the repair involves installing a lighting harness with a thermistor that turns the lights off when they get too hot, replacing the motherboard with one with a bigger relay because the original is undersized for the job and sticks on. I would think they need to replace the lights with LED lighting that creates virtually no heat and upsize the fan motor too because it is doomed to fail - there is clearly some seriously deficient engineering in this refigerator that demands a global recall.

The product, in the report: LG French Door Lower Freezer Drawer Refrigerator Model #LFC25760ST Stainless Steel finish
Opened LG refrigerator and smelled burning plastic. The light fixture was very hot and when I pressed on it, it felt pliable like there was melted plastic under it. The butter in the upper compartment on the right side door was melted. I pressed the 2 pins/buttons on the fridge that would turn off the lights when the doors were closed. The digital temperature screen went dark but the lights stayed on. We purchased the fridge in 2007. Had I not opened it - we may have had a fire. No, I’m sure we would have. It’s an LG French Door Lower Freezer Drawer Model #LFC25760ST.

The consumer noticed that the light bulbs on both sides of the refrigerator had melted plastic on them. It appears the light fixture melted onto the light bulbs.
The consumer states that her husband attempted to remove the light bulb it was very warm to the touch. While removing the light bulbs the housing made of plastic melted onto the light bulbs. Both light bulbs and light fixture were removed from the refrigerator.
The consumer states that she does not recall noticing if the light bulb was powered on/off with the doors closed to the refrigerator. She states that her milk is always located on the first shelf and noticed that it would go sour quickly.
The firm has not been contacted but the consumer states that she plans to alert them to the incident she experienced.

No one hurt Made Nov 13, 2011, sent to the company Nov 21, 2011, published by CPSC Dec 6, 2011
The product, in the report: Refrigerator
My wife and I purchased a bought a top-of-the-line LG refrigerator--model No. LG-LFX21960ST refrigerator. We came home a couple weeks ago and discovered the interior light was on again. It was on so long that the inside of the refrigerator was HOT. The plastic light fixture actually melted. The area above the light fixture (the liner) began to melt and form drips. The liner also cracked. This makes this refrigerator run almost constantly, not very energy efficient. At first we blamed the kids for leaving the doors partially open. They insisted it they were closing the doors so I decided to do research and found this is a major issue with the LG Refrigerators. It has caused homes to catch fire!
Pounds of butter have melted, [REDACTED] rolls containers popped. Entire packages of hot dogs have cooked!
I contacted LG customer support. They sent a technician to my house to take pictures of the damage. The refrigerator has to be replaced. LG agrees and has offered a settlement of $787.50, a third of what we paid for the refrigerator. This is a manufacturer defect and is dangerous. LG has not issued a recall. They refuse to replace the refrigerator. We’ve had this thing for 4 1/2 years. I would expect 20 years out of a refrigerator. The refrigerator list price was $2,599. We paid less because it was part of a bulk purchase for a kitchen remodel. I want LG to replace the refrigerator at no cost to me with their current model similar to the on we purchased. We are not in a position to spend the additional $1,711.50 to replace an appliance that should last 20 years. I don’t want money from LG. I want them to replace the refrigerator with a current model comparable to the one I purchased. I also want them to issue a recall to repair the refrigerators before more people come home to find their refrigerator has melted or caused a house fire.
I documented this incident. All calls and e-mail communication with LG.
LG Electronics has sold refrigerators with a major design flaw. These are dangerous and people need to know about it. [REDACTED] LG Easy Bake oven and you will see the many complaints about this refrigerator that cooks rather than cools your food. Our family has suffered unexplained upset stomachs, nausea and diarrhea. I now believe the food spoiled in the refrigerator then cooled to proper temperature.
