The product, in the report: Jenn-Aire 36 Refrigerator (built in-bottom freezer) Ice Maker

I noticed small metallic looking particles floating in my drinks. After further investigation I discovered that the particles were attached to my ice and became more obvious as the ice melted. I called Jenn-Aire customer service to report this finding. They scheduled a repair with a contracted agency, [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] serviced this refrigerator on July 3rd, 2025. This is what they reported (copied from an email I requested): Good morning [REDACTED] , The technician reported this on July 3rd to Whirlpool . Complaint flakes in ice. Upon diag, found the ice maker to be flaking from the coating where ice sits, the unit needs a new ice maker. Whirlpool denied the repair of the unit. We submitted an estimate to you if you would like us to repair the unit ... Your unit needs an icemaker if you would like [REDACTED] to repair the unit the estimate is 495.00 plus tax and must be prepaid in full, Thank you, [REDACTED] I called customer service at 866-550-5136 (Reference # [REDACTED]) to confirm that I would like to replace this ice maker at their expense. I was told that that was not an option. My only choice was to have Whirlpool replace the entire refrigerator at my cost. They offered to sell me a KitchenAide(KBBR306ESS 36) $8,458.00 at a reduced fee about $7,000.00. I asked if they would simply replace the ice maker, which they refused. Not only is the Jenn-Aire 36 refrigerator I own, a superior model to the KitchenAide but I am not in the market to spend 7K on a refrigerator. I understand that I can replace the icemaker myself, but I am surprised that they wont pay for a $495.00 ice maker. Although this is a 7year old unit and no longer under warranty, I feel that this situation is exempt since we are dealing with a possible serious health issue. I think Whirlpool has a responsibility to meet me at least half way. I find it preposterous that a corporation like Whirpool would expect a customer to have no other choice than to come up with $7,000.00+ for an obvious threat to someones health. As far as evidence of these metal particles, I was able to melt the ice and filter it. What remained are the tiny fragments (see attached). This is from one ice cycle.
