The product, in the report: Counter depth panel ready refrigerator with bottom freezer
On January 27, 2021, I purchased a JennAir refrigerator at a cost of $9,399.00 from Build.com. This JennAir refrigerator was a panel ready refrigerator meaning it did not come with the refrigerator doors or the freezer door. I purchased JennAir refrigerator doors and a JennAir freezer door to this refrigerator at an additional cost of $1,999.00. These were all JennAir doors. I had the refrigerator installed by a certified JennAir technician. The model numbers are as follows: Refrigerator - JF42NXFXDE Doors (3) - JBFFS42NHL I have attached a copy of the JennAir installation instructions. The technician that I used to put the doors on followed the JennAir instruction sheet and used JenAir supplied X6 phillips head screws (4 on each side). The refrigerator was not delivered until approximately May 14, 2021 and was installed sometime in June 2021. The freezer door (pictures of which are attached) which is made of stainless steel is a very heavy door and the handle is at the very top of the door as seen. I am providing you with a video of my wife opening both the refrigerator doors and the freezer door. You can see that the refrigerator doors open very easily (with 1 finger). However, the freezer door must be pulled very, very hard to get it open. On July 4, 2024, a 10 year old boy who was at my home to celebrate the 4th, pulled the freezer door open to get an ice cream and the freezer panel actually came off and almost fell on his foot. If it had, more than likely it would have broke or crushed his foot. I don’t know if JennAir has had other complaints about this problem. I asked them and they would not disclose that information. The outside stainless steel freezer panel is held onto the inside permanent freezer panel by 4 small wood screws (x6) on each side as you can see from the photos. These are very small wood screws and when the boy pulled on the door the screws stripped out of the wood and fell in front of him. I am attaching pictures of the freezer panel after it fell off of the permanent freezer panel. You can see from the pictures and the installation instructions that these small screws are JennAir’s way to attach the outside stainless steel panel to the freezer’s permanent panel. I have now put the panel back on by using bigger wood screws on each side. In addition to the 4 screws on each side that JennAir provided, I added 4 additional wood screws on each side by drilling new holes through the metal flange and then drilling additional smaller holes into the wood so the new screws can bite into the wood. I have added wood glue to the tip of each screw. Whoever designed the connection method of the outside heavy stainless steel panel to the inside permanent panel by using 4 small wood screws on each side made a mistake. All of these “panel ready” freezer doors made by JennAir use the same fastening method. There are 4 slots in the metal flange for the technician to put in the 4 JennAir screws. These slots were made by JennAir. The screws were provided by JennAir. The doors (both refrigerator and freezer doors) were made by JennAir and sold as JennAir accessories to be added to the refrigerator. Without these panels, there would be no doors at all. I have talked to JennAir and there response is that they will not address this situation. They are taking a “hands off” policy. I have repaired my freezer door myself since they would not. My concern is other people may experience the same issue but might not be as lucky as the 10 year old boy at our house. You should also know that we keep very little frozen items in the JennAir since we have two refrigerators with freezers outside in addition to a chest freezer.

The product, in the report: Jenn-Air builtin refrigerator with two doors and a lower drawer freezer.
We have a Jenn-Air refrigerator that has a built-in ice maker. Within two years of purchase, the ice maker began placing deposits of material in the ice. I contacted the manufacturer and initially they instructed me to change the type of water filter, which I did, but nothing changed. Then the manufacturer replaced the ice-maker out of warranty. However, less than two years after the replacement, the ice maker again began placing deposits of material in the ice. The manufacturer will not cover replacement or repair and I am concerned about toxic exposure. When the original ice maker was removed, it appeared that the interior lining of the ice maker was disintegrating. I am concerned that the contamination of the ice may contain heavy metals and/or plastics and or toxic chemicals and coatings. My wife and I and our five children regularly ingested the ice. Countless family, friends, and guests have ingested the ice as well. We have young children in our home and now we have grandchildren as well and I am concerned about dangerous toxin exposure through ingestion.

Jenn-Air Refrigerator Model JS42SEDBDA, Serial Number 11287379CG In-cabinet unit installed in kitchen at our residence. The refrigerator overheated while we were out of town. It got so hot inside the refrigerator that plastic shelves melted, food scorched, a beverage can exploded, plastic mayonnaise and mustard jars burst open and some parts of the jars melted, jar lids blew off, glass jars shattered, and ice in the built-in ice maker evaporated. Had our maintenance man not checked the house when he did, there is no doubt that the unit would have caught fire with catastrophic consequences.

The product, in the report: Ice maker of a side by side refrigerator.
I found white, very sharp, glass like shards in an iced drink. If chewed on or swallowed, this will cause harm. I noticed the particles before swallowing and no harm was done, however several pieces are missing and they might have been consumed already. The source of the debris is the ice maker of the Jenn-Air side by side fridge JCD2389GES.
It seems to me that this is a general design problem and the ice maker should be recalled.
The problem is that the very strong, geared motor couples to the ice maker via a plastic drive ring. The plastic is very hard and glass like. If it disintegrates, the debris will go into the ice tray.

On December 17th 2011 a 65 ft motor yacht (Fridaspirit) caught fire at Grove Harbour Marina in Coconut Grove, FL. The boat burned and sank. 5 other yachts were damaged or destroyed during this incident. It also caused damage to the Marina itself. The unit was factory installed equipment purchased with the yacht. The attorney has put the manufacturer on notice of the investigation and they have sent in house engineers.
The determination was made this morning that this product is involved in the recall for Release # 09-145. The attorney has preserved the remains of the refrigerator and internal component parts. The attorney would like an investigator from CPSC to examine the evidence. Investigation into the cause of the fire continues. The attorney says there were 4 persons on board the yacht at the time of the fire, and were treated for smoke inhalation. One of the occupants had severe second degree burns to the upper body.
The captain sustained a foot injury. According to the occupants of the yacht, they were sleeping on the lower deck when the husband of the family woke up early that morning. He went up to the main deck when he saw smoke coming from the vessel’s galley, on the port side. He went back downstairs, and woke up his family. By the time they went up to the main deck there was so much smoke that they could not see. The family was able to get off the boat.
