Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

The product, in the report: Icemaker auger
A small and potentially deadly piece of sharp plastic broke off the icemaker auger and landed for the 3rd time in a few years in the glass of a person close to me. The miracle is that no injury took place. I have a history file to share with you. Please send me an email address to proceed. Thanks!

No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 29, 2025, sent to the company Jan 2, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 30, 2026
The product, in the report: The base product is a “GE ENERGY STAR 25.7 Cu. Ft. Fingerprint Resistant French-Door Refrigerator Model GFE26JYMXFFS”. The defective shelf unit is GE Model WR32X23648.
The issue is with a General Electric (GE) refrigerator, specifically a glass shelf within that failed suddenly, dropping its contents (like glass bottles, etc.) onto my feet from a height of 4-5 feet. Fortunately, nothing shattered and I was not hurt. In seeking help from GE on replacing the part, I discovered a history of premature failures of the part on GE’s website. Failures reported sometimes happened within a few months of delivery. Mine started showing signs a few months after delivery but I didn’t expect it to fail catastrophically. Here is a link to the part website. Scroll down to reviews to see what I am talking about. [REDACTED] My concerns are for an elderly adult or child that could be struck by a heavy falling object, possibly shattered glass should a bottle break, and that GE is aware but chooses to do nothing substantial.

No one hurt Made Dec 16, 2025, sent to the company Jan 27, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 12, 2026
The product, in the report: Side by side refrigerator freezer
The consumer got ice from the dispenser and plastic pieces fell into her glass. She noticed this and did not drink from it. 12/15/2025: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the incident to their rep’s. She was passed around from person to another, before finally getting someone to consider her concerns. The consumer was told she must pay 50% for a replacement ice bucket and auger, and the company will cover the other amount. Furthermore, various representatives told her the product was out warranty. The consumer pointed out that this was not a warranty issue and that it presented a definite choking hazard. No other assistance was offered.

No one hurt Made Jun 18, 2024, sent to the company Jun 25, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 10, 2024
The product, in the report: Refrigerator freezer door handle. It is listed on your website Model GNE27JYMNFFS
GE has a recall for bottom freezers on a refrigerator and I believe the recalls are for refrigerators made between February 2020 and August 2021. The information is on your website. When opening the bottom freezer the handle falls off. This has happened multiple times to us and they replace the fasteners for the handle with the exact same fasteners that they originally used. They just keep putting on the exact same fasteners but new ones and handles keep falling off. Our last one stayed on probably 6 to 8 months. We had a tech out for another problem about 2 weeks ago and he put the handle back on. We had new fasteners because they send you two sets each time. That handle has come off twice already. It is insane to keep “fixing” something the same way and hoping something will be different each time! On your website it states that 71 people have reported this issue with 37 injuries, three being serious. Recall number is 22-117. We have had fasteners replaced at least four or five times. The fasteners are hard plastic. Freezer door SHOULD require a tug to get it open because that is how a freezer works, it needs to be a tight fit. Eventually the brackets are pulled towards the front and the handle slips off. I will guess at the date the first handle came off. We began using our refrigerator November 2nd 2021. It was purchased earlier because it was a new home in a new state and it was not installed until the end of October 2021. We have no injuries to report but a 7-year-old grandson and a 6-year-old granddaughter also had the handle come off when opening the freezer. This sends them on their behind sliding backwards and they could have hit the end of our island which is opposite of the refrigerator. Our model is listed on your website but sometimes GE tells me it’s not a recall. Our model is GNE 27JYMNFFS. Thank you!

No one hurt Made Mar 11, 2024, sent to the company Apr 30, 2024, published by CPSC May 14, 2024
The product, in the report: Refrigerator with freezer on top
Within a few weeks of having the refrigerator delivered to her home, the consumer noticed an odd chemical odor. She contacted the mfr. and reported the problem. They sent out a technician.
12/22/2023: The first technician came out and noticed the odor. He placed baking soda in the refrigerator and freezer. The technician told the consumer to wait a few months to see what happened. This did not solve the problem.
2/27/2024: A second technician came out and removed the back of the refrigerator. He discovered a purple substance dripping down the back of the exterior of the refrigerator. The technician told the consumer that he had never seen this before and he cleaned as much as he could. This technician examined the food and advised the consumer to remove all the food in the freezer, because the odor had permeated the items. The consumer was advised to wait 48 hours to see if the odor went away.
3/1/2024: The first technician came back out to the consumer’s home. He also opened the rear exterior of the refrigerator and saw that there was still a purple substance on the back of the refrigerator. He called the manufacturer for consultation. He was advised to wash the back exterior of the refrigerator with soap and water to remove the substance.
A few days later, the consumer called the manufacturer and scheduled another appointment for service. However, the technician called the consumer back and told her that he had done all that he could do, and it was up to the manufacturer to determine how they would handle the matter from this point. He did not come back out to her home.
The manufacturer gave the consumer several case numbers, but the latest one that she received is CASE# [REDACTED].
The consumer is unsure how this may impact her health.
Additional info:
3/11/24 GE supervisor contacted. Told me a 12 month warranty would be given instead of new refrigerator.
3/12/24 Home Depot supervisor contacted GE supervisor. Was told GE would review all reports on purple substance and [REDACTED] would call with result. Have not heard from them.
Two checks were sent to me. $100 for spoiled food and $200 for a stand alone freezer

The product, in the report: General Electric side by side refrigerator, Model Number GSE25GSHECSS
Ice Maker auger is made from clear plastic. Over time the auger disintegrates and breaks in to small pieces . Because the broken pieces are clear they are indistinguishable from the clear ice cubes. I didn’t realize it was broken until I had to pull the clear plastic pieces out of my mouth. Would be very easy to swallow. This is my second replacement. First was in 2019 for the same reason.

The product, in the report: This is a GE white garage ready top freezer refrigerator
Bought a GE “Garage” Refrigerator/Freezer. It is certified to work down to 38 Degrees F. The freezer temperature floats between 12 & 17 Degrees. Repairmen have been out to “service” it 3 times. They all said “that’s just the way they work”. THE FDA states that meat must be frozen at 0 Degrees F or lower to be safe and prevent bacteria growth. This freezer will not do that is anything stored in it could be contaminated with dangerous bacteria.

The product, in the report: Refrigerator with Bottom Freezer
Refrigerator not cooling, freezer not holding temperature.
Report update 12/13/22: Following our previous report filing, we have made arrangements to return our GE Profile refrigerator after suffering another bout of intestinal discomfort. My wife (76 yo) and I (78 yo) have vacillated about this over several months of throwing out food items and questioning if these were the result of retailer or supply chain issues, After monitoring 1 analog, then 2 digital and also our [REDACTED] digital food thermometers, it is painfully apparent that the product is unsafe at any set temperature. The owner’s manual suggests 37 degrees, however, the measurements we obtain are consistently 5-7 degrees warmer. I regularly tested core temperatures of apples (45 degrees) and cream cheese (43 degrees) chicken (45) while the temperature was set to 37. Even setting at 34 (max.) we’re unable to maintain safe food temperatures.
Unfortunately, we are 5 days beyond the “90 day” return policy of Home Depot and will have to actually return the machine ourselves to the store and pay a 15% restocking penalty. If they intend to restock this item under a “clearance” tag, I’m concerned that someone else may be harmed.
I have worked in the computer industry since 1963, repairing mainframe systems and in technical training, support and management for over 40 years on commercial, industrial and medical products so I have enough knowledge and experience to understand this problem. There is a design flaw either in the placement of the thermistor(s) in the unit or the algorithm used by the software to control the airflow and temperature.
Having both survived cancer and so far the tridemic, please investigate this situation before someone is seriously harmed.

The product, in the report: Bottom freezer refrigerator I have no idea of when this refrigerator was manufactured, although it was some time in 2022
Bottom freezer handle of GE refrigerator came loose causing my wife to fall backwards onto the floor. Our fridge is new and not covered by the GE recall of similar products having this problem. Luckily, she was not seriously injured. I reattached the handle according to instruction, but it has come off twice since. Actually, this product was purchased months before it was manufactured, but this form doesn’t allow me to say that. It was purchased in February, delivered in June, and manufactured some time between those 2 dates.

3/2022: The handle on the freezer drawer detached, when the consumer’s husband was opening it. The husband fell on the floor, but was not injured.
4/2022: The consumer called the manufacturer and inquired about CPSC Recall# 22-167. She was told that her model was not included. The rep. (name unknown) told her that he was going to put her in touch with who she needed to speak with. However, she held the phone a long time and then the rep. hung up. When she called them a 2nd time, she was told that they could refer her to a local service technician and she could pay for the repair.
She has not had the door repaired so far.
Report Update: I, the consumer called 1-888-345-467 on April 21, 2022 & spoke with [REDACTED] (female) who said my model # was not on recall, but said she did not see why not that this issue would be and could be repaired free of charge; she transferred me to someone named [REDACTED] in Florida for repairs; [REDACTED] said I had to pay for this, and I said if the handle is falling apart like the others, it should be repaired free of charge; he said he would transfer me to consumer complaints & held the phone for a long time, then hung up on me.
The consumer believes that the CPSC Recall# 22-167, may need to be expanded.

My GE Refrigerator (Model #: GFE26JYMFS) (Serial #:TR308571), immediately after purchase in March 2021 the bottom freezer drawer handle popped off when attempting to open. I called Lowe’s who we purchased through. They sent out a repair man and said it was the installer who did it wrong. Popped it back on and left. Since March of 2021 at least once a week, the handle still pops off. I pop it back on but several times I have fallen back and luckily caught myself. It was just announced from GE that a similar make/model has a recall for the same defect. However, when contacting GE to make a claim they said my model is not currently part of the recall (despite the same exact issue). They stated if I needed it repaired I would need to pay for service call. I asked to make a report so that this model can be placed in the recall.

The Plastic Ice Maker Dispenser “Auger” on certain GE Refrigerators can break, causing sharp pieces of plastic to be dispensed , along with the ice, into a glass of ice water. These pieces of plastic are NOT readily distinguishable from the ice in the glass; and can be swallowed resulting in serious injury or death. I am now on my Third Auger assembly; because of the broken pieces of plastic falling into my ice water; and nearly being swallowed by my family and pets.
The plastic on the actual Ice Bucket and Ice Bucket Dispenser Auger Plate also break off and can end up in the glass of Ice Water. Attached is a copy of my most recent Repair Orders for GE parts wherein the Plastic off the actual Ice Bucket as well as the Dispenser Auger Plate have also broken off, and ended up being dispensed thru the ice dispenser into the glass.

The product, in the report: The product was a General Electric (GE) refrigerator with a freezer on top and a refrigerator below. The model number of the unit was GTS18DCPWRBB. The serial number for the unit was VL526408. The dimensions of the unit were (HxWxD) 66 - 1/8, 20 1/2, 30 1/4. The product color was black.
We returned from a week-long vacation at the beach to find our freezer in our refrigerator had caught fire. The unit was being used in the kitchen of our two story home. The entire inside of the freezer was covered in black soot, food packages were melted and destroyed, and a hole was burned/melted from the freezer almost completely through to the refrigerator below. From looking at the unit, it looks like the ice maker inside caught fire even though we did not have the ice maker hooked up and it was never used. Luckily no one was injured and the fire was contained to the freezer unit.

The product, in the report: General Electric Refrigerator Freezer - Bottom door freezer Model #GDE23GSH
Reference: GE Refrigerator Model # GDE23GSHBRSS Serial Number LF308407 On February 21, 2021 I opened the refrigerator (top) door to remove something and the door fell off completely. No one was injured but the door is heavy and if anyone were sitting at the dinner it would have caused head injury. We reattached the door, although the part holding the door in place is made of cheap plastic. A replacement part was not available. On Saturday, March 13, I opened the door to clean the top and again the door came crashing down on top of a chair that anyone could have been sitting on, contents crashing around. In trying to attached the door again, it was noted that the part that broke was in the door and rests on the hinge for the swivel of the door is made from cheap plastic and held in with some kind of foam. It seems inevitable that this will happen again with the potential to injure me or anyone in my family or visiting.

The product, in the report: General Electric Side by side refrigerator Model GSE22ETHCCC
The consumer used a plastic cup and filled double layer plastic bags with 3 cups of ice. Once she was done with using the ice, she poured the remaining ice cubes in a flower pot, so that it could water a plant. Sometime later, she noticed something sticking up in the plant and discovered that it was a piece of plastic (approx. 3” x 1-1/2”).. * The consumer has never used glass to scoop ice out of the freezer.
The consumer removed the bin that catches the ice in the freezer and examined the plastic auger. There was one piece that was broken and it fit the piece that was found in the flower pot, just like a jigsaw puzzle. The auger has a frosted color and looks similar to ice.
Same day of the incident, the consumer contacted the manufacturer. Initially, the firm wanted to charge her to send a technician out, but the consumer had a protection plan and noted that she should not be charged. The consumer was referred back to the warranty service company. The consumer called the warranty company. The firm sent her a replacement bin.
The consumer is extremely concerned that slithers could have fallen off of the auger and injured her or her family.
(dates unknown) In the past, the consumer experienced a problem where the ice was not being crushed as it should when that feature was used. She contacted the firm and they sent out a technician. He ran hot water over the part. The consumer followed up with the firm further and a new replacement part was sent out to her.
The consumer did a search for the issue of the freezer’s auger breaking, online, and she found numerous reports through [REDACTED]. One man even brought this issue to the news and made videos of this problem.
The firm’s rep’s have told her that her information would be passed on to their engineers. The consumer wanted to speak with the firm’s Engineering Dept., but she has not been able to, even after several calls/requests.
I would like ta add The broken piece that I found looks like ICE or GLASS, is the plastic used to make the auger defective? The auger should be made of a different color than ice or glass. If it is made of a very bright color such as RED OR ORANGE OR ANYOTHER color that sticks out, the person using it may be aware of a PROBLEM.
My last GE ice bin had a metal worm mechanism to push the ice through the chute. THAT IS WHAT GE NEEDS TO DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. What are the chances of pieces of that breaking off?
I just saw on SAFERPRODUCTS.GOV other people have had the same issue as mine dating back to 2016. What is going to be done about this?

The product, in the report: side by side refrigerator freezer (fridge on 1 side, freezer on the other)
8/2019: The ice maker has a clear plastic auger, which is used to dispense ice from the freezer. One piece of the auger broke off and fell into the ice. The consumer called the manufacturer about this matter and the firm provided the entire compartment which contains the auger. Therefore, the consumer was able to install that compartment himself. * The firm also gave the consumer a CASE# [REDACTED].
5/2020: The consumer found another broken piece of the auger in his glass. He discontinued using the auger to dispense ice. The consumer was grabbing ice out of the storage bin by hand, when he found additional broken pieces of the plastic auger and one was as large as: 1” x 1-1/2”.
The consumer called the manufacturer about this matter. He reiterated that the firm should make the auger out of metal or a different color. The firm offered to replace the refrigerator, but the consumer said that doesn’t address the problem. In the end, the firm agreed to provide the entire replacement compartment that contains the auger. * The firm gave the consumer a new CASE# [REDACTED].
The consumer was told that he would have the product within 2 days, but he never heard back from them.
5/28/2020: The consumer called the firm and was on hold for 1 hour and 10 minutes. The firm’s rep. told the consumer that the part was on back-order and had to be ordered from another warehouse. They assured him that he should receive it by at least 6/4/2020.
The consumer is extremely concerned, because they are providing him with another clear, plastic auger and he feels it presents an identical problem.

The product, in the report: kitchen refrigerator.
I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator, model GSC23LSRC SS, serial number GH415160. It was put in use in my house in May of 2005. Never had any problem until yesteday evening Dec 23 2019. My wife heard some noises in the kitchen, and when she was near the refrigerator she smelled burned plastic. We did not see anything burning, so thought nothing of it. About 15 minutes later, there was another sound that was very noticeable, and stronger burning smell from the refrigerator. I laid flat on the floor, looking into the bottom of the refrigerator through the plastic grill, and saw a flame on the bottom side of the fridge. I quickly unplugged the refrigerator. I have not used it since then, and intend to dispose of the refrigerator. We are buying a new refrigerator. I believe this refrigerator GE Profile family model is pretty popular back then, and think maybe many are being used today. I have read somewhere there was a class action lawsuit against GE for this refrigerator in 2013. I just learned about this lawsuit after this incident. I thought the responsible government agency should know about the potential fire hazard of this refrigerator and the like models. I still have the refrigerator, until Dec 30, when HomeDepot will deliver new refrigerator and take a way this dangerous appliance. It was a good thing we were home at that time. I don’t want to think what could happen if we were not home.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Refrigerator
I am writing to report a serious concern with our GE profile refrigerator, model PSHS6PGZBESS. My complaint focuses on the fridge’s ice maker. The ice maker has an auger in the plastic ice tray, which rotates to stir, break up and release ice from the fridge. Our auger, which looks like a big clear plastic corkscrew, cracked and released sharp shards of clear plastic into my drinking cup. I, fortunately, did not consume any sharp pieces of plastic to my knowledge and observed these shards at the bottom of my cup. I am concerned, however, that this product defect can cause harm to other consumers. It is abundantly predictable that a clear plastic auger that is tasked with churning and breaking up frozen ice cubes will break over time. It is equally predictable the resulting shards of plastic from the auger will land in someone’s drinking cup, potentially be consumed, and cause injury. GE could easily use a metal auger at an increased cost and eliminate this risk to the consumer. I feel that this is an unacceptable and hidden risk to GE’s customers that could cause serious harm or potentially death.

The product, in the report: Refrigerator
The consumer indicates that he poured ice and water in a glass from his refrigerator before bedtime. In the morning, the consumer woke up and noticed that there were transparent plastic pieces laying in the bottom of glass checked his refrigerator and noticed that its auger was indeed broken and that the plastic pieces in his glass came from the auger itself.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation; the representative he spoke sent him a replacement ice bucket free of charge. The consumer advised the representative that the auger should be made from a different material so as not to break, or not be transparent so that it can be identified if poured in a glass. The representative informed him that there was no need for this as he was the first person to ever complain about the issue.
The consumer plans on keeping his refrigerator for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: General Electric Refrigerator Model GSH22JGDD BB with Componx Inc. ice maker model #197D2303G080
I have a General Electric Refrigerator Model GSH22JGDD BB that has a Componx Inc. Ice Maker Model #-197D2303G080. I dispensed ice cubes from the door and added water. I drank from the glass and a piece of plastic went down my throat. I looked in the glass and there were other shards of thick plastic indistinguishable from ice. I looked in automatic ice maker and the plastic screw that moves the ice was made of the thick plastic and there were other shards that had broken off the screw. I rushed to the emergency room at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis on Ballas Road and the doctor tried to remove the shard but was unsuccessful. He told me to return home and hopefully it would pass through my system. It had been two weeks and I assume I have successfully passed the broken piece of the plastic screw.

The product, in the report: GE Profile model PWE23KMKES, French door refrigerator with lower freezer drawer.
Fire hazard -- there was smoke noted inside my GE Profile Refrigerator, Model PWE23KMKES, serial number GG502393. It is a French door model with a lower freezer compartment. My granddaughter opened the door of the refrigerator and the refrigerator compartment was filled with smoke. There was condensate on most of the food products and the temp was 39 degrees and falling. The food was all removed and taken to another refrigerator/freezer in the garage. Later, after unplugging the appliance, we noted the deli tray would not open. When more force was applied, the deli tray was freed to open. The plastic interior had a hole burned in it and the tray could not open because it was fused to the back wall by the burning plastic.
I’m convinced that if we had not been home, there would have been a resulting fire. I took pictures of the hole in the back panel. It was large enough to place my hand through the opening. If we hadn’t unplugged the unit, there would have been a risk of a fire. If you want pictures of the interior affected, please request and I will send pictures.
I tried to speak with people at GE to see whether there has already been a recall on that product and gave up after several attempts. Their website did not list a recall on this product.

The product, in the report: GE, General Electric, Side by Side Refrigerator/ Freezer Ice Bin Auger. Model of Fridge # PSHF6PGZBEWW
GE Ice Dispenser Bin Plastic Auger broke (cracked and plastic pieces came off) on my side by side refrigerator/ freezer made by GE (General Electric). The plastic on the ice Auger broke (cracked) off nearest to the dispenser opening and 1 piece of the 2 pieces that had broken off the auger ended up in my drinking glass when the ice was being dispensed out. When I was drinking, the 1 piece of plastic made contact with my lips, mouth opening, when drinking from my glass, which caused me to notice something was not right and stop drinking. I then inspected the glass and ice located inside. This is when I noticed I had a 1 piece of plastic in my cup. The other piece of the broken plastic I found was still inside the ice bin and I found it when I inspected where the plastic had come from. It seems to me, the plastic could possibly not be strong enough and it is possibly more prone to breaking than when some manufacturers used metal Augers in the ice dispensers. Someone could possibly, if the plastic piece was small enough choke on the plastic. Also, someone could bite down hard on this plastic and cause some kind of dental issue. Luckily, this did not happen to me, thank goodness, but it did really make me think when the problem happened. It seems reasonable to think that maybe this part should be redesigned to be stronger so no one has to have the experience that happened to me.

We have a GE side by side refrigerator Model PZS25KSECFSS. The ice maker has a plastic auger (part# WR17X11263) that has broken twice in 14 months. The ice chips of pieces of the plastic auger until it doesn’t even work anymore. Beside the broken part, there is potential risk for swallowing or cutting your mouth on the small chips. I chew on ice chips alot and have had a small piece of the broken auger in my mouth (11-30-2016). This could have cut me, could have choked on it or broken a tooth. You can’t tell the diffence because they look just like the ice chips. I did not get hurt but someone else could. Also, broken pieces have ended up in our garbage disposal from dumping glasses out (12-1-2016). It didn’t break ours this time but could next time. This auger should not be made from plastic.

We own a GE side by side refrigerator. Recently, the ice-maker’s plastic auger broke, and a sharp, thin piece came out with the ice into my wife’s cup. She makes a smoothie for breakfast every morning. The plastic is not detectable with the ice and she ground up a piece of the plastic and ingested a few pieces before she figured it out. She came to me alarmed that something was stuck in her throat.
I worked backward and found the shards of the plastic still in this ice bin. I removed and took pictures of the broken pieces (attached).

The product, in the report: GE Adora Side by Side Refrigerator with brittle plastic auger in the ice bucket.
On 5/27/16, I inspected my ice maker bucket because over the last 2 to 3 days, my family experienced slowed ice delivery. Upon pulling the bucket out, two piece of the plastic auger were found. The two pieces were matched to the auger and two small pieces were determined to be missing. In order to find the missing pieces, the ice was removed and placed into a cooler to allow the ice to melt and the emptied bucket was inspected. One of the two pieces was found at the bottom of the bucket. The melted ice was then strained through a 1mm mesh strainer. Unfortunately, the second small piece was not found and is still missing. The portion of the auger where the missing piece originates was measured. If still intact, the missing piece is estimated to be 7mm x 2mm x 4mm in size and likely has sharp edges. The opening and chute leading out of the bucket was inspected and the opening appears to be close enough to the bottom for a small piece of this size to likely be pushed out and into a cup when dispensing ice. Since the plastic is clear, it is unlikely that a consumer would see a small piece of broken plastic. It would also be unlikely that a small piece would be detected by a consumer especially if it were to fall into crushed ice and the ice consumed. On 5/27/16, GE Customer Relations was emailed via their website to inform them of the incident and to discuss the safety risk at hand. Since three weeks went by with no contact, I contacted them by phone on 6/17/16. The representative took note of the incident and recommended a technician be sent out to inspect and repair the ice bucket and auger respectively. The decision was made to save the $99 service fee and I inspected the ice crusher and the bucket once again throughout. No foreign material was found. At this time, there have not been any known injuries, but the potential for a consumer to be injured by a broken piece of the auger is too high to for there brittle plastic augers to be installed. Please assist getting these removed from the market before consumers are injured.

The product, in the report: GENERAL ELECTRIC SIDE BY SIDE REFRIGERATOR
I am the owner of a General Electric side by side refrigerator model PIE23NGTCFSV. This refrigerator comes with an ice dispenser. I gave my 5 year old son - who has autism - a glass of water with ice - dispensed from the refrigerator. After a few minutes I saw him choking. I found in his mouth a piece of plastic (clear color - same as the ice!!! - photo included). This came from the auger (located in the ice drawer) which pushed the ice from the drawer - through the dispenser to the glass.
Kindly note the following: It is the 3rd time this part breaks on my refrigerator. The last time (2nd time) was a year and a half ago. At that time I raised my concerns as to the safety of this product, and the GE authorized technician informed me that this happens because the ice drawer over-floats (which is true). He claimed that GE is aware of this and have changed the part that stops the production of ice in the dispenser, so that this does not happen. He advised me to purchase the new part and replace the old one, so that this does not happen again, which I did in order to prevent any future accidents.
I decided to raise this safety concern with you, as I read in Amazon comments that other people - in the US- had swallowed parts of the auger.

GE Model GBS20ESHBRSS, Serial # [REDACTED] was delivered and installed in my home on 05/07/2015. The refrigerator was delivered with wheels that have no way of locking in place. Consequently, when pulling opening the door to the refrigerator or freezer, the entire refrigerator unit rolls forward. In fact, the unit rolled forward and caught the foot of a person causing a minor laceration and pain.
I checked GE’s online documentation for this unit and it makes no mention of rollers, only leveling legs. There are no leveling legs on this unit. I then contacted GE at 800.207.8665 and spoke with a rep. She confirmed that this unit does not have leveling legs, only rolling wheels and she stated that there is no way to lock the wheels to keep the refrigerator from rolling when the doors are pulled open.
I was subsequently transferred to GE Customer Service and case # [REDACTED] was opened.

This incident involved an ice maker. Model # PSS26SGRBSS-Serial #RFG413246. The ice maker was making noise. This means it was not making ice . I removed storage bin. There was an ice cube stuck to bottom of unit in back . I reached back to remove and my fingers touched bottom of unit where ice cubes are made. My skin turned white and I was burnt immediately. This is the second time this has happened. The prior time I was not only burnt but also shocked. I reported the incident to GE. They sent out repairman who stated that it was from a heating element in the bottom of the ice maker and that they have been making it this way for 42 years. The trip charge was waived and I was charged $99.00 for labor for installing ice maker under warranty. I believe this is a serious design flaw. There is only 1-1/2 inches clearance in space involved. There is no cover on heating element.

Our refrigerator GE model GSS25QSTSS purchased in 3/2007 caught on fire today and left black soot covering the entire inside of both refrigerator and freezer compartments. Our condo tenant smelled something burning and traced it to the fridge. She saw the soot after unplugging the unit and opening the doors. Upon researching the topic I come to find out there is a pending class action lawsuit on this topic.
Luckily our tenant was at the condo when this happened and unplugged the unit. I have taken pictures and written and email to GE. There are complaints like this all over the internet and even a you tube video of one fire. Something wrong is going on here with that many identical complaints, and very dangerous at that.
