Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 31, 2020, sent to the company Apr 8, 2020, published by CPSC Apr 22, 2020

The product, in the report: GE Side by Side Refrigerat Model GSHS6HGDBCSS

GE Side by Side Refrigerator / Freezer, (Model # GSHS6HGDBCSS, and other similar models); has a potential deadly safety issue with the ice maker:

    (1) Refrigerator ice bucket cover, crushing housing and dispenser auger plate WR17X11497 , and (2) Refrigerator ice maker auger assembly WR17X11939

are made of plastic. The plastic can, and does, crack and break; dispersing pieces of sharp, rigid plastic into the glass held under the dispenser. The potentially deadly pieces of clear plastic are not easily distinguishable from the crushed or cubed ice.

I had several pieces of broken plastic fall into my glass, held under the dispenser. One piece was a couple of inches long; and the other pieces were about a half inch in length. These are sharp and rigid pieces of plastic that broke loose.

Even after ordering and replacing the components above; I still found a couple pieces of small sharp pieces of plastic in my glass. Not sure if these additional and subsequent pieces of plastic were left over from the dispensing hole; or if the replacement components broke again.

These pieces of plastic are small enough, rigid enough, and sharp enough that they can lodge in a person’s throat or intestines and possibly result in choking or death.

    Extremely Dangerous!!!
