The product, in the report: GE Profile 15-inch panel-ready built-in nugget ice maker, model UNC15NPRII. The appliance produces chewable nugget ice and has a clear storage bin, integrated water filtration, interior LED lighting, and built-in Wi-Fi. Approximate dimensions are 34.125 in. high x x 14.875 in. wide x 22.75 in. deep
On September 25, 2026, my child was drinking water from a reusable water bottle containing ice produced by a GE Profile undercounter ice maker, model UNC15NPRII. While drinking, a sharp, rigid piece of clear plastic entered his mouth and was nearly swallowed. The fragment was removed and no known injury was observed at the time.
After discovering the plastic, I immediately stopped using the ice maker and inspected the remaining ice. I found two additional pieces of similar clear plastic within the ice, also having sharp or jagged edges.
I have retained all three fragments and photographed them. I have not identified the exact component from which they originated. However, the fragments resemble clear plastic used on an internal reservoir/window component of the appliance. I have not disassembled the appliance to determine the source.
The ice maker was drained, powered off, and has remained out of service pending inspection because of concern that additional sharp plastic fragments could enter ice intended for consumption.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Refrigerator Model GYE22HSKFSS GE Case Number 10046753
GE Refrigerator French Door Model GYE22HDJFSS - does not keep food at a safe temperature happening for the 2nd time. We purchased GE appliances in Nov 2017 while kitchen was being remodeled. Installed in Feb 2018. In Nov 2022 temperature of internal refrigerator rose to over 60 degrees. Went to place of purchase and they recommended a repair person. They replaced the fan that stopped working for $470. We lost the entire contents of the refrigerator. One year later the temperature issue has returned. On May 2, 2023 the entire inside of the refrigerator was sweating. The temperature read 62 degrees at [REDACTED]. Checked the following morning when first opening the refrigerator, the temperature was 48 degrees. Complainned to GE. They offered a replacement refrigerator for more money than what is advertised locally. This should be a complete recall and have the issue fixed or refrigerator replaced. This is now a health and safety food concern with temperatures unable to cool.
*According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a safe recommended refrigerator temperature is at or below 40° F (4° C) to prevent bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, and C. botulinum from growing1. However, most experts recommend that the ideal temperature setting for a refrigerator is between 35-38°F (1.6-3.3°C)23. This temperature ensures food safety by giving a 2-5 degree buffer in case the temperature gauge isn’t wholly accurate2.

The product, in the report: 22cu ft GE Profile Series Refrigerator
GE Refrigerator Control Board mounted on the rear of the unit caught fire. We were originally drawn to the unit due to the door open alarm sounding while the door was closed. During that time, we heard a “sizzling” sound coming from the back of the fridge, followed by a plume of smoke rising from behind. We were able to pull the unit out and remove the electrical cord from the outlet, which stopped the sizzle and burn activity. We cleared the house of smoke / electrical fire smell and removed the cover to find the control board blackened. Photos were taken.

The product, in the report: GE PROFILE COUNTER-DEPTH 22.6 CU. FT. STAINLESS SIDE-BY-SIDE REFRIGERATOR PSC23NSTSS
This report is in regards to a GE PROFILE COUNTER-DEPTH 22.6 CU. FT. STAINLESS SIDE-BY-SIDE REFRIGERATOR - Model PSC23NSTSS. This Unit was purchased in 2008 and has been used only in the home for that period. Over the life of this product, it has had numerous issues mostly related to the main circuit board (aka Motherboard). We have had that item replaced at least twice as it has resulted in unexplained changes to the preset temperature, or in other words, reset the temperature to a much higher value such that the fridge stopped cooling. The only way to remedy this was to literally reboot the device by unplugging and the restoring power. This most recent occurrence however resulted in an extreme situation whereby it appears that both the internal light bulbs remained on even with the door shut, and the defrost or other system actually was producing heat in the unit. On the first occasion of opening the door after this occurrence, there was the smell of burning plastic, the temperature gauge indicated 85 degrees and there were food items that were literally hot to the touch. Not warm, but hot. The tub of butter was completely melted, packages of shredded cheese were simply gelatinous, and glass jars were uncomfortable to touch. Further, a plastic shroud covering a light bulb had melted and was in contact with the bulb, generating the smell. Unchecked, I am not sure that this would not have presented a fire hazard.

GE Profile Refrigerator Model PCF23MGWA CC
A circuit breaker blew and the clothes washer and the above appliance ceased to function. There was no evidence of additional loads on either appliance. After resetting the circuit breaker the clothes washer functioned but the GE Profile did not. After waiting a period the GE Profile was plugged back into the outlet whereupon it started briefly only to be followed by several popping sounds and the smell of acrid smoke. Removing the back plates revealed a scorched cover and several charred wires and parts.

GE Profile refrigerator purchased December 2010 from P.C. Richard in Yonkers, NY Model No. PSB42YSXASS, Serial No. DT590119
On November 20, 2015 our nine-month old baby was crawling by the fridge and stuck his right hand fingers into the metal grate at the bottom of the fridge. When he pulled them out it cut the skin off the top of two fingers leaving a crater in one and a gash in the other. We immediately took him to his doctor who responded to the emergency by applying a tight bandage to stop the bleeding. After two days with that, the bandage was loosened. He is healing.
THE ISSUE: The metal grate is sharp, like a knife. It should have been sanded down. It is also an appealing feature to a baby because it is shiny, and it is hidden from an adult’s view because of it’s position on the floor under the fridge.
I think it is very reasonable to believe that other crawling age babies have had the same injury and some may have fared even worse.

Last night around 2am, I came down to get milk for my 13 month old and found the refrigerator smoking. My husband and I quickly unplugged it and moved it outside. A part on the inside of the fridge caught on fire and melted it. The door was stuck as one of the bins on the door melted into the unit that caught fire. We lost all the food in both the fridge and freezer. Our entire house smells like burning plastic and we had to throw out all the food in both the fridge and the freezer. Had we not been home or had the baby not woke me up, we could have been in serious danger and had serious home damage. We purchased this house about 2.5 months ago and the refrigerator was part of the sale.

The product, in the report: GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator, model #PSHS9PGZBCSS, purchased NEW in January 2011.
We purchased the refrigerator in January 2011 for our family of 5 to enjoy. In May 2011, we noticed pieces of clear plastic in our crushed ice. The icemaker auto dispenser quit working. Deduced that the plastic on the auger that moves the ice to the crusher had broken. Contacted Sears, and they replaced the entire bin & auger for free. By February 2012, it broke AGAIN. More plastic in the ice. Now was out of warranty. Now we have to order another new one, at a cost (through partsdirect.com) of $70. We can order the upgraded auger that the manufacturer now provides, but it will cost over $156. From what the tech at partsdirect can tell, they now make it out of metal. Shouldn’t GE be providing the replacement part for free, as a recall? After all, in reading the incident reports on other GE fridge models, this is a very common problem. Clearly, it was a manufacturing flaw.

The product, in the report: GE Profile Refrigerator
We have a 6 year old GE Profile refrigerator. Yesterday evening, we began to smell burning plastic. After searching the house for the smell, we decided to inspect the refrigerator. We heard a sizzling noise and then saw flames coming from under the refrigerator. Upon reseach online, I have now learned that others have experiened this same issue. I would think that this should be a significant issue for GE and that a recall should have been in place to prevent damage and potential loss of life.

The product, in the report: Profile ref/freezer with built-in ice maker
I am recently noticed pieces of white plastic in cups of ice dispensed out of my GE Profile refrigerator model # PSS26NSWC. Yesterday however, a large piece broke off and came out. I am not sure how long this has been going on, but upon closer examination pieces are missing that I cannot account for. It is just my husband and I, so I know it is not being overused or misused. I contacted GE and they said that they have not had any complaints and it is not on the recall list. They did say they could send out a technician if I agree to pay $89.95 for the service call plus parts & labor. This has got to be considered a health hazard and needs to be investigated further. There are too many complaints about the same problem to be an isolated incident. I emailed GE consumer complaints and if they do not respond I will take any and all actions necessary in order to get them to respond.

The product, in the report: Side by Side GE Profile Refrigerator
We purchased a GE Profile refrigerator from Sears in February 2011. In March of 2012 we found pieces of plastic in our drink glasses. Looking into this further, we found that when getting ice from the ice dispenser on the front the refrigerator, the plastic auger in the ice tray was breaking off and coming out with the ice. Being clear like the ice you did not see the pieces of plastic till later. Knowing the refrigerator was out warranty I purchased a new ice tray and auger (they are only sold together) off the Internet. The replacement part was a genuine GE Replacement part exactly like the original. They come completely assembled and all that is required is to slide the old one out and slide the new one in. The new one worked up until the first of September of 2012 when we had some family over, and once again we found pieces of plastic in a glass of ice after it had been drank out of. This refrigerator is in a private household with only myself and my wife residing. So over use or abuse is out of the question. With the plastic pieces getting into someone’s glass unnoticed, there is a potential of getting into their mouth and causing harm. I have sent GE 2 emails about this, but have not gotten any response. I also still have the original ice tray and auger. Here the information on the Refrigerator. The product, in the report: Ice Maker Bucket/Dispenser
We have a GE Profile Refrigerator. The ICE MAKER BUCKET, part number WR29X10097, has plastic pieces that break off, and will dispense the plastic in your drink. These small pieces of plastic can be lodged in your throat, or swallowed. I am not certain how long its been doing this! Two large pieces were dispensed and I was not sure where they came from. Later, I noticed small pieces mixed in with the ice. After a close inspection, I discovered the plastic near where the ice drops into your glass was breaking off. I took pictures of the two large pieces and the location on the ice bucket where they were breaking off and sent them to GE. They have not responded. It has been a couple of weeks.

The product, in the report: GE Profile refrigerator PSS26MSWC Ice maker built into freezer
The drive cup for our built in ice maker in our GE Profile refrigerator (model PSS26MSWC) has broken apart several times causing plastic pieces to be mixed in with the ice. On several occasions the plastic has ended up in our drinks and in turn in our mouth. The cup has been replaced several times and continues to break after normal use. It is made of a white plastic so it is undetectable once mixed in with the ice. I am very concerned that someone will eventually swallow one of these sometimes sharp pieces of plastic. A quick search of the internet will reveal this to be a common problem. GE should recall this part and design something that will stand up to the cold temps of a freezer. To truly be safe we will need to stop using the ice dispenser.

The product, in the report: Model # pscs3vgxss Serial # gr400994
The refrigerator light switch on my two-year-old GE Profile counter depth side-by-side refrigerator/ freezer failed. As a result, the interior lights in the refrigerator comparment remained on when the refrigerator door was closed and the two factory-installed 60 watt bulbs above the deli compartment melted their mountings and came into contact with surrounding plastic. From their new position, the bulbs, still lit, proceeded to melt the plastic light cover, the deli compartment lid and the refrigerator liner without tripping the breaker, the GFI, or a fuse in the unit. There was no failsafe. The smell of burning plastic was our only warning. Switches fail, but the consequence of a predictable failure should not be an electrical fire. Refrigerator model # pscs3vgxss, serial #gr400994. Installed 6/19/2009. GE part # wr23x10530 failed.
