my mother, in her 70s, bought a frigidaire refrigerator. within months, the crispers and shelves, WHICH CONTAIN GLASS, started breaking. turns out that frigidaire considers broken shelving and crispers “cosmetic,” so the 2 year extended warranty bought through lowe’s doesn’t cover such. i put in a call to frigidaire and was told that this was common, and that replacement shelves and crispers were $100 or so apiece, plus the installation charge. they scam consumers out of millions of years on this design-- not flaw-- but FEATURE. they are purposely designing their parts for their products to break, to generate millions each year in repairs, AND INCLUDING GLASS IN THE DESIGN!!!

this should be illegal. i’ll be satisfied if we can get their products listed as unsafe, due to the fact that they have included glass in this purposeful design.

The product, in the report: Gallery Side by Side Refrigerator

Caller is planning to rent condo as landlord. While conducting a final walk through she noticed problems with refrigerator.

She contacted CPSC to report that when she opened the refrigerator to replace the burned out lightbulb, she noticed that there was burning just above where the light bulb is screwed in about the size of a half dollar. The refrigerator liner is splitting at all outside areas just outside of the entire circumference of the burn.

The lightbulb was replaced but then removed again due to caller noticing that the bulb was touching the burned portion because the plastic that is above the area that holds the bulb is melted and hanging down slightly.

Caller is reporting this incident as a safety hazard.

She has not yet notified the manufacturer but does intend to notify them in the near future.

If bulb is left burning then question of fire hazard is raised.

Caller states that it is necessary for her to repair this refrigerator before she can rent the unit to tenants and that she requests to be reimbursed at manufacturer expense for the repair, parts and labor costs.
