This incident has had a serious impact on my living situation, health, and emotional well-being. I am requesting an immediate investigation into this products safety, and I strongly urge you to consider initiating a recall or consumer alert to prevent harm to others.

The product, in the report: Rival Electric Hot Water Kettle. Model # MK-17P13B2 (sold by Walmart). Similar model to previous Rival Hot Water Kettle, which was recalled. This unit was to be the replacement.
Product is consistently unusually hot in the base/heating element, periodically sparking and emitting smoke from base with frequent use (1-2 times per day, 4 days per week).

The Walmart “Rival Brand Water Kettle - WK8283CU” shattered violently and noisily. A few plastic pieces from the top of the unit and...what looks like...sand blow all over the place. Unfortunately, I just now read of the recall online.

No one hurt Made May 26, 2016, sent to the company Jun 16, 2016, published by CPSC Jun 30, 2016
The product, in the report: Rival 1.7 liter kettle model wk8283cu
Rival 1.7 liter kettle EXPLODED with a report like a shotgun and blew pieces of plastic, metal and hot water as far as 15 ft. One piece of plastic 1 x 6 inches went directly over the chair my grandson had been sitting in seconds before. My wife and grandson missed possible severe injury and scalding only because they had stepped behind a cupboard that blocked the direct blast only seconds before it went off. I have photos of the remains of the kettle and the mess it made. The kettle had been used 5-10 minutes before the incident and the switch was in the OFF position. Apparently even though turned off it never disconnected and water somehow got into the heating element, shorted and blew. the heating element itself exploded and one piece 1 inch long went off with such force that it straightened the metal out and blew it about 10 ft across the room where a cabinet stopped it. Had anyone been hit by any of the shrapnel or hot water it could have resulted in serious injuries and I am very upset about this, I just today found out that these kettles had been recalled because of failures but have not seen areport of one actually exploding. I have many photos of the pot and mess.

No one hurt Made May 6, 2016, sent to the company May 13, 2016, published by CPSC May 27, 2016
The product, in the report: Rival Electric Water Heater, White, two piece electric set with removable pitcher.
My electric water heater did not function properly about a week or two ago. I plugged it in, filled the water pitcher, turned on the button and heard a small pop and felt a shock. I thought this “shock” to be static electricity, but did not realize that it was not heating. After a few minutes i realized “no heated water”, so i turned the button to OFF and then turned back to ON again and it worked. I didn’t think twice about this until i saw this “recall” notice. I was not seriously harmed, but the electric sting and the pop sound let me know there is a problem.
