The product, in the report: Chefman Custom-Temp 1.8L Electric Kettle which is sold at Costco. Link to the product: https://www.costco.com/p/-/chefman-custom-temp-18l-electric-kettle/4000337737
I purchased a Chefman Electric Tea Kettle from Costco, and noticed within one year that the plastic mesh which is by the sprout had disintegrated so that plastic pieces were floating in the boiled water. It’s highly likely our family drank microplastics and pieces of the plastic mesh without realizing it. This is dangerous for consumers. I reported this to Chefman customer service on May 5, 2026 and did not hear back from their customer service until June 23, a wait time of over 7 weeks for something that is defective design for their products, and dangerous for customers. This electric tea kettle should be recalled, and Chefman should change out the plastic mesh to metal/stainless steel.

Product Safety Complaint Chefman Power Infusion Plus 1.8L Electric Kettle RJ11-18-TI-KW
I am submitting this report to document a serious product safety concern involving the above-referenced electric kettle.
Summary of Incidents Unit 1 After approximately two weeks of normal use, the kettle began emitting a noticeable electrical burning odor. The unit was returned and replaced through an exchange. Unit 2 Replacement Within approximately one week of use, the kettle partially melted and again emitted a strong electrical smoke odor, indicating overheating or potential internal electrical failure. Safety Risk These conditions presented a significant fire hazard. The situation required active monitoring to prevent escalation. A fire may have occurred had the unit been left unattended. Electrical System Verification: To rule out external causes, the residence electrical system was inspected by maintenance personnel. All outlets, including the GFCI outlet used, and the breaker panel were tested and found to be functioning properly. The GFCI outlet did not trip during either incident. Conclusion: Based on two separate failures under normal operating conditions and verification of a properly functioning electrical system, this appears to be a potential product defect and safety risk rather than an isolated environmental issue. Request: I recommend investigation into this model for potential overheating or electrical failure risks. I am requesting appropriate follow-up, including documentation of this complaint and any corrective actions.
UPDATED ON 4/10/2026: [As I had stated in my original report, we had our outlets and breaker box check by professional maintenance. All electrical outlets are working properly. The manufacturer of the product did not address the defect in the rapid heating coil. The pictures clearly shows that melting was from that plastic surrounding the heating coil. My recommendation for the manufacture is to not use plastic, but a material that does not melt. ]

The product, in the report: Chefman Electric Tea Kettle infused attached, glass with black handle that sit on a heating plate. I do not have the dimensions
Chefman Electric Tea Kettle was purchased in about 10 months ago. We started using the product about March 2025. Early October 2025 me & family started noticing some floating inside the water of the electric Chefman tea kettle. I pour the water out, cleaned and rinse the tea kettle out and added fresh water inside the tea kettle. I turned the electric kettle on after the tea kettle turned off after heating water. I attempted to pour the hot water in a mug then I noticed something floating in the water again then I realized it was metal shaving coming off the metal plate inside the Chefman Electric Tea Kettle. We been using thie Chefman Electric Tea Kettle for months and at the time we didn’t realize we have been drinking metal shaving along with our tea, no telling how long this been going on. Most people who owns a similar product isn’t aware of the problem because after the water is heated most people add their tea bag to the mug a pour the heated water in the mug. I’ve sent out multiple emails (3 or 4) to the company Chefman and I didn’t get any reply from live person regarding my complaint. This product is a health hazard to the consumers. I reported my complaint to the retail store that I purchased from.

The product, in the report: Chefman. Black base. Electric kettle
I bought a chefman 1 L hot water kettle from Walmart a few months ago. Ive only recently noticed that water left in it is warm to touch even hours after using it. If I unplug it, the water cools. Im concerned because there seems to be a positive source of energy being used, even if the kettle is not activated. Unfortunately I dont have the box. But it is a model RJ1110GMRLWM electric kettle Made in China access code 301351G. Date code 2519.

The product, in the report: Chefman Custom-Temp 1.8L Electric Kettle. Product Features: 1.8-Liter Volume , Rapid-Boil Technology, Digital Temperature Control, Keep Hot Function, Tricolor LED Indicators, Lift-Out Lid , Automatic Shutoff and Boil-Dry Protection, 360-Degree Swivel Base , Drip-Free Spout
I recently discovered that the spout filter inside the kettle “Chefman Custom-Temp 1.8L Electric Kettle”, which is designed to prevent limescale or debris, has completely disintegrated. I noticed small plastic fragments floating in the boiled water, and when I touched the filter with my fingers, it crumbled and broke into ashes easily, indicating that it is made of plastic or synthetic fiber rather than metal. I can’t confirm the amount of the disintegrated mesh my family have ingested.

The product, in the report: Chefman Electric Kettle, Model #RJ11-17-TI; metal and clear plastic in color and composition, black plastic base; the unit is about 12-14” tall. It appears to be an induction heating kettle.
Part of the lid of the electric kettle became detached from the rest of the lid, allowing vapor from the boiling water to escape directly above the kettle. The vapor column is not visible and is extremely hot. It’s not clear that the portion of the lid that broke off can be replaced because there are a number of small plastic pieces that apparently connected the pieces together are broken.

The product, in the report: Chefman Electric Hot Water Pot Urn w/ Auto & Manual Dispense Buttons, Safety Lock, Instant Heating for Coffee & Tea, Auto-Shutoff/Boil Dry Protection, Insulated Stainless Steel, 5.3L/5.6 Qt/30+ Cups It is mostly stainless steel with a black plastic top. It has a dispense button on top, one right behind the spout, and a manual pump on top. Bought on Amazon.
I was using a brand-new Chefman Electric Hot Water Pot Urn that has an auto-dispense feature. The manual pump got stuck, and that somehow triggered the automatic pump. Boiling hot water started pouring out of the urn and quickly overflowed the cup, and started splashing everywhere, including on the floor and on my skin. None of the buttons did anything, and the manual pump remained stuck. I pulled out the plug and the urn stopped spilling water. I tried it again the next day and was able to reproduce the issue.
I keep trying to upload photos/videos but it doesn’t seem to be working. Here’s them in an online album: [REDACTED]

We have had this Kettle for a few months and the unit is in good working condition.

The product, in the report: Electric tea kettle, Chefman RJ11-17-TI with glass vessel and black base station
After using the product per instructions for a few weeks, the automatic shut off switch gradually became less reliable.
At this point, the unit fails to turn off the heat after the water comes to a boil. The switch movement feels “gummy” and a slight plastic odor is noticed after carefully allowing the device to continue to fail.
It was likely a design error for the operator activation switch and the boiling water stop function to be within the same mechanical movement.

The product, in the report: Chefman Electric Kettle with Tea Infuser
Chefman Electric Kettle with Tea Infuser. Did not shut off. Made 0.9L of boiling water, filled tea infuser, dropped into pot at 210 degrees. Pot made the tea, stopped boiling, poured myself a mug of tea and left pot on to keep warm. About 20 minutes later tea pot was boiling rapidly, splattering, and the bottom of my kitchen cabinets and wall was dripping with water from the steam. It did not shut off until I unplugged it. Very dangerous, plastic handles were so hot I had to use a oven mitt. Was bought at Target as Xmas gift for me.
