The product, in the report: Cordless Electric Kettle
This is with regards to Chef’s Choice International electric kettle #680 and S/N 42207
I was picking up the kettle with hot water in it and the handle broke off at the base scalding me. The handle was made of thin ABS plastic and had cracked/fatigued at the screw mounting point and let go completely without warning. I have photos and the parts preserved.
I immediately wrote to both Chef’s Choice International and their parent company, The Legacy Companies to let them know of the safety issue and have not received a response from either one, which made me worry that others might be scalded or burned. Luckily, there was not much water in the pot when it broke off without warning.
Sadly, if Chef’s Choice had used a more robust/appropriate plastic for the handle -- something like glass-reinforced PA 6/6 or Zytel (pennies more per unit), there wouldn’t be a problem.
