The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Capresso H2O Plus Electric Glass Water Kettle (http://www.capresso.com/water-kettles/h2o-plus.html)

We own the Capresso H2O Plus Electric Water Kettle (http://www.capresso.com/water-kettles/h2o-plus.html) and have owned it for approximately one year.

This morning I boiled a full kettle to make coffee. When the water had come to a boil, I lifted the kettle and tipped it to pour. As it began to pour, the top of the handle separated from the kettle and it tipped over and rapidly dumped almost the entire kettle of boiling water.

I was scalded a bit on the hand and foot by small splashes, but was fortunate not to be severely burned and extremely fortunate that one of my kids or my dog was not next to me.

    This is product extremely dangerous.

I reported the issue to Capresso and they were dismissive, concerned only with whether I could demonstrate if the kettle was under warranty.

The product, in the report: Capresso H2o Plus glass electric water kettle

I was using the Capresso brand electric kettle, model h20 plus. The glass pot of the kettle fell away from the handle as I was pouring boiling hot water. The pot shattered on the counter spilling boiling hot water all over my right leg. Because of this I now have a very big second-degree burn on my leg and got glass in my foot. My sister in law who had the same kettle said that hers broke in the exact same way. I see that this product was recalled back in 2005 for this very defect but it seems the issue has not been fixed

Glass hot water heater shattered with explosive like force while being pushed across counter top. Heater was cool & empty. Glass showered out from point of breakage in a 6’ radius. While cleaning up the mess noted that many of the glass shards were very brittle & almost powdery. Many of the fragments appeared much thinner than the other fragments.

The product, in the report: Capresso Model 259 Glass, Cordless Safety Water Kettle

I have a Capresso Model 250 water kettle. It has turned on by itself and boiled off any remaining water in the kettle. Luckily we caught it in time and were able to unplug it. This happened with a previous identical item. We purchased a second thinking the first was some sort of fluke, but it happened again yesterday (3/18/13).

The product, in the report: Capresso 260.03 PerfectTea Cordless 48 oz Electric Glass Kettle

While I was pouring out boiling water into my cup the handle of the Capresso Electric Glass Kettle broke and the whole pot lunged towards my cup. Miraculously, the handle remained attached by the teensiest thread so I was not burned. There was no prior warning that the handle was about to fail. We’ve had the machine under 2 years and have never dropped it or otherwise damaged it. This failure mode seems extremely dangerous to me because had the handle come completely unattached boiling water would have spilled everywhere.
